Hi All -
First - Thank you to all you Military Men and Women (and your families) for your service to our country and thank you for all the sacrifices you all make everyday!!!
This isn't a Disney question, but I thought .. who better to ask but my Disney friends? My daughter and her AF husband and family (5 little ones) have been reassigned to Vandenberg AFB after spending 5 years in England. While they will miss England and all the friends they've made there, they are looking forward to being stateside again. They will arrive 9/30 at DFW and drive to CA from here. She has been able to read about Van. AFB on their site, but has some questions about school calendars and such about the area. Is there another site she can visit, do you know? They have tried in vain to contact the sponsor assigned to them, but have not made contact as yet. Have any of you been to that part of California or to the base? Thank you so much for listening....even if you can't help!!!
God Bless the USA!! Barbara from Texas:

Barb..... I know absolutely nothing of which you speak.... however, there has got to be a better place to post this than the Budget Board! How about the Community Board? Or maybe you could ask the moderators to move this to a better spot? Just trying to help.....................P

I'm a Vandenberg brat, having been born there (almost 40 years ago!). Here are a few links:

It will likely be cooler, climate-wise, than your daughter and her family might anticipate. We lived there 7 years. I remember lots of fog in the mornings and it seemed that it was warmer at Christmas than in July! I think they will like it there.

My cousin, now a Master Sgt. in the AF, was stationed there in the early 90s.

I went ot visit him and his wife for a graduation trip from my parents. Honestly, it is a BEAUTIFUL part of California. I loved it there.

Everyone was so friendly and while it wasn't a major metropolitan area like L.A. , there is still plenty to do and see. :)

I cried the day I had to come home. I loved it there so much. I hope you daughter and her family have a safe trip back stateside and enjoy their time at Vandenberg. :)
