When I first did one of those BMI calculations, my number was 53, yikes! I was classified as morbidly obese. I did my calculation again this afternoon and my number has dropped from 53 to 39 and I've dropped a classification. Now I'm just plain old obese. Hey, I'll take it. One day I'll be in the next category "overweight" and when I hit a BMI of 25, I'll be "healthy"!

I know those calculators don't take into consideration body type and muscle mass and I've been meaning to enter my measurements on www.mybodycomp.com to get a more accurate number but this is a start.

I was a little depressed when I entered 140 pounds and found out I'd still be classified as "overweight" unless I weighed 134 pounds but like my hubby said, I can do it! I just don't know if mentally I'm ready to readjust my goal weight when I have my sights set on 140. Oh well, just thought I'd share that I am no longer considered "morbidly obese"! Ya gotta take your victories when and where you can get them! :sunny:

Congratulations Lisa!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc You're hard work has really paid off. You are doing so well. I hope that you are proud of your accomplishments!! :hyper:

BTW Lisa I wouldn't worry too much about changing your goal weight because of the BMI. According to a documentary I watched, some doctors in the UK think that the MBI is not very meaningful. There was even talk of not using it anymore. Apparently one of our top sprinters was overweight according to the BMI. He is all muscle!

Congratulations! I know what you're feeling; when I finally went to a website and it didn't calculate and say "You are obese" but "Your weight is normal" I was overjoyed! Keep up the good work and you'll be there before too long!

Lisa - Way too go. Jus think how much more healthy you are now!!! Also, you should try to find out percent body fat. That can be a really good index of where you should be. Don't worry about your goal now. Like someone said, amount of muscle has a lot to do with it. With as much as you work out, I bet that your percent body fat will be well below what is considered overweight by the time you get to 140!

Way to go!

Congratulations!!!!

I know - it's truly a wonderful feeling. I can't wait to get into a more normal range, but I've dropped from 58.1 to 33, and yeah, it feels great.

Keep up the amazing work!

Lisa,

Be so proud of yourself . Look how far you've come. Your half way or more there!!

I remember rather vividly the first time I looked at a chart on the back of a box of pantyhose and I was a queen size . Just about dropped the box. Then the first of many times that I was looking at the height weight chart and it put me in the obese column!! Felt like I got kicked in the stomach. Could have used a kick in the pants! I'm still in the obese range but I'm closing in on Overweight. Stange goals for us plus size women. What do you think the next catch word for larger women will be? LOL!!! It is just a word , please look at it that way and be proud to be healthy and strong and working towards your goal.

Congratulations! Those are my "secret" goals. I am not telling anyone how much I weighed when I started until I reach my goal (at least that's what I'm saying now). So when I reach those (I went from obese to overweight a couple of weeks ago...according to one but obese according to another!) I celebrate quietly!

I'm looking forward to hitting that "healthy" on all possible BMI calculators!
