Well! At least there will two families on board!

We've got such a long time to go that I'm hoping we discover a lot more people cruising with us before the date actually gets here!

I'm so glad you posted! Good to "meet" you! I'm looking forward to some great chats over the months ahead!

:wave2: I am excited also. I said in the last post that my dd was going, but it is really my dh. Is it really only 120 or so days? We booked this last January so it has been forever it seems. Do you have kids that are going? This is our first Disney Cruise. Am trying to find out as musch as I can prior to going. "Talk" with you soon Kathy

Hey Kathy!

It looks like just you and me chatting for a while, huh? :D

I am going with my dh and my two ds--7 and 4--well, 8 and 5 by the time we actually go.

I've never been on a DC before either, but these boards are a great source of wisdom and tips! I've been searching them for a long time.

We were originally scheduled on the 9/26 4-day, but Hurricane Jeanne came along, and we decided to reschedule. Based on the 9/26 cruise thread, I'm glad we did. It seems more people were unhappy rather than happy with their trip.

Where are you reservations on the ship? We booked a CAT 12 to get the lowest fare possible, but they said we would probably get bumped up to a higher CAT somewhere along the way. I'm excited to see what that actually means.

A friend of mine, who cruises all the time (but not on DCL) said she booked a "basement" room on her last cruise, and she got booked all the way up to a room that overlooked the atrium in her ship! So, I guess it's possible!

Oh well, I'm off to get dinner rolling along....talk to you later!

We are booked in a cat. 6 as that goes with the resort we wanted to stay at. My dgs is "off track" that wk so we only will have one out of school. He is in first grade and my dgd is in 2nd. The reason we are cruising this yr is they get to be in the same "kids" club. My dgd would be fine by herself but our dgs is a lttle skiddish and will be happier with "cousin". Kathy

Dcanoli
10-04-2004, 07:28 AM
Maybe we will cross paths somewhere along the way. My oldest is in 2nd grade too.

I'll be pulling him out of school. We usually do Disney every other year, and we always pull him out for the week. The teachers have been understanding and always give us his homework for the week. LOL...you KNOW he loves that! ;)

I keep trying to talk up the kids' clubs, but I have a feeling my two may stick by the pool the entire time!! Who knows! (Maybe it will be cold, and they'll have to try out the clubs!!)

Maybe we can arrange a meet closer to the sail date, once people start finding this board/thread, and let everyone put a face with the names! That would be fun!

Oh well, off to get ready for another day at school! Cya! :wave2:

just placed the deposit today. Jeanne knocked us off to Cozumel in Sept and my dh was really disappointed. So instead of taking the whole family again we are going alone. In spite of it we had a ball and the dgk all 3 of them didn't leave the clubs too much. So we better not have any more storms. We are hurricaned out here in Fl

arlenesp
10-08-2004, 08:43 PM
Dcanoli I had the same thing with my dgk.Ages 8,7, and 5They all stuck up their noses and said they weren't going. But after the first night and the crossing was bad due to the hurricane, they went for a while and the 5yr old announced the next day he was going to spend the entire day. They all stayed til they closed up. They only paged us a few times to go swimming but one night they all had dinner witht he clubs and she didn't see them all day. Now that's what I call a vacation for all. So don't be thinking all is lost. There is so much pool they can do and they get tired of climbing up the slide. It's a novelty at first but they all get tired of it.

I'm so glad you posted! It's nice to see someone else going on the 1/30/05 trip too!

So...you will have to tell me your story--what cruise did you go on? Was it a four-day or seven-day that got side-tracked by Jeanne?

Thanks for the tidbits and scoop on the clubs. I think my 7-year old will go; he was ready to go and make Flubber in September, so I know he will go--especially when he finds out he'll be 8 when we cruise, and he'll be able to hit the "big" club!! LOL!!! And...I think my four-year old will go to when he sees the big brother going!

My only thing is this--how do you feel without them? I think I'll feel really weird without them around because this vacation is kind of geared around and for them. Does that make sense? I'm afraid I'll feel lost without them....

BUT...it IS going to be January, and it may be a tad chilly for swimming...we'll have to see how that one goes....however, I am really excited...we bought some presents for my older son's birthday today, and when the younger son said, "Hey, what about my birthday?" He got this reply from big brother: "Hey! Your birthday's on the cruise, so I'm getting presents for my birthday!" LOL...

P.S. How does being a CC member work? Do you get a discount once you've sailed once with DCL? Just curious....

arlenesp
10-09-2004, 03:33 PM
the only perk you get is a cc gift when you sail after the first. no discounts. my original was a 3 day and we were told at the port the itinerary may change. the kids were crushed. they wanted so much to go to cc and snorkel with us. But we went to Cozumel and the trip was 4 days. I was happy as we got to go to the brunch at palo since we had sea days and the kids were happy at the clubs.we just replayed the videos i took of the sailing away party and the lunch at parrot cay when we first boarded. They got to ham it up at the table with max, goofy and captain mickey. so they were reliving it. the older one wants to go with us in jan and ordinarily i wouldn't have a problem but it's too much responsibility. Told them maybe we'll do a key west vacation sometime and do the snorkeling then.make sure you take the kids to at least one of the shows. I liked golden mickeys and disney dreams.as for missing them. a threesome can be very intimidating and it gave my daughter the time to have her vacation alone with her boyfriend. her husband passed away 4 yrs ago and it's been hard for them.let me know if you have any additional ?s and i'll try to help. hope we can meet on the boat

Dcanoli
10-09-2004, 06:12 PM
Hey!

Thanks for all the tips....we are definitely going to be doing the shows...that is a requirement, so I won't have to worry about those....

Now, I guess my biggest dilemma is going to be what to pack...themouseforless mailing list has been having some posts about January cruises, so I've been getting some info from there.

Maybe as the time draws closer, we can arrange a meet for all us from the boards...that would be fun!

Goody, another family! Sorry I have been gone to Angel Fire, NM, for my mom's 75th birthday, so I missed out all the intros. My husband and I are early 50's and our dgs( #1son's son) is first grade and our dgd(#1daughter's daughter) is 2nd grade. I am busy learning about skin care for kids with color as my daughter-in-law is black, and I understand there are a few tricks I need to learn (Thank goodness, it is a boy and not a girl, I am not sure I could deal with all the combing and oiling you need to to for a wk with a girl!) I am counting on the packing tips at themouseforless also. I am so out of "Kid stuff" mode. My #4 child is 20, so it has been awhile. hope to talk more soon

You mean I'm, at 38, the baby of our little group so far?

This is really interesting reading everyone's intros....my dh is 43, and I'm 38. I have two ds--7 and 4.

Can't wait to hear who else joins our group in the months to come! We are getting more excited every day (and there a lot of days to go yet)!!!

I have this one "tentatively" reserved - I'll need to make a deposit by Wednesday to secure it...just not sure yet - LOL. We did the 3-day Wonder on 9/30 and just had a GREAT time...I'm debating on whether or not to do a 7 day!

I think we'll probably stick to the four and see you all on this one!

I'll check back again if we do it :)

It would be to celebrate DBF's 50th birthday!!

Well, I just went through the first two pages, and I didn't see any other 1/30 threads....I guess we'll have the ship all to ourselves! :hyper:

That just means more food for you and me and more pool room! LOL! :smooth:

Naw...seriously...it's probably just too early yet....we're just too organized!!!

Oh, BTW...we canceld and rebooked our cruise through www.smallworldvacations.com. They are offering rebates and an on-board credit. Our cruise fare came our $25 less with the on-board credit factored in....

It's nice to "meet" you all too! I hope you took time to read the previous posts because it looks like we might all have kids close in ages!

B&J's Mom---what September cruise were you supposed to be on? We were supposed to be on the 9/25 cruise, but Jeanne hit on the same Sunday....so here we are AGAIN...anticipating our first-ever cruise...I hope it comes to fruition this time! :p

Dcanoli- We were going to go on the September 12 cruise, but Ivan was threatening, and I chickened out and rescheduled. Turns out we technically could have gone (not at the same ports of call), but I didn't want to spend the whole cruise worrying. This is our first ever family cruise and we are really looking forward to it! Take care.

Same here, girl! That would be ALL I needed--my husband already doesn't like the fact that we're spending so much on this vacation, and if the cruise was less than perfect, we'd probably never be going on another one! LOL!!!!

That's why we rescheduled! Didn't need the headaches of a hurricane worrying us! :)

:bounce: I am jumping for joy!! I will be there on 1/30 for my first Disney Cruise. It is sort of a family reunion and a business outing at the same time. My husband's Italian grandparents started a restaurant in 1956 and to celebrate the almost 50th anniversary, a large group of family and employees are going to be cruising. I think there will be almost 30 in the group depending on how many kiddos are coming along. I am an old pro at the World (9 times I think) but new to the cruise line. Looking forward to the trip!! :earsgirl:

:wave2: I knew we wouldn't be the only ones on the boat! Welcome!

Chrissie, did a family thing on RCL in June of '03, and it was great. Alot of family(25, ages 15-73) but also some time away.

So far, I think my "kids" (read grand kids) are the oldest. But then I think I am the oldest (53),"cept DH beat me at 55.

Any hints you all can give about flying with 6 and 7yr olds in this day and age, I am all ears. As I said before, I am out of the loop on this one. Talk with you all soon Kathy

Looks like our cruise is gaining more people! I am also ready to hear any good advice for flying with kids, ages 5 and 2. They have never flown so it's all new for us. I think we are down to 93 days, I'm sure it will go by quickly with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's coming up! And I am pretty sure hurricanes will not be a problem!

I always said that I wouldn't take my kids to the World until they were at least 5 to avoid the stroller issue. But my best friend had to get married last September at the Wedding Pavilion - NO WAY I would miss that! So we took the kids - then 2 1/2 and nearly 4 - on their first trip.

Number one tip - get a portable DVD player!!!! One or two movies and then the plane is landing.

Number two tip - if you are renting a car, consider taking your own car seats (if they need them). You can clip them onto the airline seat and they are not counted as baggage or carry-ons. This way they will be in a familiar seat and you won't have to rent a car seat when you get there. Obviously you'll have to weigh alot of options on this topic - cost, convenience, etc..

I will keep in touch - can't wait...

Thanks for the travel tips. By the way, my husband is from St. Louis, too. Plus, we lived there for a few months after we got married. I loved it there and loved going to Cardinals games! I wish they had given the Red Sox a better series, but it was great they got in. Thanks again!

Great upgrade! We're trying to take my mother along with us, and she lives in Pensacola!

We are currently at a CAT 12 (YUCK), but if we take her, we're up to a CAT 4!!!

We're just awaiting a final okay from her, and then, we're off! :)

We will definitely have to schedule a meeting place somewhere on the boat; it will be great to put names and faces together.

Am babysitting the grandkids tonite. The 6 and 7 yr olds are playing cards and the 2 1/2 yr old is being busy. Really reinforced my decision not to take him on this trip. He is very funny, and cute but .... My husband said "good plan not to take him".

Thanks for the trip tips. I am hoping the loss leader at the Thanksgiving sales is a portable dvd player. If not, maybe the after Christmas sales.

Just showed the 6 yr old (dgs), a picture of the ship and he said"it won't sink. will it? because I haven't gone very far in my swimming lessons"! We talked about the lifevest and the "muster" drill, but I know he can't even image it. I know I couldn't and I was 42 when I took my first cruise. Can't wait to see their faces when they see it all for the first time. Matthew was a little mad that I had been before, But I reminded him one trip was with his dad when he was 17. (It kinda drives me crazy 'cuz I am an anal-retentive planner and like to know everything!!) Yeah, yesterday was the final payment due date for our cruise. I'm going to have a LOVELY Visa bill because we "modified" our reservations.

My husband's mom and stepdad live in FL, and they decided to go with us. We changed our reservation from one CAT 12 room to two CAT 9 rooms w/the FL discount. That way they could go with us for about $700.

Glad to hear you guys are all going...any idea on a meeting place and/or time?

The September cruise, we were originally scheduled to be on, had a meet, I think, in the atrium or one of the clubs right before the sail away party.

However, I think there is too much going on that first afternoon to try and squeeze one more thing in at that time of day (i.e., reservations, kids' clubs, boat drill, etc.).

What do you think? We originally had early seating too, but after adding two more people to our party, we got switched to late seating! :(

Any out there with past cruising experience that can help us out on ideas?

2nd time on the Wonder, and yes it is hectic. We went right to parrot cay for lunch and then went to do the ressies at palo and my dd did the club registrations.
Then the mickey pool, killes some time waiting for the luggage to show up and then at 4 the drill and then the party at 4:30. so if we meet on Sunday it will have to be between 2-4 or after dinner. The promenade lounge comes to mind next to the internet cafe. Any suggestions?

From another Mouse website:

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho A Pirates Life…Aboard Disney Cruise Line

A new Pirates in the Caribbean party is taking over the Disney Magic cruise ship, transforming guests aboard into pirates for the evening and treating them to a scrumptious dinner feast and adventurously themed deck party that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud.

This newly themed evening aboard Disney's seven-night cruise vacations to the eastern and western Caribbean brings together the traditional cruise dinner and deck party with a rowdy buccaneer bash combining invigorating entertainment, themed dining experiences and brand new special effects for an evening that's perfect for every member of the family.

Starting in the dining room, servers dressed as pirates play the part by welcoming guests with customary greetings of ‘ahoy matey’ and ‘argh’ while serving ‘grog’ rather than drinks. Guests delight in learning the pirate lifestyle by donning specially made pirate bandanas and choosing pirate themed dinner selections from a parchment rolled menu.

As the evening transitions from the dining room to high atop decks 9 and 10, a treasure trove of entertainment opens with classic Disney characters dressed in pirate garb, high-energy special effects and interactive audience participation set to music favorites for a new kind of celebration.

The party gets underway with a pirate-style line dance as guests join cruise staff, Goofy and his seafaring friends in learning special dance steps set to a wacky chorus of “Yo, Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me.”

Impetuously the mood of the party changes as Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and their gang of ‘bad’ pirates take over the party with special effects including black lighting and skull and cross bone projections.

Just in time, and before Captain Hook’s able to enlist audience Dads to join his gang of pirates, Captain Mickey appears and saves the day, ridding the ship of the evil buccaneers for a swash-buckling finish.

Currently only aboard the Disney Magic seven-night itineraries, the experience is scheduled to board sister ship Disney Wonder and three- and four-night itineraries in early 2005.

I saw the blurb on the POC, that will be fun for the dgks. My husband will hate it, but if the kids like it, he will do it (I believe it might be a kodak moment) I am interested in the magnetic signs but will work on that after the first(might need som assistance with it) The chain is a great idea. I got the kids backpacks filled with things for our trip for Christmas so I think I will add the chain for them to do at their houses and to start on January 1. Yipee, :cool1: I can't believe after Christmas it will be a month for us (we leave the 26th to do the land portion) Kathy
ps I kinda envy you all with small kids at Christmas, I miss the magic feel of the little kids at this time(even tho my two that are at college still insist on Santa coming, it isn't really the same) Cherish this hectic time, and take lots of movies!!!

I sure hope the weather warms up a tad or at least you guys have a "warm spell" when the end of January rolls around. It's going to be tough to pack for Florida and Nassau's weather at the same time! (We are doing two days in Florida along with the cruise.)

Keep those fingers crossed for the POC party/dinner!

POC night? Sounds like a blast - I'll keep my fingers crossed. We've also been watching other 'nautical' Disney fare lately. My boys LOVE 20,000 Leagues under the Sea (giant squid attack!!) right now. And right behind that is Treasure Island (Pirates!! Dialogue is not to be missed - turn on CC on your TV!) and Swiss Family Robinson (pirate attack at the end w/bouncing rocks). And not to forget Peter Pan!

Door magnet - I read about that and think it's a really cute idea. I'm going to make one since I already have some magnet paper.

Well got to scoot. I'm going to try to hit the stores early this morning for some last minute shopping. I'm probably already too late for the 'early-bird' deals!

Bye!

What a great idea! I think I will try and do that next month--after the rush of Christmas has passed, and the real countdown begins!

So, let's see you said--20,000 Leagues, Treasure Island, and Swiss Family Robinson?

How old are your kids? I'm not sure my 5-year old will sit through Swiss Family....but who knows? You never know until you try!

Keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers going for Pirates night in January,

hope it is gone by the end of January. It is suppose to snow Wednesday and Thursday here in Denver. Hope we don't get alot, as my folks are coming from Albuquerque, and I don't like to think of them driving in the snow. Am working the next 3 days, and with the snow coming in we maybe busy. If you go to www.ask.com, and type in a question like, "What is the weather like in Cap Canveral in February?" or substitute Nassau into that question, it will bring up the averages, etc. etc. etc.

It looks pretty good for both places with the average high in Nasau at 77 degrees in February (if I remember right), and in the 60s in Orlando.

Now...we just have to cross our fingers that they don't have a "cold snap." After our Sept. cruise was canceled due to hurricane number four , I wouldn't be surprised if the "ice storm of the century" hits that weekend!

I've been reading the cruise forum for months, but just joined the boards today and decided to see if anyone was on the January 30th cruise. My family of four DH-38, myself-33, DD-6, and DD-2 are taking our first cruise. I'm addicted to reading all the tips and threads I can. I've got my Passporter book highlighted and notes written everywhere. I can't wait! Hopefully I'll remember to relax :D

I am off to make the last of the cookies. I know my kids will be sad if we don't have that and eggnog and fudge Christmas day. looking out the window at the constant rain and cold for the last few days, I cannot wait to get back on the ship.
Now I need to start my countdown list so we don't forget anything. If anyone has any medical issues, there is a form that we fill out to fax to the ships doctor so they are informed of any illness etc.

Dcanoli
12-26-2004, 05:51 PM
Hey, I don't need to fill out that doctor's form, but I just wanted to post a "Thank You!" for posting that little note.

I've read a lot of stuff, but having never cruised before, I didn't know about such a form. Actually, it's a great idea!

Thanks for sharing it with us! Got any other tips we should know about before we head on board?

hey the counter says 34 days!!!!
A suggestion to all the parents. My dd and I were told emphatically from the kids that there was no way they were going to the clubs. Especially dgd who is 7. Well my daughter took them all to the clubs the first night which by the way was really rough due to the hurricane. And i'm happy to say ,she finally got a child free vacation. And they kept them til 1am. (the club actually puts down mats at night and the kids watch movies on the large wall tv and most of them nod off. Kind of a sleepover.)
Don't try to do everything. It can't be done. Choose what you want to do and be flexible .
My dh and I didn't get to go to Nassau and if we did probably he wouldn't have gotten off the ship.
This time he is bringing his scooter so he can appease me and go into town.
We missed hercules and will see that and can say we both loved the other 2 shows.
I am putting out the good vibes for the pirate show.
But the most important thing is to have fun!!!!!

nanarn
12-28-2004, 11:09 AM
I am not too worried about the dgks going to the clubs. I think they will go some but being the "grandparents" my dh and I are into the "kid " time. different out look when you are the grandparents. Dh and I will probably get the kids off the ship at Nausssau but not stay but just so they can say they were there. Plan on enjoying the ship with alot of the passengers gone.See you all very soon Kathy

And they kept them til 1am. (the club actually puts down mats at night and the kids watch movies on the large wall tv and most of them nod off. Kind of a sleepover.)I was keeping my fingers crossed for this - Did you notice if they let the younger (4 yo) children nap?

We are waitlisted for early dinner seating, but are resigned not to get it. The plan at the moment is to take them for a snack/roomservice for "dinner" around 5-6, then see the early show together, then drop them off at the club. DH and I will then (hopefully) enjoy a quiet dinner alone!! and maybe even enjoy some of the adult entertainment offerings until 11 or so!

Yay! We're almost under 30 days!
Happy new year everyone!

That last post brings up an interesting question. I hope one of you seasoned cruisers can answer it.

I know the dinner and show is supposed to work like this: early show/late dinner & late show/early dinner, but what about those people that don't eat in the dining rotation?

Let's say--you are "assigned" early dinner and late show, but you opt to go to the early show instead and catch dinner in your room after the show....how does Disney ensure that all of us on the dining rotation get in to see the show?

I mean--are there empty seats in these shows, and that brings me to a 2nd question--how important is a "good" seat in these theaters? Do we need to gobble our food and get to the theater to get an up-front seat or are the ones in the middle and back just as good?

arlenesp
12-29-2004, 11:07 PM
there are those that say to get there early but we sat all over on our cruise. For the golden mickeys there is a lot going on on the crossaisle as some of the performers are in the audience. We sat at the very back for Dreams, and didn't have any trouble seeing.Just bring a sweater or jacket as it's a bit chilly in there. They also have a snack stand outside but many bring their own snacks with them. They won't let you bring in food like hot dogs etc. Just regular snacks. The back worked out well for bathroom breaks and getting out ahead of the rush.

Dcanoli
12-30-2004, 09:04 AM
Okay, thanks! That works out well then! I won't be stressing out over dinner trying to get us anywhere or vice versa.

We have late dining but with an 8 and 5 year old, I am hoping we can do the dinner shuffle once on board!

See everyone soon! YIPPEE!!

Dcanoli
12-31-2004, 08:32 PM
I haven't heard anything negative about the pillowcases, so I'm "assuming" they still do them.

We are bringing a mat from a multi-opening picture frame. There used to be another thread about this idea too. You take the white mat from one of those picture frames with a lot of different openings, and you drop it off at cust. svc. Apparently, they get all the characters to sign it, and you pick it up later.

Don't know if they still do it, but I'm going to try it anyway! ;)

:thewave:

What are everyone's travel plans? Flying, driving, family stopovers? Who is traveling the farthest? Any unique or interesting stops along the way? :moped:

We are driving, leaving NO later than 5 am on Sat. It's usually an 8-hr drive for us; we should arrive in Orlando around 2-3 pm. So, really not a bad drive, just v. boring on I-10 stretch.

We're spending Sat night at Pop Century, then on to Port early on Sun. "After-cruise", we are hanging around until Sun, staying at Port Orleans Riverside.

We've never stayed at the Poly but been over to eat a couple times (Kona Cafe & O'hana's). The grounds/pool are really nice and I don't think there is a better view of the front of MK & castle anywhere. Your dgk's will LOVE it!

Since you all asked....here are my trip plans. We are flying down on Friday and hitting the Studios for the afternoon and MK on Saturday. I am lucky enough to have a best friend from college who lives down there and she and her DH are Disney Cast Member lifers! So we'll be staying at there house for a few days and using their free park passes! Yippeee!!! Then we'll be driving over to the pier on Sunday to meet up with the other 30 people in our family group.

Pretty sure that Monday will be the Nassau day, but I can probably do coffee first. Liholi - glad to hear that you have two 4yr old boys!!! My DS turns 4 this Saturday. Maybe they can be kids club playmates! He is right here right now and is jumping up and down asking about "his friends".

Counting the days.....Chrissie

Dcanoli - Yes, that is the Nassau day. That occured to me after I posted, as I was driving to work! Trouble is, there's always something going on! What a problem to have right?? ;) Fun Fun Fun

Anyway, we're staying on board that day - been to Nassau before. I would love to see Atlantis but my girlfriend who's stayed there says that's a whole other vacation too! So we decided to 'save' it for a future vacation.

chrissiereiss - Friends with free passes! How lucky are you!! BTW, I think it's great that you all got 30 family members to agree on a date, etc. That took some doing, I bet. So special! My boys are driving me nuts about the trip. Of course, I'd been talking it up before the holidays. I told them 4 more weeks, they thought 4 "days". Tell DS that Tate and Rhys say "Happy 4th Birthday" and see you soon! Lisa

Well, what a coincidence...we are driving down from Atlanta (Cumming), and it's an 8-hour drive for us too, so my PLAN is to leave around 4 a.m., and get there around noon.

We, too, are staying at Pop Century, but I am contemplating changing it to ASM--looks like better picture ops there.....and more stuff my kids would recognize....(which, brings up another good point--anybody got any input into which hotel is better???) The idea of staying at WDW's newest AS hotel is tempting, but I think the kids would like the ASM stuff better....

ANYWAY...I was planning on letting them swim (if weather permits), since the pools are all heated or else we will be headed to DTD and getting us some GHIRADELLI (our favorite stop)!!! Then, of course, we will hit all the kids' favorites (i.e., Toy Store, TDS, and Lego...) before we take the trip over to the Yacht Club to have dinner at Beaches n Cream. We'll probably check out the Boardwalk that night after supper to see what's happening....

On Sunday, I wanted to do a character breakfast at Chef's Mickey's, but I think I'm going to save some $$ for the boat and catch a light breakfast somewhere else....also, we're planning on letting the kids ride the loop around the monorail on Sunday a.m.....before we drive over to CC.

In other words, we are spending Sat. doing "everything but the parks!" :flower1:

Anybody got any good non-character breakfast ideas for Sunday a.m.?

01-04-2005, 08:03 PM
We are not doing anything at Nassau, so Monday for coffee would be great for me. I'll even buy.... oh wait coffee is free(lol). Really, any time that a.m.is fine by me. I do know that we will get off the ship that day but just to say the kids were there. Plan on getting :3dglasses (hopefully) uncrowded Mickey pool time.

It is 10 degrees here(6pm) and has been snowing all day. No accumulation yet, just darn cold. The change in weather did bring in the labor pts :earseek: tho so tomorrow should be busy. Makes the time go faster when we are busy.

Deb, wouldn't you know that after I did the backpacks for the dgks for Christmas there would be something else I would just have to have! Disney cameras!! May have to change the ones I gave them for these! I also have a suitcase that I keep in the spare bedroom that I have put stuff in. My dd and ddil bought some summer stuff for the kids in August as we weren't sure we'd be able to find what we needed in Jan. (and were we right). Water shoes are not to be found in January in Denver ( now snow boots on the other hand..)

So glad you found us jmw and pattontwins, I know I have been planning this since January of last yr so it is a tad hard to believe we are really going in 14 days and "a wake-up". My dgs's time line is now "is that before or after my trip with Nana and Pop-pop?" He is a little nervous as he has not been away from his parents ('cept over nite once in awhile at my house).

Okay girls--don't know if you guys read through all threads--so I'm going to post a few things here that were on other threads I subscribe to...

First of all--PIRATES Night..guess what girls? Looks like we're supposed to HAVE IT! YES! YIPPEE!! Read this post from someone that is currently on the Wonder:
***********************
Hello, hello again!!

No pirates night for us that is!!!

*They* are saying it starts on the next 4 day cruise!! Lucky you. We had tropical night, it was okay.

Our reservations for Palo were for 8:30 last night & yes, they have brunch but just on Wed. 10:00-12:00!! We have ressies for 11:30.

Movies that I know were Incredibles and around the world in 90 days and a few others, don't have the list with me. Our stateroom is right around the corner from the movie theatre!

Weather toda in Nassua was PERFECT!!! 80 and sunny. We went to Atlantis because a friend we are traveling with had free passes. We didn't do the whole pool thing but wish we did. We just walked around and did the Dig and went to the casino, won $150.00 and left!!! LOL What a place. The lazy river went right through the Dig, the slide looked awesome. I have no idea how much it cost but whatever it was I would pay it to go there again and spend the whole day.

Tonight we had Tritons. It was wonderful. I had the duck, shrimp cocktail and a blue cheese salad and creme brulee. Very nice.

My son had a melt down before dinner, so I ordered him room service and sent him back to the kid's club. That's the only place he wants to be. I really hope he wants to eat with us tomorrow night at AP.

Went to the tropical deck party for a while which was a bit lame.
We saw the match your mate show at Wavebands, which was okay and then went to Cadillac Lounge and almost fell alseep! LOL
Went up to the Cove for some coffee and the beeper went off, oh well. I love the Cove. It's comfy cozy and has great coffee!! What a great addition.
Thinking of booking the 7 night before we leave the ship.
BTW, I was very PO'd at room service this morning. We ordered breakfast for 9:30-10:00 and they showed up a little past 8:00!! Good thing I didn't know it was that early or the waiter would have paid!! I did complain, but really just didn't want it to happen again. We just aren't morning people.
Tonight they sent up an apology note and some desserts. Let's see how they do in the morning again.

Well, we should be moving soon. All aboard is now.
*See* ya tommorrow night after CC!!!
******************
Second--Character Breakfasts--Don't know if any of you know this...but read on....
******************
We were on the Wonder 3 day in May and there indeed was a Character breakfast on the first morning. I'm sure it would be the same for the 4 day. It was with Captain Hook, Chip, and Minnie Mouse in Parrot Cay. Actually really great. Not crowded at all.

I don't recall if it was in the Navigator or not. I will be happy to look at our old one's from May tomorrow and let you know. We knew about it immediately at dinner the first night. Our server Egi told DD4 about it when he was telling us what was on schedule for the next day. It was all DD could talk about that night..."having b'fast with Minnie tomorow." I will tell you that she was NOT a fan of Capt Hook...he was a little scary even for me!

I just can't imagine that we were soooo very lucky as to be the only Wonder cruise in DCL history to have a character b'fast. If that was the case then...luck us!

It isn't a "character breakfast" Its a character appearance. It just happens to occur during breakfast time at Parrot Cay. We had it on the first day on the four day Wonder as well. Check the character listings.

Yep, very uncrowded. Most people haven't figured out the meet and greets yet.
*************
Okay, sorry to make this such a long post, but I wanted you all to know those two things: They are supposed to start the Pirates Night on the next 4-day Wonder, and there is a character breakfast the first morning in Parrot's Cay (though, it's not technically a CB--just a character APPEARANCE)!

What do you all think about those two tantalizing scoops of information???

As for rebooking so soon, Sept and Jan are Florida Resident rates so the price is at the lowest and we got both times upgrades and price cuts when they opened them up. Would love to take the gks again but that would mean 2 cabins again and it's too expensive to take everyone. We may look into rebooking another onboard just to get the 200 credit. Need to get more info about that.
Well it's off to work today which isn't too bad as this is my Friday.
Catch everyone later...............

Hi all, We're on the Wonder too!

I'm a bit concerned whether it will be warm enough to go swimming at CC? I've been reading the boards and initially saw a post about how high the waves were, but the most recent posts said the water was calm and in the 80's? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Of course the weather here is suppose to be in the 60's one day and then 2 days later not even reach 30!

Do you think we'll need a jacket on deck?

I'm really thrilled to hear about Pirates Night starting up. Please post if hear any more.

I haven't started packing yet but I hope to start sooner rather than later. Usually I'm up real late packing the night before we leave. I really need to get a bag and start putting things in it.

Are the Disney camera's at CC by Kodak or Fuji or anything? I know my kids would love them. Any other ideas for them?

Hopefully they will arrive soon.

Hey ladies! Lots of new posts. Welcome Thunderrd & jmw!!
No docs yet - I came home at lunch just to check! But any day now! :jumping3:

The luggage has been hauled out and I've started the piles o' stuff on the floor in the corner! No clothes yet, but when I happen to think of something, I need to plunk it over right then or I'll forget!! I want this to be a smooth getaway on Sat morning. The boy's treat bags are pretty full, but I might have to get them a Mickey camera, if I have time to run by CC.

Dcanoli - I'm so excited about PN!! pirate: It sure sounds like a 'done' deal for us! Thanks too for the tip about the Character 'appearance' at b'fast. Maybe they keep it kinda 'un'promoted to manage the crowd. I'm definitely going to check out the times for the "appearances" and see if one coincides with a morning meal.

Thunderrd - did you mean the water temp was 80? That would be awesome! I keep telling my boys that we 'might' go swimming. Of course I'm thinking there's no way I'm getting in, but if they want to.... Remember how it was when you're a kid? My folks would never let us go swimming at the lake until June. Too cold, my Mom said. We would 'accidentally' push one another in, starting in March - the water was freeeezzzing! Of course, we saw people from Canada swimming in Destin last Jan. It was balmy that day, but not warm enough for a swim! But they were loving it!

Don't know the answer to your camera question. Try heading over to Circuit City's website, and see if it says anything...

A good idea for the kids if you haven't gotten them already is BUBBLES for the sail away party and maybe even packing an extra bottle or two for a child that may not have any. We bought bubble guns when W/M had them back in the summer, but you may be able to find them on-line now.

Can't think of any other tips for the kids except the usual autograph book, thick pen for the characters to write with....etc. etc. etc. However, if this is your 2nd cruise on DCL, you should be giving US tips! LOL!

liholi-I read on the main cruise board from a person on the Wonder now that the air temp was in the 80's. When I was a kid I would go swimming every day in the summer regardless the temp or weather. My kids love swimming and I just want them to be able to swim if they want but I'm afraid if the water is too cold they won't want to.

dcanoli-I'll have to put bubbles on my list, we still have some from the summer and you can buy them year round. I don't remember anyone having bubbles on our last cruise.

I went to CC yesterday for another item and I did check out the disney cameras. I didn't notice what brand they were but they had a Mickey, princess, and a pooh one if I remember right. I decided not to get one but I may end up going back for 2.

My pirate: pirate:'s said they wanted to use their same autograph books from the last time. I may see about getting one large enough that I can include a picture of them on the page too. I've read about others doing this and I like the idea.

This will be our 2nd DCL cruise so yes you can ask me anything and I'll try to help. When we returned from our 1st cruise I read alot on the boards and felt like I missed so many things the 1st time. It's impossible to do it all and see it all. I carried my navigator with me and a highliter and marked those things we didn't want to miss.

We really enjoyed all the shows they had on board. The Hercules, Dreams, Golden Mickeys and a comedian. I thought the comedian was really funny. All the kids were laughing even if they hadn't a clue why because of the way he delivered the jokes. We went to the Golden Mickey show twice!

We are doing 3night land, 4 night sea. Staying in the Polynesian from the 27th-30th. This is our first Disney cruise. It will be me (33 turning 34 while in Disney on 1/29), My hubby (34), my Daughter (5), and my son (3 1/2). We are so excited. Called my travel agent yesterday, said docs should be in anyday. Would love to chat with anyone else going on those dates!

nala1128-We're near Washington DC but the weather pattern has been the same for most of the east coast. So today was the warmest of the week and tonight we are to get heavy rain and wind and then the cold comes.

We didn't order room service on our last cruise so my DS's are looking forward to donuts delivered to our room for breakfast. Also we ate breakfast and lunch at either topsiders or from Pluto's, this time I'd like to eat in a restaurant at least once for lunch.

Regarding the character breakfast, I heard that some characters came out during breakfast in the restaurant. It wasn't really a character breakfast like you get at the parks.

In the Navigator for each day it lists what characters will be where. Some are there for pictures and autographs and some just for autographs. There is also a large board where they post the places and times of the characters for each day. Don't get discouraged if you see a line. There was always a line as people lined up early, however it's very organized and moves quickly.

The photographers from Shutters are sometimes w/the characters also taking pictures but you can take your own picture too and then see how theirs turned out. Also before dinner they set up different backgrounds and take your picture. Some of the pictures you see on the boards are from this. We bought a family picture that had the ship at night in the background and the round life preserver that says Wonder in front. I think alot of the "formal" pictures are 8x10's and they cost $19.99/ea. The other pic's from them are 6x8's and you can get several packages or purchase them individually.

I've got to go, I'll be back tomorrow.

Oh yeah I almost forgot...our documents came!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

My dgks stood on line to get the pix with Stitch which is their fav, and then Stitch came into the clubs and they got better pix there. Go figure. The line for the princesses was enormous and we missed the last night gathering in the atrium where all the characters and cast from the shows come out to say goodbye. That we'll try to see.
The kids liked the Dreams show. They didn't see Golden Mickeys altho they would've loved seeing it . They were busy in the clubs.
We also will be ordering the cheese platter and maybe mickey bars at night. Never ordered on the first cruise. And will be trying the new coffee cove.
All meals were had in the dining rooms. We liked the pc brunch.(I like the seafood).Tritons works off a menu so it's a bit limited.
The kids went to beach blanket buffet for meals with the clubs and I think they enjoyed that more for lunch.
We will be trying to do the galley tour. The family did that and enjoyed it. Also the bridge tour providing dh is up to it.
We're still debating whether to go early to Atlantis for a bit of the casino and then get back in time for lunch
We will try to spend more time on the chairs on Deck 4. Very comfy.
I can't come up with anything we did we were disappointed in other than not getting to our original destinations. But we both loved being out at sea.
It was the perfect vacation and all around healing for the family after the medical nightmares we had in the past few years.
I just wish we could've taken the dgks with us again. They still talk about going again.

Thunderrd
01-14-2005, 09:15 AM
My :earsboy: :earsboy: didn't spend much time in the clubs and say they don't want to again. That is fine with us but they may have to go there if we end up deciding to go to Palo's.

We did the bridge tour and I thought it was very interesting. It was a fairly small group and some of the questions were too technical for the CM doing the tour that she got one of the captains to come out. If we have time I would do this again.

We did not go on a galley tour so I would like to do that if we can this time.

We plan to definitely order :mickeybar as I didn't even know you could last time.

We went to the atrium the last night where the characters come out and we got lots of their autographs and pictures. There were so many that some of them didn't have a line, of course the more popular ones always had a line.

Chairs on deck 4? What chairs? I would like to at least check these out if I can. We didn't go there the first cruise.

We rented bikes on CC and my kids loved it. I only wish there was another path to ride more. It was very hot and thank goodness they had water at two places. We went to the family beach on CC and ate lunch at Cookies. I was happy with that, however the adult beach would have been peaceful and very relaxing.

We also would like to buy postcards and mail them from CC. It takes a couple weeks to get them but the kids want to send them to their classes at school.

I was the only one who did any snorkeling and I went out to find Mickey underwater, took some pictures w/the underwater camera and then came back. I did see some fish out there but not many. Since noone is interested in snorkeling I doubt I'll do this again and the water will be cooler than it was in July.

There was a wedding going on at the one pavilion so we didn't walk over there but I'd like to get some pics of CC from there this time.

For breakfast we ate the buffet at topsiders and our first time thru I thought that all the food was there where you get your tray. After you go thru there and get your drink at the end, there is another table with lots of pastries, donuts and such and then another table with fruit and cereals and then another table w/chocolate mickey waffles and plain ones. Needless to say you won't go hungry.

I started putting a few things together since our documents came. I rec'd the passporters guide to DCL as a gift so it is now w/our documents and I'll read it on the trip down.

I hope we have great weather. :sunny:

I will send you photo of deck 4 lounge chairs( when i figure out how)
We enjoyed the breakfast menu and will prob do it again. I need to not have so many choices in the am.
I may try the snorkeling if it's not too cold. My dgks and I were to do the biking but will probably pass on that too.
It's been raining all morning here in Orlando and the temp is down.Still checking the mail for the docs.

You don't have to post any pics. I checked out pics from the other sites and saw the chairs. They look quite comfy. I afraid that my kids will not want to spend time around there though so that will limit my time there. Although if they go to the kids club I will have time to explore the ship more.

Looks like we are doing the same land/sea as Nanarn. We are actually flying into Orland on the 26th, and staying at the hotel in the airport. We did this for 2 reasons. The first is in the event of bad weather flying out, we have a little room for adjustment, and the second reason is that my DD5, and DS 3&1/2 would be miserable at Disney on the first day if we had to travel that day too. We have been to Disney many times, as my in-laws live in Celebration. FL (Home of DCL offices!), and other family is in Orlando. I am not worried about my daughter in the kids club, but my son is much more attached and clingy. I am hoping he will be OK in the kids club, so me and my DH can do some couple stuff. My DH and I have been on a few cruised, wih the last one being our honeymoon! We are so looking forward to this trip! Glad I found this board, I am already addicted to reading these posts!!!!

Our documents came by UPS (the label said 3 day), so look for that brown truck!

Okay, folks, today is the day when the "next four-day cruise" sets sail.

Remember, that is when the Pirates night is supposed to start...hopefully, someone from that sailing will be on these boards letting us know if Pirates night has really started!!!

If anyone finds out, please let the group know, and we've got to set a meeting time, etc....in the next two weeks...make we can just all plan to meet at the sail away party! (We could always pick a color from the Home Depot Disney paint colors and cut out the Mickey head and attach it to our clothes to recognize each other.)

Can anyone help me figure out what kind of clothes to pack without packing my whole closet and my husband's and my kids'?
Am I packing tank tops and shorts? Longsleeves and jeans? Sweaters? Maybe it's just because it's 16 degrees here right now, I have a hard time believing anywhere could be shorts and t-shirt weather! Has anyone been on to the Bahamas in January before?

I just talked to someone that was on an early January cruise, and she told me they were swimming in CC, it was that warm (the water, that is)....

If you go to www.accuweather.com, you can see the 15-day forecast for Nassau and Orlando. I doubt you will need long-sleeves and pants, other than for dinner and the shows.

I am packing capris for the dinners, and a black cardigan (because it will go with everything) to wear at night. I may take a light sweater for the deck parties, which don't start until 10 p.m. It could get really chilly at night...accuweather shows the low temps in the 40s.

Other than that, I'm only packing shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and bathing suits (basically)!

Hey, no problem!

I was reading everything and checking the weather sites too, and people were making it sound as if we might not be able to swim.

I was really glad to hear that this family went swimming at CC at the beginning of January! (They told me they have been to CC three times, and they still haven't been able to find the "hidden mickey" under the ocean!)

Spoke to ta today and she said DCL has a problem getting the docs out in timely manner to everyone.Printing problem. She will see if she gets them Tues. and if not will have them sent directly to me.Been having trouble with the mail in the last 2 days and was getting concerned.I'm not worried cuz I know they can get them to me overnight if it gets that close.
I read the water at cc is a bit chilly at first until you get used to it.
Clothing? We always bring too much. We have the lightweight and bit heavier. I get chilly at night so will have my jacket and nylon parka with me.The theatre is a bit chilly as well for all those taking in the show.
Spoke to someone today who just got off the 3 day and she said it was a bit rocky coming back into port rather than the way out.We had the opposite.Hope for smooth sailing

We are doing the land/sea combo. Traveling with my DH, DD 5, and DS 3&1/2. I am putting together a little care package for each of them. I have 2 disposable cameras each (one for WDW and one for cruise). I am going to get a litle journal for each of them, and probably an autograph book with pencils/crayons. I plan to give it to them at the airport at the start of our trip. Any suggestions for anything else that I may want to include to make it special for them. They have been to WDW before, but this is their first cruise!!

Dcanoli, seems you had a few ?.The parking is adequate. As a matter of fact I believe it is enough for 2 cruises. When we left on a Thurs in Sept, the 7 day cruise was already out and the parking lot was quite empty.
As for the carryon. We checked 2 suitcases, a duffle and a suiter. Took the smaller wheelie and a small shoulder bag from the set to carry all the drugs and papers etc. Most people left the strollers, luggage outside parrot cay during the lunch and since the dgks were in the Mickey pool, We kept the bags with us while watching them til the room was ready. I think ours was ready around 2ish.
As you can tell, my dh packed way tooo much and we will be considerably downsizing this time. Still bringing the same carryon plus his scooter as they said it's safer to ride it on. So the scooter will be parked on the 3rd deck til the room is ready. This will be an experience.

b&j's_mom-Ditto here. I always pack too much.

As far as a sweater or jacket etc. I packed a sweater for our first cruise and I wore it at dinner and in the theatre and this was in July. If you are the type of person who gets cold easy, I would bring something. Plus we're going to have coats and jackets with us anyways since it'll be cold when we leave for the cruise.

I remember when I was a kid and we went to Puerto Rico in December. I was running around in shorts etc that morning and that evening when we got off the plane at home it was snowing. :earseek:

I'm starting to feel like I have a gazillion things to do and not enough time. :worried:

I'm starting to feel like I have a gazillion things to do and not enough time. :worried:

I know just what you mean! I scheduled the newspaper/mail hold last week and made a little more progress yesterday by finishing the boys pillowcases. I've already warned DH ;) that next week's schedule, starting Tues, is very tight - he can't wait until the last minute (i.e., after work on Friday night!) to lay out his clothes, fuel up, check oil & tires, get travel cash, etc. We're gone for 8 days, so cruise packing is only half the task!

nala1128 - You were looking for some ideas for children - I found some 'glow' necklaces (not sure if that's the right thing to call them) at the Dollar Store. After dark, the WDW vendors are always selling light up gadgets at a PREMIUM that attract children like mad!

Arlenesp - you're the best 'spokeswoman' for the weather down there and what clothes to bring. I take a cotton sweater or denim jacket, even in the middle of summer. The air conditioning is sooo cool in some restaurants. And if you get a little sunburn, brrr.. I guess it depends on whether you're 'cold-natured' or not - I AM! Speaking of sunburn, don't forget the sunscreen. FLA sun can be intense, even if it's not summertime.

We've been to WDW twice in Jan/Feb. Early mornings and after sundown, it got a little chilly for me and the kids. We could see our breath while waiting for the bus at WL on EE morning one yr! Most days I wore jeans/khakis and long-sleve shirt w/ jacket, same for kids. DH wore shorts, T-shirt or polo w/ sweatshirt. We had strollers then, so we could tie the jackets to the stroller mid-day. I guess we'll just plan on locker rental this time.

All said, it's probably a week too early to be accurate on the extended forecast, but so far the weather is shaping up nicely:

Hey girl!

Yes, I'm talking about the Mickey on the snorkeling trail! From what everyone says, it seems it would be easy to find, but apparently not! ;) We'll see--if we even get to swim! BRRR!!

We'll have a tight week too, just because we've got things to do for/with the boys that week!

Oh well, it will all be worth it in the end when that big boat comes into view!

Did you guys read the thread about Pirates Night?

It is definitely the same as the Magic, but there aren't any fireworks. Capt. Tom said they don't have the equipment yet; it's coming in February!

Darn it! We were SO CLOSE! ;)

Hey there! I have been majorly MIA, but now I'm back and I'm ready to go cruisin'! Myself, dh, dd (age 5) and ds (age 3) will be checking into the Poly on January 25 (only 6 more sleeps!) Kathy and Robin, maybe we will meet you guys there. You will be able to identify us as the crazy Canadians with pasty white skin who think that 50 degrees is balmy weather and perfectly fine for swimming! Seriously, dh is 6'3", 200 lbs, brown hair, blue eyes, and I am 5'6", asian, with long hair. If you see a family of four which meets that description, do come and say hi!

Thanks everyone for the tips. I especially like the goodie bag idea. I think I will put some bags together for the plane ride. We fly to Toronto, then change planes for Orlando, so it will be a long day. A goodie bag will be perfect to keep the kids occupied.

So are we any farther on the "get together" plans? I like the idea of trying to find each other at the sailing off party.

Lindy.

we're dancing!!!!!!Dana got the docs to us today..........
The mickey at cc from what i heard is all the way out. Read reports most were tired from the long swim?
Weather in the am was high 30's but when I ran out to do some errands at 2:30 I actually had the ac on a bit.Now it's quite chilly.
If the fireworks aren't til Feb, our pirate night technically is Feb isn't it?
Too much to do and so little time.....

Hey Lindy! I will keep my eyes open for you guys! Our kids are the same age too. My dd is 5 (going on 25 of course!), and my ds is 3. I called DCL and found out that the transfer from Poly to the ship is at 11 or 11:30 AM, so I just mde a priority seating at Ohana for breakfast that morning @ 8:40 AM. Since it has been only in the 20's here all week, I think that 50 will be great. If you see a 5'2", dark haired green eyed chick with an Ariel tattoo on her right calf, you will know that is me!!!!

As far as the bag I am putting together for my kids, I am on the lookout for cute new sunglasses to put in. I got them each disposable cameras, and they are each getting a little video now system, so they have stuff to do while we are waiting at the airport, parades, and anything else that usually sparks too much boredom. Since my dd will be missing Kindergarten, I am giving her a journal to write in everyday. It will help her practice here writing, and will be a fun keepsake. I will give my son one too, he will like to scribble in it and he always tries to copy my daughter anyway!!!

I spoke to my TA yesterday, my docs should be here today so I will be doing a happy dance. Also, for anyone else who is staying in the world for a few days or who goes frequently. I just got the Disney Dining experience card.(no use on the cruise, but great for WDW) It says on their website and when you call that it is only for Fla residents, and AP holders, but I was able to get it. It is $50.00 for AP holders and $75.00 for non AP holders. It gets you 20% off at many restaurants including all of the carachter dining spots. I did the math, and on this trip it will at least pay for itself, anything after that is a savings. We have family in the area there so we already know that we are making at least one more tirp to WDW this year. Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is interested. If you re leaving in the near future, they will send you an email that you use just like the card. The card arrives in 4-6 weeks! Time to go get the kids off to school. Although I am fairly new to the board, I would be up for a meet too!!

Hi,
Well, the real countdown has begun, and the bags are getting packed.
We're all excited!!!
Does anyone have suggestions about seasickness? This is our first cruise, so I don't know what to expect. Friends have told me that with the very large ships it won't be a problem. Any advice???
Thanks!

Oh My, I step away from the computer and you all go banana's!!! It took me 10 minutes to catch up. Worked 3-12hr shifts, and all I can do is work and sleep. Done with those for awhile, only 8hr shifts left til we leave.

Robin and Lindy, my little"family"will be easy to spot. Dh is 55 and 6ft and I am 53 and 4-11. Our dgs (6 1/2) is black and the same size as our dgd who is almost 8. On boarding day, they will be wearing obnoxious tie dye shirts with aliens on them (I have 2 sisters that live in Roswell, New Mexico). So WHEN you see us, :cool1: stop and say "hey". I am thinking about taking advantage of going to ALK that a.m. and catching the DCL bus from there. We don't have any plans for ressies or any thing, just get the kids signed up for the club, so no rush to get to the ship. and with only 3 days in the World that might just work for us.

Deb I am so excited for you. At least a partial Pirates nite, and may be Arlene is right it is really Feb and we could get some pixie dust. and thanks for the tip on the All stars. Got that rate!

Now that the docs are out, where are everyone"s rooms and which seating is every one at? We are early(main) and 6542.

Gotta go and will check back later today!! 5 days and a sleep for us. :teleport: Kathy

Most take the otc remedies. Bonine and draminine. Some the patch.I've read about the pressure bands but have a bit of carpal tunnel so the thought of something pressing on that area doesn't sit well.
My dh and I cannot take these otc remedies, so I take ginger tabs starting the day before. They recommend ginger snaps for the kids also. It is a natural remedy and when the ship was rocking out of the port my dd and dgs were a tad green, but I think the pills helped. I took the ginger and did what is also recommended by sitting on the verandah for a while, just chilling a bit, and felt ok. My ds took the ginger before he went to ioa as he couldn't ride the coasters without it. Could be all in the mind but most is.
I actually enjoyed the rocking in a strange way. It gave me a slight chair massage at dinner which I have to say was quite enjoyable.
Did sleep like a baby. The cabins have a strange creaking noise when the waves are rough.
As for the night lights etc. We just kept the tv on all night so whichever gk was bunking with us could find their way to the bathroom. You can also leave a light on in the bathroom. Did find the duct tape handy for making sure the closet doors didn't open during the rocking. So take a bit with you other wise you will be stuffing a washcloth between the doors.
The bathtub has a clothesline on the wall. We used suction hooks on the verandah.
Feel free to ask any additional ? Waiting for my ds to come over to hook up my vonage internet phone. Also watching the innaug. Can't remember being home for this since jfk.

Just got our documents from our TA today! Yippee! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

They came with a free beach blanket and beach ball! The kids are so excited!

Speaking of the cruise, I have ANOTHER question--I know I've worn you all out these past few months--my four-year old DS and I were looking through the book that is in the pack with your documents, and I noticed where it showed a picture of the couple snorkeling, he said to me, "I can't do that!"

How do you guys get your kids prepared for snorkeling? I think I should open up the kits I got at W/M (mask and tube) and let them practice in the tub--it will be much easier to pack them that way anyway...are any of you bringing snorkeling gear for yourselves? I've read a lot of links on this website and tips to hit the W/Ms near WDW for cheap "kits" rather than rent them at CC. What are you all doing? Also, do we have to make bike rentals at GS once on board or is that something we can do now or do we just wait?

I'll check my docs and let you know where we are and dining rotation! Thanks guys!

Hey girls,

Just checked my docs. One room is 2082 and 2084 (CAT 9); HOWEVER, one room is Main seating and the other is SECOND!

How rude! ;)

I've e-mailed my travel agent, and I'll see what they come up with. Has this happened to you seasoned cruisers before? Do you think my TA will be able to fix it or will I have to hit GS next Sunday?

As far as snorkeling goes, on our first cruise we didn't rent the gear because I didn't think our kids would use it. Then when we got out on the beach they wanted to, so some of the others we traveled w/let them use theirs but they didn't like the mouth piece or mask. They enjoyed the floats alot better.
:jumping3:

For this cruise, I did buy some snorkling gear at walmart but I doubt they'll use these either, maybe the fins if they go swimming. They might use them more in the pool than ocean.

Mickey mouse at CC is way out in the snorkeling only area and it is a pretty good distance from shore. You definitely want to have fins if you're going out that far. I took some pics w/the underwater camera and some pics of the ship and the shore from out here too as best as I could considering you're treading water.

Dcanoli: I think that it would be a good idea to let your kids practice using the snorkeling gear in the bathtub or pool. We rented bikes at the shore excursion desk on board, but we didn't do this til the second day. They have lots of bikes on the island and I only saw a few people using them at one time. The bike trail to ride is paved for part of it and then you turn right at the adult beach and go down more of a dirt road for quite some distance before reaching the end (the ocean). They have 2 water stations along this road w/cups and cold water to get a drink. They also have bike helmets for everyone and we used those thank goodness. My youngest took a fall on the dirt road, nothing bad just a few scrapes that we rinsed off w/clean water at the water stop.

I read in the passporter or somewhere that the dining rotation goes by the age of your children with the youngest starting at AP, then the next ages at PC, then the teenagers and older Triton's. I like that Disney rotates your meals so that you get to eat in each one once. :cool1:

We got about 2 inches of snow yesterday and it created havoc on the roads. The kids are not in school today due to the inauguration. We are suppose to get more snow this weekend and then it's to remain cold so it seems like even if FLA is cold it'll be warm to us. Today is around 34 and it already feels warm compared to the teens and twenties we had the past week.

I got some of the light up things for nights on the cruise to put in my kids' goodie bags.

Also in case someone hasn't read about it they have a cart like they do at the parks that has lots of toys and things for sale that they bring out during the deck parties and I think it was also out most of the day at sea. Of course it's positioned so it's hard to miss and every child wants something from it.

So far I only have one bag that I threw things into that I wanted to make we brought. I need to get more things packed soon so I won't be stressed at the last minute.

Thunderrd,

Thanks for the heads-up! I may not make it to the Hidden Mickey on CC, who knows! (I may try and pick up some fins for myself when we get into FL....we'll see!)

Our TA e-mailed and said Disney is working on getting both our dinner tables together, so that's good; I'm anxious to see if they stick to the AAPT for my young kids.....

Thanks again!

Waaaaa! We haven't got our documents yet. Our TA at Small World Vacations says not to worry, but yikes, we are leaving on Tuesday! Does anyone know what happens if we don't have our papers?

On launch day, we are planning to go to the terminal early. I want to maximize our time on the big boat. We have a shuttle coming for us at 10 am, so we should be there around noon. I totally want to book an open air cabana massage - hopefully I will get a reservation!

Can I get your opinion on this: I read one check list which suggested bringing walkie talkies on the ship. What do you guys think? Would they really work? It sure would be handy if they do!

I heard that the walkie talkies for alot of people didn't work out too well due to the fact alot were on the same frequency and you had many conversations going at the same time.
Do try to bring your own light up necklaces and such for the deck parties as they stuff they sell is junky and very $.They have those whirlie toys also with the lights. I think you can pick those up locally and save some money.

Arlene - you're right about the 2-way radios. we took ours to the MK and lots garbled discussion because so many people were trying to use them. my DH and I could never 'find' each other by using them when we split up. we did use them sucessfully at DTD though (during the day). if you already have them, I guess it might be worth taking them, but i wouldn't go out and purchase just for use at WDW/DCL.

thanks for reminding me! I need to dig out DS's Stitch light whirlies and install new batteries. I don't necessarily want to be talked into buying new ones!

We brought 2 way radio's last time but I don't remember using them on the ship. From what I heard they work better on the higher floors than some of the lower ones.

We were able to put all our dinner tables together for all our meals. They were all next to each other and we asked if we could push them together and it was not a problem at all. The next dinner when we showed up at a different restaurant all the tables were ready for us since your waiters follow you too. :D

Yesterday I told my 2 :earsboy: :earsboy: to get a bag and start putting things in it that they wanted to bring with them. My youngest started packing his clothes, he put all his socks and underwear in his bag, lol. I asked if he left any to wear for the week before we leave and he said no. So I told him I would pack his clothes closer to when we leave.

I need some kind of bag to put all their goodies in though.

I had the same problem with the walkie talkie's but I went out and bought new ones by Motorola called 'Talkabout'. What is different about these is that besides the normal 1-22 channels it also has 99 Interference Eliminator codes (61 which are digital) which means that when every one in your party picks the same codes (1-22 and 1-99) and you enter it into a special section in the menu on the walkie talkie it is the only signal you will receive. We have already used them at a few amusement parks and they worked great. Other people who had just regular walkie talkies without this feature could hear us talking to each other and they told us that they tried to break in but we never received there signal because they did not have this feature on theirs so our walkie talkie did not recognize the signal. We only heard each other. We can also use an ear piece with a microphone or put it on vibrate.
I have never used it on a ship but I don't see why it wouldn't work there.
6 days to go!!!!!!!

tonight we are going to take out all the clothes and see if they still fit and all. Just have another week to get everything together. Thurs Dr appt. in am. (Really do not want to go as I think I'm still in trouble with him about my sugar.)
Friday afternoon DH has his mri. Kinda kills the day and Sat we have to get the dog over to the kennel as they don't receive on Sundays. He goes to a country club. Don't laugh. When we left him at the vets overnight one time he was a wreck. However he was fine at the club inspite of the fact they had no power for the last 2 days due to the hurricane, h
He became real close with the staff and they still remember him. I don't know if it's good or bad but he has his own run and they take him to the playground 1x a day. So we don't feel so guilty.
Also I bought these luggage tie locks. They are like cable ties but look like little locks to see it anyone went thru the luggage at the port. Just another security thing with us. We don't transport anything of value in the luggage. It all goes on board with us.

The local station here has a morning show called the Daily Buzz. I think it goes out in most areas. Well the weather man Mitch is presently on the Wonder and they showed him this am having a facial up on deck while they were docked in Nassau. I'm sure they will do additional footage on Monday am since he will be back by then. It may be cute if you can catch it.
Well off the Wal-Mart.

last time we tried the cable ties and they actually were too wide to get thru some of the zipper pulls. These I found in Walgreens. They had an endcap with travel items such as luggage tags etc. I just recently hooked up my phones to the internet and needed a lock for the phone box outside and these will do both. They look like a master lock in plastic and american tourister also has a version. If I could figure out how to get a pix on the screen I would.

Found this at magellan's on the web.

PrivaSeals (20 pack)

With Priva-Seal, you'll know if your zippered bag has been opened. Once you snap a tiny PrivaSeal on your zippered luggage, no one will be able to open and pilfer its contents without breaking the seal. (Twist off or cut to remove.) A clever way to discourage luggage tampering while still allowing airport security easy access. Individually numbered and packaged twenty to a zip-top pouch. A Magellan's exclusive! (1 oz) Made in USA.

They also have other ones available.

I think we'll just use the ones we already have.

this is the one I bought.I needed this for my outside telephone box. The skinny cable ties work providing they can get thru the zipper pulls.
Don't forget to bring something with you to cut the ties.Funny but sad story. I brought in my carryon a manicure set and my makeup bag which has a small snip. That went thru customs ok.Used the toenail clipper to cut the ties. Later that night received a note from gs stating the leatherman and knives? we had in our luggage were at pc security and we were to pick them up. Well none of it was ours. Found the owner of the knives as she was a diser 5 cabins down. Still don't know whos leatherman we have. Was thinking of bring it back but that might be more trouble than it's worth.
Moral of the story, you need to have something to cut the ties with but don't try to carry on a knife or multitool as they will confiscate it . A sturdy toenail clipper or manicure scissor should do.

Saw a thread earlier this am about one of the cruise ships (not dcl) docked and has many cases of norwalk virus. Just remember to have the kids and family wash their hands and bring along those antisceptic wipes. As my grandmother always said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
The ship has little packets of the wipes everywhere and you can ask for them. There are cards in the bathrooms reminding how important hand washing is.

Thanks for the pixie dust Julie! You hit the nail on the head about being coughed on!

We all had our vitamins and a 'dose' of OJ this morning. Call me goofy, but I even bought the A/B milk this week with the idea that somehow it would fend off any stomach bugs lurking out there. Does anyone know if there's anything to that?

Arlene, your grandmother was right! But I'm a handwashing, sanitizing gel nut! But I guess every once in a while a germ sneaks in.

Target did not have any privacy seals - the hook was empty where they were supposed to be. So I bought the neon green (TSA) brass locks instead.

Whenever my kids get runny noses and stuff or I feel like I am getting the sniffles, I take Airborne. You can get it in Walmart, it is with the cold remedies. I also take it before I get on an airplane to travel. It is supposed to help your immune system!

Getting all packed up... nothing else to do since we are in the midst of a big blizzard. It is supposed to leave 18-24" by the time it ends. We were supposed to go see Disney on Ice Mickey and Minnies Magical journey @ 11AM as a prelude to our vacation, but it looks like it will be canceled

When we moved out to LI in 76 a year or so later they had the big blizzard which shut down the NY area for 3 days. The kids loved the drifts but it was really difficult. One of the neighbors had a snowmobile and ran food runs to the local market. We took the beetle which is a great car for the snow and got around a bit.Wish you a speedy thaw.

We all need to throw some pixie dust at our cruise. I'm reading about the missed docking at cc on the last 7day magic and the bad weather.I missed both Nassau and CC on my first due to Hurricane Jeanne and would like to finally get to the island.
To all of you up north just make sure you stay warm and safe. Spoke to a lot of snowed in people today in NY,Mass,NJ and CT.Seems noone is going anywhere tomorrow. I'm sure the airports will be open later in the week so y"all can get down here.
Bought my hand sanitizers today altho DCL supplies plenty of wipes I'm not taking any chances. Sprayed my work areawhen I got in today. Even tho I hide my headset when I'm gone so noone can use it you can't be too safe.

No kidding! I'm starting to get those 'pre-vacation' jitters. I guess that's how it is for us 'obsessive planners'! Why else would I be up this early in the morning?

I just finished reading the 1/15 Magic thread too (if you guys haven't, DON'T). There seem to be a lot of folks upset about their week.

Have a great Monday! :cheer2:

I just finished reading the 1/15 Magic thread too (if you guys haven't, DON'T).

Well you know when you say not to do something it just makes you want to do it even more. I haven't read it...yet.

:wizard: :teleport: :wizard:

Actually maybe it's a good thing that they didn't get to CC. I read a while back about all the missed dockings and it really is kinda rare so now that there's already been one this month, no need for any more.

As far as snow, we got some and unless the car gets washed we'll be easy to spot in the parking lot. Our car is splattered white from all the salt on the road.

I've got the hand sanitizers too! Packing extra and may just bring a can of lysol too.

Hoping we have all :sunny: days and smooth :boat:.

Sending out pixie dust and :sunny: and :goodvibes: to all.

I can't read the board from the wonder cuise. Too stressed out. Saturday during the blizzard, my washing machine broke down right in the middle of doing my kids clothes. Now I have suitcases with not much in them!!! Schools were closed today due to the weather, so I am about to venture out with my 2 kids to the appliance store. This will be tons of fun!!!! :earboy2: I am starting to panic about getting packed, because we are flying Wed. around noon. Only have today and tomorrow to get it together.

Can't wait to get there already! :Pinkbounc

On another note, they actually did not cancel our Disney on Ice show, and since the venue is not far from us, we ventured out. There were maybe 500 people in a venue that holds 12,000 or something like that. We ended up in the front, row, practically on the ice. Many of the performers and carachters came right over to my kids, high fived, and shook hands. It was very exciting for them!!!!!
Good day to all! I am off to get a new washing machine!

Wow - you all have been busy writing in here! I have been away from the computer for a while and there were 5 new pages of threads to catch up on!!

DH "earned" a trip to Aruba from work - which leaves us 9 days between to launder and re-pack ugh! - and we had a great time there. I know that Aruba is much warmer this time of year, it's only 30 miles from the coast of Venezuela, but the water was great! I can only hope that the water at CC will be as nice. Cool shiver on the toes when you first dipped in, but didn't notice when we were snorkeling around a while.

I'm thrilled about Pirate night! I just loove Jack Sparrow - hope that ours is half as cute as Johnny Depp! And the kids want to go to the movies to see the Incredibles again. Got our autograph books ready for the 1st morning breakfast. Thanks again for all the tips!!

Pixie dust all around please. I am a little worried that we won't go now, as we put my 82yr old father in law in the hospital at 2 am today. He has pylonephritis and is pretty sick. If he has anything to say about it we will go, but at this point my dh may not feel comfortable. That's why I buy insurance, but ....

Chrissie, Aruba is beatiful. Have stopped there twice on different cruises and thought it was gourgeous. Great beaches and snorkling. (I have heard the scuba diving is good too) .

Keeping the pixie dust flowing :teleport: Kathy

Kathy - sending loads of pixie dust your way :worried: That is terrible news about your FIL. I hope everything turns out OK.

did we arrange a meeting place? we will be the ones carrying winter coats. see you all soon tomi

I guess we need to finalize some meet plans! Some of you are leaving TOMORROW! RIGHT?! I'm still up for coffee - Monday 9 am, Quiet Cove. I'll make a neon green sign - "DIS - January 30, 2005 Anyone?" If anyone can't or just isn't interested, that's OK, because we've had loads of fun just chatting online!

If anyone wants to "call" some other meets (Sun, Tues, Wed) I'm game for that too (sorry, can't make this text NOT bold now) since everyone has diff. plans with family and friends. We don't have to meet for long, just enough to put name to face in case we happen to be on the same excursion, playing bingo together, etc. Anyone want to volunteer another plan?

Dcanoli
01-24-2005, 04:55 PM
Liholi,

You make the sign. That's a really good idea. That way, we can at least stop by to put names to faces.

I'll make the the room/name list and post it here, hopefully, tonight so those leaving tomorrow and the next day can read and/or print it.

If any of you have some other ideas, let us know, so can finalize things in the next day or two.

I printed three - signs that is. I can leave one with someone else in case I can't make a meet.

We are planning on getting to the terminal pretty early too, so I'll keep an eye out for you! Also, here's an idea--we should all go to Home Depot and pick up a MM paint color card to attach to our carry-on bag for easy spotting too.

My in-laws want to leave Pop Century pretty early Sunday morning, so we should be there by 10-10:30. I'm hoping it will still be pretty empty at that time of morning....

I've only gotten two PMs so far--I guess we'll have to wait for everyone else to log back on to the boards to read our notes.

See you gals soon! Deb

Kathy, sorry to hear aout your situation. I hope all turns put well for you!

Will be unable to make a Mon. 9AM meet. I think that is when the Nassau excursion that we chose departs.

Deb: I just sent you my info via PM. Hopefully, others will respond soon too, and the list can be posted by the end of today. We will be leaving the hosue fairly early tomorrow to get to the airport. Supposed to get 1-3" of snow overnight into tomorrow. Hopefully no flight problems due to this!!

Some things to remember....if you HAVE A CHANCE (and I stress IF), go to Home Depot and pick up a MM color card to pin, tape, or whatever to you, your luggage, or whatever so we can recognize each other. If you girls want to specify a color, post it here.

Also, let's try and look for each other, however brief it may be, at the terminal and/or Sail-Away party. Even if it's just a brief moment to stop and say hello before jetting off to something/somewhere else, at least we'll have said hello.

Don't forget this too--some of you are wanting to meet at the Cove on Monday a.m. around 9! :D

It's going to be a fun trip girls! Lots of sun and pixie dust for calm seas and an easy docking at CC....

See you all in FOUR DAYS! Deb :cool1: :cool1:

I can't believe it - it's just our luck of course - my son has an ear infection!! And we are flying out there on Saturday afternoon. What the heck?!? Of all of the days he could be sick, it has to be now!! Poor guy, he feels fine and I caught it as it was just starting so he doesn't even know it. Wish us luck on the flight, the kids have never flown before and I must admit, I am a little bit nervous.

Deb - it sure doesn't look too good for our "planned" :moped: early getaway Sat morning? Right now, the weather channel says ice for Atl, B'ham, and Montg. At the very least, it will be wet and nasty. I'm backing up our departure until around 7 (central), instead of 4. I was a little worried already about deer, but I can't handle DARKNESS and DEER and RAIN and ICE! Oh my!

Julie - BOTH of my sons have ear infections! And I'm trying to get over sinusitus myself (3 of us on antibiotics! 2 of us with shots in the heiny!) I've actually gone back and forth all day about cancelling. BUT, like your son, it doesn't seem to be slowing them down one bit. And surely (insert pwr of positive thinking here) I will feel more like myself by Sunday
(?).

As far as the takeoff/landing & DS's ears - make sure he is not congested (meds or Vicks), is awake, and maybe let him chew some gum (helps the ears 'pop'). Flying makes most people nervous-just remember it's safer than driving!

Is it me? Or does it seem like we have to struggle soooo hard for just a little R & R? Between convincing the spouse, PAYING for it, scheduling work and school, explaining to others why you're going to Disney AGAIN.....:charac2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes, it looks pretty gloomy for our Saturday morning getaway. We are still planning on leaving at 4 a.m., but I'm thinking we should change it to Friday night and hit a budget hotel somewhere on the south side of Atlanta.

I'm pretty bummed because we were gonna spend the day doing all the free Disney things like ride the monorail loop, ride the boat loop around Disney's Boardwalk, eat dinner at Beaches 'n Cream, watch the Electrical Water Pagent Parade along with the MK fireworks, and do DTD! You know, I CAN'T miss my Gharadhelli (sp?) ice cream sundae! It's a family tradition!

Lisa, do you think backing up your departure time until 8 will let some of the ice melt? Just curious....you'll have to fill me in on your thinking (because I may need to use some of it)!

Sounds like you guys are having trouble getting here. Read on one of the threads from the Wonder today that they are requiring all passengers to clean their hands with antisceptic wipes before getting on the ship.Looks like they are really geared up for the Norwalk virus. So everyone make sure you insist the kids et al clean as often as possible. After all the planning doesn' make sense to be cooped up in the cabin.

That's part of it. We take US 231 S, so there's a lot less traffic (to clear the path, so to speak) than would be for you on I-75. We're on the edge of the ice as of now, so I'm keeping a close eye on it today.

My concern (for you) would just be getting out of Atlanta tomorrow. When I lived in B'ham, they closed some major roads during an ice storm ('89 is the one I remember most). But according to the maps, it looks like once you're out of the metro area, you'll be in the clear. Well, except for the rain.

You know, this could cause a LOT of problems at the airport too.

We did not have any def. plans for Sat. Just to get there, stretch our legs, walk and look around at Pop, maybe go eat supper someplace at Crossroads, maybe DTD after that.

I'm ALL for that!!! It may be a little "overboard" (ha ha, I made a pun!), but I bought 2 cans of Lysol, and one pack of Lysol disinfecting cloths for our trip to fumigate our bathrooms in WDW and Wonder. I read that basically you spray like crazy, then close the door (or leave) for 10 min. to let it settle. Has anyone else ever read that?

b&j's_mom
01-28-2005, 10:14 AM
Lisa-

I have never read that about the Lysol, but it sounds good to me. It would at least make me feel better mentally!! I have a bit of a germ phobia - yesterday when I took my son to the doctor I would not even let him out of the stroller and I used hand sanitizer on him and me 4 times. Needless to say, I will be the one on the boat with raw, red, dry, cracked hands!!! I hope you are feeling better by saturday. Those antibiotics can really do wonders.

To all of you - I am hoping for better weather than what is planned for some of you! Get out of there SAFELY!!!

Hey ladies, we just got home. Wasn't the cruise FANTASTIC?! Could we have asked for better weather?! I think not! Sorry I didn't make it for coffee on Monday morning, but we went on the Blue Lagoon excursion. The beach was great, but nothing compared to Castaway Cay. I had one of the open air cabana massages - it was heaven! We will definitely do another Disney cruise some day in the future.

How did you all enjoy your cruises?

We had a good time on the cruise, too. We will have even more fun when my son is a little older (he's barely 2) and can do more of the activities. In Nassau we went to the public beach near Atlantis and enjoyed the sun. You're right, Lindy, the weather was so wonderful. I can't believe less than a week ago, I was in my bathing suit on a warm, sandy beach with a frosty drink in hand... :cloud9:
Castaway Cay was beautiful. We will definately cruise again a couple of years. They make your vacation so easy, there's nothing you have to think about except which desert(s) to try next!!

Hey girls! Glad to see some posts! This is the first time I've been able to get back on the boards!

I'm so bummed I didn't meet any of you! I looked for tatoos and green Mickey heads in the terminal, but didn't see any. (We got to board the ship FIRST!!! Little did I know that while I was registering the kids for their clubs, my MIL was talking to a CM about her upcoming surgery. To all our surprises, they told us to come through a side door and get on first!!! Wow! What a treat!)

You are all right; the weather was glorious! My 5-year old and I were up at 6-6:30 every morning and walked the promenade deck in our pjs to watch the sunrise! It was awesome; there were only a few other people up at that time of morning, and we had the whole deck to ourselves! One time, we even caught the crew putting out the anchor (or something like that...)....

We didn't use the kids' clubs at all; all my kids wanted to do was watch Disney movies in the stateroom, swim, and eat hamburgers and Mickey ice cream bars!

We toyed around with the idea of signing up for a 7-day to get the discount while we were on board, but these cruises are so expensive! We figured we'd better stick with a week visit to the World in the future to eliminate some of the "I'm bored!"'s next time! LOL!!!

I'm so bummed about not meeting anyone; I didn't look at our cabin list until we got back in our car AFTER the cruise because I didn't remember anyone else being on Deck 2. However, I quickly realized a few you were on the same deck we were! Darn it!

What dinner rotation did you guys have? We had PPTA...

We had the AAPT rotation and my daughter fell in love with our assistant server, Halide, from Turkey. She didn't speak a lot of English, but something betweeen her and my daughter clicked! It was really sweet.

Kathy-

I have yet to hear any more about the pillowcases. I can't believe how much it bothers me that I forgot to get them. It is completely my fault, I just didn't remember to go down to G.S. that last night with all of the packing and trying to get everything in before disembarkation morning. I hope I get them back, but we'll just have to see.

Take care.

hey guys, sorry we didn't get to see anyone either. we also had the ppta rotation.Had some good servers this time as well.Valentin and "Al".
We did do both palos and my dh had a good time with the chef.He was also using his scooter around the ship also.
We did book another for Sept. He doesn't really do much on the ship but loves it so much.
His oncologist took him off the treatments for a while as he thinks things are going well and after the cruise his brother and family came down.Whew!
So I am now playing hooky from work to unwind.Glad everyone has a good time and yes the weather was great.Castaway Cay was great. Next time we will do some activities. The water was way too cold for us Floridians.
Just noticed I need to change my countdown.

b&j's mom-Were the cases in a zip lock bag with your name included? If you had this info, hopefully you'll get everything back. I was pleased w/the way our pillowcases were signed. I originally wanted to add an iron on that said Disney Cruise and the dates and a picture w/the characters but I ran outta time to do that. So we just had plain white pillowcases and they were signed w/different color sharpies.

I missed everyone at the meeting whenever it was. I walked around the pool decks about 9:10 am on Monday morning and didn't see anything that looked like it was DIS.

We were in the TTAP main dining rotation. We went to Palo's brunch on Wed at 10 am. We also went to all the 8:30 shows. For anyone at the Michael Harrison 8:30 show my son was picked after the first little boy (who wanted his cousin up there with him) went to sit on the step. So my DS had the rope go around him somehow and he made him a purple balloon into what looked like an intestine and then a red sword balloon.

During the sail away party I saw some people who had a bubble gun was that anyone from here?

We enjoyed the pirate night and party.

When I get a chance I'm going to write more on the cruise review boards.

Thunderrd-

Yes, the pillowcases were in a ziploc bag with our last name and stateroom number on them. They had pictures of my kids ironed on them also. And I have to tell you - your son was GREAT in the Michael Harrison show!! He did so well! And so cute, too! My husband and I thought that show was the best, we really enjoyed it.

All of my pics of him on stage turned out blurry. We saw Michael H. later the last day in the hall and got a pic of him w/my DS then. I laughed alot at his show and wanted to go to some of the others but we didn't make it to any. My son fell for everything he said to do on stage except for kissing the girl. When he first came back to his seat he told us the rope really went thru his body, really it did. Ok, I'm ready to go again.

Hi everyone! :flower:

We just got back early yesterday evening! We had a really good trip, barring a couple of meltdowns from the boys at dinner. They had moved us to early seating when we got to the cabin and got our dining tickets, so we tried taking them with us - BIG mistake. After 2 nights, DH and I had had enough and left them in the kids club, which they seemed to love. Our poor waiters tried sooo hard to keep them amused. Garreth in the OC was really good with them.

Wasn't CC awesome? Such a wonderful day! I really enjoyed it. We dug for a whales tooth at Monsto's Point, went for a bike ride and played in the sand too. I thought the food was pretty darn good at Cookie's.

Kathy - It was so great to meet and talk to you at the Cove. Thunderrd - I'm very sorry you didn't find us. We were inside Quiet Cove on deck 9 from 9-9:30. But we DID see your son at the show - his facial expressions were so great!!!

Has anyone booked another cruise yet? Besides Arlene?!

Unfortunately, it will be a while for us. I didn't mention it before now, so as not to be a downer, but I am being "displaced" from my job of 17 years, due to a huge bank merger. I'm ok with it (now), but $ will be much tighter as I've decided to be a stay-at-home mom, for at least the next couple of years. I find out this Thurs. my 'end of job' date, guessing end of April.

Hey! I can't believe, Thun., that was YOUR SON! LOL! We had an absolute blast at that show! My husband went to his other show on Wed., and he really enjoyed it a lot. You son was a hoot! ;)

And...guess what? WE WERE THE ONES WITH THE BUBBLE GUNS AT THE SAIL-AWAY PARTY!!!!! My two sons had them, and we brought along two bottles to give to other children that didn't have bubbles...

I think they were starting to annoy the others around us. I tried to get them to point the guns upwards, but somehow they just kept point them straight ahead! LOL!

That is just too funny isn't it? We were all right around each other and never knew it! :)

I saw you with the bubble gun.If the bubbles annoyed anyone.Too bad! you were having fun. I do the sail away on the 10th deck as DH can sit at the railing.
We were still stuffing our faces at 9am.Sorry we missed you guys.We got a late start on nassau day.
I saw mh's earlier show and it was great. We actually caught the end of his act at wavebands the night before.
I still haven't seen Hercules. Well there's next time.

I can't believe you saw us! I think we were the only ones with a bubble gun, which is a little weird considering I got the idea off these boards...go figure!

Anyway...to be perfectly honest about Hercules, I don't think you were missing anything...both my boys fell asleep. I don't understand why they even have that show. Why don't they do a show based on one of their POPULAR movies?

Sorry we missed you! Maybe next time! Deb

So you guys were inside the Cove Cafe, I did not go in there just walked around the pools. I would not have been able to stay long anyways because I had a tray of food to bring back to the room.

My DS is still talking about his appearance at the MH show. We keep teasing him about the trap door he was standing on and asking why he didn't take a hold of the sword sooner. :rotfl:

Bubbles are not that annoying IMO. I saw you guys from the upper deck where we watched the party. I brought bubbles but forgot to get them out.

I'm guessing you were also at the Pirate Party w/the glow in the dark necklaces? If that was you then we were close there. My DS's had the glow stick around their neck but one left the party early.

liholi-Sorry to hear about your job but on the other hand you get to spend more time w/your family now. I know the banking field from working in one for about 10 yrs and 2 mergers.

We booked a 7 day western cruise for 2006! :cool1: :sunny:

Okay, after looking at your pictures, maybe you can help me! I think I must be the worse photographer in the world. My husband downloaded a bunch of our pics today on my PC, and I don't think they came out that well at all!

(I'm disappointed because he just me the new Koday 6.1 MP camera for Christmas, and this is really the first time I've used it.)

Your pictures are really fabulous! What kind of camera did you use? Film or digital and was it point-and-shoot or SLR? I'm just curious because so many of my pictures came out dark, and even your inside shots of the shows and characters in the atrium came out really well.

Also, you got a lot of close-ups. How did you do that (i.e., Sail-Away party and Pirates' Night)? Were you that close or what kind of zoom does your camera have?

Oh, BTW, to answer your question, we had glow-in-the-dark BRACELETS on at the POC party, so I'm not sure if it was us you saw or not. I think I may have seen your DS with a glo stick. Where were you at for the party? We were sitting atop the back of the goofy pool.

I'd love to download some of your pictures for my album if you don't mind. They are really good pictures--much better than ours. Would you mind if we used some of them for our souvenir album (i.e., ship and scenery shots)?

I was using a digital camera for all the pictures. I mainly used a panasonic 5 mp FZ20. A few were taken with my old 3.2mp Olympus like the one of my DS at the show. The FZ20 has image stabilization which is why I think the one on my son was blurry. Sometimes even w/image stabilization on the movement of the ship was too much.

The FZ20 is a point and shoot digital. It does have a 12x optical zoom on it but when you zoom past 3x or 4x you really need to use a tripod to prevent blurriness so I rarely zoomed above 3x since I didn't use a tripod. The camera has lots of settings but I basically used the auto setting for all pics.

During the shows since you aren't allowed to use a flash, I just turned the flash off and waited for the whiter lights to shine on the performers. Sometimes because of the slight delay some are darker than I would have liked.

For all the character pics in the atrium I did have the flash on. Oh wait you're talking about the ones from the until we meet again party. I don't think I did use the flash, I can't remember. We were one floor up from Mickey and Minnie and Jacqui at this party.

At Castaway Cay, I walked out to the Heads up bar and set the camera on the fence and used the zoom to get some shots of the ship. Because of the suns position I probably should have adjusted some settings on the camera so they wouldn't have turned out so bright. Also some of the pics of CC and the ship may have been when we were on the paddle boat. I took both cameras out on the boat w/us and used both.

For the sail away party we were standing on the upper deck on the left side of the stage. For the pirates party we were down on the right side by the stage, so we were pretty close there. We were right next to the steps around the stage so I didn't use a zoom on any of those.

You're welcome to use any pics you want. I have about 275 pics altogether. I think these are all my pics w/out people in them, all the rest have members of our family in them.

You can try using some editing software either that came w/the camera or another to lighten up some of the pictures. It helps to read the manual w/the camera and take pictures using the appropriate settings, however I only used auto. Kodak dig cameras generally take great pics, was it only the indoor pics that were a bit dark? Are you happy with the outdoor pics?

Thunderrd-

Great pictures! We had to be really close to each other at the Pirate Party. My daughter had a glow necklace on and she was in a Tinkerbell costume, but we weren't there very long. Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

my 2 kids had glow necklaces on at the pirate party. We were right in the front for that too. I always get confused with Port/Starboard. We were to the left of the stage if you were facing it. My DH was actually sitting on the step of the stage!!!

The kids had a great time. I thought that the Mickey Pool was a bit out of control though!!! We did book another cruise while on board in order to lock in the discounts. You can cancel up until 75 days before your sail date for a full refund, and we wanted to retain that option.

I am sure some of us passed each other during the trip. I am sorry I never got to meet anyone. I was looking for green HD Mickeys and stuff, but never saw any!!!!

Anyone got their CD/DVD (??) from DCL yet? I've read on these boards that DCL sends out a CD with some music and the ship's horn on it.

we got ours a bit after the cruise after we got the first castaway club cards. It has a screensaver. The problem was my ds had to install it for me as it just didn't want to open anywhere on any of my programs.
You'll love the screensaver. I have it on my pc and my dh has one that was posted months ago with pics from the ship with disney music.
