View Full Version : What's your Skyauction strategy?

GENERALLY, I bid with a strategy when I am on eBay - I wait until the auction is almost over. Although I wait that long, I don't do it to be a sniper, I wait to bid so that I don't get caught up in the excitement of the auction, and therefore I am more level-headed. Sometimes, depending on the item, I bid my max right up front and just wait for the auction to end.

I have never bid over at Skyauction, though I am registered. Do you find people bidding with a strategy? Do you bid with the max bid/autobid feature? Or do you rebid each time you get outbid?

Just curious as to your personal strategy...

I use the autobid on Skyauction. This way I can put the most I am willing to pay and hope I am pleasantly surprised when I win at a lower price. :)

I basically wait and watch the bid on and off until the last hour and then bid, sometimes I use the auto bid with the max that I am willing to go. Other times when I see I am outbid I try adding $5....then stop the bidding. I wait to see if I won. I went on it tonight to see what "hotels" they had. I have never bid on hotels only the 7 night time share deals. My daughter is going to a concert at the House of Blues on Oct 15 & I wanted to go to HHN's so I tried Pricelne every which way & ended up with nothing. I was going to retry on Monday night but when I saw the Double Tree Club Lake Buena Vista on SkyAuction at 6pm tonight & it was ending at 7pm.... I waited until 6:30, used auto-bid ($5 was my total), the bid went from $1 to $2 and then no one bid against me. I ended up getting it for $2 plus the $32 tax & service fee that gets tacked on...so for $34 per night I got a decent deal. Adding the $15 SkyAuction handle fee makes a total of $117 for 3 nihgts, divide that by 3 and you get $39 per night with tax...I made out better here than I would have on Priceline for that level hotel. ... which brings me to my quesion... has anyone recently stayed here??? I have checked the trip advisor reviews and they seem mixed (more positive than negative though...thank goodness)

Sharon you did GREAT!!!

the hotels I have seem on skyauction sometimes you could get a better deal going to their website - that extra $32 a night really hurts some good deals.

glad to see that it worked well for you!

I have done both - when I needed it badly - baseball game - I bid and use the autobid -

I have also waited until the last minute - that didn't work for me - the other person had an autobid too - and they were willing to go pretty high - and the time ran out.....

I think I did too good to be true deal!! They (SkyAuction) cannot confirm my ressies for 2 business days and I can't wait that long!! I will be going to HHN on Oct 14th! If they cannot confirm faster and I cannot get the 14th, it may be too late for me to try and get something else. I emailed them before...that was when they said at least 2 business days if not longer... 2 business days from today would be Wed...and that leaves me a week if I can't have the 14th. They are looking into getting it faster, or canceling it form me.. I hope they have a decision by tonight... I may have to resort back to Priceline... or end up spending a fortune (I really don't want to do that either). I knew it was too good to be true that I won it for the $2 = $32... oh well .... say a pray that it goes thru tonight...
