Is a Princess Dress Recommended?

We are going to Disney in April and I will be making a reservation for either the Cinderella breakfast or the one in EPCOT in Norway. In some of the posts and some of the photos the girls are wearing princess dresses. Is this a common thing? Do most of the little girls wear princess dresses to the character breakfasts with Cinderella? I don't want my little girl to feel left out, though I will probably have to find a used one somewhere.
What do you think - do the majority of little princesses wear a princess dress?::MinnieMo

During our breakfast I only saw about 3 little girls all dressed up.

Also I would recommend if she wants to dress up to bring a set of clothes for her to change into after breakfast

We have been to CRT once this past spring. You do see girls with princess dresses on but when we were there most girls had on normal clothing.

I have always brought DD4 a princess dress to WDW but have never pur it on her. She has never shown much intrest in wearing it into the parks. I think unless you bring a change of clothes I would not recomend it. Those dresses are not the best thing to spend a day at a theme park in. I am always surprised there are not more girls wearing the princess dresses. I guess most people feel they are not very practical for walking through a crowded park all day and getting on and off rides. I personally would not want to wear a dress there.

If your daughter is old enough maybe she could make the choice based on how much it means to her. My daughter was so preoccupied with all that was going on in the castle she could have cared less what other girls were wearing!!

We've done it once with our daughter....and that was enough!!!!;) It made for some great pictures, but it was a bit inconvenient to have to change her out of the dress, then put it in a locker, etc. Since that time, if she has a comfortable dress with the princesses on it or shirt/short outfit with same, I'll encourage her to wear that. I don't know how many years we have left of "princesses" as my daughter's interest in princess motif stuff is waning.:( These years go by so quickly, I think you ought to try it just for one time.

We didnt do any princess meals when we were there the last time. I had gotten my little girl the easter dress available from the disney store. She wore it to the parks 2 times and it was cute to see her in it. It is a lightweight dress and sleevless. Some of the CM called her a little princess when she worse it. She was too young to say that she wanted the full coustume princess outfit but i think the next time we go she is going to tell me exactly what she wants.

I would ask DD what she wants to do. We went last fall & DD wanted to wear a Belle dress. They had them @ The Disney Store for $35, but I told her to wait & we'd get it @ Downtown Disney. When we went to buy it, with all the little extras, it was going to be around $100. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that. When we went to the breakfast, there was a little girl there wearing "the dress". DD just stood there and stared @ her. I could tell that it made her really sad that she didn't have on a dress. When we go to the PSB in EPCOT next month, she is going to have either her Belle dress or a Jasmine costume. I'm taking 2, but we are also going to MNSSHP.

I've been to numerous princess CB's, and have only seen at most a handful dressed up at each.

Frankly those costumes get uncomfortable and scratchy by the middle of the day, and you need to either plan on a hot and possibly miserable child, or taking a change of clothes and then lugging a pile of tulle around with you.

My advice is put her in a pretty outfit with pictures of princesses on it, and maybe have her wear a tiara, much easier to stash that away after the breakfast.

Since you aren't going until April, check the Disney store after Halloween. I have gotten lots of costumes after Halloween really cheap. They start out at 25% off, then go to 50%, and then to 75%.

I'd say it was about 50/50 when we were at PSB. My dd's liked doing it, and even the older one (8) wants to do it again when we go in October. I figure they outgrow it soon enough, enjoy it while it lasts. But the tiara idea is cute too, if you don't want the bother.

I put t-shirts/shorts undet the costumes and just slipped the dresses off after the breakfast. We had a stroller, so it made it easy to stash the costumes in a bag in the stroller bin.

Check out disney store online, stuff is already on sale and will probably keep coming down in price.

My DD5 and DS4 are going to wear a Prince and Princess costume to CRT in Dec. My DF is then going to meet my DH at the gate to take the costumes back to the hotel. (Isn't he generous?) My parents aren't going into the parks much.

I bought the costumes for them for Halloween and figured it wouldn't hurt to bring them for them to wear to CRT. They will only be 5 and 4 for such a short time and they will be great photos to show when they are 24 and 25!! LOL!!

That's the same thing we're planning on doing next week. DD6 will be Cinderella and DS3 is going to be Prince Charming. They look precious in their costumes! Unfortunately, Paw Paw isn't coming with us this time, so we'll be stashing the costumes in a locker. I'd be too scared to store them under the stroller. With kids climbing in and out all day, not to mention the cooler, our stroller has seen much better days and gets pretty nasty by the end of the day at Disney. I think this trip will actually be it's last trip, but we've definitely got our money's worth out of it.

If whe does wear the costume, you can always rent a locker & store it in there. That's what we'll probably do.

We did the PSB breakfast this July. My 2 DDs(2 & 5) wore matching jumpers from the Disney Store. They were pick and colorful....really cute. The had the "princesses" embroidered on the front. I wish I knew how to post a picture.

Anyway, there were a few little girls dressed up, but mostly not. My girls were happy to wear their dresses. I did get them tulle tiaras(Dollar Tree, Claires), fabric rings with bow and tulle veil.

I surprised my DD 4 with breakfast in the castle. I had brought her Cinderella dress & shoes. She wore it & thank god I brought it. It was the best morning ever. She wouldn't take it off in the park even though I took clothes. She got more attention in that dress. We were there when Toontown opened ran into Cinderella outside the store they are in Cinderella took her by the hand led her into the room & we had pictures she was the only one in there. It was the best day of her life.

We are surprised her in Dec. with a trip for her birthday I am taking her dress we are doing dinner at 1900 Park Fare.

my dd simply wore her tiara to crt! she debated between buying the silver light up tiara and the sun visor that looks like a tiara... she went w/the silver and i think she regretted it... the other is far more practical!

we saw only one child in princess garb when we were at both crt and psb!

It depends on the ages of your children. Our 9-year old daughter is shy about wearing princess dress outside home. Our 5-year old loves to be in princess costume all the time. She is going to be a Cinderella this Holloween. When we went to Princess Storybook breakfast at Epcot in July, the second daughter dressed like Snow White and the first one came with shorts and shirt. We saw almost all little girls came in some princess costume.

My niece wore her Jasmine costume to the PSB and LOVED it. She wouldn't even take off the wig most of the day. I was so glad we got it for her. I thought Jasmine was the perfect princess (glad that's the one she wanted, but she could have had any of them as far as I was concerned - I had budgeted over $100.00 for the purchase). The Jasmine costume was pants and a shirt, slippers (real slippers, not plastic shoes) and a wig.

I did she little girls in the princess tiaras and they were awfully cute. I think dressing up in any way would be special for a little one. When we took Darling Niece to Disney Princesses on Ice we didn't have a princess costume so she wore a $10 dress and hat from Ross with $3 gloves from WalMart. She LOVED the outfit and felt special, which I think is what it's all about.

We have been to CRT at least 4 times and my girls have never worn a costume. Too much trouble if you ask me. Besides that they are hot and itchy. They wear traditional park wear.

The Disney Store has ALL halloween stuff 25% off this weekend. Bought Esmerelda, Snow White, 2 sets of shoes, tiara, couple of t shirts plush toys all for $118! The first time we went I didn't even think to bring the princess costumes (before I found these boards). DD wanted to bring one but I told her that it was just the commercial, kids wouldn't really be wearing them. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Of course I had to buy her one when we were there, now I bring tons of them. I would wait until after Halloween and see what's on sale then. Any princess would do - just see what's the biggest bargain.

We do the Halloween thing too. My girls are princess crazy. I was able to get their costumes for this year for about 20 bucks with sales and coupons at the Disney store.com. Then they bring them with us on the trip. This year we are doing PSB (did CRT, food not great). I bring the costumes and the girls and put it on over their clothes and after the breakfast they take them off.

Then they use them for dress up at home, so at least I get my money's woth.

My DD (almost 3) and I did PSB and Cinderella's Gala Feast on our recent trip. She wore her dress to PSB but then changed not long afterwards - she wanted to play in the water jets and I explained it wouldn't be much fun with all that fabric hanging on her - or words to that effect. :) I was able to stuff the dress and petticoat into her backpack that we took with us daily to hold extra clothes, snacks, etc. It stayed on her stroller and wasn't any problem to keep with us until we were ready to return to our room for a rest.

At PSB, I'd say that the ratio of girls in costume to those not was 1 in 3 or 1 in 4. I didn't see any girls not in costume who seemed really upset that they weren't. Here she is before we were seated:

She also wore a gown to Cinderella's Gala Feast - the one she has on in my sig. It seemed like there were more girls wearing princess costumes for that but that could be because it was the end of the day so the parents didn't have to worry about carrying a change of clothing.

My DD loved wearing hers but I made sure they did not itch. The bodices of both are lined with a soft cotton fabric and any seams that had netting in them were "encased" in the softer fabric. She did not complain when wearing either dress and probably would have worn them longer but I was concerned about the heat. She did not wear "princess shoes" though - just the sandals we'd brought for her to wear with any other oufit.

BTW - We saw a few girls each day who must have worn their dresses the whole day. Most had on very lighweight ones such as the Disney Stores sell.

I bought the Ariel dress for DDs 5th bday (9/21) and Sleeping Beauty's dress for DD's 8th bday (which will be while we're in Disney). I'm planning on having them wear them our first night at WDW when we have dinner at 1900 Park Fare. I doubt we'll wear them in the parks-too much of a pain, plus I'd imagine they'd be somewhat uncomfortable to wear for the day.

I also bought the dresses online for around $23. each with a variety of discounts.

My niece is five and Princess crazy, she wants to bring ALL her Princess dresses to Disney! Cinderella, Jasmine, Belle and Ariel! I think my sister wants to throttle me for even mentioning it to my niece (I told her I called and talked to Cinderella and Belle and they both said they said to be sure to bring them!) , but since we are going to Cinderella's Royal Feast at GF and the Princess Breakfast in Norway, I thought a Princess dress or two was needed!

Plus I'm just the trouble making Aunt who doesn't have to pack them! LOL!

Maybe you can find a Cinderella t-shirt. Even if you bring a change of clothes you have to find a place for the dress. My DD has a cinderella everyday dress and she wants to wear that. I think that would be doable at the parks with tennis shoes.

If, by chance, Belle isn't at the breakfast, you could take your DD to Belle's story time near the castle. That's what we're doing since we couldn't get a breakfast reservation and my DD has a Belle dress, too.
