I was looking at the Alamo codes that came in the Disney Visa newsletter and I can save $23 on an intermediate vs. my Emerald Aisle reservation. I made this a long time ago for $143 with the Priceless code. While standing in line doesn't appeal to me, I can add my *********** number when it arrives and hopefully be able to stand in a shorter line. Then, do I get to still pick out my car or do they assign one to me?
I know the pickings on the Aisle have been slim lately and there are only two of us so I don't need a larger car. In fact, if I downgrade to a compact, I can save even more.
Since the saved amount isn't earth shattering, I am wondering if it is worth the wait. Any suggestions?

You can pick your own car at Alamo. They share the cars with National.

That's what I thought. I am on the fence though..............National's service has always been great.

was checking alamo rates today for an upcoming trip, and tried to enter my Quik Silver number but it was rejected
thus, i called the Quik Silver number on the back of the card i had
the representative that i talked to said they are revamping the whole program and although it will still be free to sign up there will be conditions applied
if you have been "deactivated" ( have not used the card within the last twelve months ) the only way you can "reactivate it" will be to "get" 5 Alamo rentals under your belt
if you are wanting to sign up for the first time, according to the representative, you will not be able to do so until you have the same 5 Alamo rentals
he said they had taken the "kiosk" machines out of the system
he said there are thousands of people who are in a similar situation as i am due to this new program
he also said that a lot of the locations, orlando being one of them ( but not all locations ) not only do they share facilities but also cross share the "fleet" and that in orlando you are assigned a "class" of car at the desk, and when you get to the garage you go to the Alamo aisle having that class and can choose whatever is in that aisle ( so it is very similar to National )
he actually verified this all with the orlando office while i was on the phone on hold
he said they were going towards the "total sharing concept" with the company in the future but was not certain when and how fast
alas, there was nothing i could do about getting Quik Silver reinstated so if i do rent alamo it will be a "long wait" maybe.....the last time we were in orlando the Alamo line was queue like a Disney ride
oh well, that would get us some early "standing in line" practice

That's about what I got for the intermediate (maybe a dollar or two less). I still have to wait a few more days for the *********** number via email. I think I read on Mousesavers that there is a separate line for *********** members. That is, if I get the number.
In the meantime, I also checked Dollar. They also have an almost identical rate when using the MAG promo. If I nix the National reservation, then I would probably go with Dollar.
Pros's for National - no lines, no waiting very slight possibility of driving a better car
Pro's for Dollar - cheaper, better service than Alamo, imho
Decisions, decisions............
Good ones to have to make though :D

I went through the same "drill" when I tried to use my QS number with a coupon. It worked very well without the coupon.
If it is working without a coupon, you have not be deactivated.
What you need to do is call QS and have the corporate number removed from your profile and the coupon will work and so will you QS number.

no it iis not working either way
since i have not used the card within the last year, it has been deactivated and i could not "re enrol" due to the impending changes for *********** coming up ( sounds very similar to national's except you have to have 5 rentals before you can re enroll in my case )
thus, "usage" within the last year may be the difference in your situation
he did say they were targetting people who use "alamo" a lot, not just occasionally ( trying to build consumer allegiance i guess )
