We are at such a crossroads. My husband and I are planning to drive from Toronto to Palm Bay (near Melbourne) leaving this Thursday. With the hurricane, we are not sure if we should still go. I have been checking as many websites as possible to get updates and so far I heard that most of the electricity is out in Palm Bay.
Does anyone have any advice? Should we still go or cancel??
Thanks.

IMO if you are leaving on Thurs. I would still go! I'm sure that Jeanne will have moved on out of the way for you by then! Have lots of fun! :) Go don't let her stop you!:wave2:

Can you check with your hotel about the "power" situation? I agree that weather-wise, it's possible it will be beautiful by then. But if you have no electricity, that's another story !
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I live in Melbourne FL.
Today the weather is just beautiful. Absolutely clear blue skies. However, power is still out for much of the county. I spoke to a friend of mine in Palm Bay this morning who still does not have power. During Frances, they lost power for 11 days, but it's hard to say how long this power outage is going to be. For example, during Frances we lost power for three days, but during Jeanne, only for nine hours.
The other difficulty is that there is still a lot of debris around and many traffic lights are out so the driving is a little challenging at the moment.
If you are driving, you have a lot of flexibility. I would wait until you know that there is power in the location you're going to before leaving.
If you haven't already found it, www.floridatoday.com is the best site for you to check. Florida Today is our local newspaper. There are community forums there where people post what is going on in their neighborhood so you could check "Palm Bay". Also you can click on "South Brevard" to see the latest Emergency Operations Center etc announcements for that area. (Palm Bay is in South Brevard.)
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Still haven't heard if the condo in Palm Bay has power. At this point we are still going and hoping for the best! :)
