Boy, I LOVE starting off the week with a Rest day!
Actuallly, I'll want to play with my new pedometer today, so I'll probably go for a little stroll ::yes:: and test out my new shoes too! Don't worry.......I won't overdo it
This is MY WEEK for sticking to my training schedule......no excuses....I am an ATHLETE IN TRAINING, gosh darn it!
Debbie

I'm with you on the REST DAY, Jackie! ;) And that way, any little stroll, any little swim, any little exercise is a bonus!
My goal (since I'm doing okay on the walking) is to stick better to a healthy way of eating.
Have a great day, everyone! Stay safe and dry. And remember- the hardest part of training is lacing up the shoes and heading out the door!
Just put one foot in front of the other 'cause slow and steady wins the race.....and the Donald medal!

I have time here for just a minute to ask you all one thing.....
Did anyone notice Debbie's countdown clock?!?!?!?!?!?
We're under 150 days to walkin' our butts off!!!!!!!!
WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!
Today is suppesed to be my big walking day- don't know if I'll be able to get to it today, but I'll try. I'm also gonna try to check in during the week, but don't know if I'll be able to do that, so, if IO don't.... work hard you guys!!
Thanks for starting the thread Jackie!

But it's okay - it's a Nana's sunflower cookie (1/2 of one = 2 WW pts) If you have never had one they are delicious!!
I did well yesterday - had my DH drive me to Curves - did that and then I walk 3.75 miles home and then cleaned and today I walked 3 miles and doing more cleaning. It's the cleaning part I am not fond of - but I found a new cleaning product (Krud Kutter) and it does really work on my crud!! (bathroom mini blinds- cleaned lickety split with that stuff) Got lots more cruddy places to try it but we are on our way to a baseball game this afternoon - so that is for another day!
ohMom andher girls coming for a couple days this week so we will try to stay OP by my DH already has plans to take them mini-golfing and for Graeters ice cream - he thinks it may be last outing for the summer - so we'll see what goes :teeth:
I am planning on treadmilling and Curves as much as possible this week, too!
Keep up the training - Karen is right - time is flying!

Some of you have started posting to this thread recently. I have a small surprise that I would like to send you - just pm me either your wrist size or your bracelet size (make sure to tell me which it is) and your name and mailing address.
I have someone making them for me - so may take a little time if she is out of supplies.
Also, if there is anyone else that has sent me your info and you don't have one yet - please let me know too. (Debbie I hope to get yours in mail this week, I pm'd you today) I think I am caught up - but I might have "messed-up" too.

Bev, that 'surprise' inspired me yesterday to do an extra 'lap' ::yes::
I'm sitting here reading restaurant reviews and planning PS's for two different trips. All I can say is it's a good thing there are no snacks in this house! I'm going to have to build a tasty and exotic salad for lunch............or better yet, go out for a tasty and exotic salad. Yeah, that's it....I'll wear my new pedometer and park far from the resturant and call it TRAINING!

I'm not quite sure how this "marathon training thread" works. I AM signed up for the marathon, however I haven't done any training!
Well, actually I started training about a week and a half ago. Better late than never, right? Right? Right?? Then Friday morning I broke my rib. So now I can't do much of anything.
Can getting back to eating right be my training for now? I haven't been to WW in months. I've gained back almost 20 pounds! I can't afford to rejoin right now, however I still have all my materials and have NO EXCUSE for not counting points again!
Maybe if I know I can come here each day and report on how I did (points wise), that can be my "training" for now??

welcome debbie :) i'm sorry to hear you broke your rib! ouch! just do what you can for now, healthy eating lots of protein!
today is my rest day too - i'm cleaning (in the genes?) my girls dressers and closets and refilling with what clothes we have for school. now DD and I are off to the mall to spend her b-day money burning a hole in her pocket!
definately activity here!
my plan is to walk/jog tomorrow am! i have been OP since yesterday ;)

Morning everyone.....
First thing I want to do is welcome Wendy (wls23) to this thread - she just signed on for the 1/2 and I told her about us, and the amazing support that is here. :bounce:
Me--really not on track with the training....have been a bad girl over the weekend....not good w/ my eating either :(
I WILL do better this week. I have been lugging boxes and junk around the house (which qualifies as exercise, but not really walking IMO). My place is such a mess right now....can't imagine how long it will take me to whip it into good enough shape to get a realtor over here (to put it on the market). I'm feeling over whelmed!
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Ohmom- I'm here!! It's a beautiful day in Northern Minnesota!!
Just finished 56 min. of hard walking. I usually walk and jog but had a long weekend at a family reunion and thought I better take it a little bit slower today. Did get a 2 mile run in on Sat. along a lake. Gorgeous!! This morning i saw a beautiful white tail deer grazing along the road. Nice sight!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Hi everyone
I'm back from the Mall of America and a week at my sister's in northern WI. We had a GREAT time but ate weigh to much and somehow I managed to gain 6 pounds YIKES. That's even with walking 3 times and hiking 1 day, boy I really did eat the junk. I did pretty good eating today so I am getting back on track with that and I did my 45 min. jog/walk tonight. My goal is to get totally back OP with my eating and exercise at least 5 times this week.
I didn't get a chance to meet Ashley like I had hoped (I don't know where the week went) but I did have a nice talk with her on the phone. She is busy packing to move back home and has been having some computer problems so that's why she hasn't been around here much lately.
It looks like last weeks thread was a long one so I'll have to take the time to catch up on how everyone is doing between loads of laundry lol. There goes the dryer bell so I'm off to the next load of folding and putting away.
Keep up the GREAT training everyone!

Welcome Wendy and Debbie :)
Yesterday was a nice run/walk: 4.0 miles in 51 minutes (35 minutes was running at 5.0 mph). With cool down, 4.33 miles (1/3 of the race). Yahoo!
Today was a rest day. I did lower body weights and abs, no cardio.
Keep up the good work everyone::yes::

Just back from walk /run 3.55 miles in 69 minutes. Did about 5 sprints for 30 secs. First time to try that. It was pretty exhausting. My scale has finally moved downward. Only 2 pounds but I've been stuck for 3 weeks. Hoping to be in Onederland soon. Just keep ploding along hoping to increase my speed as the weight comes off. Any great ideas for food to eat before a morning run. If I don't have anything, I run out of steam about mile 3.0.
thanks, Beckie

Good Tuesday Everyone,
I did my 40 minute walk last night and went 1.9 miles. My DS had me trapsing through the back fields though so it slowed me down quite a bit. Last Saturday I went 3.4 in 1 hour. Someone tell me that in 9 more weeks I'll be able to go fast enough to be able to finish the marathon in the time allowed.
Did my 25 minute stroll today with a co-worker and we had to turn back because she was feeling faint. I told her to drink her water but she wouldn't. I learned that lesson the hard way two weeks ago. Now I've got that bottle with me and I make sure that I drink some every 10 minutes of so.
Have a great evening!!

Hi  everyone, and thanks for the welcomes!
It turns out my rib xray was negative, so I guess it's not broken. However, it feels just like last year when it was broken! Two years ago I hurt it also, and that time the xray was negative too. I guess maybe it was sprained that time and this time. Doesn't matter to me what they call it, hurts just as much as when it was broke!
I stayed OP on Monday, maybe didn't drink as much water as I should have. But counted and journaled all my points and was 1 point under my allowed for the day! Yesterday I wasn't as good.
:( I went to a talk given by a Dr. at a restaurant and paid for by a drug company. It was a seafood restaurant and I'm a vegetarian, so they made me a pasta dish, that I ate about half of. I also had too much bread and a piece of carrot cake for dessert! :p I haven't totaled up the points yet, but I will today. I'm sure I used all my flex points for the week!
Today it's back OP and going to try to get in LOTS of water. (That's hard too, since our toilets at work are having flushing issues.)
Congratulations to all of you who are doing so well!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Plan to walk today, probably a short one. Any news on the t-shirt design?

Hi all! I haven't checked in lately, because, to be honest, I haven't been doing much lately. I pulled that muscle in my upper back again this weekend. I decided to get a referal for a chiropractor and try to fix this problem for good. Today is my second visit.
I haven't walked since last friday and I've been making horrible food choices (comfort/compulsive eating). Things have been a little blue for a while, but I'm trying to do what it takes to snap out of it and move toward a positive, healthy way of life.
Today I'm concentrating on getting back OP. If the chiropractor says it's okay, I'll start walking again tommorrow.

Well, I've had two good days for eating, and have kept up on the walking. Did Curves this morning before going into work for 3½ hours. (Got lots to do here at home, too!). First, though, I think that I will head out for a short, 'easy' walk. It helps to know that I am more than half way to my 1000 minutes this month. BUT I need to keep saying to myself, "Two days of FitDay (http://www.fitday.com) ! Two days of FitDay (http://www.fitday.com) ! Two days of FitDay (http://www.fitday.com) !" It's a small victory, but a victory it is!

Oh well, I am doing what I can. I am glad that all of you are working away. I want to cheer you along, even if I am not there beside you all just now.

Hi Everyone,
I did 5 miles on the treadmill in 66 minutes last night. I ran 3 of the miles at 5.0 MPH and the rest was walking at 4.0 mph. I am hoping to get out to the bike path for an endurance run/walk this weekend.

Some of what you describe is "normal" seat issue that you become used to over time.
Perhaps though if your seat is not adjusted properly, the stress becomes uncomfortable for you. Your seat height should be such that when you "stand" with your heels flat on the pedal you should have your seat right up under you. Then as you are pedaling (proper pedal technique is with the ball of the feet on the pedals) you get maximum out of your stroke. The seat should have proper front/back alignment so that your stroke comes down as well. I had myself checked for this at our local bike shop. It truly makes a difference.
Hope this helps.
Everyone checking in so far, you are all doing a great job! Keep on moving.

Hi fellow-trainers -
How's it going for everyone today? I am reading some frustrations from some - hang in there it will get better and happen ::yes::
Molli and her girls were over for a couple of days - managed to get some treadmilling done and today up and did 2 miles and my knee exercising - it was muggy so I took the easy way out since I plan to do Curves tonight too.
Well - I told my pm buddies yesterday that it is time for a contract with myself again. I haven't "signed on the dotted line" just yet but plan to get it done soon.
I am definately back to eating healthy today and no more excuses - I need to just set the rules and then play by them. Molli says that she is ready for a contract too so when you hear from her again hopefully she is in the "let's get in done" mindset and has jumped back onto the wagon, too.
I am planning on a long walk this weekend - weather is suppose to be great - low temps and humidity - that should get me going in the right direction too.
Off to finish my lunch - just wanted to say "hi" and cyber high five to all to "getting it done" (whatever that is for you) LET"S JUST DO IT !!

I will definitely be getting in some walking time this weekend and I can't wait. I am visiting GF in Middletown OH and we always walk the farm she has. I so look forward to this time.
It is raining here and I will have to TM if I am to do anything.
AEG and Sundie, you have got me in the spirit to get on that beast and walk away. I hope that I won't have any interference tonight with my plan.

This is apparently my new training schedule:
Sit on your behind at work all week.....drag yourself home, DIS for an hour, go to bed, repeat daily....then on the week-end, take one long walk till you feet are bloody stumps. Somehow I don't think this is how I'm supposed to be doing it.
Did manage to swim twice this week.....but NO treadmill!!!!!
Oh well, tomorrow is another day.....................

Morning Everyone,
Yesterday was supposed to be my rest day. I decided to go for a bike ride. Well, I rode to the other side of my town (1 mile away) and realized that I was in trouble. I could hardly peddle the bike because the cramps in my legs were awful. Apparently cycling uses way different muscles. I did get home,
but when I got off the bike my knee felt like it was locked. I managed to walk it out. I was stupid though because I didn't take any water with me and hadn't hardly eaten anything. I guess my body just revolted.
This morning as I was walking into work I think I realized what the problem may be. My seat is too low on the bike. While I was riding I kept trying to adjust my foot on the pedal to make it more comfortable. My DS has these friends that invade our garage on a regular basis and I bet the little ..darlings.. played with the seat of my bike.
I'm going back to walking and we'll try the cycling in smaller doses. Maybe just around the block.
Tomorrow is 5 miles.:earseek:
Wish me luck!!

08-20-2004, 09:58 AM
Susan--Ontario, You are probably right. It is amazing what a difference things make when that bicycle seat is at the correct height. Good luck with your cycling and walking.
ibouncetoo, I wish I could say I don't know how it feels to go through your exhausting new workout schedule. I must confess, I know it all too well. Keep trying.
Auntmeme, Yes, please let me know if that helps. I hope it does.
Well, not yesterday either. :( I have such a full schedule (I was going to say "plate" but I don't want to relate to any more food consumption) these days. I don't know that I will get anything in for today either. I am starting to put all my eggs into the "after DH's surgery basket" that I am worried I am putting too much in there as well. Oh well, I am still hopeful.
I continue to cheer for my friends and WISH you all success in training.

hi all :) I was among the missing -- I was reading at mom's but didn't sign her off to post myself. Monday (maybe i reported this?) I walked/jogged 3.6 miles - Tuesday I took the day off - Wed I hit mom's TM and logged in 4 miles walking/jogging - Thursday I walked 45 mins with evansmom and today I did the DA Shrink your Female Fat zones for some strength training. Tomorrow I will walk/jog.
I have been doing better on the eating aspect. I'm still on the higher end of my summer range which is 7 lbs from goal. I'm taking DD to movies tonight and I WILL NOT eat popcorn!! somebody ask me tomorrow so I know I have to answer!
I've been counting pts in my head - not quite as good I know - but i have turned away from temptations and that is a step in the right direction!

All right, I did my l-o-o-o-n-n-n-g-g-g walk tonight, since I will be really busy tomorrow. Unfortunately, I had to cut it short. I wore the wrong kind of sock! I had thrown on an old pair (read threadbare) to keep my feet warm today. (Can you say cold ? ) Also, they were nylon. Not my usual nylon/cotton/spandex? mix. They slipped and slid all over the ball of my foot. I had to stop and fix, but even with that, I ended up with (broken!) blisters on both of my feet. OUCH!!! So, we had to stop early. Sorry Mary Liz. :(
That aside, though, I have added another 335 minutes of exercise, and I still have tomorrow! Maybe I can squeeze in another few minutes but I'm over the 1000 minutes! Yeah!
If I don't get back on tomorrow, keep the faith, everyone and remember: Just put one foot in front of the other because slow and steady wins the race......and the Donald medal!

I got up early today and was at Sears at 7:00 for their Super Saturday specials. I bought two new pairs of running shoes that were on clearance and then they gave me an additional 30% off. I don't care if they only last a short time for that money. I walked very quickly around Sears to get warmed up. I paid for my purchases and then headed around the mall. I managed to do 4 miles even though I was supposed to do 5 today. My sisters and I are headed to Stratford with our Mom today to a play and dinner so hopefully we'll do some strolling while we're there. Tomorrow I am taking a rest day. I don't want to burn out at this short stage, but I'm anxious to keep going because my times aren't near as good as some of yours.
Onward..sing Ho for the Expedition! Sing Ho for the life of a bear!! (We've been watching Piglet today).

8 miles in just beautiful weather conditions. I actually think I did 8.5 in 2 hours but that is only guessing anyway all showered now and off to shop a bit :p
Saw Evansmom (my niece) while I was out - she was running with 2 friends practicing for a 1/2 marathon in Oct. It was a surprise to both of us to see one another. Actually she was on my usual path but still fun to see her ::yes::
ohMom you did so well - kept your word about no popcorn and out to walk this AM - I am feeling like you - I need to increase my mileage some.
Now since I did so well on my walk I am going to make sure that I stay OP today - I really do want to get to my goal by Oct 1st - I think this is the first time in a long time that I really feel like I CAN DO IT !!
Off to use my new Disney VISA card to get those reward dollars ohMom says I can use for froo froo drinks :wave2:

Hello everyone!
I signed on with the Central Florida chapter of Team In Training and plan on running (with walking most likely) the Marathon on 1/9/04.
CarolA saw my post on the theme parks board and sent me over here.
I fell like doing nothing compared to you guys!
I was up to 4 miles running and then got a bad cold and was sidelined for 2 weeks about a month ago.
At the end of the cold, I decided to begin the south beach diet as well as resume exercise. I am down 15 pounds in the 4 weeks on it (I was blessed with high phase I loss that is adverstised). And no flames on the low-carb falsehood--I am so loaded with carbs, so no worries!
I am now up to 2 miles running and did my Long? run today of 3 miles. Left my house too late and it was a bit swealtering in the blazing sun--so it was a bit of a run/walk combination. Had I left an hour earlier...it would have been more running, but oh well!
I have raised $75 for my charity now and starting my letter writing campaign.
Is anybody else doing the Disney Marathon for Team in Training for LLS or anyplace else?
I am anxious to see how the pick up pace of my training will be--word from the coach is that there are so many different ways to train and they are big into the DO NOT OVERDO IT kind of training. I am surprised, but 3x per week is working more in my favor than the 5x per week running and fast increase of distance I was doing prior to my cold.
Anyway--sorry for the long post--just wanted to introduce myself!
I'll update my signature at some point :)
I run 3x per week and plan on adding 2 cross training days in the form of swimming as that is the cheapest alternative available to me.
My run days are Monday and Wednesday on the Treadmill and Saturdays in the outdoors. Xtraining most likely will be on Tues and Thurs.
Blessings to all and good luck with your training!

Hi all!
New to this thread but wanted to join some kind of "support group!" ;)
I have signed up for the Disney marathon. My sis ran it 2 years ago, hubby ran it last year, and my goal is to finish it in January.
I am NOT a runner by any means. I am on a 27-week training program and am starting a new diet tomorrow. (Hoping losing some weight will make me faster!) I just don't want to get picked up by the "slow police" at the race!
Would be interested to hear what training programs others are using. I am doing Galloway.
