I haven't even tried to get the discount yet for the dates we're going. Hope I can! But even not, I'm so happy they now recognize us hard working nurses(even though I've been a stay at home mom for almost 3 years now, LOL) Thx GLO!
How about dicounts for hard working X-Ray Techs. Maybe all health working should get the dicount (well maybe not doctors). Why just teachers, gov.empl. and nurses?

How do they know if you are a nurse. Do they ask to see your license? I am a respiratory therapist. How about a discount for me too!!
Susiee,Maybe we should call S/D and ask why other health care workers don't get the same discount as Teachers, nurses, and gov't emp. Lucky president Bush even he can get a discount (Ha Ha)jvw X-Ray tech.

I second that as a physical therapist it is strange that only nurses and not other licensed health care workers get the discount.
I called today to see if X-Ray tech. could get a discount at D/S. Ofcoarse they said no. I asked WHY just gov't emp.,teachers, and nurses she couldn't answer me. It's really not fair at all. Maybe just maybe if other health care workers keep calling and asking they will give us the discount too. So let's hear it from all the x-ray techs, lab tech, physical therapists, ras.therapists, and anyone else that thinks this discount is so unfair. jvw

So on Sunday I wrote a e-mail to them also.

Pharmacists need a discount too!
:)
this discount should apply to ALL licensed medical professionals
for 50 weeks a year i see stuff you could never imagine..or would want to.
so when it comes to my 2 weeks to unwind and relax,a discount would be sweet.
a little appreciation is great thing!
air goes in and out...blood goes round and round ANY deviation to this is considered a BAD thing!!
Just wanted to comment on this because I had stated a few months ago to a poster who I noticed was a nurse that they should get some kind of discount, because I have a lousy disease and these people are invaluable when you have to be pricked with needles ten times a day and they are there to clean up all the throw up after your treatments. And most do it with a smile. I never dreamed that they actually would implement a nurse discount. I understand you all in the health care field feeling this is unfair, but how is that different from the Teacher or Government discounts. By the way Medics and EMTs if paid by the city or county governments are eligible for the government discount. Maybe even city hopsital personnel also.
Please do not complain too much about this newly added benefit for nurses, if you do,it may just be taken away. Believe me these people deserve our thanks and I for one am glad to see the Swan/Dolphin add the benefit. I am an accountant and I don't believe that there will ever be a discount for my profession. Oh well, I never have to clean up someone else's throw up either! LOL
This is just my opinion based on my experience. Please I do not mean to offend anyone ;)

Hi! I am a teacher and I just used the discount this past weekend to make reservations for spring break. I can't wait. :D
One thing you have to be careful about is that you do have to have proof, either a work ID or a current pay stub or a letter on company letterhead or you will be charged full price when you get there. So it probably won't work if you have been home for 3 years...I'd hate for you to get there and have to pay full price.

Does she not still have some sort of card showing her nursing status? Like she is a nurse, but inactive at this time. I too have been a stay at home mom for almost 3 years but kept my license current. I'm taking my license with me when we go next month. Even though I'm not working right now, I'm still a nurse.

I for one am very grateful to be recognized and given a discount. As a nurse I am quite proud of my chosen profession and work hard myself to keep the highest standards. I also recognize that this is also true of many other professions that also deserve to be recognized. I think if we continue to praise those who choose to reward certain professions with discounts, eventually I bet you'll see a rotation in the professions they choose to give discounts to. Always praise good behavior!! :D

"SwanDolphin" (the man) has done a wonderful thing by adding a NURSE discount to the other discounts available at the WDW Swan and Dolphin Resort. Unfortunately, every time a new discount is added, there are complaints from those who AREN'T included! Good grief, folks - be thankful that more people qualify for a discount! To those don't qualify for the government, teacher or nurse discounts, you are STILL eligible for the Entertainment (including Disney Club) and AP discount (depending on availability), which isn't that much more per night. :)

Hi,
Just a question as a result of your post on the 13th. Is a current nursing license proof enough of your professional status? I realize teachers, government employees do not have a state license thus the necessity for providing the documentation indicating your professional status but I would think a current nursing license, issues by your state of residence, would be proof enough.

Do Canadian Nurses qualify for this offer?
Mike in the Maritmes
36 Days and counting...
Disney and CRO are not part of this promotion at all, and would have no knowledge of it. These discounts are only offered for the Swan and Dolphin resorts.
Figment, I think that you need to bring proof that you are currently employyed as a nurse. Teachers can bring their State certifications, but must also bring a pay stub or ID. The same must hold for nurses. I will check on it though.
Yes, Canadian Nurses are all included.

I'm glad nurses are finally getting recognized, they work so hard to take care of us. My fiance is a RN and she works 12 hours days/nights, works a lot of overtime and is overworked. Here in Canada they are underpaid and at times have a team of 9 patients to care for. I'm glad we were able to book the dolphin at this rate, making our honeymoon that much better and a much needed break for my future wife.
You don't have to be currently employed as a teacher or a nurse to get the discount as long as you have either a current nurse's licence or a current teaching certificate.
Also, volunteer firefighters qualify under the goverment rate as long as they supply aletter from the town stating what they do.

Hey, anyone that thinks this nurse discount is unfair has no idea how many other breaks nurses get. We have Nurses Week when we get gifts and floral arrangements. LOL I have been stopped 3 times over 18 years for minor traffic violations and every time the officer said upon learning that I'm a nurse "I never ticket nurses." I never received a ticket - ever. It's funny to hear how many people want to whine about nurses getting a discount and trying to lump them in with all other persons associated with healthcare- when is the last time you ever heard a sick person say "I don't feel good. Get me an x-ray tech!"?? LOL LOL Never! No, they all want a nurse. Nurses are and always will be favored among healthcare workers. Up with nurses! Of course, we couldn't do it without the support from x-ray techs, etc, but I still contend nurses are SPECIAL!

First, I'm not a nurse, just a research tech in a neonatal intensive care unit. I just wanted to say these professionals deserve this BIG TIME! I've never seen people who work such long hours and under such tough conditions. Of course, like everyone else who works in a hospital, I'd love a discount, but THREE CHEERS! THE NURSES DESERVE THIS ONE! CONGRATS ALL!
Antonia, We the the x-ray teach's find the pt's problem ( and it's now always easy) by taking good x-rays. We save lives every day by taking good x-rays then doctors and nurse will know how to treat the pt.We too have national x-ray tech week. But I've never had a traffic violation. I wouldn't want to get in a acc. and have to have a x-ray tech push that 2 ton protable x-ray machine to the e.r. justTO x-ray me. I've had lots of pt's call me NURSE and I always tell them with pride I'm not a NURSE I'm a x-ray tech. WE ALL WORK HARD IN HEALTHCARE AND THE PT'S NEED ALL OF US.lol

JVW - I bet you are a great x-ray tech and if I were sick, or maybe right after my traffic accident (LOL) I would probably say "Get me an x-ray tech!" I agree with you that it takes all of us to make a team. Hey, nurses can get up to 3 rooms I think. If you'll go in June, I'll get one for you, too. LOL :)

I have been keeping quiet on this one, but here are my humble thoughts...
All healthcare workers are invaluable to the patient, from the secretaries who answer the phones to the personnel who clean the rooms and empty the trash. Without everyone involved a hospital could not deliver excellent patient care.
But it is the nurse, rather than any other healthcare worker who assumes responsibility for the patient for an 8, 12 or 16 hour shift. It is the nurse who cleans the patient, changes the dressings and gets emotionally invested for the good and the bad. If a patient is unpleasant, or difficut, there is no leaving for the nurse. And no guarentee that the same situation won't reoccur the next day, or the next...
For those overworked and underpaid for the responsibilty and emotional toll that this job takes - a little discount is well deserved! JMHO

I'm just home from a 4-day stretch, all four days involving 2-3 hours of overtime, and I'm tired and my back hurts and I had no time for lunch (or breakfast either, now that I think about it!)
It was a hard week, and I saw some bad things and held some hands and gave some hugs and cried some.
Sometimes I feel discouraged because no one knows what it's like except other nurses. It was so great to see all the nice things written here about nurses; thank you all.
Healthcare is a team, none of us could do it without the rest of the team. I love the folks I work with.
I hope someday all the team gets a discount but for now I am just happy that nurses do because I am GOING TO DISNEY in December and now maybe I will get to stay someplace really nice that I have never been able to afford on a nurse's pay!

I work in a hospital for 10 years as a physical therapist. Like many nurses I work 10-12 hour shifts to get both inpatients and outpatients there therapy. I also work 8-10 hour days at least 2 weekends a month. I am paid for 8 hours but stay till our patients are done. I also clean, dress and do many of the same things nurses do. The difference is that instead of 6-8 patients a day to take care of I have 16-20 a day. All requiring a lot of time, running in our department and going up at a phone call from the nurses to transfer patients back to bed. I respect nurses but if I need help they are busy and I do a lot of the work they do not have time for. If you have ever worked on an orthopedic floor ask them who they want to be there, and other than for the pain meds it is the PT/OT's who get them moving and home. So please everyone in a hospital is the number one person, not just the nurse. We work together to get the patient to the place they need to be. I just finished with JCAHO this week and it was amazing how much was put onto what the therapist did in order for the nurses to do there job. We are a team and should be treated as one.
I think we should just all give up on this topic because it causes great emotions.

maybe if enough people complained in the healthcare industry something might get done being in nursing is totally different we are high risk for all kinds of infections. I work in mental health and have to do body surfice checks and sort through their belongs do you know how many junkies are out there??? We work with all kinds of body fluids every day do post mortum care hold families hands get beat up on a regular basis but we all have our role in healthcare to make it happen and eveyone deserves a break. Walk in a nurses shoes for a day and do what we do and you would be amazed we are anything from a secratary to a janitor everyday. Yeah to us nurses!!!!!!!

03-26-2001, 12:06 PM
I agree with jenosa... I have had to undergo HIV testing because of a needle stick that was no fault of my own, I have been exposed to so many infections, and for 12 hours or more have had to undergo awful patient assignments with no other patiets to break it up! I wish that my shift could end @ 9 pm instead of 7 am and that I did not have to work all night. Actually, most days, I am not sure about my decision to become a nurse.
It is a unique profession and this discount is most appreciated. Most nurses are NOT well compensated for what we do and the risks of everything from needlesticks to lawsuits. We protect patients from so many things, MD errors included. We are all part of a healthcare team and all are important, it is just that we all do not do the same things. PT, OT, Patient Care assistants, secretaries, dietary, X-Ray and everyone else is essential to healthcare - but let's not begrudge a nurse a discount. Let's be happy for one member of out team!

Why do people have to be bitter when one person gets a discount and another does not? When I first came on the Dis, teachers got discounts and not nurses and I didn't write not so nice stuff about teachers to make myself feel better because I didn't get a discount. Yes, we all do work as a team. And good for you that you clean patients and work 12 hour shifts. And I do work on an Ortho floor, when one of my patients dirties themselves, I am called to pick them up change them and bring them back. I was told by a PT, thats not a PT's job. We are understaffed, underpaid and in the years to come it will become alot worse. Thank you so much Swan and Dolphin for recognizing us nurses.

Gosh! Hard to believe that a thread that started out in such a positive fashion could degenerate into a debate over who is deserving of a discount! <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif" alt="red face">
I am not privy to the decisions of the Swan/Dolphin, but it is up to them to offer group discounts to whom they please.
I am going to lock this thread to further comment but I will bump it up periodically so that others can be advised of this discount.
Thank you...
