How strict are they on a later than 4 pm check in?

We will be driving from our house. We live about 3 hours away. My son gets out of school at 2:30. We will leave directly from there. Figuring in traffic conditions and weather conditions we should get there at about 5:30 or 6. Is this going to be a problem?

It won't be a problem at all. The 4PM time is the earliest time the hotel guarantees your room will be ready. Somtimes you can get lucky and get your room earlier but if you are later it's fine.

I have checked in at 1 AM, no problem. If you are worried about being any later than that, you can always mark your reservation with a "late checkin" so that they will know that you will be there later than 4 PM. I usually use this for check ins after 9 PM, but it may make you feel more secure in your reservation.

I have arrived around midnight..no problem. They told me if I was going to arrive after midnight to give them a quick call.
