View Full Version : New THREAD: Your voucher experience..do tell?

I read the thread on the Budget board. It seems to contain more info regarding where to buy the vouchers and what the cost is. I'm looking for recent accounts of folks using them. I ordered mine already for our upcoming trip.

What would your original bill have been vs what your vouchers cost? Where did you eat and felt you got a good value? If you remember what was ordered....post that too. I used these vouchers about 3 years ago. I only have one recollection of Beaches and Cream. I know our bill was around $110 for 6 of us and we used 4 vouchers (one was a childs!) so the savings was TREMENDOUS. Don't get me wrong, I know we saved money on all the vouchers but its been so long, I don't remember what we got.

Any recent experiences? Let's get a thread started so we can do our homework!!

The vouchers that can be used at Beaches and Cream are called Quick & Casual. I have never seen a children's voucher of this type. Only the more expensive vouchers- the Vacation Kingdom Lunch vouchers, and the breakfast vouchers have a children's version. We used the Q&C's last year. I didn't keep the receipts, but I can tell you we used them at the AS food court, Yakitori House, and Pepper Market. We saved money at all three places, the most savings being at Pepper Market. An entree with a side at the food court will cost about 8.50. A bottled drink, 2., and about 5. for a Mickey Sundae. This adds up to more than a 5. savings once you include tax. Your best bet is to take a look at the menus on Deb Will's site- www.allearsnet.com to determine if what you would probably order would cost more than the 11.50 you will spend on each Q&C voucher from Hotwire.

ooops sorry Frann...you're right...they were just Q&C vouchers. I was thinking of the breakfast ones that are kids and adult separate. Thanks... I know all about Deb's website... I would just like to hear first hand where folks ate...what they were allowed to order/or not order so to speak. Beaches and Cream was a definite savings for our group! Some places will tell you "no, you can't order that..." other places would tell you just the opposite. I am curious to know particulars.

I just thought it would be fun to start a thread on this topic since the other thread mostly deals with where to buy them and how much they cost...where to use them..etc. I want to know food particulars....LOL!

anybody.....?

We used ONE AKL at RFC and it fed me, DH and DS (5).
We got a Smoothie ($6), Shrimp Cocktail (DS meal $9.99), a Dinner Platter with Shrimp, Chicken and Ribs, fries and a veggie ($26.99), Bananas Foster ($6.99) and a margarita paid seperate for. Our bill was over $60.00 and again, we had ONE voucher to use. It was well worth it.

I used one once at- UK fish and chip place- barely broke even.
-China- awesome value-DD got about $16 worth of food
-almost all counter service places in MK- these you saved a buck or 2
- both water parks- minimal savings
- beaches and cream-love this place. Had the kitchen sink one time and 2 sundaes another time. Great food and great savings.
-pepper market- DH always gets the steak and me and DD's share fahitas or a pasta dish. If you have vouchers you have to go here. I can't believe they have not banned this place yet.
-ASM food court- not as good value as Pepper Market but better than theme parks. Saved about $5 or $6 at these places.

For me it isn't just about the savings it is also the fact that another portion of the trip is paid for.

We used 2 Q & C Vouchers 3 weeks ago at Tangierine Grill(Morrocco) that fed 2 adults and 3 kids for dinner! We got:
1 rotisserie platter- half a chicken with yellow rice and lentil salad
1 mediterranean wrap platter- 1 wrap, yellow rice and lentil salad
2 side orders of cous cous
2 extra large cokes
2 chocolate cakes
The bill would have been $38.75...so we thought we did pretty good!
Keep in mind that we weren't super hungry because we had a huge lunch at Coral Reef!

I agree the Pepper Market is a great savings. We used them last week, 2 times. We went for dinner one night and my husband got the Prime Rib special, an iced tea and carrot cake - I think his total was about $25. I got the fahita's which came with rice and beans, and they let me get a small salad (which is good size), an iced tea and the german chocolate cake - which is awesome. I think my total was about $20. It's a great place to use them, the employees are very nice and the food is good.

We also used them at ABC Comm in MGM - probably about broke even. We got burgers with fries, iced teas and ice cream bars. Used them at Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bills in MK and saved a couple of dollars. I know last year at Pecos, they let us get the burger with the fries plus a side, this time I could not get an extra side. The best value I think was getting the double burger and paying for an extra roll, the kids split the extra burger and it only cost .79 or so for the roll.

Esmerelda - I promise to report back ! its the least I can do when these boards are soo helpful in my planning of a trip .. I am going to use some of then at Pepper Market - Beaches and Cream - Cosmic Ray's, Pecos Bills, either the Liberty Inn or Sunshine Food Fare in Epcot , Flame tree or Tusker House in AK . I hope to keep pretty detailed notes so i can break it down for each place but we will have to see about that it is after all vacation.. LOL.. Michelle

I know several meals are already paid for!
We only bought 12 vouchers for our trip(family of 5), I don't want to feel too pressured to use them and get a great deal. We plan to use them at B&C our last day in Orlando that will really be a travel day, but I figured it would be a good last WDW hurrah! We have a late afternoon flight, so we can go to lunch there.
Also will probably use them at Yakitori(sp?) as DH loves Sushi and want to try to make it to Pepper Market. Youngest DD will be kids menu all the way(maybe me too), but the two teenagers will use them I'm sure.

DH & I (no kids) used one voucher to split one meal, side, drink, dessert, etc. at Tangerine Cafe, Beaches & Cream, and Peco Bill's. Plenty of food, good savings. I can't recall specifics right now.

We used one voucher each on another trip to Peco Bill's and at the POFQ Food Court - while we saved money, it was way too much food. I think they are most efficient if you use them to split meals.

We also had one VKL we used at RFC at AK. We easily had a $65 meal for $31. These people bend over backwards to give you your money's worth we had: Order of Wings (8.99); Primal Steak (19.99); TWO add-on orders of coconut shrimp (6.99 x 2) - we asked for ONE, they brought out TWO; the 6.99 Souvenior Cup Drink; AND Key Lime Pie (5.99) We were so stuffed we got dessert to go. The food was awesome too. We figured after tax + tip this was at least $65-70 meal. I think we may have thrown in an extra $5 for our waitress b/c she was so accomodating.

Wow LglBlonde...sounds like you did quite well at the RFC!! I hadn't thought about it...but now I will! I remembered that we tipped our waitress well at B/C also...they were super when we used our two years ago.

I agree Tinkerbell13....I liked the fact that something besides airfare is paid for ahead. It just gives you more of an idea of what you have to 'yet' purchase once you're there. I like that...lord knows you can surely spend 'more' once you get there!

I never even thought about going to pepper marker until now. If we drive to the resort will they let us in to eat. This year we are staying off site. Also, I would like to visit CS. Doesthe roast beef dinner or the steak have big portions? We used them at beaches and cream in the past and was more than satisfied.

1 adult VKL voucher at Alfredos (August 2004)
Pizza appetizer ($9.95)
Trio Pasta ($18.95)
Coke ($1.99)
Coppa Fragola (Mascaponi cheese and berries dessert) ($6.00)
Total = $36.89 + tax and tip

1 childs VKL voucher at Alfredos (August 2004)
Pizza appetizer ($9.95) - from adult menu
Kids Spaghetti ($5.99)
Kids Cappucino (hot chocolate) ($2.75)
Spuma di Cioccolata (chocolate mousse) ($6.50) - from adult menu
Total = $25.19 + tax and tip

4 of us ate this meal. The pizza appetizers were a full dinner plate size and more than enough for my meal and my older DD ate the other pizza appetizer for her meal.

1 adult VKL voucher at Rainforest Cafe in AK (August 2004)
Caribe chicken appetizer
steak and coconut shrimp meal
1 huge icee drink mug with coke
1 volcano (combined with a kid voucher to get this)

1 child VKL voucher at Rainforest Cafe in AK (August 2004)
bruschetta appetizer
1 filet mignon meal (she offered the stuffed lobster with this but DH said no thanks)
1 huge icee drink mug with sprite
1 volcano (combined with an adult voucher to get this)

We didn't try to get the "best deal" here. We just ordered what we wanted. We still made out extremely well. We were able to order totally off the adult menu with the kid voucher.

1 Q&C voucher at Lotus Blossom Cafe (August 2004)
TwiceCooked Beef meal ($6.59)
Fried rice as side item ($3.99)
Fruit cup for dessert ($2.99)
Large coke ($2.29)
Total = $15.86 + $1.04 tax = $16.90

They really know how to use these here. As soon as I showed the voucher she pulled out the menu and told me what I could have. The fried rice side was very large and this is what my DH had for his meal. We could have ordered a specialty drink (like the ones with tapioca balls???) but opted for a plain old coke.

1 Q&C voucher at Pepper Market (August 2004)
1 ribeye steak with baked potato and grilled veggies ($17.95)
1 coke ($1.99)
1 chocolate croissant (~$2.50)
Total = at least $22.44 + tax and tip

1 Q&C voucher at Pepper Market (August 2004)
1 bourbon chicken with rice ($12.50)
1 diet coke ($1.99)
1 cinnamon roll (~$2.50)
Total = at least $16.99 + tax and tip

DH didn't try to get the "best deal" with his voucher. He just got what he wanted and still came out ahead. We did by a kids pizza and kids pasta for the girls. There was enough food with just the two vouchers, but the girls didn't want what we had. They wanted pizza and pasta.

We were at WDW for 8 days. I ordered 2 adult and 2 kid VKL vouchers. I ordered 5 Q&C vouchers. With the VKL vouchers, we were able to feed our family of 4 with 1 adult and 1 kid voucher.

don't know if you want only for q/c but i think our best voucher meal with vkl was at bD..we split coconut shrimp, steak& shrimp, creme brulee coffee ( he gave us a free coffee also) which would have been around $47 so saved 15 ( roughly 1/3) but the nicest part was they split and plated it in the kitchen, decorated both plates and either gave us more sides or they give a giant amount of sides so we were both "full" it definetly felt like more than a $30 lunch. we saved more other places ( rfc) but enjoyed it the most here. lecellier we got basically the same meal for the same price and was also very good but 1) they did not preplate it and 2) the sides were skimpy..we literaly got 1 1/2 new potatoes ( very tiny ones at that)!

q/c the only place i did not notice already listed was pop where were got lomein, salad, tiramisu, drink $17+, hub got double cheese burger & fries, salad, tiramisu, drink $17+ so on 2 vouchers we saved $11

I just wanted to point out that there is a thread on the budget board right now that has evolved into a different take on vouchers - lots of "not voucher" people posting why they aren't voucher people - some who just "know" they aren't voucher people - some who tried and and weren't happy. It may be worth a peek for those on the fence. I'm not a voucher person, but I think they can work for some people - it might just be worth knowing why they don't work for everyone before anyone jumps on the idea.

i.e. vouchers can be great, but they aren't for everyone and you need to think before you use them blindly or you may not be satisfied with your voucher experience.

I think what Crisi says is very important. Vouchers aren't for everyone and need to be used "smartly" for them to be worth it. For example, we like to use vouchers. But I only buy them for the meals that I KNOW we will eat and where we will save money. For example, we just got back from a 8 day trip and I purchased 5 Q&C vouchers, 2 adult VKL vouchers and 2 kid VKL vouchers, plus 8 Breakfast vouchers (for our 2 character meals). So it was only for a few of our meals. Plus, we like to share meals since none of us eat a lot at one time. So, these vouchers work for us.

simonmunro...I know what you mean about dessert. What we have done is gotten ours to go because we are so full from just the food portion of the voucher. While I may not normally always order dessert...it sure is nice to have that option and to take it with you for later on!

I will say we haven't ordered steak yet with a voucher...but that's in my plan for this Octobers trip! Its nice to have to pay so little for so much food!

Well I just recently got back from WDW. Sept 12-18, was very nice, until the 17th the parks were pretty much walk right up to the rides.

Anyway.

There were 6 of us at RFC, and 4 of us used the Vouchers. The waiter, offered the steak and Lobster deal, and all 4 of us got them. We ordered one Sampler Appetizer taking 2 vouchers, my brother got the chicken wings and my mother the Salad.

We all got Character Sodas.

For Dessert we got one volcano, one key lime pie and one banana foster.

He brought out the check for the voucher stuff and the check said 292.65. I signed the Voucher receipt gave him the vouchers and that was that. He had a 36 tip, which we added another 30 dollars on top of.

All and all, we felt we robbed the place. I felt a little guilty but full. We ate a very late lunch, 3:30 and went hungry for about 2 hours before going to lunch/dinner.

My wife and I had two vouchers we used at Marrakesh, were the total was about 80 dollars. Which I feel is about normal.

Had Scott not offered the Steak and Lobster, odds are my wife would have gotten Lobster and I would have gotten steak and shared them.

I kept the receipt. Mainly because I will never see such a bill again.

Esmerelda
09-22-2004, 02:12 PM
WOOOOOWWW!!! Geez did you folks come out ahead on that one! I don't think I've ever read about a bill that size with vouchers...I would be stunned myself :)

Don't feel guilty....I imagine that Scott would not have offered it had it been a big issue with the restaurant. This sure does top my 4 vouchers and my $110+ bill 2 years ago at B/C...lol I'm glad your family enjoyed their meals and thanks for posting! By the way; what is a Volcano....?

We went to RFC at AK on Sep 14, bringing 1 adult VKL and 1 child VKL.

George of the Jungle (our server), said the child's VKL is considered the same as the adult, so we might as well order the adult items with the child VKL. He even said they count it the same way as using wishes.

So DH got the steak and ribs combo (he doesn't do seafood), buffalo wings, RFC icee in souvenir mugs (these are huge), and apple cobbler for dessert. Total price for his meal: 39.99 + 8.99 + 8.99 + 8.99 on a $15 voucher (the price he paid on Ebay)

I had the steak and lobster, shrimp cocktail, RFC icee, and bananas foster for dessert. My total was 39.99 + 10.99 + 8.99 + 8.99 on a $37 voucher (the price he paid on Ebay)

Using the child's VKL for an adult was definitely the best value we got - and yes, I kinda felt like robbing the place!:)

We used all 16 Q&C vouchers I bought, and were ahead $ on every meal we paid with them. We used the VKL (1 A and 1 C) at RFC and got amazing value. We used the breafast vouchers at CRT and PSB, and those savings are pretty straight forward.

For the Q&C's, we used them about 3 times at the food court, mostly with entrees + sides about 9., drinks 3, and sundaes 5. We were two adults, DD2 and DD11. We shared 2 vouchers and ordered an extra entree most of the time for DD11. She was usually happy with the kid's pasta, so that only added about 5. to the cost of the meal. Therefore, we got a 17. meal for 11.50. Twice, I got the special of the day, which was some kind of meat over pasta. Both times I was allowed to get an additional side, which added about 4. to the value of the voucher. For a side, they allowed me fruit salad, small salad, or a few other things I can't recall. At the Pepper Market, all four of us shared 2 vouchers. We got the Ribeye platters (about 17.99), smoothie, coke, and two fruit pastries. I will try to find my receipt for the exact savings on that meal. We all shared 1 voucher at the Japanese counter service at Epcot, since it was about 3:30. We were able to get the combo plate (about 7.99), a large green iced tea (2.29), chestnut cake, and a salad. You can no longer get sushi rolls as a side. At Flame Tree in AK, we all shared 1 voucher, since it was late. We got the smoked 1/2 chicken with beans and corn, iced tea, frozen minute maid. I think the chicken platter was about 7.50, 2.29 for the drink, and 2.? for the frozen lemonade. At the Lotus Blossom in Epcot (Chinese), we used 2 vouchers and got the Beef & Rice Bowls (I think about 8.), a side of egg rolls, a side of fried rice with beef, iced tea, coke, and two smoothies for desert. We did B&C twice, due to the delicious food! We all shared 2 vouchers each time. The first time DD11 and I shared the Roast Beef Sub (9?), as did DH and DD2. We got iced tea and cokes with free refills, onion rings (about 4), and No Way Jose (7.99) and Large Sundae (7.99) for desert both times. I may be slightly off with the prices-sorry. The second trip to B&C we both got double burgers, which they split in the kitchen for us. They were huge and delicious. They added all toppings free of charge-cheese, bacon, grilled onions.
The absolute best deal was the VKL at RFC in AK. We used one adult and 1 kid's voucher for the 4 of us, and just couldn't finish a ton of it. We combined the two vouchers and got the awesome appetizer platter, which was like two meals on its own. They had a special platter of the shrimp (fried), ribs, and steak, which was about 25. We ordered that and the steak and lobster. They upgraded the steaks to fillets (not sure what kind of fillets) and gave us two soups as add ons. I got the icee in the souvenier cup, DH got a coke. For desert, we got one cheesecake and one chocolate cake. I will need to find the receipt for this meal, but the value was MUCH more than the 50 we paid with extra tip. One meal we did not use the vouchers for, but was good value of Earl of Sandwich. The hot sandwiches were about 5 each and a warm, tasty, filling lunch.
Sorry I went on and on, but I just had to gush about the great food and value with the vouchers!

It would be great if the mods could 'pin' this to the top - I know there's a thread on the Budget Board about the vouchers, but this is more about the FOOD and getting a good value - it's all about the restaurants, and which ones to choose, right?

I vote for pinning:teeth: .

I do have a question - for those who have been to RFC and used the childs voucher - how old is their version of 'child'? My youngest is 12, and I would say that at most places, it's 12 and under. What has been your experience?

I agree KCMiller..I would LOVE for this to be pinned to the top...but I have no idea how they chose what will go there and what won't. You're right, this was more about what were the best restaurants...what was ordered...what did you spend vs what the voucher cost..etc. The other thread seems to be more about how to obtain the vouchers...the cost...etc.

I'm not sure on your question about the 12 yr old. I think a kid (as far as food) is described as under 12? I know different folks have posted different things on here regarding that topic. I also remember reading where an adult actually used a kids voucher but I can't recall where they were at. I'm not sure what consistency WDW holds with this one if any. Hopefully, someone can answer this.

i know you can use a kids AK voucher at pizzafai for the pizza and since it's counter it's up to you if you use it for a kid or not( although i think it says for guests under 12 or some such wording) also have heard of some using a kids voucher at RFC and being order some things off the adult menu ( think appe and desserts, maybe entree also) but that was for a child and the child was present..don't know if they would be so lenient with just adults there and it could easily depend on the server's/manager's whim

I have never used the VKL or Q&C vouchers but the obes they sell in the AK are really good. If you buy the child's voucher and use it at pizzafai for a cheese pizza lunch you have already made for the voucher. You then can get either ice cream or popcorn and a bottle of soda or water. I have little kids and i got a dish of icecream at the soft serve place they gace me the sprinkles no charge the kids shared the ice cream with more left over. Later we got a popcorn to share and on the way put of the park we got a bottle of water and a coke. To make the deal even better under the cap of the coke was a coupon for a free liter bottle of coke! I felt like a real winner that day!

The kids vouchers are 5.99 plus tax. The kids pizza is 5.99 so you are even already!

Only regret is that we didnt get them till we bought lunch. If you get them early you can have the popcorn or ice cream as an early snack and then a late lunch. You have to be careful because the AK closes early so make sure you use all the features of the vouchers before the carts close.I actually got the adult ones at tusker house but plan on getting the kids ones at the pizza place the next time i go (if they still offer them)

This thread is great. Trying to decide what to do about vouchers. I have 4 in my family that are not sharing types, so if I suggest combining items to make a meal for each, they would probably spontainiously combust right there in the restaurant.

Well, I'm going to WDW at the end of October, and I plan on using various vouchers at various places, so I promise to give a full report when I return. Here's my plan (and just a note - we are a good sharing family):

2 VKL Adult at RFC for me, DH, DS17, DD15 and DS12

Breakfast vouchers for CRT, if my sister gets the ressies!

We have a number of Q&C vouchers, and I want to use them 2 times at Pepper Market, at least once at Beaches and Cream, and somewhere at MK the day we do MNNSHP. Any good ideas for that?

We did the morning at MK, then took the bus from MK to the Beach Club, ate a late lunch at B&C, then took the boat to MGM. DH was skeptical at how this would work out time-wise, and yes, we were pooped at the end of the day, but we did not stay for Fantasmic that day. I would think you could do this in reverse if you were looking to end up in the MK for MNSSHP. I would start the day a bit later than normal, by taking the bus to MGM. Maybe do a few rides or shows there, then have a very late lunch/very early dinner at B&C (to avoid the worst crowds). I believe you could take the bus from B&C to MK for MNSSHP a little earlier than the party (if you have regular admission) and avoid the MNSSHP lines. You may be hungry for a light snack much later in the evening. Have fun!:wave2:

At $30 for a kingdom lunch voucher their isn't reallly value in using it at Whispering Canyon. It would be cheaper to just pay cash plus you can't split "bottomless" items.

O.K., about the bun thing... Using Beaches & Cream for an example: If I order the double cheese and pay for a bun that means I could split the one burger with the two tiny little GDs and I'd have the other one for myself. The fries and beautiful sunday, pay for an additional drink will fill all three of us as we have small appetites anyway. We use one QC, waste no food, everybody happy, EXCEPT. How do you ask for a bun & plate without feeling awkward? I just said it outloud to myself and it sounded absurd!! If you've actually done this, tell me the expression on the servers face. I could just split a meal with one GD and order the other one a kid's meal but the food left over would be so wasteful. Any advice?????????

I have asked for another bun and the server had no issue. They are quite used to people sharing meals. I have had to pay for my bun on a few occasions but often they have not charged me.

I plan to ask like this " I will have a double cheesebuger to split with my son so could I please get an extra bun and plate . Thank you " at which point i do expect the server to say it will be an additional dollar or so for the bun which i will say " yes i understand . again thank you " Michelle

It does go quite smoothly at B&C. I just tell them we have a voucher and we will be splitting a meal. I order a double cheeseburger and an extra-bun. Typically, they split the meal and bring it out on 2 plates.

I do like the food and service here. Make sure you pick some songs on the juke box too! There is no charge to play selections.

DH and I split a voucher meal here. We got a double burger and no extra bun. They just cut the burger in half and brought it out on two plates, no problem.

That's what DD and I did. They just cut the double cheeseburger, in half, and split our onion rings, brought out on two plates. When we got our sundae, she gave us both spoons.

I can't wait to go back...those sundaes sure are good! :)

We loved Beaches & Cream, and hope to get back there this trip.

Does anyone have any recent experiences at MK to share? Counter service info is what I'm looking for - and thanks in advance!

This is a great topic - I've read through the other Voucher topic, but it takes me too long to get to the end of the pages!!
