Got my new Delta tickets in the mail today.......it is just a piece of paper that says its an e-ticket receipt. It lists the flights and says to bring it with you and ID to check in. A few months back, i got the standard 'ticket' sent to me, the one that looks like a computer card(?), strange thats its now just a piece of paper, are they getting cheap now or what?? Im keeping my old ones with me when i check in just in case!!

Nope they are not getting cheap. You need to request regular tickets if you want somthing other than an eticket. I prefer etickets because 1. you can get your boarding pass at the curb when you check your luggage in with the skycap (cannot do this with hard tickets), 2. If you loose the eticket, no biggie at all, just show them your id and you are good to go (loose a hard ticket and see what gyrations you will need to go through).
These are just two of the reasons. But, to each their own.

fyi...last December I had hard tickets with Delta and did, indeed, check my luggage at the curb with the skycap, which I think is so convenient by the way...
This time, we are doing e-tickets since they charge $10 for the hard tickets.

E tickets are the best! Lost my Delta tix last fall and had to pay a $70 per tix fine for each re-ticket (x3). Eventually, Delta refunded $140 - not worth the paper its written on...............

Did not mean to imply that you could check your luggage curbside with paper tickets as versus etickets( you can curb your luggage with any ticket media), what I SAID was you could not get your boarding pass from the skycap with hard tickets, and that you can with etickets. I learned that one that hard way. No more hard tickets for me. :)

I think it depends on the airport, some airports I've gotten my boarding pass by the skycap and others I've had to go to the desk at the gate.
I booked a flight for seven of us through Delta's website, I booked one group of 4 and a group of 3. The group of 4 received paper tickets and the group of 3 got e-tickets.

When I book my tickets for Orlando last October from Delta I received E-tickets that looked like a normal ticket.
However, earlier this month I booked a trip to Charlotte for Thanksgiving and received E-tickets that were just a sheet of paper for each traveler.
I am sure it is more cost effective.

We have been flying Southwest and other carriers with E-tickets for so long, that I don't really recall much about them... I think we had a small paper, old computer card size ticket on Delta, back in '94. I think all of the carriers will be using e's within the next couple of years. I don't think there is much of a difference. Who knows, WDW may be going to finger scans at some point too!:)

E-tkts are much easier for the carrier when it comes to paper work and closing out of the flights at the end of the boarding session. many people alos lose their paper tkts too and this will and has cut down on that as well. and yes in the long run the carriers have saved some money by using the e-tkts but its more in the line of convenience. the only time I would sugest paper tkts is when its an extremely bad weather time and the possiblities of you having to use a different carrier are high. this way you just need them endorsed over to the other carrier.

I agree with Gail, E-tickets are the best, I knew if you lost one all you need is your ID and you're good to go but I did not know that I could get my boarding ticket at the curbside, that's a plus as far as I'm concerned. That's why I love to read these boards, always learn something new! Thanks for the info.

msr709, The information I gave for curbside, eticket boarding passes was for Delta.
Not sure how other airlines handle this. I do know that you can curb your baggage for SWA, but you won't get a boarding pass until you get to the gate counter. :)

msr709,
LOL, same here. I have 55 days, 16 hours, and 4 mins.
Are you planning to curb your luggage and walk to the plane unencumbered?
Only way to go, IMHO. :)

We are staying in 3 resorts this time!!! This will be our first time switching resorts as well. Starting at Grand Floridian for the first time, then to Wilderness lodge for a return visit, and since my wife is now taking her other week of vacation as well, we decided to stay 2 more days and stay in a 1 bedroom at the Boardwalk Villas. Cant wait to try that one!! Im glad its last, because i dont think we will be able to go back to a regular room from what ive been told after a 1 bedroom stay!! From now......50 days, 4 hours and 7 mins until we leave!!

Oh, you will definitely NOT want a regular room after a one bedroom. They are really nice.
We tried a studio last visit to OKW, and while it was a GREAT room, it was not the one bedroom. The whirlpool is going to feel wonderful after a day at the parks.
54days, 12 hours and 47 mins. :)

As I understand it, the paper ticket has a big advantage if your flight is cancelled or delayed. You can call the airline and get placed on another carrier, without having to go through the line at your original carrier--which you would have to do if you have an e-ticket. Has anybody actually gone through this, and can you explain it better?
GAIL HAYDEN

I cannot explain it any better than you, but, eticket would be a disadvantage in this situation, but, considering the advantages to an eticket over a paper one, I will take the gamble everytime.

Well, I don't know. I've never lost my paper ticket (knock on wood), but my flights have been cancelled or significantly delayed several times. I suspect most people have a similar experience.

We just got our Delta etickets as well. Actually I am glad you said what they were...I just glanced at the sheet and thought it more as a reciept than a ticket. Good thing you guys gave me the heads up....I had just placed the envie in my junk box (it takes at least 30-45 minutes or me to find anything in there)! SO now it is in my trip box...everything is very well organized in that one.

Never had a flight delayed or cancelled, which is pretty darn good IMHO since I go to Florida at least 2x's a year and other places too. Guess I have been lucky, knock on wood.
