Kurt: Glad you are safe, I have just been sick by all the pictures of those poor people burning up on that bus. I can only imagine those families agony. We are headed back to Dallas tomm. and hoping for calm flight.
Barb: Thanks for the comment about the Swan. I can't tell you how excited I am about staying there.
Kim: Sorry about your friends. I will keep them in my prayers. Saw your message about getting out of steerage, but have decided to be on the "Mickey Boat" as DD calls it, I think I would ride almost anywhere. But I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us, a upgrade would be exciting.
Will start SouthBeach tomm. after all this overeating. Wish me luck. Of course I guess I will probably gain it back on the ship. I just can't ignore all those souffles and mickey bars, even though I should, but it will make me feel a little less guilty I guess.
DD was drinking a Sprite last night, we were walking back to the room and she looked up at me and said "why is this so Spritey"? Not sure what to tell her on that one.....
Much warm happy thoughts to you all.

kurt- this may be dumb (especially from someone who used to live in LA), how does it take 10 hours to move 1/2 mile like the news was reporting? Aren't there cars moving somewhere ? I just don't get how an entire freeway is just stopped. Something has to be going somewhere. Where is my brain short circuiting here?
trishy, where do you live? my kids where at Disneyland yesterday, too. Did you see a young girl squealing "Stop it, Timmy!" constantly? That was them! :rotfl2:
Our DIS Cast of Character Photo Album is still pretty thin.... c'mon, send Cheri a picture. No one will see except those who have also sent in pictures. It would be a great way for the teens to get a look at each other. Send me a photo and I'll buy you your first drink at the Beano-Ronnie Jo party. Can't pass up an offer like that!

Cheri,
I am also in Texas, so we are getting alot more on our news than probably the rest of the country. I think alot of the problem was that so many people were trying to leave at once. It took them quite awhile...to open both sides of the freeway to Northbound traffic. To me, once they announced a mandatory evacuation, that should have been a no brainer. From the news here it said that alot of cars were overheating and running out of gas, so I'm sure that that added to the troubles. Fuel trucks were actually trying to get through the jam to fill people up, so that they could keep going. It still seems like a ridiculous amount of time, but I have talked to people who have traveled to my hometown from Houston (about a 5-6 hour drive normally) that said it took well over 24 hours. What a mess, but thank God that people are safe!!!!
On a happier note....I set a goal on the 19th of May to lose 50 lbs. before the cruise. This morning, I hit that goal 5 WEEKS EARLY!!!!!! :cool1:  :cool1: I've decided I am going to try to hit 60 before we go. Can I do it? :scratchin I don't know...but I am sure going to give it a try! Have a great weekend everyone!

Beano- shhhhhhh!
on the "can we do that?" note, on the July cruise, we were going to try and go down the Mickey pool at midnight. Trouble was that someone kept locking the door. :confused3 Our only choice would have been to climb UP before going down - not the best idea for a bunch of (adults who had had more than a few). I'm sure that wouldn't have been allowed.
Julie - congrats on your weight loss. A few years ago I left behind 45 pounds. This year half found it's way back. (Stubborn, little buggers.) Turns out you have to keep exercizing and eating right. Bummer!

Well we made it home today.... Our neighbors who stayed in Katy said we didn't get enough rain to even water the lawn. We are lucky that the storm went that far east. We drove in from Austin today in 5 1/2 hours. Any place there was a stop light/intersection/merge was slow. That was 4 hours faster than when my wife went to Austin.
Cheri--- talking to my wife about how you could move nowhere forever... it seems that the delays were caused by people exiting the freeway looking for gas. It backed up onto the freeway and then caused total gridlock. Just imagine if there was a gas station directly on the freeway and every car had to stop and tank up. A car could only move each whenever the a car finished tanking up. They fixed the gridlock by opening up both sides of the freeway.
Looks like we can now relax and get ready for the cruise.... Although since everything is fine I am off to Italy again on Tuesday....

Cheri - BUMMER!!!! I wish we knew - Kaila and Courtney were running around the park from 9 - 2 because they decided at the last minute they didn't want to go on the tour. (Good thing, too because the "50th" tour was filled with info we already knew. At least the backdoor rides were cool: Splash Mountain, PoTC, Buzz Lightyear, Storybook Cruise, Thunder Mountain RR) They would've loved to have hung out with your crew.
Sue Ellen - Congrats on the poundage-loss. Way to go!

trishy-
we're going again on the 8th. It's a reunion of the July 9th DIS'ers.
We hosted the party that cruise. While the pretending-to-be-grown-ups were out on the verandah having a few, the kids were inside scarfing all of the food. Somehow, me thinks 'tis not to be a problem this time around.
hey, someone clarify the candy situation for me for t-or-t'ing: are we supposed to remember to bring bags? (remembering isn't my best thing) and are we just packing bags of candy? No one is doing the Martha Stewart thing and making 43 cute little candy bags with raffia bows and homemade cookies inside, are they? :scared:

Sounds like fun. You must have been a tight group. We probably won't go to DL again until after the cruise. On the night of the 8th, we'll be at the Green Day concert. Then the H.I.M. concert on the 15th. After that, we have to move out of our house by the 19th. It's going to be one he!! of a busy month! http://hometown.aol.com/kabob1966/images/sweat.gif But nothing gets in the way of vacation, right? :cool1: When we get back, we'll be "trailer trash" until our house is done (hopefully December).
We are doing cute bags, but because it's more special trick or treating on the cruise. No homemade stuff, though. I don't want to sicken anybody. All store bought & fun game stuff. Figure they can all use their DCL pillow cases to trick or treat with. Hey, it's vacation - it's "NO PROBLEM, MON!"
as 'philandering Phil' our tour guide in Jamaica always says.

Green Day sounds like a blast. Not familiar with HIM though.
I'm impressed that you're making bags. How are you going to keep them from getting all smooshered on the flight over? Even if I put stuff in carry-ons, it would still be crumpled (and I have to have room for the important carry on stuff - like wine for the party :rotfl2: Priorities, we must have priorities :rotfl: )

It is amazing what the aftermath of Rita has brought here in Houston. There are huge lines at any open gas station. The grocery stores are just starting to open but they don't have much to sell. The lines to get into them are as long as the gas lines. My wife got back from one store that wasn't too bad but she got the last gallon of milk. One guy had 4 gallons in his cart. There was no bread, produce, etc. I can't imagine how bad it would be if the hurricane actually hit here. It is amazing what we take for granted. Thankfully we love to cook. We are going to have eggs benedict for brunch with homemade english muffins. Champagne anyone? :teeth:

Does anyone know if there are liquor stores available between the airport and Port Canaveral? Or is it better just to pack your stash before you leave home? :confused3

Speaking of Passports, Trevor's original passport came today (the one that was in New Orleans!) I had already sent for mine and his to be re-done and paid the overnight fees for it. So now he has 2 passports (strange!)
Tara's and Steve's still have not arrived, but I'm hoping they will be here soon.
We are getting so close, I can't wait!!! 3 weeks before I leave for CA, then home for 1 day then off to FL for the cruise. I will NEVER get everything ready in time :earseek:

Talking smack about baseball is so pointless. Are there ever any new teams that are good? At least in the NFL, the wealth is spread around a bit. If I have to hear about the Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Giants, or Angels for another October it will be too soon. Too late! Already happening. At least the White Sox are a breath of fresh air this year. It gets old!

That is how I felt too. When she only has 2 ID's, the passport and BC, and they have them both....really felt good to see that BC fall out of the envelope when I opened it. I am so glad that I get to keep her old PP too, because the pic is soooo cute. But it was kinda sad, the way they stamped it cancelled in big red letters, and poked two holes in the bottom where her pic is....how dare they cancel my pookie!!!!!
Hope you get your son's soon, so that is another thing that you can cross off your list.
TRM: Sorry about DH's kidney stones. Know how he feels, went through that about 20 years ago myself. I swear the pain rivaled my child birth pains. Really hurts. Hope you found some Disney for yourself yesterday when you were shopping.

Is this a good deal if only one of us drinks wine. I don't drink wine, but DH does. I can't see him finishing an entire bottle of wine by himself a night. Well I could, but I just wouldn't enjoy seeing it unless of course he spent the night in someone else's cabin and then I wouldn't give a hoot. :rotfl2: How much does a glass of wine cost? I'm thinking that if he drank two or three glasses of wine a night, then that would probably equal the cost of the cheaper package anyway. Anyone have any ideas what the price of a glass of wine is or is it dependant on the type?

OK Question time. Besides Betsy w/ her Nani costume , are any other adults going to dress up on Halloween ?
RJ DD has a Crown from libby lu if you feel like wearing your formal again. I'm sure she'd let you borrow it.
I am sure that I will regret it, but I will dress up. The Pookmeister General has begged me to do it, and this will be a good chance to do it and not be too out of place.
We have not had any good family pictures lately, and kids grow so fast, so we are going to take advantage of all those great backgrounds on the ship and get some pics done. I found the sweetest little formal dress on Ebay. If anyone wants to see it, it's Item: 8220193795. It's from a firm called Angelickids. I think it's suppose to be a flower girl or junior bridesmaid dress, but it works for me. If anyone else is looking for a cheap tux for small son, or a dress up dress for DD, you might check out their Ebay store. Their shipping is high ($15) but I figure when I got a dress that would be at least $80 or more in the store, and I got it for $20, then I am still ahead.

I've been putting in ridiculous hours to finish a major upgrade of the imaging system for my employer. Trent is getting lots of days substitute teaching, so one way or another we'll be able to afford this wacky junket. Trent is also the Scoutmaster for Hannah's troop and as if that's not enough, she's a recruiter for the local district. Since the beginning of the school year she seems to have one evening meetings after another, so that's where we've been hiding.
Julie: Thanks for putting the t-shirts together for us. They arrived today and they look just perfect.
We've been assembling all the clothes and costumes we'll need and almost have everything ready to leave a 4 weeks from Friday. We are definitely staying at the Radisson Resort at the Port. We have decided to extend our stay after the cruise and have booked a couple of nights at the Shades of Green Resort. We just can't leave the area without a little taste of the park's magic.
Cheri: Weve been meaning to post some pics, but have been having some difficulty especially since our home PC went down with a bad motherboard. I've been working off my laptop, but I hate a QWERTY keyboard. (I use a Maltron keyboard designed for the one-handed.) Here's one of my favorite family shots from a few of years ago. I know you might not want to come and leave out the ole DH. I am not sure what the rules are for trying to squeeze in a 5th on a 4 person ressie. Beano would know more about them allowing that, but if they do allow it, then he would be able to come as well. Of course you could still do the scramble and still get a second brunch since this one won't count against you as it is our ressie, and get yourself a dinner one as well. Lemeno. Lynne - No promises here, but from my experience, I would say there's a very good chance of a 5th person being allowed at Palo. Many of the tables are only for 4 people, but the booths... if they'll hold 4, they'll hold 5! :)
So my advice is, if nothing else is available, go to Palo a day or 2 before your ressie, tell the maitre de (or as I like to call him, the dude at the desk) you have 5 instead of 4 and see what they say. Generally speaking, "no" is not in their vocabulary. I never let them tell me no! :teeth:

:cool1: Yeah!!!! One month!!!
Charlie - that picture is too adorable!!!! OMG - how on earth did you get all 4 characters in there? It's hard enough for me to get just 2 characters in a picture. The girls are such cuties. Really adorable.
Lynne: We "squeezed" 2 more into our reservation for 2 on our first cruise - Palo is pretty cool about it. They seem to understand and even encourage passengers to get to know each other and meet up for meals. DCL really wants to please everyone. My daughters have all had friends join our table for dinner or they join their friends - it's all okay there. We tried that on our last cruise (a different major cruise line) and I thought our waiter was going to have a seizure. On our last DCL cruise, one night my oldest was going to have dinner with the teen group, but decided she didn't want to after all (after we were already in Lumiere's). She was passing through the atrium and our server spotted her, went out and grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into the dining room. She was wearing shorts and a t-shirt (dh & I were embarrassed to tell the truth), but he insisted she stay and have dinner because she was a "growing girl". They're just that way - always trying to please. You'll absolutely love this cruise. Having cruised 2 other lines, I'm soooo looking forward to being back on DCL.
One month!!!!

You know, trishy, I have to agree! I have had so many conversations with both family and friends who have cruised on other lines, and it always seems that Disney treats their guests best, by far! Whether it's room service, dining room service, boarding issues, cleanliness, dealing with problems, etc. etc. ... Disney gets higher rankings than all the rest.
If I told someone that I had a strange dream... "I was on a Disney cruise, and when I tried to get off the ship, they stopped me and asked me to help them log passengers on and off"... they'd say, "Whoa, what a weird dream. Impossible"!!
NCL actually did that. They also rationed food after informing passengers that they were eating too much!!
I once spent 4 hours sitting in a ship's lobby, waiting for the ship to clear customs. No luggage, no food, no drinks. Pure boredom.
On Disney, it's never taken us more than maybe 30 minutes to get off the ship and to our car.
Anyway, I can go on and on... repeat cruisers know what I mean. For you first time DCL cruisers... get ready for the best treatment afloat! :)

OK, I see that I'm a bit late finding this discussion, seeing that it's been going on for over a year!

Thanks!

Once again, I'm really overloaded by the number of posts here!! My current question (I gots lots, I promise!) is what about trick or treating? HAs anyone heard about this or a costume party/parade?
My son is 3, and he'll be Woody. He wanted to be THomas but since we're on a Disney cruise, I steered him more to a disney character. Can't wait! He's the cutest cowboy EVAH!!
HArd to believe after all this planning and waiting, it's almost here... I think I'll implode before Oct. 29 though!

Trishy, thanks to you and DaBeano for the info. I totally agree about how friendly DCL is. I have also been on 2 other lines, Carnival (8 or 9 cruises) and NCL (2 cruises), and I have one cruise on the Disney Magic under my belt, and really, they do make you feel so special. The reason I wasn't sure about Palo making way for a 5th was because the last time I cruised it was just me and DD (her Christmas present) and I went to Palo all alone.... Don't get me wrong, I still loved it. But I am glad I will have others to join me this time, so they can see what I already knew, that Palo ROCKS!!!

VERY YUMMY, addicting too, and ya can't get them here, unless you go to one of them thar specialty English shops, or possibly order them online, although if there is a place to order them online, DON'T ANYONE TELL ME!!! The photo op with the girls is a must.
Betsy: You're killing me here....what did UPS bring??

My name is Butch.
I'm traveling with my girlfriend.
No kids. No trick or treating. Just a massive amount of alcohol consumption!
Unfortunately I have cruised several times before with the two characters known as Beano and Tim and I feel that I must tell all of you to be afraid....be very afraid! If we are lucky there will still be some beer left after the second day.

The documents on the website are fine to use (and in the past when I cruised as a cast member I used the .pdf documents (same as the online ones) to fill out and print out. The docs are really not that big of a deal, but when people get them it makes the cruise a bit more "real"
Hey Beano! You are very welcome--
$200 huh? Hmmmm, now what can I think of to drink? Hmmmmm
Seriously though, it was my pleasure to help. I love saving people money whenever I can. :)

Come on really? How many?
It's like the Tootsie Pop thing. How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? The world may never know.

I always got so mad as a kid...I wanted to say "give it some more licks!!" I know..little crazy talking to bad cartoon owls! :rotfl:
I was in marching band....It was so fun! Do they get to march really good designs? We had a former college director, so they were detailed!! :cool1:

Just cause I want to hog all the posts today:
I need advice....I think I want to change to late seating....DU said, no problem...so, should I? My biggest concern was that Kate is use to eating early and would get hungry, but then I remembered that we would be on a cruise and hunger wouldn't be an issue. Should I do it?
