Jenn,

Have you been on Disney before. If not, you'll love it and your children will have a fantastic time. I did Disney last year, this past August and booked for 8/28/05 while on board. Not trying to rush my life away, but can't wait to do Disney again.

Out of the 8 of us going 4 of us have gone before. I went on my honeymoon on a dis cruise, just 4 nites. Then 2 years ago grandma (my mom) surprised us with the 7 day in a cat 3. Now that was FUN.

We're going too!!! My name is Jennifer and I'll be traveling with DH, Billy and our 3 DD ages 5, 8 and 15 (then). This will be our first cruise. I'm so happy to see this thread!

I have to say, based on this summer's hurricane activity, I am freaking out a little bit about next year!! Hopefully it will be better next summer! I would hate to miss CC, but if we do we'll try to make the best of it - I know it's always the risk you take cruising during hurricane season.

We'll be spending several days at Universal and WDW before the cruise too.

cepmom,

Good to see someone else will be on the ship with us. We to will be at WDW before hand (5 nights) with 2 more people. So at WDW my group is 10 on the cruise we have 8 and it may even get bigger. Can't wait, already trying to design my door signs.

cepmom,
Welcome aboard. I'm going with my DS age 19, DD age 17 and my mom 87. We've done cruises in August for the past 9 years and never ran into a hurricane. The last cruise (8/19/04) that we did was right after Charley and before Frances. Guess we lucked out. We will also be spending the week before the cruise at WDW.:Pinkbounc Hopefully more people will join us.:)

mickeymom923 -

how do your teens like the teen club? My DD15 thinks there will be nothing to do that interests her (it was her idea to cruise in the 1st place  ) She is a little shy and reserved until she gets familiar. I think the other two will be fine in the kids clubs - I just hope DD15 will be able to have fun despite her pessimistic attitude!

Where are you all staying before the cruise? I still haven't decided where to stay at WDW; I am pretty sure we'll be staying on site at Universal for 1 night in order to get the front of the line access. Last time we stayed at WL, but now with 5 of us, there are less options.

cruisedis05 -

sounds like a lot of fun traveling with so many other people! I have been trying to convince my Mom to come to WDW and bring my niece and nephew, but so far no luck. Nobody else in my family is a Disney freak like me, so I know they would never even consider staying on site (prices too high for them) or going on a Disney cruise (why pay so much when you can go Royal Carribean for less?) They just don't understand!!!!

mickeymom923
09-19-2004, 03:52 PM
My teens loved the teen club but most of all the Disney Cruise. My son who is 18 wanted to go on this last cruise for his HS graduation instead of going on a 7 day Carnival cruise. My son mostly played basketball and hung out with other teens. My daughter who will be 17 on 9/26 also loved the teen club and just being on this cruise. She is also initially very shy and I forced her to go to the teen club the first night. She met a very nice boy there and they hung out together after dinner every night. They still IM each other and she had a great time. She enjoyed going to all the shows each night and she enjoyed seeing all the Princess characters. I am the biggest kid of all and loved the food, the shows, the characters, being with my family and doing the Disney Cruise. cepmom, if your daughter has any questions, she can email my daughter Lindsay at Lilgchottie926@aol.com

I own a timeshare so I will exchange and stay in Lake Buena Vista the week before.

Sorry to say that I transferred my '8/28/05 reservation to the special Western sailing on the Magic for 8/19/06 so I won't be going with you. I always wanted to do the 7 day Disney cruise and this one goes to Castaway Cay twice. I'm really excited and it gives me an extra year to save. Hope you have a great cruise and maybe you might want to join us in 06.

we'll be arriving on the 24th! I am so excited about staying at the Poly...we were originally booked at POR, but thanks to DH's crazy uncle's very generous Xmas gift, we decided to upgrade and are now booked at Poly!!

Do you have just the one DS going with you? My DD15 is looking to "meet" some other teens beforehand so she can hang out with someone on the ship.

kaceyisme
02-03-2005, 07:49 AM
cepmom - Yes, my DS is my only one. He also would love to meet up with someone prior to the cruise so that he will "know" someone to hang out with. He will be two months shy of his 13th birthday when we cruise. Maybe we can arrange to meet anyway at the Poly prior to the cruise so that we all "know someone" :earsboy:

How funny that we're all staying at Poly before the cruise! We'll definately have to meet up there. Have any of you ever stayed at Polynesian before? My kids convinced me to stay there - I wanted Beach Club, but now I am so excited to stay at Poly. Are all of you renting cars to get to the port?

Pengy
02-04-2005, 05:52 AM
We've stayed at the Polynesian 3 times (Jen and I in 2001; all 4 of us 2002, when it rained like 8 of 9 days :umbrella: ; and Jen and I before our first cruise in 2004). All of our prior visits were in November / December, so August will be a new experience! It's definitely a great resort!

We're unsure about transportatin from the resort to port at this point, but we'll probably rent a car and return it at Canaveral. We did the Disney Transportation in November and it was nice, but you really lose a lot of the first day on the ship (I think we boarded around 2:00 or 2:30).

We have stayed at the Poly once. We usually stay at the Contemporary, but it's our anniversary so we wanted something a little more romantic (as if it could be with our 12 DS along, lol).

So, we definitely have to arrange to meet, since there are a bunch of us! How fun!!

And check it out - we're under the 200 day mark!! :earseek:

Hey, we are going to. There will be me my DH, DD who will be 5 and DD who will be 9. It is my youngest's first cruise. We are going down 3 days early and staying at Ron Jon's Resort in Coco Beach. We got a really good deal for touring the resort for 90 minutes and couldn't pass it up. I dont think that we are doing the parks this year, looking at Space Center and beach and so forth instead. Have been to Nassau twice. Really liked the first time and kinda of scared of just this January so dont think will take kids very far into port. Will probably just walk a little downtown, if that. ReaLLY looking forward to Castaway Cay, was just in Half Moon Cay with Holland and it was to die for. We booked a Cat 12 but are an automatic guarantee to higher category because we have 4 people so dont know where we will end up on the ship. We were docked next to Wonder in Nassau and kids onboard looked like they were having a blast!
We are from Pittsburgh PA :cheer2:

Pinklet - my son will be almost 13 when we sail, so he will still be in the Lab, not the Teen Club. I have been hoping to find a boy of similar age as he is (he will be 12 and 10 months when we sail). He is also nervous about being in the club without knowing anyone. Hi
My husband is taking me on a cruise to celebrate my 40th birthday in August. It will be me, DH, twin baby boys (1), our aupair, my brother, his DW, DD (6) and DS (8). I haven't booked yet, b/c we are trying to decide between this cruise (I just found some decent rates) or a 5 day on Carnival out of Miami.

DH and I really want to do a Disney cruise, but the idea of driving 4 hours from Miami there and back, makes me hesitate a bit, as does the lower type of stateroom. However, the idea that Carnival may be too crowded, wild or tacky (no offense meant) makes me hesitate over that.

What is everyone's opinion? :confused3

Well, we are going now and have had a bit of luck getting 2 balcony rooms at a wonderful price through *************.com. It's now my DH and twin sons (1), my brother, SIL and their kids (6 & 8), my sister and mother. It should be a wonderful trip. We are even spending a few days at WDW before the cruise. We will be staying at POR. It's turning into a very nice little vacation!

I'd be happy to meet others as well, but I've never cruised with Disney before, so I don't have any suggestions either. One thing I did do (after getting the idea from this board), was to get magnetic frames for our room doors. They have different Disney characters on them, and the one for my door is in lime green! I ordered it from someone (very inexpensively) off of eBay.

I can't wait!

Just checking in. :wave2: For a cruise that is less than 3 months away no one is going. I've been on the cruise twice before. When we went last time some people met the first afternoon. Late afternoon around 4pm I think. And if I remember right we met outside the ESPN bar ( I think it's called something different now) on the top deck. And everyone had something lime green on or with them so we knew who to look for. Hope this helps, let me know if someone is going to set something up.
I can't wait!!!!

Ok I'm think of this; please let me know if someone else has something.

Boat drill is at 4pm, everything is closed until 4:30pm so I think we should meet at about 5pm deck 10 midship starboard side. I looked at other post from other sailing dates and this is what afew are doing. I do think we should all have something the same. Like a colored ribbon on something so we can id us. I also wanted to know if anyone has gotten anything for pirats night. Because I was going to get stuff online but it comes in bulk so I thought we could split it if anyone wants to.
Please let me know about everything.

That sounds like a good idea. We could meet for the sailaway party. Some lime green ribbons or mickey heads from Home Depot would be a good way to go.

What website were you looking at for the pirate stuff? Oriental Trading? Let me know what you're thinking of, and I'll check out the site too.

I looked at some other post and some said that meeting during the party may be hard. Some meet at about 3pm before all the noise and party. So that sounded good to me. So someone let me know if 3pm is better and if this is what everyone wants. I am also going to order pirate stuff from Oriental Trading. I plan on ordering swords that come with an eye patch, pirate bandanas , tatoos and clip on earrings. pirate:

Hi, we are so excited about going on our first cruise. We are starting off in WDW on the 25th, setting sail with you guys on the 28th and then heading back to WDW on the 1st. We are from Ontario, Canada, so we will be pulling back in the driveway hours before school starts!

My DD is 11 and my DS is 9.

I was just looking through another area of these chats and someone wrote in that they have changed the dresscodes for dinners on Wonder. They said that it is all casual now and you don't need to dress up.

I was just wondering if any of you have heard about this, 'cause man, will packing for my 9 year old son be easier if I don't have to worry about his "attire" quite as much. It seems that it costs just about as much to prepare to go on the cruise as does go on the cruise itself! I would much rather spend money on Disney t-shirts than a dress shirt that he is never going to wear again.

I'm planning on dressing "casual" for all of the dinners. My husband and son will wear "Dockers" type pants with polo style shirts or "hawaiian" style shirts. I'm going to wear casual skirts or capris. I wouldn't worry too much about dressing up.

Hi all,

We are one day closer, now! I was just wondering if some of you veteren cruisers with children could advise me on motion sickness. My 11 and 9 year old have never been prone to it on any other form of transportation, but we have never cruised before. I looked into the seabands and they are very expensive. Do you use these, or bring "just incase" medication, or do I even have to worry about it? I have heard that the Disney ships are exteemly smooth.

What do you think?
Thanks

On our last cruise my DD was 9 and DD was 1. We never had a problem. My older DD was on a cruise when she was 4 and never had a problem then either. I do think we had some just incase. But I think I read some place on these lovely boards  that they have it at the door of the medical area on board.

Is it too late to join the thread?! Believe it or not, it just occurred to me to look for a group thread, and I booked this cruise in January 2004! But I just joined the DIS in May... :goodvibes

My dh and I have cruised RCCL twice before, but this is the first cruise for our DS7. We are getting so excited! I just filled in my August calendar, and we put Disney stickers on all the days of our vacation.

I already have Mickey paint heads in just about every color...

I've booked our Palo, rasul and parasailing (dh only!) reservations. We did online registration for the kids' club. I'm gathering everything I can think of in a bin. I'm probably going to forget something, but I don't care. I just want to go! :Pinkbounc

I just got off the phone with Guest Services, and she told me our tickets and stuff were being processed today. She said they would be in the mail tomorrow, so being from Ontario, Canada, we should get them next week. I can't wait.

3 weeks today we will be starting our Land/Sea in WDW.

Oh, by the way, I also asked her about this new "Casual Cruise" dresscode. She assured me that my 9 year old son would be just fine in nice shorts and a polo style shirt for the dinning rooms. Just incase that helps anyone else out.

I also asked her about the hurricane situation. She said unless the port that we depart at is calling for horrid weather, the cruise is a go. She said to go with an open mind incase the ports get changed, but they do all they can to set sail as planned.

Help!!!

Are any of you Canadian Cruisers?

I was just looking around these threads and someone has posted that Canadians absolutely have to have passports to board the ship.

I have talked to Disney about this many times and they have assured me that Photo ID and Birth Certificates are all I need (they are all we have).

This other thread says that it is up to the traveller to have all their ID in order and not Disney's responisbility to ensure the traveller has the right stuff.

We are leaving for Florida in 18 days. I have my cruise tickets, and I do not have enough time to get a passport now for the 4 of us.

I have called DCL, and they have assured me that the ID we have is all we need. DH and I also combed throught the booklet we got with our doc's and we both have come to the conclusion that it is either passport or photo ID, birth cert.

And to top it off, I just got back from the dentist office (still frozen as I am writing to you), and he just went on the 4 day Wonder cruise with his family in March, and he told me no one in his party had passports, they had no problems bringing the exact same ID we are using.

Anyon'e kids going to the Lab?? All of a sudden (in the last couple of months) DD8 has been having anxiety about going places when she doesn't know anyone. (was afraid to go to camp, swimming, gymnastics etc because she didn't know the kids in her group) She literally can't walk over and join the group without my being right on her side. Now that she has turned 8, she will be in another age group than her sister (DD5) and she is stressing about being in the Lab and DD5 being in the Club. I though that maybe if she met some other kids her age at the meet, she would feel a little better. Otherwise, I might have to see if Disney will let me put her in the Club with DD5.

I do the same thing -- Every day my ds7 asks how many days, and we are counting them down! This morning as I was walking around my office, I was thinking in 2 weeks I'll be riding Space Mountain. Woohoo! :cloud9:

I'm sorry my ds will be in the Club with your little one instead of the Lab with your older child... but he will be very excited to meet her, as an only he's always looking to make new friends.

haven't started packing yet ~ still wearing most everything we need to bring!!!
I have a Rubbermaid tote in the closet upstairs filled with junk I am bringing and none of it is clothes either!!

I borrowed my Mom's luggage and it's upstairs waiting to be filled....I am a notorious overpacker so I figured if I don't start too soon, I won't get carried away!!

Hi Guys,
Well, I wouldn't say that I am packed, but I have written down everything (and I mean everything) on a gazillion lists. I did a wack of ironing last night and instructed the children not to wear any of those clothes again, until we are away! I am so obsessed with this trip, I have left next week completely open, so I can concentrate fully on getting ready.
My DS is 8 and my DD is 11. They are going to be in separate groups for the lab, and I don't know how they are going to do with that. They are very excited, but I know they would rather be together. I am not expecting them to spend much time in the labs, I am anxious to spend time as a family, anyway. We'll see...

I have a DD 11. She has done this stuff before. We should make sure they meet. Jessica, my DD, would also like to meet some kids before hand. As for your DS I don't have anyone traveling with us in that age group. But I'm sure he'll meet someone and have fun.

I know -- isn't it so hard to plan this trip when we are all wearing everything we need to bring with us! We need to pack for 11 days, and I don't want to do any laundry on the trip, so we really need to pack everything!! It's good to know that we are all in this together - the insanity!! It brings a smile to my face reading everyone's posts about how obsessed they are, etc. about this trip! I am exactly the same way - I can't think about anything else! Next week at work will be unbearable!!

I made a list, but haven't started packing yet. I made the mistake of putting snacks on the list twice, my DD caught it and she was laughing at me!

I still have a ton of things to do before leaving next Wednesday (driving 24 hrs from Toronto), top on the list is laundry, than it is mowing the lawn, buying all the snacks we need for the long drive, pre-celebrate my DM's birthday with the rest of the family (her real birthday will be when we are on the cruise), looks like the last thing to do is to pack our luggage and triple check to make sure we have all the travel documents. :Pinkbounc

In a previous post I stated I have extra pirate pirate: stuff if anyone wanted to buy. But I was told I'm not allowed to sell anything on here. So I'm just going to give it to anyone who wants. I know kaceyisme wanted a set ( sword, patch, tattoo, earring, & bandana) So I have 7 sets left if anyone wants. Just let me know.

We've started packing some things that we won't need between now and the trip, and figuring out what clothes we can set aside now for the trip. And things like camera, camcorder, beach towel for each, etc.

Maybe we'll turn the trip into a "relocation research" excursion too, perhaps Mickey's hiring!! ::MickeyMo

Since this is my first Disney cruise, could someone explain, Pirates Night for me. I have my docs, starting to pack, we are bringing four suit cases, two for the cruise and two for are post cruise stay at Disney. I am flying in a day early, staying at the Hampton Inn. The Hampton Inn will store the suitcases for a few days, so we will only have to bring two onboard.

Looking foward to meeting everone. Does anyone have the second seating for dinner.

It's our first cruise too! Pirate night starts out at dinner where there is a themed menu. The servers are dressed in pirate costume as well, and they give out bandanas, etc. for us to wear. Some people get dressed up as well. The evening continues after dinner on deck, where they will have a Pirate themed deck party, and a late evening dessert buffet.

We have early seating for dinner, but I understand that the deck party starts after the late seating dinner ends.

Hope this helps!

Hey, SnoopyandPooh,

You are from Markham? We are from London. Are you leaving on Wednesday the 24th? That is the day we are leaving. Are you driving straight through? We are, it takes us 22 hours on the I-75. We leave here late afternoon and arrive in time for dinner at WDW the next day. Are you doing Land/Sea?
I was trying to figure out how to do this privately, sorry to bunk up everyone elses's message board.
By the way, is anyone else going to spontaneuosly combust from the excitement????

Yes, I get them done at, I think, Tippy Toes. On Spotwood/Englishtown Rd. I only get them done when I'm going some place special. And I believe this is special!!

I can't believe we leave for our trip in 5 days, really, almost 4 now! Hey, have any of you looked for or found chewable dramamine? I'd love to find something like that for my ds, just in case. The local pharmacy was a bust...just wondering if they make it.

I cut out my lime green Mickeys tonight. I haven't decided what I'm going to write on them yet. Also thinking about doing a door sign, but probably won't get to it at this point. I always have lots of plans, but I never get to everything on my list! We'll see how tomorrow goes...

Just got back today from WDW my other grandson 7, spent a few days at water parks and MGM. This trip was due to lousy weather we had in April. Great new stunt show at MGM, be sure to see it.

Speaking of packing, on rccl i would bring a sports jacket or two. From what i have read I think i will leave the sport jacket in the closet. Am I making a mistake.

Hope all is well, have a safe and fun trip.

I would leave the sports jacket at home. My husband is wearing khaki's and collared polo shirts for dinner every night, and my DS12 is wearing "hawaiian style" shirts with khaki's.

I just wanted to say goodbye and see you soon to everyone! We are leaving in the morning for the WDW portion of our trip! I actually am all packed and ready to go. We went to Target this afternoon and bought a scale to weigh all of our suitcases. They are so strict about the weight requirements these days on the airlines, and I was sooo worried about being overweight on the bags. Luckily, we came in under the 50 lb. limit for each bag (just barely :rotfl: ).

I can't wait to meet all of you!! See you next Sunday at our 3:00 Dis meet :Pinkbounc

Just looked-up reservation on-line and found out that we've been moved to main (early) dinner seating! We've been on the wait-list since we originally booked the cruise. hey there ~ I found chewable Dramamine last night at Walgreens. I bought a box for the younger girls (5 and 8) just in case they need it. I always get Bonine for myself (non-drowsy). My pediatrician told me not to give Bonine (meclizine) to the girls ~ just the regular Dramamine. I'm actually going to give them some today just to make sure it doesn't have any adverse side effects.
