OK...here goes...it looks like it's time to begin yet another edition of our beloved Parks Game...Still going strong after 3 years!
It is customary to write a new introduction to each and every thread...but Granny wrote such a good one for the last one, I decided to use that one...(slightly edited to keep it up to date :))

This continues the long-running DIS board trivia game about the WDW theme parks. This thread was begun on September 17, 2001 by supamaki in the days after the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and was a source of escapism and a safe haven in the days following that great tragedy. Since that time, this thread has stayed on this board through it’s eleven previous versions with hundreds of players partaking in the fun of asking and answering questions related to WDW theme park trivia.

There are only a few rules….

You may ask a question after correctly answering a question and being awarded an AAQ (Ask A Question) card.

Questions should be in bold to allow us to follow the game more easily.

Lurking is okay, but it’s a lot more fun to jump in and guess! There is no punishment for wrong answers here!!

Questions should be focused on the four WDW theme parks in order to maintain our place on this board. A continued thank you to the moderators for allowing this game to continue for more than 3 years.

And, in keeping with Parks Game tradition, we will begin this thread with the question that started it all….

In what WDW attraction is there a dog named Nana? And what year did it open?

Now, come on in and join the fun!

carpedm
10-01-2004, 09:54 AM
That would be Peter Pan's Flight, which opened in 1971.

In honor of today...

Today marks the 33rd and 22nd anniversaries of what two important events in WDW history?

Granny
10-01-2004, 10:16 AM
carpe....wow, thanks for reminding me about that. I can't believe I forgot that today is THE Day!

The day that WDW (Magic Kingdom) and EPCOT opened, of course.

Higgs....thanks for starting the new thread. Very eloquent! :p

carpedm
10-01-2004, 10:22 AM
October 1, 1971 - Magic Kingdom's Grand Opening
October 1, 1982 - EPCOT's (in it's capitalized form) Grand Opening

AAQ to Granny. Let's see if we can keep this theme going...

Granny
10-01-2004, 10:40 AM
Thanks Carpe...in keeping the theme running,

What were the Adventureland attractions when WDW opened in 1971?

smolensk
10-01-2004, 10:46 AM
Good morning all.

To think this thread is now up to its 12 incarnation. I remember when it was Part Deux.

I pick out of my pocket a part 11 AAQ card.

What are the tallest structures in each of the theme parks?

-SLouis

LindaD
10-01-2004, 10:50 AM
Jungle Cruise
Swiss Family Treehouse
Tropical Serenade

carpedm
10-01-2004, 11:01 AM
MK- Big Thunder Mountain
MGM - ToT
AK - Tree of Life (will Expedition Everest take over?)
Epcot - SpaceShip Earth

smolensk
10-01-2004, 11:17 AM
Mostly correct for the four carpedm here is your view from the top AAQ card.

Just a side note about Spaceship Earth. I believe the wand which is actually the highest structure in Epcot is not truly attached to the structure of Spaceship Earth. It may be considered a part of each other, but from a civil engineering perspective there are two separate structures.

-SLouis

carpedm
10-01-2004, 11:23 AM
Doh! I forgot about the wand! (BTW- I hope they remove it soon. I prefer the cleaner look of just SSE.)

Anyway, new question...

Who were the official first guests into the Magic Kingdom on this date in 1971?

Granny
10-01-2004, 11:51 AM
Linda....you knocked my Adventureland softball question out of the park!!! A Opening Day AAQ card to you!! :)

And I'll guess "Beautiful Science" in Innoventions as an attraction sponsored by Monsanto. :)

PIRATES - Don't forget the Pirate at the exit of the Haunted Mansion (he had seven winsome wives) ;)

PRESIDENTS - There's also a "President" in SSE - can't find him? Most people never realize that many attractions in WDW use Audio-Animatronics figures whose heads are made from the mold used to create the U.S. Presidents in the Hall of Presidents!

For example, in Spaceship Earth, during the scene in Egypt, the bald atttandee to the Pharoh is our 27th President, William Howard Taft (minus the moustache!).

Other attractions included the former World of Motion, where the bust of Richard M. Nixon was used on the inventor of the triangular wheel.

MERMAIDS - Don't forget the mermaids (that are now buried under thousands of tons of dirt) who are resting in peace from the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

DINOSAURS - Dinorsaur Gerties in MGM

amandadaddy
10-06-2004, 02:57 PM
There are also Dinosaurs on Ellen's Energy Adventure.

How about One Man's Dream? I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be suprised to find one or all three of 'em there.

Dinosaurs are also at Herster and Chester's Dino-Rama.

Pirates and Presidents..............there are Pirates on Peter Pan's Flight.....can't think of any places to find Presidents that haven't been named other than the pictures of 'em on the bills in the numerous cash registers.

......Ariel appears as a mermaid in Fantasmic!

That's all for now.

Is it pigs? Or are they just laying around in the mud?

This was not supposed to be a difficult question!
There is only one pair of animals chasing each other around in a circle, in the same scene that women are chasing the pirates around.

James---

I want to say it's Donkeys (goats, maybe)...is that EVEN close?
Been thru it over 100 times, but can't quite picture the animals...
The wench with the broom comes to mind.
Maybe a dog chasing a cat???

Oh, well--purely guesses at this moment.

In honor of the political correctness oriented changes on PoC, I'll say that the hens are chasing the roosters.

The 500,000,000th guest? I can't do a "virtual" park tour to get that answer, so I'll leave it up to someone who is more internet saavy than I to look this one up.

I'll give this question some time to play out before I redeem my AAQ card.

wdwtheplacetobe - sorry, that's not the change I was looking for. In fact, I didn't know that changes had been made to the HM on the basis of CM requests. That's one of the benefits of this game.....the stuff you learn.

Put youself in the shoes of a CM and ask "what would I want to see changed if I were here everyday?"and you'll probably come up with the right answer.

Great to see it! I haven't been around too much on the last several threads, but I have noticed it's WAY slower than it used to be. So how about a new twist - just to keep it interesting but new.

Let's do a sort of Jeopardy version of the game - that is, you give an answer and the questions will have to be guessed. It should be pretty specific, so there aren't too many possible questions that go with the answer.

I'll start. In questioning my answer, you should also say if you like the idea or not. And remember, put your answer in bold now.

So let's start with an easy one just to get goind. And the answer is . . .

Song of the South

Hi gang....been pretty busy at work, and nice to see the PG thread alive and kicking! Here...I've stopped by the Boardwalk Bakery for lots of breakfast goodies for anyone who cares to partake.

As for an attraction requiring a ticket, it must be one that I've never been to since we've never been asked for a ticket before. So I'll just have to guess that maybe the CM was joking? If so, I guess the Great Movie Ride CM's might ask for such a thing.

Granny - as you walk towards the GMR, follow the courtyard exit to your right which leads to VotLM. Turn immediately to your left and head for the Backlot Tour. Along the way you will pass WWtbaM on your right and several keosks and silver Airstream trailers on your left. I think there are four of them, each has a large umbrella or awning in front of it and a character inside who appears several times throughout the day for photos and autographs. DD and I discovered it in '99 when she was too scared to face Ursulla, so we started exploring while the rest of our group went to see VotLM and got several special pictures and autographs, one of which is on my desk!.

MBabe - I'll take mine with ketchup, mayo, cheese and onions - thanks!

MickeyBabe has the bonus question solved: On October 26, 1954, Walt Disney's 1st television program, "Disneyland," premiered on ABC.

We still need an answer to the main question. :teeth:

Good morning folks! Well, not so good for us here in Cardinals Land. :(

But what the heck...we play the game to get away from all that, right?

So...

There are several 3-dimensional figures of Mickey Mouse in MGM Studios. Name where they are located. Note: Looking for full figures (not just heads, etc) and not counting any of the merchandise in the stores!

POOH&PIGLET
10-27-2004, 06:55 AM
How about the 3-D Mickey Mouse during the Muppet Vision movie?

amandadaddy
10-27-2004, 07:39 AM
There is a complete Mickey on top of the spire in the front of the park next to the entrance gates, a topiary Mickey close to the Brown Derby, and I believe there are several other Mickeys in and around the Fantasmic theater.

Good morning all!

MickeyBabe

:wave2: There is a wooden one at the end of the Animation Tour just before you enter the collectable store. ::yes::

And

Does the one the little girl is holding in ToT count?

What about Mickeys in the preshow/museum at One Man's Dream? I don't remember how many are there, but I'll bet there's at least one.

How about the courtyard around "the hat" (I liked it better when it was just the GMR), I think there are several Disney character statues on the fences and such around the landscaping. There's bound to be a Mickey in there somewhere.

Sorry to ask a question and run like that! We have several correct answers, and some that I think are correct but need seconding by someone:

Correct answers:

Mickey on top of the spire in the front of the park (ADaddy)
Topiary Mickey close to the Brown Derby (ADaddy)
Wooden one at the end of the Animation Tour (MBabe)
Mickeys in the preshow/museum at One Man's Dream (ADaddy)
Muppetvision 3D (Pooh&Piglet)....this wasn't on my list, but it's a pretty creative answer and does match the question. Good enough for me!

Need confirmation:

"In the courtyard around the hat." I'm not aware of any, but if there are some someone needs to confirm.

"several other Mickeys in and around the Fantasmic theater"....I am not sure there are. I don't recall seeing any, and will need confirmation on this.

"Does the one the little girl is holding in ToT count?" No, MBabe, though it's a lovely try. :)

There's one more that I can think of. He's in full color, and not hidden!

MickeyBabe
10-27-2004, 11:40 AM
One more Mickey huh?

Hmmmmm I'll have to keep walking MGM.;)

Is it at Mickey's of Hollywood?

:smooth:

Granny
10-27-2004, 11:45 AM
I'm not sure if there is a 3-D figure of Mickey outside Mickey's of Hollywood. I'd need someone to confirm that.

The last one I'm thinking of is in plain view, on the outside of an attraction. :)

Splash Mountain
Peter Pan's Flight

Does the Little Mermaid show have an alligator?

The mascot at Blizzard Beach is Ice Gator, a skiing Alligator.

There’s an Alligator Bayou section of POR.

From right here on the DIS I found that POFQ’s Doubloon Lagoon main pool features a dragon slide and alligator fountains.

Those are all good ones, but I wasn't going outside of the 4 theme parks on this one. The last 3, maybe 4, crocodiles/alligators I can think of are at MK, AK, DS or Epcot.

How about in the Dinosaur waiting area?

In the Share a Dream Parade?

WDWtheplacetobe gets another one! There are crocs/gators in the cue area on Dinosaur.

I've gone through the other remaining answers I think are right and now believe that they are questionable. I know a crocodile appeared in the MSEP on the Fantasia float, but the MSEP isn't running at WDW anymore. I believe that Spectromagic (like MSEP) changes from time to time with different floats appearing at different times, so I'm not certain that a Fantasia float appears or has a crocodile. The last probable crocodile I had was in the waters around Tom Sawyer's Island. I've never been on Tom Sawyer's Island so I don't know first hand, but I thought I'd read on a previous edition of this thread that crocodiles do exist in the waters or on the shores of Tom Sawyer's Island. At any rate, I now believe the remaining crocodiles might not exist and have decided to close the question.

Scaly AAQ cards go out to WDWtheplacetobe and Granny!

as for elevators that don't work right, I'll add the hydrolators at the Living Seas in EPCOT. After all, they only move you two inches! :p

I thought that Tumbleweed was on the GMR, maybe even in the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade. I think the name of the town on BTMRR is Dry Gulch or something like that.....I could be wrong.....wouldn't be the first time!

Granny got the other two with his answers....

And ryley26 had the first elevator that I had imagined---after all
THOSE 'vators are NOT normal !!!! Altho---do the HM elevators count as not being normal---no windows and no doors???

Adaddy--The flooded town on BTMRR is called Tumbleweed--not sure if it's anywhere else? Granny?

Anyway--the "walk" was fun! Anybody else Ready to Go NOW?

Yes, the town on BTMRR is called Tumbleweed. In fact, here's a follow up question:

In Tumbleweed at BTMRR, there is a sign showing the dwindling population. On the sign are also two words which describe the current status of that population. What are those two words?
