Happy to meet you! It'll be nice to have a firsthand report of what February is like after you take your '05 cruise and any other good tips you want to share. My DD and DS will be 8 1/2 on that cruise so our kids will be in the clubs together. Thanks for posting. :boat:

I can tell you about February, we went in February this year (can you tell we loved it, we have 2 more planned).
The weather was beautiful, great break from the snow of upstate NY. We just went to the beach in St. Marteen, took the water taxi from the ship, and went shopping in St. Thomas. My husband went scuba diving in both ports and really enjoyed it.
I would be happy to answer any specific questions.

Are there laundry facilities onboard

Pea-n-Me
10-31-2004, 05:56 AM
Yes there are, Mykel. :teeth: In fact DH likes to do the laundry and iron while we're onboard (we're one of the rare families that actually like being near the laundry, lol)! :love2: Are you and Sandy Mouse planning on doing laudry on the ship?

P.S. Mykel - I strongly recommend against anyone moving our stuff out of the machines *before* they're done, DH's been known to get a little *mad* when that happens! :scared1:

BTW, where are you staying? :scratchin

mykel mouse
11-02-2004, 03:11 AM
Sandy mouse and Mykel mouse do not plan on doing laundry unless needed!!!!!

We are staying far away from DH during laundry time. I heard he takes people lunch money!!!

Hi Jen and Joe - hey, our countdowns match!! :Pinkbounc

Wondering if you mind a few questions? Now that our WDW trip is over I'm looking forward to planning our cruise...

How was your cruise? Was the ship full? Can you tell us anything about the weather while you were in the Carribean? DH and I were wondering a bit about the formal night which we've never done before - did Joe wear a tux? What excursions did you do?

Thanks so much and nice to meet you! :sunny:

Linda, thanks for the welcome. Now that things have settled down a little bit, I can tell you about our trip some.

First off, we had the best time because before the cruise, we met a great group of people on the DIS board! Mark and his wife Laura are so much fun to be with. I miss them very much. :sad2:

Second, we had GREAT weather! I would have to guess that the average temp was 80-85°. It was a little cloudly Friday morning when we got to Castaway Cay but by noon the sky cleared and I burned quite nicely. LOL

I enjoyed Garnd Cayman the most because we swam with the stingrays. I was really nervous about it but those fears quickly went away when I got in the water with them. They are so gentle and soft!

We didn't have great servers but I managed to survive. Like I've said to others, even bad service is better than no service, which is exactly what I have at home! LOL

OK, I have to run now but if you have any questions, ask away!

I just cancelled our cruise on the 18th because we rebooked on RCCL. We're getting a room with a balcony cheaper than we can get a room with a window on DCL. DisneyPilots (Mark) and his family have also cancelled their cruise on the 18th.

Sassikay
02-28-2005, 07:52 AM
Sorry to hear you cancelled the Disney. We took a RCCL last April to the Southern Carribean. The trip was nice, but we prefer Disney. And our youngest was 13 at the time, but even all the adults enjoyed Disney more. We go again on the Magic on 2/18/06. We can't wait!

:wave2: Hi everyone. My family (me, hubby, DD's :earsgirl: 10, :earsgirl: 7) will be joining you all next year. In 2001 we did the 3-day cruise and the Western in 2003 and looking forward to the extra days on this ship - hopefully for some relaxation and doing some of the activities we didn't do last time.

Christinou: Hope you had a nice cruise last week -- was it the Eastern or Western? Looks like our older DD's will be in the club together. How did they like it this past week? On our 2003 cruise my 10 year old DD didn't spend much time there and I'm hoping and :worship: she'll go a bit more this time around. My youngest loved it both times.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hey Linda - thanks. My youngest DD will be 2 months shy of 8 y/o so I think she'll be in the 5-7 group. Not sure if the groups were 5-7 and 8-10 y/o.

Any ideas for the excursions? I'll have to start looking into that stuff. Busy planning a birthday bash in Disney during April! I did snag some formal wear after New Years - couldn't pass it up. My husband didn't wear the tux - just a suit. Not sure what he'll do for this one.

Hi all!

I replied on the other thread but wanted to check in here too. My DS11 and I are looking forward to yet another great Disney cruise on Feb 18. We had a blast on our cruise last January with all the fellow DISers....just wouldn't have been the same without them. :teeth:

I hope we can all get together for a DISmeet at least once during the cruise. In January, the ladies did Palo's brunch while the men played poker on the first sea day. I was hesitant at first and wasn't going to go, but am so glad I did. Everyone was so nice and it was fun to see familiar faces around the ship. We even did a few excursions together and had a great time. Of course there's always one you don't enjoy meeting, but never let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. We had a blast and would do it over again in a heartbeat! ::yes::

Can't wait til February! :Pinkbounc

My son has been watching the video, he had a birthday last weekend and asked me to get his goggles from Grammas and pack them so we dont forget, because he needs them to go underwater (he is 4).. LOL

my parents and I have been shopping for cruise clothes already, since we are in Buffalo there are no summer clothes to buy here in Feb. so we are doing it now, My sons bag is packed for the most part, so we dont use the new clothes during this summer LOL.

So yeah we are a bit excited, its funny to be looking so forward to winter when its 90 outside.

We are a family of six , DW & myself and our 2 DS ( 4 & 10 ) & 2 DD ( 7 & 11 ) we are also bringing my Darling Mother-in-Law ( How do you abbreviate that??) so we will be a toal party of seven. Not many cabins hold this so gues what, we have Stateroom # 8030, the WDW suite. Cannot wait for the trip. It will be our 7th DCL and 9th in all. Our kids have the entire week off every year so we try to travel. Hope to see some of you..

Hey what dinner seating does everyone have
We requested early due to the fact the kids did not do so well with the late seating on our feb wonder cruise.

also anyone have an idea what night they might go to palo would be nice to see some people we almost know there

njDISNEYnut

Burma:
We have the main seating. Startign dinner at 8:30 and finishing 10-10:30 is not favorable to us. I know that we have to cut our day shorter to start getting all of us ready, but the one DCL DW & I took alone, we had the 2nd seating and found ourselves doing very little after dinner and then going to bed. We could never seem to get ready for the early show shown before dinner.
Our family, having 4 out of 7 kids ranging 4-11, think that we will get the dining rotation of APT. We have had this rotation for almost every one of our cruises. Irregardless, I think my DW & D M-I-L will do the Sunday Brunch and then we will do dinner at PALO on the last night. This will be the third time in the same restaurant and the " Best of series" can be skipped. So it is not definate, but right now this is the plan.
I have to admit that I will be spoiled by one of the Suite perks, that I can make all shore excursions, Palo & Spa resys 105 days in advance. So when the time comes, I will sent out a note as to what we did.

LOL, the second seating didn't work out too well for us last time either. DS was sleeping in his pizza on CC day - a little tuckered out! :hyper2:

DH and I will probably do the Palo brunch and the dinner - not sure when yet (us commoners have to wait till we board so we'll see what's available). :rotfl: We've done both before and like each for different reasons: I love seeing the ocean during the daytime and the casual dress, and who can resist the chocolate souflee during the dinner?

What's everyone thinking about shore excursions? For those who've done the Eastern before, what did you do? :confused3

The other thing I was wondering is who's getting tuxes and who's not? :listen:

Anyone got their magnetic door signs done yet? :fish:

We did the Eastern last Feb. Checked out the Butterfly Farm with stops at the open marketplace at St. Maarten. Wasn't too sure about the european style beaches and went that way instead..... It was nice but wouldn't do it again! Checked out the beaches at St. Thomas. Very easy to get a cab to Magen Bay Beach and back. Rather scary taxi ride but beautiful beach.! Want to try out the St. John adventure this time.

I will be having my Tux pressed before we cruise hopefully it will stay wrinkle free just trying to decide between bow tie or regular tie ....

as for excursions we have decided to go it on our own since our kids are 3 and 4.5 at the time of the cruise disney does not offer anything we cant do on our own .

If anyone is interested in sharing a cab(van) on excursions let me know

Ok. After much discussion, DH and I decided that we will stick with our formula.
So our arrangements are:

Jetblue JFK to MCO 2/17
MCO Hyatt 2/17-2/18
Southern Elegance Limo Hyatt to Port 2/18
Same limo Port to MCO 2/25

We canceled our reservation at the Radisson and had our name removed from the shuttle for 2/18

FYI-You can reserve the shuttle as soon as you have your reservation. When we called they told us that we were the first ones on the list.

Hey Guys
njDISNEYnut back online, sorry for the gap, just did not have the time to get on the boards. Unfortunately we will be flying in and out on the DCL air package. Remember Feb is a rough time for me as an accoutant. We are going back on another DCL in July and will do a week in WDW prior to that trip.
In regard to a cruise meet, lets see if we can coordinate something on board. I have the WDW suite, so as long as the DW has no complaint, we can try to do something on a Sea day.

Hi Everyone!

This is our first Disney Cruise..me (DD), partner (DP), daughter 11yo (DD), and our daughter's Disney God Parents (DGD and DGM).

We are seasoned WDW travelers, but this is our first time on the cruise. And the closer we get, the more excited we become. The godparents have traveled on the Wonder in the past, and they truly loved it, so we are all really looking forward to going on the 7 day cruise.

We are flying down on Thursday evening after school, and will be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, so if there is any meeting up in the park by fellow DIS'ers, please let me know.

Our only concern is that our daughter is nervous about going because she doesn't have any friends traveling with us. How many out there have kids around 11yo traveling on the ship?

This is our 2nd time on the Magic! We had a such a great time last year that we convinced friends of ours to come with us for another trip. They have 2 children and we have 2 children. 1 of my daughters and their 2 children will be in the 5 -7 age group. But, my daughter will be in the 10 - 12 age group. She was little nervous last year about joining the Oceaneer Lab by herself. But, the people that work in the children's area are marvelous. They give the kids lots of things to do. There were times that my husband and I went to pick them up and they didn't want to go.....

So, in other words, she will have a great time! And, my daughter will be in her group!

Hi Everyone! :wave2: Time's getting closer, funny to see our counter's all say the same thing! :goodvibes

cadburysmom, hope your DS can find someone to hook up with. My DD and DS are both 8. It will be fun if all our kids can meet early in the cruise so they at least see some familiar faces in the clubs and around the ship. If any of the girls around my DD's age care to email a bit, she might enjoy that. PM me if interested.

Did everyone get their airfares booked? We booked ours last week, it was a bit  everyone must have been waiting, flights were disappearing and prices rising right before my very eyes! :earseek: But we're finally booked, good times at a decent price, thank you SWA!! (BTW, mykel mouse, you can buy me my first Bahama Mama for that one ;) ).

So we're making progress here. Am starting to pick up little things for the cruise. Just this morning bought an overnighter suitcase and also some bags to store our souvies in for the trip home. Pirate costumes ready, tried them out at MNSSHP two weeks ago. pirate: Still deciding on transportation and tuxes. Who's wearing tuxes, anyone?

Just finished online pre booking shore excursions, spa reservations, palo dining, and registered the kids for kids club. It took a little longer to do than I thought it would. I do have hi-speed cable but pages took long to update. Just to let everyone know this will be our 7th DCL. Decised to do shore excursions on ST. M & ST. T. on our own. Meaghans Bay for St. T. Possibly Dawn Beach or some other for St. M.
We reserved Swim with Stingrays and Bannana Boat ride on Castaway Cay.

Havent posted in a long time, but with the time quickly arriving I am getting excited, My 4yr ds is getting crazy excited, we are cruising with my fiance and 10 other family members... Its my son and I first cruise.

Question to the veterans how did your kids do going to the club on their own, my son can be shy at first, but opens up, hoping he will enjoy some club time in the evenings so I can get some grown up fun in somewhere in between the pool and wonderful shows and activities we want to take him too. How do you keep a four year busy on a 4 hour flight, I bought him a vsmile pocket for this christmas hope that works out for us.

I am so looking forward to this I havent been on vacation in about 10 years. It is going to be nice to not worry about anything except my son LOL for awhile.

rottie, do any of the people your traveling with have kids around the same age? It's nice for kids to have a friend to go into the clubs with. We have twins so our kids had a built in friend, although they are boy and girl so once in the clubs they separated, but I think just knowing someone in there gives the kids a level of comfort. There are others here that have kids who will also be in the Oceaneer's Club. I would try to at least meet them early on so your son will see a familiar face in the club, at the pool, around the ship and perhaps on CC. Also, make sure you register and get him in the club on the first afternoon so he becomes familar with it (you can even stay a while while he explores). If worse comes to worse and he hates it :rotfl: , at least you have some other people you know with you so maybe you can enjoy a Palo dinner or some quiet time with your fiance here and there. I hope he likes it!

Re: flight - depends on the child, I guess. My DD will keep herself busy with books and such and is usually good for a nap; DS is a bit of a pain, multiple questions of arrival times, LOL, (sure other passengers love that), won't nap, various other annoyances, but he does like looking in the Sky Mall catalog. :confused3 Maybe your DS will nap if the times are right, get a pillow and blanket when you get on the plane. Bring whatever he likes as well as some gum and water for ear pressure. Come to think of it when DD was younger she always had trouble with ear pressure, complaining loudly. At least now she knows how to get rid of it, swallowing seems to work the best. Good luck. I take it you got your flights ok?

Paid in full. Cats 1-2-3 get a 105 day pre booking window. Castaway members get a 90 day which I believe is Nov 20th for our cruise. Just an FYI. The new Vilas in the spa are book on board only as of right now. So I booked a regular spa treatment and will keep tabs on the vilas. From what I read they are suppose to be great. Pricey but great. Called DCL today, looks like the ship is almost - but not quite - full. I suppose that could change on Dec 5 when final payments are due. We are playing with the idea of upgrading our room. Right now, though, we're across the hall from our friends. :grouphug: :teeth: If we upgrade, it is a GTY category, and who knows where we may end up. the next youngest is my 15 yr old brother, we travelling with family my parents aunt and uncle and two adult cousins also. Lucky for me my son has tubes in his ears, that are pressure equalizing so the doc said he shouldnt get the discomfort, unlike me I will have plugged ears for days LOL..

I will definitely go with him the first night and let him get used to things, he goes to daycare so hopefully will adjust quickly. My son is a very very active child, so I am packing a bag full of little things that may keep him busy, napping is doubful but we will probably have an early am flight, not sure as we booked it through disney, so maybe he will snooze a bit.

Burma,

That'd be great. DD3.5 is looking forward to spending time in the kids club and meeting new friends. I think she'll be liking all the organized activities they have. She's really into making projects, pretend play and stories, so this should be up her alley.

The only thing my DD3.5 hates is sand, so I'm a little nervous about the beach stuff onshore, but otherwise, she'll be great. DD1.5 on the other hand, is pretty active, and LOVES sand, so I know I will be hitting the beaches for her if it's warm enuf. Plus, it will be one of the few times she'll really be able to get wet. Keeping her in that Mickey ear is going to be a challenge I fear. Hopefully, her listening and talking skills will keep improving in these next few months.

Joining the ranks of those paid in full!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Booked Palo and kids club, a couple of excursions. A little tricky since we're traveling with friends, too, and they can't book yet. Hopefully they'll be able to get the same times we booked too, or we'll have to change it all around.

Eric, you use the DCL website, go to My Disney Cruise and enter your confirmation # and birthdate. You'll be able to see your cruise reservation. As a first timer, you will not be able to book anything until 75 days out, which I believe is on 12/5 and you must be paid in full to book then, too (deadline, anyway - next cruise you'll be a Castaway Club member and can book a bit early then ;) ).

Once paid, you can do your bookings under Cruise Planning. The one thing you don't have to worry about is the kids club - there's always room for all the kids onboard. It's more to get preferred Palo or shore excursion times, and maybe spa times :confused3 that you should book ASAP. HTH.

I believe that Haley's Mom had complied a list of all of us and kids ages which will be helpful, I'm sure she'll post it soon.

If any of the girls who are around age 8 and going to be in the Oceaneer's Lab care to Pen Pal with my DD8 pre cruise, she would be interested.

Castaway Cay, DS16 and I are booked on the 2:30 pm Parasailing. He is also on booked on the Teen Wild Side excursion. DH and DD have no booking presently on CC.

I was going to book Magens Bay Beach, but I am doubting this now. It seems like alot of money for a taxi ride. What do you all think? Another option for St Thomas, DD and I will go to Coki Beach again. There is alot to do there and I think we'll enjoy it alot more. I am so open to suggestions!

Thanks for the list, Leanne. :goodvibes

Now how about an onboard DIS meet?
That sounds good. I know one of us is in the WED Suite and had mentioned a meet in there as a possibility. :cool1: I don't know if they want the kids running around in there, maybe an adults only wine and cheese hour or something might be better for them? :confused3 That's up to them, they can let us know (I'd be happy to bring some wine or pitch in, whatever).

Maybe we can make a list of ideas and see what everyone likes. Our last Dis meet was on Secret Aft Deck 7 in August - it was very hot - scorching, actually. And many of the kids bagged out because they wanted to play, go in the pool, etc... I remember thinking it would have been better to meet in the Promenade Lounge or by one of the pools. The time was good, however, 3pm on Embarkation Day - it gave us an hour to meet before the life boat drill as well as time to eat lunch, make reservations if need be and get a drink. :drinking1 Where have those of you who have cruised before done your Dis meets and how did they go?

So, here are some ideas - let us know what you think:

Deck 9 in between the Mickey and Goofy pools at one of the tables along the side? 3pm? That way kids can play and we'll be nearby, we can maybe relax a bit.

Promenade Lounge, 3pm? (Is it open then??)

Others??

I think I will edit the title of this thread to reflect the Roll Call list. Hopefully if others are reading this they'll join in. When I called DCL the other day they told me as of right now the ship is 99% full.

I meant to ask you guys who are from N. Kingstown RI, do you know eachother? If not, that's kind of funny, huh? Ourselves and the Mykel Mouse family are traveling together, and we're from the same town too (he tricked me at the beginning of this thread by joining the Dis without telling me, LOL). :rotfl:

Also, Dreamer, can you tell us what the weather was like when you cruised in Feb 05? Thanks!

burma
11-27-2005, 05:03 PM
This will be our second DCL cruise so we have not done a meet yet. I think inside would be a better choice due to the fact that Feb is so unpredictable that it could rain in FLA ( I hope not). 3pm on Embark. day sounds fine but we are open to anything ... I seem to have lost all the green mickeys I took from Home Depot but I will go get more.

Is anyone making a door magnet??

Anyone dressing up for Pirate night?

We do not know the other family from North Kingstown and I believe they are traveling with another family but I am sure we will meet on the ship.

We are booked for the Megans bay on St Thomas and the Butterfly Farm on St Marteen but we are considering doing the excursions by ourselves

We are also doing the Brunch at Palo on Sunday and the Dinner on Wed

Hi again all! Linda, I sent you a PM.

The weather last February was a little of everything. As a matter of fact, on Castaway Cay they canceled our parasailing excursion-too windy! But the weather was sunny enough to swim and sunbathe on St Thomas and St Maarten.

We're doing Palo brunch on Sunday and Palo dinner on Thursday.

Looks like DD8 and I will be going to Coki Beach on St Thomas. DH and DS16 will be playing golf.

St Maarten is still sort of up in the air. We did the Anguilla Dolphin Enounter last year so we're looking for something less expensive this year.

I like the idea of the 3:00pm DISmeet near the pools. Time and place works for me!

Dreamer04

Burma, I was thinking of Magens Bay, too. My brother said that it gets crowded. Last year we went to Coki Beach and we would have loved it but my DD had a sunburn so she really wasn't into it. This year I am going to be a sunblock maniac!

Yes, we are doing a door sign (still have last year's on my fridge) and also dressing up for Pirate Night. We tried out our Pirate outfits at MNSSHP and they worked out pretty well. pirate:

We are doing Palo brunch on Monday and dinner on Thursday, but those dates are subject to change if our travel party can't get the same ones when they book on the 5th. :badpc:

What I'd like to work on is a CD of cruise songs. There was a thread about it not too long ago, if anyone wants to see it I'll try to find it.

We were debating about tuxes but since DH needs a new suit anyway, I think we'll probably be skipping the tuxes this time around. Anyone else wearing tuxes for formal night? :confused3

Still undecided about St Martin and St Thomas but will probably be low key. :sunny:

What night is pirate night??

Dreamer04

On the 10/15 Eastern, Pirate Night was on Tuesday-St Maarten.

No tuxedos here. Just suits for DH and DS and dressy dresses for DD and me.

We are cruise newbies and will meet anywhere (we don't know any better :rotfl2: ), but the pool sounds good to us, too.

After Christmas I will work on our door signs.

We are also planning on pirate wear pirate:

Don't think DH will be wearing a tux, but he will try to be suave and as James Bond like as possible.

And I am very jealous and eagerly awaiting December 5 to book ressies

Also, thanks for the cruise song link. Very cool! I am getting more excited every day (if that's possible). :wave2:

Hey everyone! Getting ready for Christmas?
Yes, sure am!! Kind of nice with this upcoming cruise as it gave us something to focus on in buying gifts. We got 4 walkie-talkies as a family present (to keep in touch on the ship), and of course Disney Dollars and Disney gift cards to use for excursions and souveniers. :fish:

:boat: As soon as Christmas is over, our cruise will be right around the corner! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

BTW, I also like the idea of meeting by the pools on Deck 9. I believe the walls are glassed in there, aren't they? So if it's chilly out it won't be too bad. I know my kids will be in the pools even if it's freezing out! :cold:

WE are all set for the cruise and just to make you all a wee bit jealouse we are leaving in 30 days for a week at Disney we have a conference at the Contemporary so we decided to bring the kids and start the New Year off right. Oh and I must not forget Disney On Ice on the 29th here in Providence so we are Chock Full of the Magic for the next few months

Up until final payment was due I was on the fence about going on another Disney Cruise, but decided that we couldn't miss this cruise since my parents and other family members are also going. I told my daughters on Christmas Eve - it was exciting! Now, I really have to catch up on lots of things as I haven't done much research on the itinerary. Just quickly read the last 5-6 pages of this thread. I guess I'll look for you all on Feb. 18th!

Triggs and Eric -- did your daughters correspond at all? My oldest is going to be 11 and I'm sure she would love to get to know some other girls who will be in the club with her. Please PM me if they would be interested.

My youngest will be 8 in April - not really sure where I should put her as I think the 5-7 group might be too young for her. She'll do fine in either place I'm sure.

We're arrving at Disney on the 16th - staying at Boardwalk and trying to squeeze a day in at the parks on 17th. Have nothing booked for St. Thomas or St. Maartan - still deciding. Although, I did make all my online registrations and registered my daughters for the clubs. Not even sure my husband knows where we are sailing to this trip (only told him Christmas Eve). He makes a good bartender though!

We got some disney bucks for christmas, and sandalls and tshirts and stuff, lucky for me my brother lives in florida so they can get all that stuff pretty cheap at this time of year.

I am the only who has started packing the stuff they cant use yet, got some good deals online for sunblock, we need the 50plus stuff to cover the little one and a few tattoos on the grownups LOL...

I got some ear planes ear plugs for myself and my son, I have major ear trouble on flights and read some good stuff about these, my son has had pe tubes in his ears, but only 1 is left so I figure the plugs may help him too.

shopping for swimwear in Buffalo NY at this time of year is stuff so I have been looking online for some good summer deals on last years models LOL...

I consider myself sorta an Eastern pro now, since I have done it 3 times already. I am travelling with my cruising buddy, a friend from work... it's his first Eastern... we did the Western back last April, but I told him he'd enjoy the Eastern much better. We enjoyed our Western, but felt there was something missing... It was the sailing one week before the Magic went to the West Coast, so Hurcules was gone, Twice Charmed hadn't started, and they were testing all these new menus. Since there were only two Disney Shows all week, we were a little bummed, but are SO EXCITED for Twice Charmed... its AWESOME!

01-10-2006, 07:32 PM
Yes, Twice Charmed is a new show, its a twist on Cinderella.. whats neat about it, is all the amazing costumes, great set effects and most importantly, it's all new, orginial music and songs... You will love it, I promise..

Other new additions since the October drydock are a HUGE movie screen above the Goofy (Family) pool.. They play clips during the deck partys, and then show movies on it in the afternoon and evening... the best thing is you watch the deck side, and can even swim in the pool while you watch...

Also, there is a GREAT new fast food addition, Goofy's Galley... which sorta replaced Scoops (Don't worry, they still have the free ice cream, its just self serve.. and contrary to what they say on these boards.. the machines were always working, and were kept VERY clean)...anyway, Goofy's has these GREAT sandwiches, wraps, made to order salads, and tons of fresh cut fruits.. it was a huge hit on my cruise.

The other menus have been tweeked slightly... and there a all new lunch menus...

It's gonna be a blast.. and I bet that Diversions will have a lot of the Winter Olympics on, when we sail, since it will be the big sports event that week.

Wow, can hardly WAIT!!

Hi everyone - thanks for the info disneygatorfan! We're really getting excited too. Seems like some really nice changes since our last cruise.

My daughter (almost 8) cannot decide if she wants to be in club or lab so it will be nice to do the DIS meet on Deck 9. After she meets a few kids her age, I'm sure she will have a better idea...I hope!

Still haven't decided what we are doing at the ports - not a "wing it" person but looks like this trip will be. Does the ship have a specific spot it docks in at St. Maartan and St. Thomas? Seem to remember reading different things about docking.

See you all soon.

disneygatorfan
01-12-2006, 06:16 PM
The ship will dock on the Dutch side of St. Martin... there is a small shopping area at the port, and then there is a ferry that will take you into the main downtown area of the Dutch side, Philipsburg... there there is a lot more shopping, as well as a small beach not too far away from where the ferry drops off. It was like $5 round trip for the ferry...

At the port though, there are also taxi cabs waiting, and they will take you anywhere you want...I prefer the French side myself, and it's very easy to get to Orient beach on your own...

St. Thomas, it docks at the main port, at Charlotte Amelie... there is a large shopping area right next to the port (Havenssight Mall) as well as the Paradise Point tram is within walking distance... the main downtown of Charlotte Amelie is about a 45 min walk, or you can catch a cab to the downtown for about $4... its super easy to get a cab in St. Thomas, and they will take you anywhere... Meghan's bay is on the other side of the island and is a popular destination.. its GORGEOUS!! Well worth the $8 per person to get there.

Wow, a little under 6 weeks!!

Would be nice for us to meet other kids that first night that are around the same age, he is very sociable after about 15mins or so, but may give me a hard time at the club, at first, we have been reading the navigators to him and pumping up the experience, he will spend mostly evenings in the club, I am Super MOM Lol, like to keep him around, he will go to the club alot I am sure, but he will eat meals with us especially dinner, we are travelling with alot of family. he loves computers, video games, puzzles, all kinds of kids stuff, but alot of big kid stuff too. he is a fish and loves to swim..

Hi hermy 1291
I see you have two 14 year olds in your group. Boys or girls? I have a 15 year old son. I guess with the teenage years, it really doesn't matter!

Welcome Hermy 1291, I added you to the roll call, post #156. Let me know if you want me to add more information. Where in Michigan are you (we are in the northern detroit suburbs & will be very happy once superbowl XL prep is over :cool1: )?

Our DD :earsgirl: is 7, but we may move her up to the 8 yr. old group. She is in second grade and would do better there (I think?), but we will be happy where ever we are. She is very excited about the club/lab and is very social. She thinks it would be fun to "ditch us".

We are also traveling with DSIL. Any other singles going on the cruise. I know that she is interested in being a doting aunt, but we want her to have some fun, too :rotfl:

Still need to work on my door signs. I will post once I figure it out :rotfl2:

Hi Everyone and Welcome Herme! :disrocks:

Have those of you with "tweens" ages 10-14 seen this new area of the ship Ocean Quest? It looks like a blast for kids of those ages. DS8's a little disappointed but he's hoping to go down there a bit during the open house times. I believe it is on Deck 2, they converted an old conference room during the last dry dock. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=948596&referrerid=70088

Listening to our cruise music here and getting excited about the trip! :sunny: :boat: :fish:

DD8 is looking forward to meeting the girls from the Dis group. :earsgirl: :goodvibes

Hey All:
Just to let you all know I am still on board in the WDW Suite. Beind that tax season is started I am in full swing at my office and do not have much time to monitor the boards. I did offer to have a tour of the room to start off the cruise meet. Lets do it earlier in the cruise than later. You all know, less time for the kids to destroy the place.
As an update, we have me DH 40-DW( Well very close to me)-There is no abbreviation for darling Mother-In-Law and our four kids, DD-11, DS-9, DD-7, and DS-4. Our DD at seven is will only be 5 weeks from her 8th birthday and am positive she will want to go into the Lab.
So please , if one person wants to keep me update by my email as to when mee times are set, for both us and the kids, please send me a summary. I would really appreciate it.

Hi everyone,

My DH, DS 6 and DS 3 are getting very excited about the cruise on 2/18. I have been lurking around for a couple of days and wanted to make sure we were included in the roll call. I have already gotten so many great suggestions from you guys. We totally redid our excursions after reading what some of you wrote. We have done alot of travelling have decided to brave the islands on our own.

We are also travelling with my husbands family (mom, dad, sister, bother-in-law and 6 y.o. nephew). They are not the exploring kind so they have booked tours.

Looking forward to getting know some of you!
Really looking forward to taking my two little angels (lol) to the Oceaneers club!!!

Just got back from Disney World and we had a great time our conference was good but we seemed to cut out early most days to meet up with the kids or DD's are 3 and 4.

I Did book a private boat for Sat night to take us to watch the fireworks but the temperature fell very quickly and the wind was crazy. The first few days were awsome and my 4 yr old fell in love with the waterslide at the contemporary.

Just a quick note the Contemporary is in the process of redoing the rooms floors 9 and 10 are done and are fantastic. the whole room is new with LCD flat tv's and new modern sinks on metal bases and the color scheme is absolutly incredible. We usually stay at the Polynesian but I may reconsider once in a while now.

We cant believe the cruise is so close, comming home today to light snow and cold cold cold stinks ....

Looking forward to our meet at 3pm our girls will be in the kids club for the 3-5 yr olds

As I was reading thru the other posts - I saw a couple of people recommend pirate night. What is this?? Also is Tux necessary or just if you are going to the captain's reception which I assume is like a cocktail hour? Any info on this would greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Heidi

Alright DISer's it's time to get this thread going!!!

Pirate Night is a ton of fun... there is a big deck party, wth characters and fireworks. The entire night is themed, and everyone gets decked out in Pirate attire, and there is a Pirate themed menu at dinner.. then dinner is followed with the deck party, fireworks, and big pirate buffet!

People where tux's but it's not required, and you won't feel out of place with out it. A nice suit and tie is just fine for Formal and semi formal night, if you don't want to go all out with the tux!
