Hi Amanda. I booked, but shhh. My family doesn't know yet. I did call DH this morning and asked if Costa Maya is a good diving spot. That's the criteria. He's not crazy about CC twice, but if he's excited about CM, it's OK! My DD will be 15 on that cruise, and she's a diver too. I'm the only non-diver in the family.

Told my DH too. He officially thinks I'm nuts. This is even further out than our upcoming cruise, which we booked 17 months out.

I have a feeling that we won't really need to recruit people for this cruise, it will fill up. Lots of people love CC.

We're set now, just added my Dmom and DD 15 to our ressie. My mom will be celebrating #70 in March 2006, used that to sway DD 15 to come along.

I still can't believe that DW and I are booked for two cruises in 2005, and now one for 2006. I guess we are DCL addicts all the way, LOL!!!

I will have to add our May 2006 countdown clock after our January 2005 cruise is over.

Myself, DH and our two boys (they'll be 11 and 9 in '06)! I booked first thing this morning with DCL, then searched around and got a great price with Costco. We've got a Cat. 6 and I'll keep my fingers crossed for another upgrade to Cat 4. We sailed the Eastern this past May and can't wait to do the Western and TWO Castaway days!! I am already planning on spending the second CC day just laying enjoying the adults beach!

Amanda, "might as well" retitle this thread and make it official. We've got a contingent here!

I've been looking forward to our December cruise for a year and a half, and talking to folks on that thread for that long. I just knew when it was over, it would be so depressing. So booking this cruise was the cure! Now I will have another year and a half of looking forward and getting to know everyone!

So, anyone going to the World in October? We will be there the 8th to the 13th, and again Dec. 28-31 after our cruise.

We have a curtesy(sp) hold on our room until Monday. Bust since talking to DCL, Mickid and I talked and we are going to spring for a navigator's verandah. I like to get up early in the morning and watch the sun rise. She likes to sleep a bit later along with Dominique. She will be almost 6 on this cruise. She had a blast on the one we just got off of. Doing the happy happy dance.
Now we just have to come up with a time to cruise in 2005. Think we are going to cancel the August repo cruise.
Talk to ya'll later

COOL!! My kids loved emailing with their cruise buddies before we set sail on our last cruise. Wow..4 kids, you are brave! LOL!! Let's remember to get the kids chatting before the cruise. No way I'm telling my kids about this one yet. I think I've got about 500 days before I need to say anything! ;)

RAC, think think think away. YOu have a yearand a half minus 60 days to think without penalty! Just dont let go of that cabin, because at the 60 day mark, you can let it go without penalty, you can never get back that Early Booking Savings. I cant plan this far ahead either, I mean who really can? BUT I can let DCL hold my depo and if for some reason we cant go, than no harm done I get my money back. My particular rate has already gone up over $1000 on the DCL site, just in one day:earseek:

I booked the 5/27/2006 special Western cruise for myself and DS who will be 17 at that time. DS will have just graduated from high school a few days earlier, and we will be celebrating on this cruise!

This will be our 3rd DCL cruise by then. We are booked for the May 29, 2005 4-night Wonder, and we enjoyed our first DCL experience this past summer in July, also on the 4-night Wonder.

I called DCL yesterday morning and booked this cruise too (SPH #5020 to boot!). Two days at CC were a HUGE draw for us. It's our favorite port on the cruise. My DH said it would fine with him if we just docked there for 7 days!! We stayed in #5020 this summer on the western and loved it. I hope my DS (16 at the time of the 5/27/06 cruise) school schedule stays the same as this year so he won't miss any school (private Catholic school with really tough standards and a straight A student who HATES to miss school). I'll cross my fingers for no snow days to make up. This summer we took my son's best friend (since they were 4) with us on the cruise and then to WDW for 9 days, but I don't think his mom will let him miss baseball to go with us on this cruise. My son had soooo much fun having a friend along, I went ahead and booked his best friend on this cruise, but was told by DCL that I could change the name to someone else at no charge. So it will be me (Kathy), DH (Brian) and DS (Jake) along with a guest to be determined at a later time. We had a mini DIS meet before our cruise in July and it was so neat to put faces with names after talking on line for so many months in anticipation of the trip. I hope we can keep this thread going until the cruise.

After I put down the deposit and told the family, I remembered Dance Recital! Oh Noooo! It's every other year (2006 would be the year), usually on Memorial Day weekend. But there's a new studio owner, I'm going to talk to her and see if she's going to change things. DD is always in lots of numbers, she's on the dance team.

So I'm trying not to think about this cruise until we figure out if we can actually go.

To further complicate things, the school system will not publish next year's calendar until almost the end of this year! They have always gotten out by May 25 or so, they'd better not change it!

My price from DCL is $3895 for 2 adults & 2 16 year olds with transfers, but no insurance and no airfare (I like to arrange that myself and fly in the night before staying at The Hyatt in the airport - makes for a VERY stress free start to the cruise!). I'm getting a few other quotes just in case someone can beat it.

I got a Cat 6 cabin (6056) for 2 adults and 2 kids through Costco for $4311. DCL quoted me $4800+, no airfare, no transfers.

What I don't get is on DCL's website the western cruise the week before ours is a lot more. Is that just because we're doing CC days? I'd rather do that than Key West, any day!

I booked a Cat 11 (#7067) with DCL for 2 adults on 9/29 for $2,297, including insurance but not transfers (since we live in Central Florida, only about 1 hour or so away from Port Canaveral). We had a Cat 11 on board the Wonder, and were very comfortable, just being two of us. Thought we would do this again, and save a few extra $$ to spend on goodies and shopping!

I have used her for 3 cruises! Dana is great and her customer service skills are fantastic! No problems whatsoever, unless you call getting me a great deal therefore causing me to take more cruises problems! LOL She posts here at the DIS occasionly, but never promoting her own site or business. She is a big pin trader and DCL is her specialty. SOmeone on the DIS reccomended her to me back in 2002 and I have used her ever since. The only time I did not use her was for the 09-19 Wonder that we just got off of. I saw a low price for it at all seas and called her with the price. She told me straight up that I had a fantastic deal and to jump on it. I would give her a call tommorow, she has a toll free number and you will get a sense of how great she is by talking in person to her.

Hubby is starting to come along and I think I will be calling on Monday to put my deposit down. I love Dana at ***********. I called her on Friday to let her know that I had gotten a lower quote from Costco ($45). She said she couldn't believe it, but to hold on. She got on the line with Disney and came back to me saying that she got it lower by $1 and some change. So, now for the four of us in a Cat 10/Deck 7 (me, hubby, son-15, daughter 11) our cost if $3,220.

diznyacct -- no transfers or insurance. I like to rent a car to go to the port because it is lots cheaper and last time I got Leisure Guard Insurance because it would cover our flights, where the one from Disney would not. Plus it was way cheaper.

Since both of your kids will be 16, your 4th person will be higher than my 4th person. My son's price was around $650 and my daughter's was around $512.

Good luck with Dana. You will really like her. I have already referred her to a friend. Let her know you heard about her hear from the DIS, she will love that.

My rate was $3959 through Costco for 2 adults and a 15 yo in Cat 6. We will check when we are on board in Dec. to see if rebooking would save us any. Still hoping we can go! Sounds like there are a number of 15/16 year olds going on this cruise so far.

I read some good reviews of Costa Maya, will have to go look for the bad ones. It's probably a case of some people liking non-touristy, not as developed ports, and others not.

Amanda ~ How great that two "money savers" will be next door to each other!! My DH Brian still thinks that we're just "thinking" about the cruise. I always do all the vacation planning and he has no clue how fast I had to act to get a SPH room. That's OK, he'll thank me as soon as we pull up and see that beautiful ship (always brings a tear to his eye). He's always very ho-hum about Disney vacations, but once we're there he's just like a kid again. On our cruise in July he spent an hour talking to the DVC guy telling him how much he loved it. He wanted me to do an add-on before we left the ship! We do OK with the points we have, so I didn't buy any more.

Can I ask what the ages are of the children that you're travelling with? We've got my son Jake's friend (Matt) on our reservation, but I won't know for quite a while if he'll be able to come. We paid for his cruise/WDW vacation in July (~$2000 just for his expenses) and decided that he (his parents) would have to help out quite a bit on this trip if he wanted to come. Money's tight for them so I'll just have to see what happens. Matt is a really great kid and I would love to pay for him again, but I can't do it all.

We spent quite a bit of $$ on excursions in July (all three boys just HAD to parasail at CC and Brian wanted to do the fishing trip at CC ~ all this while I was happy as a clam on my $6 float with a tropical drink in my hand!) and I'm hoping to really cut back this time. We LOVED the little beach time we had at Grand Cayman (although swimming with the stingrays was the COOLEST thing I have ever done) and Cozumel and are hoping to just chill out at the ports. Some of the Costa Maya reviews aren't sounding too good. Hopefully things will improve by 5/06!

I am so honored that Andy is on our sailing. I feel like I already know him after reading so much about him, especially his involvement with Nathan Paige. I think Andy is an angel living on earth, doing the good that he does.

On our 7/17/04 sailing we had a DIS meet in the DCL terminal before we boarded. I hope as the time of our sailing draws near we can plan something like that.

Everyone have a good night! We have a frost warning here tonight. It's supposed to get down to 29º here tonight!! I am NOT ready for winter!!

dznyacct, my DH thinks we are also "thinking" about the cruise. I used the ole, " Awe comeon honey, we can always cancel, but I can not make the rates go back down" line. He said Ok dear, whatever you want! LOL YOur DH sounds a lot like mine. He thinks I am a big kids because I love Disney so much, but once we get to WDW or on the Magic he is like a kid.

At the time we travel ( and we will beon this ship:teeth: ) my kids will be 10,9,6 and 3. The 3 older ones will be a few months shy of the next age up. Mine do not know about this cruise, I probably wont tell them until May of 06! LOL We are cruising in November of this year, on the Magic and I just told them about it on Saturday! I was able to keep it a secret for a whole year! Yay me! Wow that was very generous of you to pay for your son's friend's expenses. If you feel the need to do so for one of mine, I just want to let you know that I would not be offended in the least :-):sunny:
I hear you on the excursions. We soent ALOT last year, We did the Sting Ray swim in Grand Cayemn ( awesome) and the Royal Dolphin Swim in Coz ( even better!) than parasailing in CC (because Andy said it wasnt so bad, I am scared of heights) and banana boat ride ( again because Andy lost his glasses and I felt the need to help a fellow DISerprincess: ) but I do not feel like we got to relax..........so this year we are not planning ANYTHING............and see how that goes....we might just like it! My DH and I were on the 09-19 Wonder, and this is how we played it...........it was so relaxing.............

I feel the same about Andy, I am so glad to finally be able to meet him in person.
I cant believe you have a frost warning! We are still wearing shorts! Of course I am in Columbus Ga !@ :wave2:

good morning ya'll,
Up early this morning for a mandatory inservice at work.
Robin, that did NOT include insurance or transfers. We only live about 4 hours from the port so we declined transfers. Still thinking about the insurance. Probably will get it later. Looks like we will be next door neighbors. We have room 7126.
Talk to ya'll later.

Diznyacct - How old are your sons? I have one that will almost be 16 when we sail. One of my daughter's friends has booked the same cruise so she will be ecstatic.

Did everyone get their deposits in. I am so bummed. I really wanted a sph, but didn't get one. So for those of you who did get the sph, if your husband's won't let you go, be sure and let me know (haha). Mine doesn't know that I am going to secretly start paying it off $100 a month, so when final payment comes due, there won't be much to pay. I doubt that he will want to change his mind at that point.

We are looking into one of the dolphin swims at Cozumel. Last time we were there, we hung at at Nachi Cocum beach club. But with 2 days at CC, I want to do something fun in port. My daughter loves dolphins.

Hi Pam ~ at the time of sailing my son Jake will be 16 2/3 (to be exact!). If his friend Matt ends up going with us, he will be 16 3/4 at the time of sailing. They had sooo much fun this summer hanging out at The Stack. I held on to Matt's spending money while we were on the ship (no need for cash on board, right?). One night Matt comes to me and says "Kathy, I need $20 of my spending money and don't ask any questions." Of course being the good surrogate mom that I am, I asked him what he needed cash for on a ship that you couldn't use cash on. Well, it seems the kids in The Stack had a little poker tourney going! I compromised and gave him $10. Of course he lost it, but they had fun.

I love the under 600 days dance!! Luckily, I have "only" 200 days till our Spring Break (just me and Jake, Brian isn't the "Disney Nut" that I am) trip to WDW. I'm making myself try on my swimsuit once a week as motivation to keep using my elliptical trainer. A No Way Jose from Beaches and Cream is calling my name!

After a long discussion yesterday with my DW and DD, I'm sad to report that we have to switch our 5-27-06 cruise to the 8-19-06 sailing.

Being a "man" and a "dad" I wasn't even thinking when I selected the 5-27-06 sailing date. Now that our DD is in high school we really have to watch the time we pick for vacations. Our high school has it's prom anywhere from the middle to the end of May each year, and final exams start the end of May.

I wish you all a "MAGICal" time in May 2006, and I pray that there are no hurricanes for August 2006, that's the main reason I first selected the May date.

I too am a little worried about the school calendar. It won't be out till sometime next spring for the 05/06 school year. This year our kids last day is on Wednesday, May 25. I sure hope it follows the same pattern. My son will be a sophomore in high school by then, so they really frown on them missing finals. Only one year have they had the kids go back to school after Memorial Day, so lets hope they don't do it again.

Pam ~ I think my son and your son are about the same age. Jake is now a Freshman (just turned 15 a few weeks ago). Our school calendar this year has them getting out the Friday before Memorial Day. I'm really crossing my fingers that they have the same schedule next year (and don't have more than 2 snow days to make up). We really like to fly down to Orlando the night before the cruise. It makes for a very relaxing embarkation day.

dznyacct--

Your son is a little older, but they are in the same grade. My son's birthday is in June. One good thing I hadn't thought about, is that if the kids have A's going into finals and haven't missed more than 3 days of school for the semester, they can skip taking finals. He is a very good student, so maybe he can get out of having to take most of his finals. We don't have to worry about snow days here where we live. It has probably been 5 years since they had one. My daughter will be in middle school, and they always start one day earlier than the others and get out one day earlier. Oh well, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Pam

dznyacct

Pam ~ Wow, I wish Jake's school had the same rules for finals! He's a straight A student (and hardly ever misses a day of school) and no finals would be such a GREAT reward, plus getting to slide a little the last few days of school. I'm crossing my fingers on the snow days. They build in two makeup days in the calendar. If they didn't miss school they get two extra days off in March and April. I wish they would just have them get out two days earlier. Oh well, I'm sure everything will work out fine. I just talked to a wonderful friend that we made on our July cruise last night. She and her husband and daughter live in California. We met them while waiting in line to board the ship. Their daughter was a year younger than Jake and his friend Matt. They hung out on the ship (just as friends) and had a great time. We ended up doing something with Sal and Marlisa every day on the ship. They went to WDW after the cruise (like us), so we met them for dinner one night while the kids went to Disney Quest. I really felt like we made lifelong friends. I had always heard of that happening, but couldn't believe that it really did.

We'll be on this cruise! We changed our Feb 2005 (booked over a year ago- so the wait continues.. LOL) to May 27th, 2006! We were on a waitlist for secret porthole rooms but didn't get it. (wah)
I just got my info (a month later- and had to ask for it I might add) from ************* and I'm not happy with the rooms they got us. They have us booked for the rooms we originally were stuck with (for about a day) when we booked Feb 2005 and they are listed as noisy rooms so I had immediately changed the rooms (cat 9, deck 2, 2622/2624). But they didn't get us those rooms for this cruise- they got us the 2594/2596 rooms! I'm hoping they can change that but I'm not holding my breath on it- since it's been a MONTH. I'm not pleased.. this is why I kept contacting them asking for the info, asking why I hadn't received it in the mail yet nor an email, etc. (this was handled by phone changing the cruise dates and all that) I was worried something like this would happen! :(

We're still on the waitlist for secret porthole rooms but I know that's not going to come open. LOL

I'm crossing my fingers we don't end up in the noisy rooms -but we'll be on this cruise! :)

Oh and we're confirmed for late dining... and our kids ages at that time will be: daughter just turned 12yrs, son 8yrs, daughter almost 6yrs.

This will be our 2nd cruise for me, DH and DS(will be 11 in 2006). We stayed in a Cat 11 before (6/5/04) and have splurged for at Cat 7 this time...cabin 7122! We went with our DU quote, as ****** never returned my call (I left 3 messages). Perhaps I should try e-mailing them just to see what their quote would be. Can't wait to meet everyone. We're not telling our son about this cruise. I'd love to keep it a secret until our drive down, but it will probably slip sometime because I'm so EXCITED!

dzneprincess, we're in Alpharetta - up GA 400 from ATL. We drove to the World last month - 8 hours - left at 6:30 a.m. and make it to OKW by 2:30. Just figured there was no way to get an 8 hour drive in & make it to the ship for noon. That's why I thought of splitting the trip. Looks like you're a vet at this cruise thing. What do you typically do?

10-26-2004, 08:05 PM
Hi ya'll from GA! Alpharetta is about 20 miles north of Atlanta up 400.

Cajun Girl2....We always drive. Since living here 4 years, we've driven down to either WDW or the Port at least 10 times (lost count). It will probably take you about 8 hours to the Port. You probably want to take 75 to the FLA Tpk and then head west (the road number is escaping me). Our DDs's last day will be that Fri. as well. I may get them out early and head straight down. Valdosta is probably about half way if you're planning to break it up. We always potty break in Tifton, and that's about 3 hours. Do you have a vcr or dvd for the car. If not, I HIGHLY recommend it!

We are also in a category 8. We've stayed on deck 5 before and loved the convenience to the Oceaneers Club and Lab so we'll be there again. I'm sure deck 7 will be great. My DH actually prefers not to have a verandah for safety and humidity reasons. I personally love the verandah, but don't mind the money I'm saving.

Until next time :wave2: !

We drive down the night before. I like to know that we are actually there and in town. I dont want to get on the ship with the eight hour car uglies (as my pal calls them). SO we go down the day or maybe 2 before and relax at a hotel. Last year we stayed at the Radisson in Port Canaveral, as they offer a shuttle to the port and free parking while you are on board. In September we stayed at the AllStar Music for 2 nights prior, and well next month I do not know what I am going to do, probably pick up a room near the airport thru priceline for cheap.

doubletroublemom, yes we have a DVD player. We take too many trips "home" to LA (you may have guessed from my screen name) to visit family & friends. That's at least a 7 hour drive so it was a must have!!!

I guess I've got a LOT of time to figure out this whole drive thing. Just thought that splitting the trip would work best for us since DH & I both work full-time. Besides, if you want to make it down 400 and through ATL with minimal traffic, we'd probably have to leave at 10:00 A.M.!!! That would mean another day off of work. Hmmm .. by 2006 I think I'll finally be up to 3 weeks of vacation again.

Yeah, I'm so sure you're sorry! LOL Seriously though- how'd you get them? I mean how far ahead did you get on the waitlist and who did you book with? I'm just curious because I was on a waitlist for quite some time with ************* and I'm wondering if they are just placating me with this 'waitlist' business when really they couldn't do it while someone else (like who you booked with for instance) really COULD do the waitlist thing?

I have emailed them and they still haven't reached me back... I finally got the paperwork in the mail Friday for this (a month later! Unusual for them in my experience! I got the paperwork within a few days last time I booked...) and it shows the rooms I don't want ofcourse!
They are going to have to change the rooms somehow... I am NOT going to stay in 2 of the very few rooms on that list of "noisy rooms"... nope, not gonna. We are light sleepers and we also stay up late/sleep in late in the morning (thus the late dining choice) and we don't want to be woken up early every morning on this cruise! The whole point of doing a cruise is for us to get our Disney fix (us being me and the kids) while DH gets to relax a little more than we do at the parks. Being woke up early every morning by noise is going to negate that whole benefit! Noise just simply won't do. I'll have to email them again. I'm a little annoyed that they changed the booking to different rooms that they'd originally tried to give me and I'd DECLINED and changed to other rooms.. without even telling me they were doing that! *peeved a little*
(only a little- because I'm hoping it can still be changed. That "little" will change to a LOT if they can't change them satisfactorily!)

Now if you change your mind on the SPH rooms... let me know. HAHAHAHAHA I won't be holding my breath on that... LOL

I booked directly thru DCL the day the rates came out. I was not on any kind of waiting list, I was not expecting to get SPR's. I was not even expecting to book! LOL I just figured I would call and get an idea of the price, because we normally cruise off season. When I didnt faint from sticker shock, and once I was asked if I wanted deck 5 to which I replied, but of course, only then did I decide to book. I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but thats how it went. Anyways. once i booked thru DCL and had things like I wanted it, then I called Dana at www.*********** to see what she could do on the price for me, and she did well :teeth: so I transferred the ressie over to her.

Hi Everyone!

We just got back from 4 nights in Sunny Orlando. :bounce: We went to the MNSSHP on Friday and had a blast! We walked on almost all the rides and got to preview the new Stich ride.
We spent a few days at US and IA and the Revenge of the Mummy ride was "Awesome"!:hyper:

So now we are counting down to our 10 year Anniversay trip to Cancun, just the two of us, DD is staying with the in-laws.

Welcome home RAC! I want to get to the Mummy ride at IOA so badly! Is it worth it?

RAC
11-03-2004, 08:13 PM
You bet!::yes:: We rode it twice. The first time it was about a 15 minute wait and then on Monday when we went we walked right on. This seems like it is the best time of year to go. We got a great deal on airfare $70 round trip through Independence Air. It only took us 52 minutes to get to Orlando, that was so nice. It usually takes us around 8 1/2 hours to drive there.

If by some some bizarre chance you have Jessica (from Sweden, I think) and Matej (from Croatia ??) as your servers, could you please get me a picture of them? We had them as our servers in July. Jake and Matt were "in love" with Jessica (about 20, blonde, very cute), but of course were very quiet around her. We had some great pictures of them from our cruise. Unfortunately our digital camera (with over 300 cruise photos) and a lot of cash was stolen from our locker at Typhoon Lagoon on our WDW trip after the cruise. Losing the cash was hard to swallow, but when I realized the cruise pictures were gone, I really thought I was going to throw up. Please don't go to any trouble, but just in case, I would love to have a picture of them. Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Actually that's very disappointing (for me with *************) and I think I'm going to have to say something to my agent with them about this. What's the point of being on a waiting list for almost 2mo then when the rates go out DCL gets the rooms with someone who books that day and wasn't on the waitlist? That sounds like to me that allseas is full of it with the "waitlist" and DCL gets top billing over them- yanno?
ugh
Anyway, I'm glad someone I know got the rooms though. :)

I did get contacted back finally by allseas and the reason for not hearing back sooner was a good one- my agent just had his first baby and was off work for awhile! :) He sent me a picture (you can tell he's really excited about her) and she's soooo cute. So he is forgiven. LOL
He did get the rooms changed on deck 2 connecting rooms that are not on the noisy room list on that other website... so all is well.

I know that neighbors can be noisy too- that can happen at the resorts also. But I didn't want to for SURE have noise waking us up in the mornings even if the neighbors were quiet. And with having 3 kids in this family it's kinda like what KIND of noise that will wake us up. Meaning all of us, including the kids, have learned to tune out other family member type "noises" when trying to sleep- but when it comes to mechanical type noises, that is not something we're used to and most likely wouldn't tune out and would wake us up. KWIM?

I can reccomend 2 great connecting 10s! LOL we stayed in 2071 and 2073 last year and they were in a great location. They were midship and on the other side of 2071 was the conference room so there was no noise issue there.

Where can I find the list of noisy rooms? I've stayed on Deck 5 before, but I'm moving a few rooms closer to mid-ship.

So sorry to hear about your camera being stolen. Mine broke after my Halloween photos, and I'm sick about that. I can't imagine losing my cruise photos. I sure hope Disney did something for you even though it can't replace your photos. How about a free cruise???:earseek:

I think the link was shown a few pages earlier in this thread- so that I could check which rooms weren't noisy before changing my rooms. However, the list shows rooms that are noisy on deck 2. I'm not aware of any list of noisy rooms on deck 5.... I think these "noisy rooms" are related to things that are closer to deck 2, not deck 5. (mechanical noises and such)

We got 2 cat 10's 5022 and 5024 for a total of 5147.00 thru Dana at www.*********** (it was 5503.68 thru DCL directly, she saves me almost $400) This is for 2 adults and 4 kids BUT 2 kids will pay adult fare because we need 2 rooms.

Dzneprincess- I owe you a big thanks. I owe you a thanks for being honest and telling me how you got those SPH rooms (booking when dates came out- not on a list for them like I was) because I spoke with my rep from ************* (by email) about how that happened (don't worry- I didn't name names nor did I say what rooms you had- just said I'd heard someone say they got secret porthole rooms and weren't even on a waiting list like I was) and the reason I'm quoting you above is because I had to go look back at what rooms you'd said... because for a moment there I was scared somehow you got bumped out of your rooms (like maybe an upgrade to make ME happy or something) but nope- we'll just be neighbors!

My rep said he had Disney take a closer look and something "did not occur as it should have along the way" and he said that wasn't the norm for *************- and he said he has secured rooms 5522 and 5524 for me! I'm not sure how that happened now- unless Disney realized they'd passed me on the list, gave the rooms to someone else and decided to upgrade the other people so I could have those rooms??

Anyway- we'll be neighbors! :)

I got so excited having found this thread (and this whole board) last night, that I forgot to post my message here!!! I am new to DIS cruising, but not at all new to cruising! Did the 'Big Red Boat' in '93 and came home with a 'little souvineir' just like the more recent DCL commercial stated... cruised many times on NCL and Home Lines (non-existent now.)

Can't wait to double-scoop with all the rest of you! DS will be 9 and DD will be 12 by the time we sail (wow- that makes it seem soooooo far away!)

I am not up on all the in's and out's of whats good and what's not in terms of staterooms, but will keep the Cat9 we got- my TA is great at scoping out upgrades, etc- and I have given her free reign to do what's best, provided we end up with a 9 or higher. I am one who truly spends NO time in the SR!!

Question for all of you- booked 1st sitting dinner, as my kids are used to dinner at 6... are we going to be innundated by toddlers and the like????? I'd love to hear what your past experiences have been regarding early vs late dinner... thanks!

Welcome Kikipug. We, also, have requested first seating at dinner with our DS who will be 11. We had late seating on our 6/5/04 cruise and enjoyed it, but decided to try early dinner this time. We're not much on the shore excursions, so I don't think we'll feel rushed getting ready for dinner. That, plus I'd like my food to settle a little before I get to bed. We're early to bed, early to rise in our family. I did tell myself that I was going to stay up later and catch some of the adult shows this time, though. As for toddlers at dinner, we had a few cranky toddlers at our late seating last time...

Thanks Sandi... my kids are up at the crack of dawn, and are the only kids I know that actually have a real bedtime (not adhered to on a cruise, obviously), so your rationale sounds great to me! I am thinking that the shows would be less busy, but I supposed thats not really the case, as all those who book later get stuck with 2nd seating whether they like it or not! What did your son wear on formal and semi-formal nights last time?

BibbidyBobbidyBoo
11-18-2004, 10:45 PM
We're so opposite. Although the kids have an early bedtime when there is school the next day- I generally have to FORCE that on them... all of us (except DH- who's sleeping schedule is so messed up from rotating shifts at work it's not even funny) are late to bed/late to get up type people. So we chose late dinner seating... we plan on doing excursions/etc. at all the ports and we're used to eating dinner later after all the soccer, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, running teams, Awanas, etc. even during the school year anyway!

I hope it works out well for us... I just didn't really think early seating would work for us.

11-19-2004, 07:08 AM
DS wore his suit/tie on formal night (Wal-Mart special). and just wore suit pants and dress shirt on semi-formal. He ended up wearing the suit pants with different shirts to dinner each evening. If the suit doesn't fit any longer by cruise time, we'll consider renting a tux for him. Doubt if he'll wear his suit again for anything else and we won't have to worry about packing one along. He still has a set bed-time on school nights, but is usually in bed early other nights also, only because mom and dad can't stay awake! Just getting old, I guess.:o

We opted for late seating on our upcoming cruise. We had early seating at first, because I had always heard that was better for the kids. Well last year on our Halloween cruise, I always felt so rushed trying to get dinner in. Then, when DH and I cruised in September without the kids, we opted for late seating to compare. Oh what a difference! It will be late seating for us from now on! Of course after I get back from my cruise next week, I may be singing a different story! LOL We will see how the kids deal with it. But they are all telling me they want to eat in the clubs anyways.

Amanda- Let us know how it goes! I am considering switching if I think about it hard enough. I am sure that with the number of people who WANT 1st sitting and don't get it, it shouldn't be hard to switch to late seating... the kids will be five hundred-something days older at that point... who knows what they will want to do??????

Enjoy your trip next week... I am so jealous!!!!!!!

Thanks RAC! It was awesome. We left Columbus Ga at about 530pm on Friday the 26th. It did not seem real! After months of waiting, it was finally our turn! I hated the idea of leaving so late, but my DH was not able to get that day off of work, and anyways it gave me more time to pack and clean house. When my son came home from school before the holiday, I about died when I saw his bookbag and how much work he had to do, so he worked on it thru the day. He still had to carry his bookbag tht was so heavy, I could hardly lift it. The kids did well on the drive down. We ended up getting to the Wingate Airport near MCO at about midnight. I won this on priceline and was very pleased with the room and the location. I would definitly stay here again! I packed us a one night bag, so we didnt have to haul all the luggage down. We took the kids in, our toiletries bag, and I was beat. I did the 2nd half of the driving, once we got onto 75. So from Valdosta to Orlando, I drove. We got ready for bed, but my son Nathan (18 months) did not want to sleep! That was a task! LOL I set a wake up call for 7am. and off to sleep I went with thoughts of Disney in my head :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

I am not at all in the mood this year (and I am a Christmas FANATIC)... moving to FL has killed my wintertime-Christmastime spirit, I think. Next year's shopping will be easy... the cruise will be the 'big gift' under the tree for everyone.

After a 'girl's shopping weekend' the weekend before Thanksgiving and our 3 inches of snow on Thanksgiving eve, I've pretty much been in the Christmas spirit for awhile. I have almost everything done and wrapped. I just need to get a little something for our (not so darling) 14-year old grandson. We only see him a couple of times a year and he rarely acknowledges us (being step-grandparents and he has an attitude). Any ideas for this age/attitiude other than a lump of coal?

Quick fix that is remarkably easy (so you don't have to spend more time than deserved)... "night out in a box" ... movie passes and gift certs to his favorite fast food place. He'll think that you are cool for knowing what he likes, and he won't have to bug mom and dad for cash for a change. ... just a thought.

Santa way over did things here, even though our 11-27-04 was supposed to be our gift! SIGH.......why does he do this??? LOL WE went to visit my borther in Destin Florida, and we only got in late last night. My parents had driven to his house from COlorado, so we had a nice mini family reunion. We were only missing my younger brother, who is a starving student in college, and had to work the day after Christmas! LOL

We are back from our 10 days of Magic. It was tough for all of us, leaving the Magic and heading to the office. The kids did laundry all day. We are making a list of all the things that we did not use on this trip so we can pack less stuff for the next one (yea sure).

I know you will be hearing from several more who signed up for this one on board. If it comes even close to the 10 days with DISers, it will be a great trip.

Cajun, one thing that I packed on our 6/5/04 cruise was socks for everyone for 10 days (our total vacation time). We MAYBE each wore one pair. The rest of the time was spent in flip-flops or sandals. That's one thing I won't overpack next time...

My parents took me on my first cruise when I was 7... and I still appreciate it today... 30 years later- I caught the cruising bug at a very early age, back in the day when children didn't GO on cruises... the 'Kids Program' was that you left your kids at home!!!!!

(See related thread on behavior contracts... my parents only words to us at the dining table were, "Look around you... all these other people left their kids HOME!... so they don't want to hear you..." ... message received loud and clear!)

There are a few lists out there about things to pack which are pretty good. The main thing about clothing is to make a pile of everything you think and you and than take half of it.

Scuba.Mom will be posting once she is finished unpacking from the 10 day and she has some pretty good lists.

First day back to work after the cruise. Thank goodness it is only for one day and then I get 4 off :D

Thought I would take a minute and introduce myself to you all.

I'm Mary (47) and my DH is Mark (37) known on the boards as MarkRG.

This will be our 8th Disney Cruise.

We did a 3 day (as part of land/sea package) back in October 1999.

7 day Eastern in May 2001.

4 day in May 2002

4 day DVC Member Cruise in Feb. 2003

7 day Western in May 2003

10 day Holiday cruise December 2004

4 day DVC Member Cruise scheduled for Sept. 2005

Looking forward to this cruise with its 2 days at CC. We always like to see a new port so looking forward to Casta Maya and our plan for Cozumel is to do the Tulum ruin tour.

We had so much fun with all our DIS friends on the 10 day (many of which have also signed on for this cruise) and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you as well. I'll have to go back and read the thread from the beginning to catch up. Maybe tomorrow when I'm at home.

I cant remember if I posted or not, but we tried late seating with the kids on our 11-27 cruise, and I am telling you it was sooooooooooooooooooooo much better than last year!!!I had 4 kids ages 9,8,5 and 1. The 3 older kids only ate with us twice, the rest of the time they fended for themselves. LOL They had so much fun, and it was nice not to have to rush to get ready every evening. We had some down time, which I just didnt feel we got last year. I would like to start a list of everyones screenname, real name and room number.
