For y'all who are 16 or older, what kind of car do you drive? Do you have your own, or you share one with a sibling/parent? If you'll be getting a new car soon, what do you want (or what are you getting)?

Just felt like posting a random question thread...

hope you're having an awesome summer,

JC

Hey! What about me I'm almost 16! I drive, with my mom in the car. Which means I'm currently driving her van but on my b-day (sept. 19) I get a car. A 2001 blue Pontiac Sunfire.

Well, I'm 16 or over, BUT.......
The driving age in England is 17, and they're raising it to 18 just a month before my 17th birthday    .

Another 2 years of begging lifts off my dad.:(

Well in NJ where I live, the age for getting your license is 17 and they're changing it to 18 next year, so I'm so glad I turned 17 this year! Right now I drive my dad's 94 Honda. My mother has a car too, but she has a minivan, and I've tried driving it before and I will not drive it again!!!

I keep asking my parents for my own car because most of my friends parents already bought their kids cars, but they won't buy one for me. But my dad is looking at new cars, and he said that if he buys a new car, he'll give me his, so hopefully he'll buy a new car soon!

Like ShuisFan584, I also live in New Jersey...but I'm 15. I will get my permit in September, and then with this stupid new law, I won't get my license until I'm 80!! *lol* When I can start driving, I'm going to be using my mom's '96 green Mercury Sable. But then when my sister starts to drive, I have to buy my own car. I'm definitely getting a used car, but I'm not quite sure what kind... That's okay though, I have time :D.

I can't drive yet:I'm only 16. I have to be 18 before I'm allowed to drive (by law). My ideal car would be a pink cadillac! I love them, but somehow I doubt I'll ever get one! I like Fiats and Peugeot 206's also.:smooth:

Um...it just dawned on me that I started the thread, and didn't even say what I drive! lol...

I have a silver '01 PT Cruiser...i ordered it last March, like three weeks after I got my driver's liscence...but it didn't get here until May! I originally wanted a red VW Beetle (turbo), but after a couple test drives, I was kind of like "this isn't for me...". Then, about a week later, I saw the PT for the first time at the dealership and was like, "that's my car."...turned out I was like the third guy at the dealer to order one, but it was worth the wait.

I wish it got better gas mileage (i only have like a 12 gallon tank... ...), and sometimes the 4-banger under the hood is wayyy too slow. I guess it's OK, i've had people call me Mario Andretti...so I guess a slowish car keeps me from having more fun than is legally allowed. :D

I learned to drive on a minivan (from one extreme to the other...oy, vey...) and from when I got my liscence about a year and 4 months ago to when I got the cruiser, I drove a red 94 Jeep Cherokee. I kind of miss the 4.0L V6...*sighh*...lol.

Hey Joe Cool, hows the cruiser! It looks sooo cool! I don't have a car yet, cuz I still have my temps. But once I get my license in January(hopefully!lol!) I really wanna get a silver cabrio! Bad in the Wisconsin winter, but great in the summer!

Hey natty,

Cool! Hey for those Wisconsin winters, an Audi TT convertible with Quattro would be just the thing...if ya only need two seats! :) My cousin Jenn has a white '00 cabrio and she loves it. She got the cabrio on a trade-in of her '99 Jetta...the Jetta's engine died, and VW offered to replace it for free...she ended up trading the replacement Jetta for the Cabrio, which has had no problems since! Audis and Volkswagens are both great imports, could have somethin' to do with them being the same company. :)

Oh yea, and in the coulda-shoulda-woulda department, have y'all heard about the new PT Convertible? They're probably going to start selling them in '03, maybe late '02. The concept ragtop version is sweet, with two doors, leather seats, 5-speed stick and an integrated rollbar...I'm waiting for a place around here to get the aftermarket engine supercharging kits, so I can get one installed in my PT 4-door after the warranty expires. Let's see...i put 25,000 miles on it since May 2000, so that should expire the 36,000 mile warranty in...January? Uh-oh. Looks like I need to come up with more $...*rolls eyes*. All part of the package, I guess.

Laterz,

JC

Argh! I'm so jealous!! Everyone else over 16 on here has their own car!! Why can't I?! Hehehe! Oh man... I just saw the Fast & the Furious... oooh that was good stuff! Seeing it makes ya wanna just like go out & drive fast! Hehe, annnnyways... when I get my full license (I have my beginners now so it'll probably be in september or october) I'll be driving my dad's 2000 Intrepid. Well by then it'll be my mom's cuz we're getting a new Jeep Liberty & selling our other Intrepid :( I'm not sure if my parents are planning on buying me a car... I wish they were though!!! That would be sweet! :bounce:

Hey hey,

Great to year from y'all...this thread is growin!

Way cool, Meg...we're replacing the minivan with a new Liberty next year. My mom leased the van because she didn't know if she would like it (we hate it most of the time...it's too big, and the power steering sucks). I love the Liberty...we're good friends with the owner of the local Chrysler dealership, and he let me test drive a new Liberty as soon as they got them in! :D

My dad's way too attached to his red '94 Cherokee...he keeps the thing in perfect condition, although he has beaten the crap out of it taking it on and off road. We got it upgraded in '97, with an engine tune-up and some interior stuff, and it has about 90k miles on it...i think we're going to keep it for 120,000 or something. Dad's gonna get the Liberty after his Jeep dies, and my mom wants an Audi. I'm gonna keep my cruiser as long as I can...even if I'm like old and have a family it'll be like, "this was my first car, from way back in 2001".

Right now my girlfriend's kinda car shopping...she drives a Ford truck right now (Ford...as in Fix Or Repair Daily... ...) but she wants to buy a pre-owned something...her uncle has a transmission shop in Princeton and he always has something cool for sale for a ridicdulously low price...last year I remember he had an '88 vette for something like $5,000...amazing. Talli's parents were kind of spastic about her getting her own car, because of all the insurance headaches. Apparently all people our age are accidents waiting to happen according to insuance companies. Oy, vey.

I'm almost 16... another year and an half!! Luckily I know I"m getting a car, so I'm excited!! I'm either getting a VW Beetle (yellow!!!) or some kind of Jeep or maybe a Merecedes convertible (still gotta talk to my parents into that one...lol:p)

Joe Cool

Hey Katie,

My friend Charlsie just got a silver VW Beetle...she really likes it, so far. If I were you, I'd go for the Benz...hey, an equipped SLK230 comes to only twice as much $ as a Beetle. Its a relative bargain, where on the other hand you could drop about sixty grand for the V8 CLK 4-seat cabrio. :D

Lately when I have nothing to do I'm dreaming up my next car... which I probably won't get behind the wheel of for close to 10 years! LoL. My mom already has her sights on my PT Cruiser during my carless freshman year of college...ay, yi yi.

My car doesn't sound like much, an '89 Saab, but I modify it constantly, and I love it. It's Emerald, and I just spend $400(my own money, not mommy or daddy's) the other day to drop a full sound system in it. My entire goal was to make it so you can hear me coming down the street. Also, someone mentioned Fast and the Furious, and I drag like they do. We don't go all out with our cars, but he have serious races through the city. I've only lost once, and the other night I had my car going 220. It's dangerous, but its wicked fun, I love doing it.

Joe Cool
08-03-2001, 10:54 PM
Wooooo-hoooooooo! Golf carts...uh...rock! I was readin in a car magazine the other day about this company that makes golf cars in the shapes of cars, like the $17,000 Dodge Viper golf cart, or the Buick one that Tiger Woods has... had to be a Buick, right!? Corporate endorsements, whaddayagonnadowit'em, eh? LoL.

JC

P.S...my girlfriend Talli just got a car yesterday! She's really stoked about it...she got an electric blue/aquamarine Jeep Wrangler, 4 wheel drive, convertible, tan interior. In short, her dream car. We even went to an auto show in February, and you can imagine how hard it was to tear her away from the Jeep exhibit, especially this cute little hunter green Wrangler with a tan interior...eh...notice a pattern here!? I'm real happy for her, especially because she got it this summer, and not later during the school year.

I share a silver '89 Volvo 740 Turbo with my brother...it's almost up to 100K miles. Kinda crappy, but hey, it runs (most of the time) and I didn't have to pay for it, so it's fine with me.

Whoa. OK I put 26,000 on my car the first year, and I don't know if that's all that much, but at this rate my warranty is probably going to be expired by Christmas. Hooboy. At this rate, I'll have a hundred thousand in no time...LoL! Oh geez...

Don't feel bad cheshire cat, I've been having to do that for the past year!! I'll get my license though when I'm almost 17. I didn't go to driver's ed right away & if you go to driver's ed you can knock 4 months off of the year that you usually would have to wait for & get your license in 8 months. But I'll still be gettin mine in less than a year on SEPTEMBER 6th (I got my beginners on October 20th)!! :) Yay, i'm so excited!! :) :bounce:
