I think we'll be going on that cruise as our first ever. It's all dependant on getting my business off the ground. I can't think of a better incentive than this. I'm so excited.

Luckey,

We are skipping the 2004 Halloween cruise to spend the week in the parks but have booked for the 2005 Halloween cruise. I will fill you in later. I have to get ready for work tomorrow. I have to work 2 days then I am free to plan for our week at the WDW parks.

I will get back to you soon.

I think I will be on this cruise...I will be booking in January when I get my tax refund. My first DCL...It will be my mom, me and my DD (7 at sailing).

My sister (tchrmom) is the cruise expert, but does anyone else have any suggestions about booking..should I go through Disney or DU?

Okay, so I don't have anything new to post. I am just excited and ready to start planning our next Halloween cruise. :hyper:

I guess I could tell you who will be cruising in our group. That would be:
myself :cake: Celebrating my 10/24 birthday a little late.
DH :bday: Celebrating his 10/31 birthday.
DS-age 5 at sailing.

My Dsis and possibly one of her daughters.

We will probably not be part of the Radisson group for this cruise. We attended MNSSHP last month and have decided to try to do it again before the cruise.

I guess I had a little more to say than I thought.

Good Morning Trishy and Matty.

I am glad to see someone else posting. I had thought I had posted to the wrong thread. I had also found a "Halloween Magic 2005" thread that had also been started by Lucky but no one has posted to it since 10/29/04.

Maybe I am just impatient. :Pinkbounc I realize that the cruise is still almost a year away and not everyone is thinking about the cruise every day. This will be our third Halloween cruise and I can not wait.

I am looking forward to communicating with you over the next few months.

I just found that thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=663101) you were referring to. Boy, the Halloween cruise pro "Ginger" offered to help organize - you really can't beat that! Hopefully, someone with experience on a past Halloween cruise can be <strike>project manager</strike> I mean leader of the Dis TorTing on the Magic. ;) (No pressure, Rochelle) :p

LOL That's funny!!! We're thinking of going as the Incredibles!! I don't know about myself getting in that lycra suit, but we'll see. My DD is also going to be 7 1/2 at the time of sailing, her birthday is May 11th. As we get closer, and their writing skills improve, we should try to get them to e-mail each other so they'll have a pal on the ship!!!!

Hi everyone, :grouphug:

It has been a while since I have checked in. I am glad to see we have more posters joining in.

Trishy: Of the past Halloween cruises, the last one is the only one that we participated in the DIS T or Ting. I was not really in on the planning but I will see what I can do. I will probably need a lot of help. (Hint, Hint)

Going to a Christmas party tonight, I guess I had better get away from the computer and get something done. I will be glad when this house learns to clean itself. LOL

Hi everyone ! We changed internet service and the I lost my Dis name and password , so I started from scratch. It seems that we will all have girls around the same age traveling, that will be great! My DD just turned 8 on 12/20. I'm sure we will have alot of princesses in on the TorT. Cassie wants to be Ariel but I'm sure this will change 50 times before we cruise. I hope you all had a great holiday season . Lets all try and keep in touch.

This is like deja vu!! Not 5 minutes ago, I responded to a post you made for the July 9th west coast cruise (on another thread), and here you are posting for the other cruise we are booked on for Oct 29th!! Unless I'm completely out of my reckoning, over 2 cruises we'll probably get to know you and yours quite well before the year is out!!

Our daughters might be good candidates to hang out together. Ours (Cassie) will be 7 at the time of sailing.

We're still booked on this sailing, but we are thinking of cancelling and going on the Eastern during 7/06. We've decided to wait until after the 7/9/05 cruise and decide if we're going to be ready to cruise again so soon, probably will. So, it looks like we might be seeing A LOT of each other between 7/9/05 and 10/29/05. We're also going to San Diego a few days before our 7/9/05 cruise, so it seems like I'm stalking you!!! My Cassie just turned 8 in December and is very excited about being in the lab!'
She loves science!!!
She is going to be Ariel for her character spotlight in her figure skating competitions this year so she will probably use the costume for TorT while on board. It will be cute to get a picture of them all together.

No worries. As Soccermom oftens reminds me, I also sometimes forget that we go together :teleport:

These forums are the place to be if your DD is looking to make friends (aka arrange a "posse") before the cruise. That's the whole point for all of us.

We're all glad you're joining us. Is this your first Disney cruise? You can be sure there will be special Halloween activities on the ship during this cruise week. As for your "shy" daughter, this forum is a great place to identify families that have sons and daughters that are her age in advance of the cruise. What we've done with our kids is to set up an e-mail arrangement where they can correspond with potential friends before the cruise begins. However, you never know what will happen. On our last cruise, our DS had made contact with several kids his age (through this forum), but ended up being best buds with a boy whose family happened to be seated with us in our dinner rotation, and spent most of the cruise hanging out together. You just never know. The bottom line is, your kids will meet and become friends with numerous other kids, no matter what. Disney is really good at creating environments that encourage that kind of thing.

Is anyone the "obsessive planner" type? On the October cruise we had one who basically investigated all of the different non-Disney excursions for the different stops. (The Disney ones are ok but tend to be a little crowded and can be more touristy). So, speak up if anyone wants to surf the net and check things out. I'll buy you a drink on board :drinking1 - ok maybe two, for your hard work.

luckey-lasvegas

Cheri: I've been trying to check out the excursions. The only thing I really found out so far was the Dubloon web site. I'll keep you posted if I find anything. There is also a shore excursions . com I think. And the snuba web site looked fun but a little $$$ for the time you got to be out in the water.
I'm thinking we are going to do the self tour most of the time. We went to Trunk bay for our honeymoon (holy cow 14 years ago !) by sharing a cab with another couple.

Because it's still a little early in this thread, it might take a little time for the teenagers to come out of the woodwork for your DD to hook up with (we're hoping this thread will begin to "heat up" soon). However, there is sure to be quite a few on the cruise. Not long ago, Disney converted the ESPN sports bar that was on Deck 11 to a club called "The Stack", which is reserved for teenagers (adults strictly forbidden). In addition to whomever she meets on the DIS in advance of the cruise, your DD is sure to meet lots of friends to hand out with there.

Hello all! We are booked on the '05 Halloween Cruise also! And yes, I may be the obsessive one you've been looking for!! I booked through Costco in July '04!! My best friend is sailing in two days and I have given her more than enough info....

I AM SO EXCITED!!! :Pinkbounc It will be our first cruise: myself, DH and DD 5.5

I would be happy to help coordinate T or T'ing and a DISMeet on board.

Anything to take my mind off of this horrible, horrible California weather. :umbrella:

We responded to the othe 10/29/05 thread, but as this one has taken over, will post here. There will be me, DW, DD 11 and DS 8(almost 9). We will be in #6608. We are staying at the Hyatt at the airport the night before. As for halloween costumes...i don't know about our kids yet, but my DW wants to be a 1920's flapper and I have to come up with something to go with that I guess.

Hey Chris!

I have been hesitant to post thus far, since we weren't sure about our normal 'traveling group', and therefore not sure if we would even be going. But we feel pretty sure now that we will... can't give up that suite so easily!! :D

I have to admit that it will be different than what we are used to, but we are very excited nonetheless. Tim plans to join us, but nobody else from our group of regulars will be sailing.
But that's ok - the DIS party is still in my room!!!!

Great to hear from you, buddy!! Even though we won't have the same gang this time, I have no doubt, using the immortal words of that famous philosopher "Pink", we'll "get the party started" anyway!!

The DIS party will be in your room only on the days when it's not in ours!!

Welcome aboard, rvc!!

You'll love the Disney Cruise experience. The parks are great, but this is a whole new world... (if Aladdin and Jaz will forgive me).

The food, the shows, the ports, the kid's clubs, the nightlife... it's all there, and we wouldn't be going for the 6th time if it wasn't awesome. :)

And uh, Chris, sorry about being on your case already but, um, wait - no I'm not! And another thing - you snore!!

Hey RonnieJo: :wave2:

Since we are in the same area, just wondering which airport you fly from and which airlines. We generally fly Southwest (DH has travel rewards :-) but from Sacramento the earliest I can get to Orlando is 5:30 pm assuming their schedule stays the same.

So much for my day at the beach before we cruise!! :sad2:

Just wondering - do you fly a day early? :confused3 And where do you generally stay at the airport or at the coast?

tinkryansmom - I am answering for RonnieJo, who just happens to be my wife!

We do one of two things, depending on available airfare :

We fly American out of Fresno to Dallas, then on to Orlando. That's a couple of 2 and a half hour flights on an MD80, and Fresno Airport is only 25 minutes from home. But more often, we've flown out of LAX, directly to Orlando, also on American. I like the direct flight much better of course, and it's also on a 757, but the 4 hour drive to the airport I can do without! And then we also have to pay for gas, a hotel, and parking.

So it really depends on the fares and the flight schedules, but either way we prefer American Airlines. And we always fly out at least 2 or 3 days early, and spend time at DisneyWorld, or if we don't have time for that, we stay at the Radisson in Cocoa Beach, which is just 2 minutes away from the port!

I kind of like Head's Up, too. We did miss the cookies though. We'll have to remedy that this time. Up for a little shop?

Strange as it seems, we live less than an hour from the border and the last time I was in western Mexico I was 10 (that was ..... 15 years ago me thinks :rotfl: )

And, hey tarzanman! nice of you to drop by. I'm with you - gotta start taking off the pounds. Why do they go on so fast and come off so sloooooooowly?

tarzanman - I kinda remember you from the last cruise, but you'll have to refresh my memory - who are you again? :confused3

Chris - We were booked on the cruise the week before yours in L.A. this summer, but we cancelled. We are just going to DL instead. Besides, this cruise in October is mucho expensivo! (And with Cheri and Ronnie drinking together, it could cost me even more!!!!)

I'm just wondering what most of you are doing about dinner seating.
We chose second seating because of some advice I read at mouse savers.
Is anyone else in second seating? I'd hate for Cassie to be the only kid in the group that had a differn't time for eating and I really would like her to eat with us as much as possible.

1963 wasn't a bad year either... unless of course your name was Kennedy, and you lived in the White House. But here's some advice, in case you decide to take your motorcade to Dallas that week:

DUCK!

Ok. that was tacky. But since that was the week I was born, maybe I am the reincarnation of JFK's ill fated soul.

RonnieJo & Beano,
Have you guys thought at all about what you're gonna do with that piano? If you expect someone to actually play it, we better start taking lessons. If I have 9 months, I could probably learn a version of "Redneck Woman" that RonnieJo and Cheri could sing to (since we never got the Karaoke version last time).
Beano, I suspect you have several ideas on this, none of them having anything to do with music. :rotfl2:

Hugs,
RonnieJo :flower1:
I dunno, RonnieJo. That's the gist of the question. This is new territory for me--I don't even have a piano in my house, let alone in a SR on the Magic. Since this is a Halloween cruise, I thought of going as Billy Joel or Elton John, but that whole mystique will evaporate the second I put my fingers on the keys.

I can think of lots of things that a piano can be used for, but my lack of musical talent means that none of them involve the production of music of any kind!! Since Beano's imagination is much more advanced than mine, I figure he's got even more ideas, which is what prompted my question.

Beano, this is a time when only your much revered, though dubious, level of wisdom is needed. What is the fate of this piano on this cruise??

If you've cruised on the Magic as many times as Beano has, you do not need to be able to see to get around. I'd wager a round of drinks that he can walk blind-folded from any part of the ship to any other part without touching a wall or bumping into a chair.

Chris - I see 2 problems: First, I didn't know beer even came in 6-packs !!

12 oughta do it. :rotfl:

Second - Miller light? Nah. Coors light! :sunny: And the sailaway drinks are definitely a good idea too.

As for the piano, I am not sure, but if they bring any more food for the DIS party this year than they did last year, we'll need to use it as a table!
(I know a great piano joke, but I think I might get flamed for telling it on the DIS!!)

tarzanman - You'll always be cute enough to hang out with me. You 'da man!

:worship:

DisneyDmbNut - The drinks of the day include Yellow Birds, Rum runners, Bon Voyage drinks; but it seems kinda meaningless to me, since they have all of those everyday anyway! I mean, I don't think they even give you a better price when it's the drink of the day. When they make beer the drink of the day, and make them 50 cents, THEN I'll pay attention!!

DisneyDmbNut,
Just one additional bit on the drink of the day: never buy them from the servers running around with trays full of them. If you want one with the correct amount of alcohol in it, go the the bar and order one made. Much better that way.

02-02-2005, 05:32 PM

soccerdad-Chris

Betsy,

Glad to know your name. The other one took too long to type.

Martinis straight up, now that's a drinker!!! I'd be on my *booty* after only a couple of those. The drinks of the day that we've been discussing are big, fruity mixes of juices and some alcohol, and a pineapple slice and umbrella for looks. You're talking about something altogether different: serious drinks with pure alcohol. The advice that RonnieJo and I gave you is mute here: you won't find any servers running around the deck of the Magic with a tray full of straight-up martinis. You'll definitely have to visit one of our recommended bartenders for those.

But, I must say, you sound like someone that likes to have fun!! :drinking1

Chris

RonnieJo66
02-03-2005, 01:39 AM
The part about not buying drinks from the 'walk-around' castmembers with trays is definitely true! The drinks are weaker, and they've been carried around in the 90 degree sun for a while so they're melted and slushy too! Yuck. Go to the bar and order one; and if it's a blender drink, and nobody else has ordered one, they sometimes even give you the extra from the blender, for free! Free is always good!! :drinking1

I agree Chris, Hopeton is the dude! If I remember correctly, he was usually at the bar at the adult pool on deck 9. I think he was tending bar on CC too, at 'Conched Out'. The man pulls a mean beer! ;)

Chris and Cheri - last year's DVD is FINALLY on it's way to you! Sorry for the loooong delay. Real life can put such a cramp in my style sometimes! Sorry you guys aren't in it all that much - we didn't really know you very well yet. So this year... you won't be in it at all!!! LOL

Just kidding... and for all of you who've never cruised with me before, be prepared to be photographed and videographed constantly. Camera in one hand, frosty mug in the other - that be Beano! :wave2:

Do they have the Margaritas or Daquris from the machines like big adult slurpees? Or do the they blend everything ? Luckey-
They blend everything from scratch, as far as I've seen. What you describe sounds good, but I think a Hurricane infused with almost anything is going to be yummy.

Personally, I like a 22-ounce Disney souvenier mug infused with beer. :drinking1

I think I'll stick with the girls and the fruity drinks, although I have been known to do a shot of Tres Generations from time to time.

Did the soccermom and dad grow up playing soccer or is it only the kids?
I played in AYSO Reg 59 Orange County my whole life, Then at Pacifica HS, College ball at CSULB and finally the OC womens soccer league on the sting.

Don't ask me how I wound up with a figure skating daughter ! princess:

Soccermom played some while growing up---also in Orange County. Soccer was one of my passions growing up, and still is (though I mostly watch now, and coach a little). As a kid, I played on competitive teams that travelled around the state.

Our DIS screen names, though, are inspired primarily from the fact that DS Timmy is a young soccer-stud, and a fair number of our weekends are spent on the road at soccer tournaments (e.g. last week we were in San Bernardino, and this weekend we'll be in Lancaster (yeccchhh!!).

I'm with you on the beer mug thing, Chris. Mine got swiped out of my suite last year though! I think housekeeping picked it up amongst all those wine glasses we had all over the place.
Now I only have 4 of those mugs at home! :rotfl2:

You and Cheri should be receiving a DVD from me in a day or 2. It's pretty silly, actually, but I hope you get a laugh out of it. Word of warning though: it is NOT child appropriate! :p

Anybody catch the recent news article about the new Disney ship?? They're waiting for the dollar to gain on the euro before they get going on it, but at least it's more than just a pie-in-the-sky thought now! Still, it could be years before she sails. Put me down for the, um, Eisner suite, man! :Pinkbounc

One of the moms from my skating rink was at Disneyland last Wednesday and it was a very slow day , so she began to talk to the CM's there. She said that they were very excited ablout the new Disneyland President who used to be in charge of DCL. They also said that the west coast cruise would become a permanent thing. She did'nt ask about a new ship but we wondered if maybe they'll do west coast during Hurricane season until the new ship is ready. It will be a great thing for us west coasters! :cheer2:

Beano,
I seem to recall from an earlier post that Luckey likes Hurricanes made with Mango-infused Malibu rum. I'm sure something like that can be arranged, but it might make a mess if we put it inside the piano along with the silver bullets (or keg, as Tarzanman suggests).

Luckey, did I get that right?

Also, I was kind of assuming that you and Tim basically bring each other to everything, making you a natural dancing pair. That's what brought the old quote to mind.

Chris

Yep, we've stayed at the Radisson a few times before the cruises. We've usually paid around $95.00 per night, but we don't need parking. So, I'd say $139.00 is pretty good; that's about 40 bucks or so to park, which is reasonable. It's a really nice place to stay, and the shuttle ride is a mere 5 minutes to the port! Uhhhh, Tim..... I think you mean the world's *second* largest debt issuer. You forgot about that guy with the white beard, top-hat, and red-white-and-blue suit (i.e. Uncle Sam).

Besides, folks, let's not forget: this "What's My Line?" thingy is supposed to be about guessing what Tim does, not who he works for. Even if you get the company right, this particular employer has hundreds, if not thousands, of distinct occupations within it. I already know what he does, and for whom, so I will not add anything here, but Tim, even if you told everyone who you work for, that will not make it obvious what you do...... :earboy2: :earboy2: :earboy2:

I was checking online for rates for upcoming cruises. I noticed this date as I would love to cruise on Halloween. Could anyone tell me the best place to book, actually the cheapiest? I have to find a resonable price to get DH to agree. It's funny he is sick of Disney World but loves the cruise. I will take what I can get.

I booked with Dreams Unlimited
DreamsUnlimited (http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com)
they were $300.00 less than DCL offered and I got a $50.00 onboard credit on top of that.

We booked on board last year, so we got a $200 on board credit for this cruise. Then, I rolled it over to DreamsUnlimited, and got another $100 rebate!

I'd say booking with DreamsUnlimited is as good as you're gonna do...

Betsy - Don't think in terms of Ft. Lauderdale. The company Tim works for has offices in every major city in the United States (And half of the rest of the countries in the world!) That help?

Chris,
You make an excellent point but that was the idea. Knowing the company will help. Sorry about that little debt statistic. When speaking in terms of corporations they leave out governments most of the time. Largest corporate debt issuer is what I should have said. Hopefully that will at least nail down the company. Then we can get to the actual job that I do for them. Good luck.

Hey Beano my Uncle worked for a people planter all through high school, then went on to bagging in Viet Nam and is now an Orange County Coroner. He worked in LA for a long time also. He always has the best house on the block for Halloween.
As far as Tarzanman I'm going to guess B of A or Citybank as the company.

Lucky - I worked for BKBS mortuary (which, sadly, no longer exists) in Anaheim, right in the heart of Orange County. We also had locations in Garden Grove, Pacific View, Whittier, Norwalk and Long Beach, so I spent lots of my time at the OC Coroner's Office, as well as the LA Coroner's Office, for one funeral home or another! I most likely worked with your uncle; sorry to say I don't remember him specifically - it was quit a few years ago!

Yes, by all means you must attend our DIS party. I told you - I need a bartender! :rotfl:

Just kidding. Come and enjoy the fun. As the cruise draws closer, I would like to know when people are doing excursions, or more importantly, when they're not, so we can try to schedule the party at a time most convenient for everyone. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Beano,
We plan our excursions around when you schedule your party. Just say when, and the excursions will fall into place from that!! You're a pro at this, so I know I don't need to say that scheduling it the day before a day-at-sea is a given!! :earboy2: :earboy2:

I seem to have the same non-recollection of last years party as you do!! I recall Minnie and Snow White, an "appetizer" plate from room service that would have easily fed everyone on the ship for a month, a buncha bottles of Cakebread chardonnay, a case of silver bullets, and....and....and....

...everything in between is a blur...

Sure was fun, though...that much I do recall!!

Hello all! I am having trouble keeping up with you guys! So much to do, so little time....

First of all, to Beano: in the "guess my line" game. Please know I meant no disrespect to you or your profession. When you replied "plant things" ;)
I thought I would be cheeky and just put the two together. I was really thinking landscaping or orchard consultant (again with the ag thing) I hope you were not offended. On a more humorous note, when I relayed this game to my DH over dinner, I mentioned the "plant things" line and his first and really only thought was..to put politely...a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation. What is up with that! :earseek: Must be guy humor.?

Tim: I would have guessed Citibank also, but if you just moved from Michigan, I am thinking automotive. How about GMAC? :confused3

Betsy: You daughter is adorable. princess: How old is she?

Luckey: I went to Monsters Inc Disney on Ice last night with DD5 We won tickets so it was worth it..but DD not too happy about the scream test at the beginning. Pretty good production though. I am from So Cal. Grew up in Riverside County and went to high school in Fresno County (Sierra HS) college was SDSU and UCSB.

OK- think I am caught up again. PMCougar needs to join the "whats my line" but since y'all have cruised together before, myself, Luckey and Betsy are the only guessers. HHMMM...I cannot wait to meet everyone!

We're on deck 7, cat 11 - kinda hoping for an upgrade since we booked last July but am told, at best to expect cat 9 on deck 2. So heres my question: would you take the upgrade and move down that low? or stay on deck 7 only a few doors from the "private deck" which is why I picked that stateroom.

Johnna

BeanoC
02-17-2005, 02:38 PM
Johnna - Absolutely no offense taken. You gotta have a sense of humor in this business. And believe me - I've heard 'em all !

In my opinion, you're better off in cat. 11 on deck 7 than to move to deck 2.
That 'private' area on deck 7 is great, if you can get it to yourself! Just my opinion.

DW found a great deal on airline tickets, so I think I am gonna go ahead and buy them now. Round trip from LAX for less than $900 for all 4 of us!

Then all I gotta do is pay for the cruise!

And the resort at WDW.
And the Epcot tickets.
And the Mickey's BBQ tickets.
And the limos.
And the excursions.
And the bar tab.

And our trip to Disneyland in June.

:scared:

Better ask the boss if I can get some overtime. Wait... something's wrong with that idea...

Ronnie Jo,

You looked great going down the water slide at the Poly, at Costa Maya, etc. You just looked like you were having fun, smiling, tan, all that.

And that tram thing up the hill ... looks way cool. Could have me a few drinks overlooking everything. It's just right at the end of the pier, right? Or you have to take a taxi. Both St. Thomas and St. Maarten kind of run together in my mind.

BTW, what do Matt and Kimmie do on board? I assume your DD doesn't hang in the Lab since DS is too old. I'm also assuming that Timmy will be "too old" and BTDT by October. I hate to just have him "run wild" with his Key to the World Card and Quarter Masters being the only thing for "tweens" to do.

How's everybody's weekend? What's it like in Vegas, Luckey? We have beautiful blue skies. No, wait, it's raining. :umbrella: NO, wait, it's blue skies again. :sunny: NO, wait, here comes the rain. :umbrella: NO, wait..... Just bring back the darned drought so we know what to expect

Hi everyone ! Yesterday was rain all day but so far today it's blue skies and puffy white clouds. I hope it is like this on Monday we hope to do a little hiking at Red Rock. DD is out with her friends taking full advantage of her 4 day weekend. Does Tarzanman work for Disney? I know their a serious cause of my personal debt !

Hey all...

Luckey - No, Tarzanman does not work for Disney. Although he and I both send major portions of our paychecks to Disney! :goodvibes

Cheri - You and Chris will have to join us for the trip up to Paradise Point. The view is spectacular, and the drinks are even better! And of course, as Ronnie says, you have to go through all the jewelry shops on the way back; an added plus. :guilty:

I'm not too excited about St. Maarten, personally. We've been there twice already, and there ain't nuthin' there I need. Might have to stay on board and take advantage of the relatively empty pools, etc. :sunny:

Beano,
Spectacular views, great drinks, good friends....I believe Paradise Point sounds like a good plan. Count us in, buddy!! :moped: :moped:

As for jewelry, two Cat 3 cruises for us this year means that Cheri will likely be hocking jewelry in St. Thomas, not shopping for it. Of course, I'll be sleeping on the couch tonight for that remark.

Re: St. Maarten, I generally agree. The beaches there are nice, and there is the occasional spectacular "view" on them. The problem is, for every spectacular "view", there are 10 that are, uhhhh, well..... let's just say that there are some things should never be seen in public. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

BTW, the DVD is cool..very well done. I'm thinking of taking a vid cap of Cheri's nice "gesture" on her entrance to Heads Up and makin' it the wallpaper on my laptop--you know, the one I do client presentations on!!
