I've been reading on the DIS recently about folks who make their own autograph books and thought I'd give it a try. I picked up this little photo album that holds 24 4x6 photos. It has hard cardboard covers and uses a cord to hold the album together. It has wooden beads that spell photo, but I want to switch them out. I want an album for our pending trip, but thought perhaps I could be successful selling something like this on ebay.

I'd would cover the front and back covers with fabric, switch out the beads on the cording to say Princess or Vacation or Disney, etc. to match the fabric. Then I want to add blank card stock for collecting autographs, or that could be used to create scrapbook style pages. I could punch holes and put them between the pages or cut them to fit in the photo slots. I want create a title page with Event and Date plus have clipart to match the fabric. For the last page I was thinking of a blank check list for the user to list the characters they want to get autographs from.

How much would you be willing to spend on a custom photo album/autograph book? I was thinking $7, but I haven't priced out the materials yet to complete a book. Maybe I can put a sample together on Monday and post a pic.

i made my own autograph book....i got blank notecards and had kids pick out which stickers and scrapbook paper background they wanted (I made a front and back cover)...i then took all this to Staples and had them laminate the covers and spiral bind the notecards...it cost me less than $10 for 3 books :) the laminating was $1.98 for 2 8.5x11 sheets which was plenty for all 6 covers...the spiral binding (which is available in several colors) is only $1.09 to $1.49 each book for up to an inch thick! my kids liked getting to personalize their own book...

also the click (capless) permanent markers are $3.98 for a set of 4 (blk, blue, red, green) by Marks-A-Lot at Walmart

hope this helps....

Thanks for your input txaggie94gigem. I didn't know Staples was so inexpensive for binding and laminating.

I was thinking about "making" a autograph book too. They have great ideas on this boards but I am totally unfamiliar with certain terms. What exactly is "card stock" and how to do you give these to characters to sign? Are they sort of like recipe cards? If so, how do you keep these together at the parks. Please forgive me if these are stupid questions:rolleyes: I am totally craft challenged!

Cardstock is just thicker paper. It should be the same thickness as Recipe cards (have cardstock, no recipe cards...) It comes in over oh 100+ colors and is usually anywhere from 10-50 cents a sheet (depends on thickness)- You can get it at any copy store (Kinkos, OfficeMax etc) with limited colors pr search out a scrapbook store for a huge color palate

I would definetly recommend having it bound or have a clip board if you intend to keep it unbound as they characters need a thicker surface to sign on.

As for buying a homemade book- I love the park books and they last me about 2-3 years each and so 6 bucks over 2 years isnt anything (now I just need to finish my current book so I can get a 50th anniversary book next May)

I made my kids' autograph books. I just wanted them to be more unique than the typical autograph books you can buy in every single gift shop at Disney. And because I used thicker paper, the marker never bled through the pages. Worth the extra time and few bucks to do that...and now they have something that is different than everyone else!
