I know that I have the accessibility to use my Rogers cell phone in WDW, but to those who have, I have some questions. I do not plan on using it for outbound calls, only to receive calls, in cases of emergencies.
When you used the cell phone, were the roaming charges very high? Was it worth it to keep the phone on you the whole time? I have bought a calling card in case I needed to make calls.
Just wondering if the phone cost is worth it.
Thanks,
Jo

Huge! Take your calling card and use a payphone in the
lobby,

We found out the hard way! Not only do some calling cards
charge you everytime you try to make a call-but WDW charges .75 each time you try to dial out toll free numbers/calling cards doesn't matter- and it also does not matter if you connect to anyone on the other end. DD used a calling card from the room a few years ago and we were surprised with a $55.00 phone charge (U.S. dollars) and she never did get through (WDW couldn't do anything about it). For some reason, calling card did not work in the room but did in the lobby payphone.

It is cheaper to have the caller call you long distance in your room (that way you do not get charged), or have them leave a message for you to return the call or specify a time when they will call back so you can be there to receive the call.

Hi, it was very expensive to use the cell phone. However, if it's only used for emergencies than use it. The roaming charges didn't appear on my bill for at least 3 months down the road. I use Telesmart and you can use them anywhere in the world. However, there probably are still charges on your Rogers bill from using their 800 number.
If I have some time I'll go back online and look at my charges for when we went last October.

I think I was charged $0.95 roaming and $0.50/minute for long distance :( Or maybe it was the other way around ... either way, the calls were quite expensive so I tried not to use my phone unless it was absolutely necessary.

I remember reading that you can call up Rogers and ask them to put a long distance plan on your phone for the month. I'm not sure if its that much cheaper ... I've found that phone cards work the best.

Actually I looked into this when I was rogers a couple weeks ago buying a new phone..you can add onto your exsisting plan-a one time deal type of thing so that you can make calls in the usa...can't remember how much-but it may be worth checking into!

No it is not worth it not woth the roaming fee and the long distance fee etc. Our 14 minute phone call from WDW to home was 44 dollars/

I asked the sales rep about this and he said that it would be much cheaper to use a Phone Card and a Payphone!

That's what we do now!

Absolutely-we found the same thing-but make sure you use a pay phone and NOT the room phone.

Is it not worth it to just use your cell phone as is...or to not use the extra plan that rogers sells for the usa...?

Too expensive to use your cell phone either way in my view - but-you can text message from your Rogers phone and no long distance/roaming charges apply. If text messages are part of your plan, this is the cheapest alternative yet. We had no problem sending and receiving texts over Easter (you do get pretty good at it after a while-you should see the kids go-we parents on the other hand take forever-easier to dictate to the kids and have them send!)
