Hi Terry,

I hope DD is feeling better. Is it close to her TOM? I know that I can be exhausted atTOM. I hope that is all it is.

A nakie tag would be hilarious, and it is getting harder to make it to journals daily.

Take care,\Beth

Beth,
A nakie tag would go great with your No Underwear tag! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/naughty.gif DD hasn't started her TOM yet, but I am getting ready to start on Wednesday. Maybe her cycle is starting to sync with mine, even though she hasn't started? The emotional part has definitely started! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/devila.gif

Come on, Michelle! We need more stories because I found some really good nakie smilies!! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/eek.gif

Hey Terry - Sorry your kids are feeling bad. Nothing worse than your babies being sick. My oldest DD came home from school not feeling well, of course, their school nurse seems to send them home at the bat of an eye  Hope they recover soon

Terry, I've finally gotten caught up on your journal! Sorry I've been gone so long. I see I'm not the only one having trouble keeping up. I could truly turn my DISing into a full-time job. :p

I hope your kidlets are both feeling all better. This time of year is so tough! Strep throat seems to be going around our school - one of my DD's friends was out over a week with it! I'm hoping and praying it skips our house, because I really don't feel like playing "pass the disease" in our family.

Rest whenever and wherever you can, dear Terry. Turn over some of those household chores to your DH and kids! I think I need to resurrect our chore chart for my 2 teenagers. ::yes::

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday! :flower:

PS: Melanie,
Over in Michelle's Journal, she has been telling us about encounters with naked people in the locker room at Bally's. Other people have been sharing their 'nakie' stories as well. With so much nakie-ness going around, I thought someone here needs a tag about it! :rotfl2:

Poor Michelle's Journal. She has been overtaken by the Nakie stories and people looking for a party! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/party.gif I don't know why people keep heading over there. :rolleyes1

:teeth:

Everyone is healthy here. YEAH! Of course, we are flooded with school work to make up. :teacher: So the evening was spent helping both children prepare for tests tomorrow. DS has a book report and a puppet to make tomorrow night. Well, at least this school doesn't assign homework over the weekends!

The big news here is I have a new nephew! He's a cutie too. :) A tiny boy - just 6# 15 oz. His cry is so sweet (and only a parent could say something like that!). I took some digital pics from my brother to share with his friends and coworkers. Next week I will be going over to do a series of black and white pics with my real camera. I did this with their first child as well, and they liked it enough to want it again. This time I am going to add some sibling feet pics. I think it will be cute to have a 3yr olds feet with a newborns.

With all of this excitment, I haven't started officially WWing yet. I am getting back into the groove though, so the official days should go very smoothly. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Although it wasn't planned, maybe easing back into the WW will be a good thing. You start getting used to counting, measuring, etc. But if you are not OP 100%, no guilt! ;) Make sure you get your kitchen all stocked up with your WW friendly foods before next Monday. That way you can get moving with WW no matter what! :cheer2:

Well, since you asked.... heehee

His name is Ethan David. I am still tripping over that since we have a nephew named Nathan. I think my brother unconsciously picks names similiar to other children. I have a Jake - he has a Jack. Other brother has a Nathan, now he has an Ethan. Definitely makes for some twisted tongues!

Here is he is!

Sorry - I didn't see anyone this time, Jen. When we lived there though, I was tripping over them all of the time! I guess that's what happens when you are not a country music fan, but your dh is. He would always get upset at who I would see. :confused3

We are back. Had a GREAT trip. Saturday was spent watching basketball games - dd got to see a lot of her friends. I got to see a lot of my team. It was really fun. There are just great kids and I miss them all.

We had some good food (got to visit my favorite restaurant) and now I am back in action!

I weiged/measured myself this morning (well - at 11:30 am when I could finally drag myself from bed) and started WWing. I am hopefully for a good week! The first one always is, isn't it? ;)

I am off to get the kids from school before this headache gets worse. Happy Monday all!! :smooth:

Happy Tuesday everyone!
Yesterday finished up well. I was OP - hitting 24 points for the day, but I missed my water by 1. 7 glasses was good though, since it was the first day truly back on WW.
Today I have been struggling with the munchies. I am not hungry - I just want something in my mouth! What's up with that? It seems I have developed an oral fixation while I wasn't WWing? I have chewed an awful lot of sugarfree gum today though.
Dinner is planned so today should be another good day!

Off to check some journals! I will try to get to as many as possible.

Finished with journals, so I decided to add a ticker to my signature. I think I am going to go with a short term goal, since I like seeing things move!

Welcome Back Terry! :wave2: Sounds like you had a great weekend! :sunny: I think for the munchies on WW the best things for me are low point things I can have LOTS of so I can trick myself into thinking I had more than I did. :) Fiber is also a big help. For snacks with low points I like the Creamy Ranch soy crisps (25 and they are big!) for 2 points, grapes 1 point, apple - 1 point, WW Smart Ones Ice Cream - 1-2 points depending on the type, another good one when you are really hungry is one piece of light WW bread with 1 Tbsp peanut butter for 3 points. ::yes::

Thanks for the invite, Sunny! I haven't ever checked out that thread. I will see you there. :)

Now here's a question for everyone.... I was watching some morning tv and one of the talk shows had the doctor who does Real Age. (www.realage.com) Has anyone heard of this before? His theory is that there is a chronological age and a 'real age' based on life factors. I agree with this theory - that stress can remove years from your life, that exercise can add years, etc. ANYWAY, the doctor made 15 recommendations for everyone.
One was drink a glass of wine a day. I understand there are findings that say red wine helps reduce heart attacks, but he didn't specific red wine. I had also heard, if you aren't currently drinking, certainly do not start.
Second was to drink as much caffeinated coffee as you can (without suffering any problems such as heart palpitations). AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Now I am not a coffee drinker, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what the health benefits of coffee would be?!?! I have never heard of such a thing.

Today started with a killer headache - joy - and then the snow started. The advil has kicked in and I feel fine now. I have the entire day's food plotted out. DS and I will be going to the grocery store while DD is at tutoring so I am going to pick up some of those safe snacking suggestions - just in case. Today is much better with the munchies, so I am not sure what was going on yesterday.

Happy Wednesday!!!

sharoncity
02-02-2005, 02:22 PM
Well, beiing the coffee drinker that I am, I feel confident answering your question from thge diet front. Plain and simple, supposedly the caffeine speeds up your metabolism. It was a big ingredient in the now banned ephedra diet pills. However, Since I have been a big coffee drinker my whole life, it no longer seems to have any effect on me. I drink probably 64 oz of coffee a day :bitelip: . I drink it black, mostly with caffeine, but sometimes decaf. I can assure you, my metabolism does NOT speed up!!! :confused3 Here's a link to other benefits of caffeine.

http://www.foodproductiondaily.com/news/news-NG.asp?id=52258

I don't feel so bad that I drink a lot of coffee because I always say it is my one vice. I don't smoke and rarely have alcohol. But maybe I should try a glass of wine per day! :rolleyes1

Hope that headache beats a real quick path to the door!

Have a great Wednesday!

Hi terry,

On the flip side of coffee, it does stimulate the whole insulin thing that low carbers try to avoid. I say this as a coffee drinker who would rather slow down her weight loss with a cup or two a day than give up my coffee.

I did the Tae Bo DVD today. There is a ton of choreography, and he does go into "double time". I was focused on form, not speed. I could totally see where a newbie who was trying to keep up could injure themselves. It was a great ab workout, and got my heart rate up despite not going at speed. I'll probably keep doing it on the days I don't want to go to the Y, but it wouldn't be my main focus. That is my .02 on Tae Bo. Hope it helps.

Have a good day,
Beth

Thanks for the scoop on coffee. Does that mean I should start drinking soda with caffeine? I chose to eliminate it from my way of eating, so all of the soda we bring into the house is caffeine-free, including the Dt. Coke. Maybe I should go back to the 'hard' stuff. ;) I have to drink my water (3 - 24 oz bottles) before I can have a soda, because I LOVE my Dt. Coke and Dt. Dr. Pepper!

Thanks for the review, Beth. If the choreography is too difficult, I should probably wait until I am a lot more stable on my feet. I struggle with standing on one foot for any period of time. Just haven't gotten that part back yet.

Sheesh - after reading that article, maybe I should take up the java habit! Too bad I can't get past the taste. :crazy2:

Oh my stomach. My poor stomach. I am not sure what's wrong but I guess I am getting sick? Since yesterday around 5 pm, my stomach has been KILLING me. Terrible aches and cramps. Eating or drinking anything just makes it worse. I managed to get down about 5 crackers last night for dinner. We had plans for tacos last night, but I told the kids after basketball practice, it was a leftovers night. No way was I going to put anything like tacos in my body!

I am laying low today. I am way behind on my water but too much starts the aches again. We have a very busy weekend planned so I hope this goes away soon! If this continues very long, it is going to put me behind on the Exercise challenge. :(

Lunch was at home - fresh from the deli turkey with a couple of pickle slices on a slice of wheat bread with some carrots and pretzels. I don't see anything that could be 'bad' in there. Tomorrow is going to be a crazy day, but I need to check out Dotti' website to see if she has point values for Mimi's Cafe as it appears to be the place we are going to be meeting friends for dinner. That place is YUMMY but oh, so tempting! Of course, if my stomach is still in a funk, I will be fine, because I won't be hungry. :crazy2:

Terry,

Hope you are feeling better!! Stomach problems just aren't fun....ever!!

Your babie's are so cute...all of them!! Is the new puppy a little scotty? We have often thought about getting Barkley a little scotty buddy....somehow I don't think he would like it all too well though. He REALLY likes being the only one and is spoiled beyond belief......not sure how alll that happend...I think it is all his daddy's fault!! :rolleyes1 Barkley is quite happy with all this walking though....he always gets to come along for the cool down walk.

Hope you ahve a great day and are feeling up to snuff real soon!!

Erin, you have a westie too? How fun!! It is certainly a special breed. We love our Scamp. We have even thought of getting another Westie. BO is a sh*t-zu/pug mix. He only visits us - doesn't live here. Scamp does really well with BO so I know he would be okay with a puppy. Just not sure that *I* want to deal with a puppy right now. ;) A full grown pup is much easier. ;)

We had a nice time at dinner. I checked out Dotti's web site - she had minimal information so I ordered the Spaghettini with Shrimp, cut the serving in half and ate that. I know Shrimp is low in points so I think I did okay. :) My dd mistakenly got fruit with her dinner, so I shared a piece of pineapple and some orange slices with our friends. A nice surprise treat!

My stomach is still feeling a tad off, but it is better than it was. I am slowly getting back to feeling 'normal'. Yeah! We have another basketball game this afternoon and then it will be time for the Super Commercials show... er... I mean the Super Bowl. :p Lots of laundry to be done as well!

I will try to get visits to journals in between loads! Happy Sunday all!

Happy Monday all!

I do believe I need to 'find' my day for Weigh In. I checked my weight on Saturday and was done 2.5 pounds. (Woo Hoo!) Then today - my 'official' day, I was back to normal! Now, that's not right! Ughness! Last time, my best day of the week was Wednesday, so I am going to get a feel this week for my official weigh in day. It doesn't look like Mondays like me. :crazy2:

Today I am OP. I still have 5 more points to eat this evening. I just may have some strawberries and a glass of skim milk. That will get me close enough. No exercise today - that was last night. I will probably end up keeping Monday as my day of rest forever! hahahahaha

Sunday was the Super Bowl - while the game was close, the commercials were a disappointment. Oh well - it gave us more time to visit with my parents. I made a double batch of the WW Taco Soup recipe. YUM! I sent most of the leftovers home with my parents since it was so good! I was tempted to eat too much. I left a large serving for DH and the rest is gone. Next time I will be better prepared and put the leftovers into single serving size and into the freezer. ;)

Sounds like you had a great day!! Doncha just hate that scale thing!!! I hate it when that happens. I made Greg hide it until I weigh in on Mondays!!

Methinks I need to the taco soup recipe too!! Sounds delish!! And it looks like winter is headed back to Chicago. :cold:

Sure, Tracy! Here you go....

1 pound ground beef / Boco Burger crumbles
1 large onion, chopped
1 can pinto beans - undrained
1 can black beans - undrained
1 can red beans – undrained
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
1 can diced tomatoes – Mexican style
1 can Rotel tomatoes – mild
1 pkg taco seasoning mix – Old El Paso Mild
1 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix (dry)
1 cup water (more as needed)

Brown ground beef and onions in a large pan, drain off fat.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour or so

I substituted the BocaBurger crumbles for the ground beef, and no one knew! It was REALLY tasty, and very filling! You can sprinkle cheese on the top before serving. As an added bonus, it was SUPER easy to make!

Hey Terry - I know what you mean about finding that right day for WI. I think that's why I like Tuesdays, because if I go off the program a little on the weekends, I still have Mondays to recoup before weighing in. I think Wednesdays will work for you too.

Great job staying OP! Mondays your either really good or REALLY bad :earseek:

I know what you mean about the Super Bowl commercials. We always look forward to them, but they were definitely a letdown this year. Guess they were trying to keep things toned down :confused3 Was a great game though :)

How many points is that WW Taco soup?? I need to write that down and try making it. It sounds yummy.... :p

I finally found your journal!!! I've been going down the list and trying to write in everyone's journal and finally found yours!!!! It's soooo inspiring!!! Some comments...you have such an adorable family..your son is a cutie! That taco soup sounds YUMMY, love the little puppie and westie! :) Ebony and Ivory....:) and most of all WAHOO on making it to the marathon...that's huge in itself and all that working out helped you more than any misguided marathon reps could ever hurt you.
Now for the weigh day...I've tried Mondays and Saturdays and finally settled on Thursdays....if I weigh in on Monday I just seem to have bad weekends and the bad weigh in messes with my mind...Thursdays are far enough from the weekend to keep me disciplined and there's really not much in my life happening on Thursdays...if I do go out to eat with the family at a restaurant it's usually on Fridays or Sundays so Thursdays as far from those as I could get! :) Hope this helps!!! You're doing GREAT!!!!

You are a huge inspiration to me!

Looks like you are doing very well. Another vote on the WI day - I do Wed. Far enough from the weekend to "undo" the damage, but a little midweek pick me up (if it is a good WI ;) ) to keep me going for the remainder of the week. Of course, it hasn't mattered at all lately, because I haven't lost a thing!!!! :sad2:

Happy Fat Tuesday!!

For those asking about the Taco Soup, the web sites I have found the recipe on claim it is 2 points a serving (a cup). Not too shabby, eh? I know using the Boca Burger crumbles will help lower those points as well. I just don't believe it lowers the point value to 1, as I have read.

I am doing great with my points today. Oh yeah. I feel the groove coming back. :cool1: I still have 13 points left! Also, in my endeavor to find the best weigh in day, I weighed myself this morning. Down .5 pound, so I think Wednesday will end up being my good day again.

I signed up for the February exercise challenge but am doing awful! :earseek: I thought the challenge would get me moving again, but I seemed to be completed focused on watching my food. Is that a good thing? I think I need something new to do, so I will be looking for some different tapes soon.

Happy Thursday All!
Boy, what a bad routine I have gotten myself into. I get up at 6:30 am, get the kids ready for school, take them to school, come home, have some breakfast, get about 30-45 minutes worth of stuff done, then crash! This week I have napped until 11 am each day. What's up with that? :confused3 I am going to continue to listen to my body, but I really don't like being so tired. I had a little tingling in my legs the other night, so maybe my MS is flairing up and causing the fatigue. :confused3

Working at staying OP this week. I have 14 points left for dinner and snacks today. We will be grabbing dinner out tonight. DS has basketball practice and then an hour later the Science Night Out at school. I think we will just go to Wendy's and I will get a plain baked potato and small chili (9 points total).

Sometimes we just need to nap! I've learned to not fight that feeling and to take advantage of it. You will only feel worse if you fight how tired you are. Plus resting is good for the body - it allows it to heal whatever may be plaguing it. I hope you are feeling better today - your menu looks good and you sound very focused!

Wanted to tell you I made that Taco Soup on Sunday and LOVE it. I didn't have too much water in it, so it's more like a stew, but VERY filling. I also used some Boco patties that I had (heated them in the microwave and then put them in with onions) DH liked it too, but kids apparently don't like beans  I am planning to make that for our Happy Hour get together next week and won't tell anyone it's a WW receipe ;) Thanks again for sharing that.

Hello WISHERS!
Here I sit, trying to type on dh's work laptop. Ick - the keyboard is smaller than my fingers are used to so I keep having to backspace to correct my errors.
Nothing much to report from my progress because there hasn't been any. Just the same old, same old. Lots and lots of sleeping. I tried not napping - to see if I was tired just because I was used to sleeping so much - but that only lead to some terrible leg pains. Once I started napping again, the pains are gone. Makes a ton of sense, eh?
I haven't been exercising, I haven't been counting points. I have basically been sleeping 14-16 hours a day, and taking care of the kids/house. I tried convincing my doctor that I was in need of some sun therapy and that she would *really* be helping me out if she wrote a prescription for a trip to FL, but that didn't work. ;) I am supposed to just wait it out, resting as much as needed. Not very WISHful, IMO.
I will try to get caught up on journals as I can!

HAPPY MARCH!!!
