There's so much talk on the boards about New Jersey week that I thought I'd start a thread for us Jerseyans that are going down for Jersey Week. Maybe we can share our tips and get some ideas from each other.

I'll be at the Poly from Oct 30th through Nov. 7th. Me, DD and DS going to MNNSHP on the 31st. DH and DS (16 - who would never be seen at MNNSHP) are going to Universal's HHN on the 31st. Taking Amtrack down. With AAA discount got a great rate of $562 for 5. For those of you flying, I've been told that you can get a good price if you're willing to go out of Atlantic City Airport. Hoping for great weather. A little confused on what I should pack:crazy: . Planning on buying an AP but still waiting for AP rates to come out for that week. Do you all know about splitting you stay?? If you checking in on 30th, that's regular season so if you didn't split your stay you will be paying regular season price for the whole week even though Oct. 31st starts value season. You have to check in on 30th, check out on the 31st, check back in on the 31st and then the rest of the week you'll be charged for value season. Hmmm....let's see....can't think of any other tips right now but if anyone has anything to share, please post!!

Hey Neighbors-

We are from Marlton. We'll be at the Poly from 11/1-11/9! We're flying down on AirTran (decent rate of $160/pp)!

ADIDAD - we just got home from Ocean City. Our kids love it there almost as much as Disney!!!

gjerseygirl - what longhouse did you request? We are staying GVC. Our kids will be 5 and 22 months when we arrrive. This is our first time staying at the Poly and travelling during Jersey week. We usually stay at the Epcot resorts. We are going on the 5+2...works out better for us than AP...Jersey week next year is later than this year, so we would only get eight days off the pass and we weren't too hopeful the resort rate would make up for it. We will probably get APs next year b/c Jersey week is later than it is the following year, so we will get two trips out of it!

This was a great idea for a thread! Hope to get some good tips from experienced Jersey weekers!

I can't wait to see you all there!

We will be there from the 6th - 13th. The week after the NJEA has always been a week of 1/2 days for my kids. This year they moved it to the following week, so my DD8 will miss an entire full week of school. We are staying off site with my mil in her time share, a 3 bedroom condo. My mil can't get the previous week, or the week after so, we are going anyway!!

I am staying on site with DH this coming Thursday - Monday. He surprised me with an adults only get away.

Hi All:

Chiming in from Jersey. We're going down in mid-October. Hadn't heard about Jersey week before we booked our trip. We're flying out of A.C. Airport. We would rather go out of Phila. like we usually do but A.C. had much cheaper prices on Spirit Airlines.

Have a good time!

:D

Just what is Jersey Week? Are there special weeks for other states? Do people from that state get special rates?

Belleville girl here...I've never heard of Jersey week, now I wish I was going then. Anyway, I guess I'll have my own mini-Jersey Week starting this Saturday. By the way, I found an amazing rate flying out of Newark through Delta Song.::MinnieMo

Jersey Week is held roughly the 1st week of November at Disney World. That week, WDW celebrates everything about New Jersey - our customs, favorite foods, sells NJ merchandise, etc. Many, many people from Jersey come for the festivities. Right now, Disney only does it for New Jersey, but is thinking of doing other states like Delaware or Rhode Island next. It's great!!!!! :teeth: :teeth:

OK OK - ONLY KIDDING!!!!!!!!! Couldn't resist! "Jersey Week" is simply a week - usually the 1st week of November - when NJ schools are closed for a few days for a large teacher's convention. Since schools are closed, many people make a week's vacation out of it. :) No special rates or anything, though that sounds like a great idea!!! :)

This year I hope to be there (if job permits!) for my 1st "Jersey Week". I'll probably drive down and take the AutoTrain home. I already have tickets for MNHHSP on Oct 31, and maybe go on possibly Oct 29 too, if I can sneak off a couple days early! I will be at Wilderness Lodge, unless I can get a great AP rate at the Poly or Contemporary! :) :)

Hey Hey in Marlton!! What airport are you flying out of on Airtran. That's a great rate!! I have to tell my friends that are flying about that. We requested the Nuie longhouse. Its close to the pool and Ceremonial house. Plus I'm a smoker:rolleyes: I've never stayed at the Poly before. I'm soooo excited!! I've always wanted to since I started going to WDW at about 10 years old!!

I have a feeling they're gonna take jersey week away from us next year because everyone is complaining that we're getting out of school June 27!!!

And speaking of tips, anyone that's been down there before the first week of Nov. I would appreciate some packing tips. I'm starting to pack already (okay, okay I know that's a little over the top) and I'm sooo confused on what to pack.

Hey binigrl417: Do you have kids? If you don't that's why you never heard of Jersey Week. Or if you're kids are not of school age. Don't worry, I know alot of Joisians that go in Aug. too! It's supposed to be a great time to go. You got a great rate out of Newark because the time you are going but the airlines have wisened up to Jersey week and the prices shoot up for the first week of Nov. (they not stupid!)

Our conference week is usually 3 days but in my school district (Middletown) they now give them the whole week. But that's not the case in most of the school districts and parents just take the kids out for the other days!:teeth:

:rotfl: That was sooooooooo funny!!! Wait, I have to get up off the floor!! But wouldn't that be great!! In our shoprite, they have these T-shirts and sweatshirts that say the the local towns like Holmdel and Middletown and they also have ones that say Jersey Girl. I told all my friends that are going we should all buy one and wear them down there. Then they don't have to ask us what exit we're from!!:teeth: Hope to see you at the Poly!!

Haddonfield girl here... went down last year, wishing I was going again this year.

One tip I'd recommend if you are driving is to make a PS at the Cape May Cafe for dinner. The all you can eat seafood meal was, I thought, a good value for the buck. Then explore the Boardwalk breifly (a bit disappointed with this area myself, since we have the real deal at the shore) and pop into the International Gateway for Illuminations. We went to the bridge beteen GB and France and had a decent view right up to the fence without anyone in front of us within 15 minutes of the start of the show! The absolute BEST part was the quick exit back through International Gateway, a 10 minute walk to our car and back to our room at POR within another 10 minutes. I figure that we probably wouldn't have even made the front gate in 20 minutes with the exiting-the-park crowds being the nightmare that it is.

Have fun! I'll be with you in spirit.

You know, it's funny you should say that. I refuse to stay at he BC, YC or GF because I feel that we have that right here. The real deal. Especially in Cape May!! I love Cape May. So why do I need to go all the way down to FL to stay in Cape May!!:hyper:

Hey GJerseygirl,
Just wanted to say Hi neighbor! We are also from Middletown. I was so excited when they changed the school schedule to a full week off for teacher's convention. My oldest DD is just going into middle school, and I was thinking that we would have to cut back how much time we went so she didn't miss much school. They better not take it away!! We are going to do the Disney Cruise, this time, will probably stay a couple of nights after at the parks, unless I see a really good rate at Vero. Haven't decided on where we are staying the first Friday yet, either WDW, or Cocoa Beach.

Hey gjerseygirl & Donnainnj,

I am also from Monmouth County. We are in Manalapan. I wish my district gave us the week off!! The week of 1/2 days that month is a killer. We usuall get the 2 NJEA days, then 1/2 days and a day off for Veterans day. They changed it just for this year. Oh well, I hope my DD teacher is nice :). I am sure my DD isn't then only one to be out that week.

I can't wait till Thursday....Pop, Poly, GF, and AKL, here I come!!!!
(Yes I am crazy, we are resort hopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Freehold family of 5 will be in WDW 10/28 to 11/5. MNSSHP on 10/31. Got terrific air fare on Delta Song out of JFK for $125/person. Hotel still up in the air. Have a ressie at AKL at a really great rate, but hoping to get into Poly if AP rates are released.

Hi JoiseyMom,

I'm in Manalapan also. We used to get 3 days off during Jersey Week - Election Day plus the 2 NJEA days. Now it's only the 2 NJEA days. We will also be on vacation that week but not Disney :sad2: We will be on a cruise that week. I already know that DS has a teacher who has a reputation for 2-3 hours a night of homework  I guess I know what DS will be spending his time on during the half days!:teacher:

P.S. Love your user name!

Checking in from Toms River, NJ. We are taking advantage of NJEA. Our school is closed Nov. 4 and 5th. We are flying down to Disney on Friday Oct. 29. We booked the Land/Sea package from Oct. 31 through Nov. 7. We will be at the Poly from Oct. 31 through Nov.4 then we will be on the Disney Wonder. I am so excited this is our first time going on a Disnye cruise. We are booked right now for Oct 29 and 30 at the Radisson Parkway Resort, but we are hoping for some codes and we will switch to a disney resort. We have tickets to the MNSSHP on Oct. 29. I am going with DH, DS11, DD7 and DD4.

We're going Oct. 29 - Nov. 7 and splitting our stay between the WL and Cypress Pointe Grand Villas. The kids will miss three days of school - wish we had the full week off. We're flying out of PHL and our flights are sold out going and coming back, so I expect to see plenty New Jerseyans on the plane.

Hey JerseyMom,

Thanks, I love your user name too!! What grade is your DS going into?? My DD is going into third. I haven't heard anything about her teacher yet. There are going to be a lot of kids out that week in our district. But that is what happens when you switch things after...hmmm... I have had kids in the district for 12 years (my oldest will be 21 this coming November). My DD will also be playing catch up during the week of 1/2 days!! Well at least I know she will be busy :).

We will also be there during Jersey week!! Oct 29-31 at YC and then a move to WL Oct 31 - Nov 7!! It is a great week to visit. The crowds aren't bad, the weather is great and the park is decorated for Halloween and there is the food and wine festival!! You just cant beat it!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!!

DS is going into 4th grade. If your DD is going to Taylor Mills or Millford Brook, PM me because I may know something about her teacher - if DS didn't have the teacher then maybe one of his friends did.

I am hoping that DS's 4th grade teacher will give us some of his work ahead of time so he can at least get started on it - but I'm not counting on it. Some teachers have a policy that they will not give work ahead of time if it is for vacation.

Wow - I just noticed from your original post that you will be in 4 different resorts. How many days are you staying? We are going down on the 25th for 10 days and will be at CSR, CR and then the last night at the Hyatt in the airport (morning flight out).

Another Middletown resident here. We will staying at Universal 10/29 and 10/30 then checking in at BWV on 10/31 until 11/06. It's hard to beleive that I got a decent fare 2 weeks ago flying out of EWR on Continental non stop for $175pp and only $88 for an infant in a seat. We are flying out on the 28th and staying at MCO airport hotel I got for $45 on priceline. I saved so much on the airfare by flying out on a Thursday (1 day early), I don't mind paying for an extra night. This way we can get an early start at US.

If anything they will take away the two extra days from us. I don't think they will take away Election Day because the schools are used as polling places and the days off for the convention will never be taken away. Why do we have off on Columbus Day? And why do we need a 4 day weekend for President's Day? This year we have two 3 day weekends in a row. One for Lincoln's birthday and the other for President's day. We were also given a day off for Passover. And don't forget, this year is a contract year. Remember what happened with the last contract. At least the teacher's contract says they can't work beyond July 1st.

Tinkerbelle,

We'll see you at WL. We'll be there Nov 3-9.

DS will miss 2 days of school, Mon & Tues. But the difference in airfare was ridiculous. For him to miss one day, it was double. Now all the airfare on 11/3 is pretty well full out of Philly

JerseyMom,

Yes we are staying at four resorts. My DH wanted to surprise me with an adults only getaway, and orginally booked the nights of the 6, 7, & 8th at the Poly. When I started looking for a hotel for the nite of the 5th, we are landing in Orlando at 9:10 PM, I found out that Pop Century was the same price as the Holiday Inn I was looking at, so I booked it. Then I started thinking, that I really wanted to stay at AKL, and I got the rate for one nite there, and added it and then decided (with DH's input) to stay one nite at the Grand Floridan too. So we dropped two nights at the Poly and decided to Resort Hop!! I figured it this way, it was only 10.00 more than the nights at the Poly, and I get to stay at all these great resorts (Savannah View at AKL). Since we will only have one carryon piece of luggage each and no kids, it made sense. As a side note we are flying out of AC on Spirit Air.

For our Jersey week trip we (DH, Me, DD8 and DS3) are driving down. We will be staying with MIL in a 3 bedroom condo off site.

JoisyMom - have a wonderful trip. With no kids resort hopping will be much easier. I love AKL. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Poly and GF. While at AKL enjoy sitting on your balcony watching the animals - at least until the heat and humidity drive you back inside.

Well Im not from Jersey but I have been told I sound like I am. hehe. I was born and raised in New Orleans and contrary to what many believe, we do not talk Cajun. :) The NO accent is somewhat northen sounding. I have had people tell me I sound like im from NJ, Boston and NY. :) I will be at the Poly 10/31 to 11/6 so with my accent I should fit right in :) Looking forward to meeting all you NJ folks! :)

JerseyMom,

I have been to the Poly and LOVED it. That is why my DH initially picked that resort. It is his favorite. We stayed there over Christmas 2001 and did the silver plan. WOW, what a vacation. We got the best rate ever, and it was a last minute trip. He made the ressies on Thursday and we were down there on Saturday or Sunday if I remember correctly. We will never see prices like that ever again!! AKL, GF and Pop will be new to us. Any dinner suggestions for 10:00 PM at nite for Thursday??

Checking in from Exit 0 on the GSP. We're arriving at SSR on the 30th (Oct) for the duration of Jersey Week and we can't wait! Six of us are driving to Fla for this trip (4A, 2C)- the airfare prices have really gone up (from Philly and A.C), if one can get a flight at all. We've heard from others that the weather is great and the crowds are better than during the summer.

Just one reminder for those travelling that week - don't forget to get your absentee ballots and vote since we'll all be away on Election Day. As we all know- every vote counts!

If Thursday is when you are at AKL, try Jiko - very nice place for a nice romantic dinner. If not, there are a number of good choices in DTD. Also, while at AKL, give Boma a try as well. On our last 4 day stay, we ate there 3 times for breakfast! That's how much we loved it. This trip we will be giving Ohana a try. Was going to try Kona Cafe but they have Koko Puffs on the menu. DS's guinea pig named Cocoa Puff just died and I'm afraid seeing the Koko Puffs will remind him again and make him very sad.

Hi NorthCapeMayMom - I was just down in your area last week - I have lots of cousins there. And you are right about the absentee ballots - I have to remember to get mine.

Hey Disneyforme33: Look for me at the Poly. I already posted what I'd look like:teeth: :wave2: ! Have a great time on the cruise...it sounds GREAT....maybe next time!

hey, gjerseygirl, just got back from LBI. rained most of the day then sun came out. can't wait to get back. we usually swim in shipbottom. Also, if you go to the manahawkin flea market on saturday or sunday you can get "Jersey Girl" t-shirts for just $4.

I have several.

last year went to food and wine festival which is superb. don't miss it.

sorry we can't go this year. DD starting high school and she joined color guard....want to wait a year and see how things go.

but all "You Guys" have fun........

see ya next year though.

and
btw,

HHN at Universal is really scary but lots and lots of fun

We went to Beach Haven. We didn't get to swim on Sun. but Mon. was beautiful. I love LBI. I wish I would have gotten to that flea market. $4 for those shirts is a great price. I know what you mean about color guard. I was so happy when DS decided not to play football this year 'cause I know I would have had to fight with his coach about getting the time off...and then he probably wouldn't have played the rest of the season anyway! So we're better off. As much as I luuvv to watch him play football...I love WDW better!!!

Wow!!! That's a great rate out of Newark Liberty! Just for leaving on Thurs. Huh!! I'll have to pass that along to my "flying friends". We were going to stay at Universal the first few days but when I called (back in Jan.) the Royal Pacific was booked solid. I coudn't believe it. I still don't know why. Then they offered me the Hard Rock at $250 a night. I said the heck with that, if I get the AP rate at the Poly it'llbe cheaper than that and even if not, I'd rather stay at the Poly. So we're staying there the whole time. Oh well.

About their days off, I agree with you. Take something else away....not NJ week!!::yes::

We've heard from others that the weather is great and the crowds are better than during the summer.

Just one reminder for those travelling that week - don't forget to get your absentee ballots and vote since we'll all be away on Election Day. As we all know- every vote counts!

You're right!! Already have my absentee ballot!!!::yes::

You may want to check their website if you are still interested in staying at US. http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/orlando/website/resort_hotels/rp_rates_reservation.html
Rooms are available at the RPR. I originally booked two nights with the FAN club rate ($157). I decided to get an Annual Pass and dropped the room rate to $129. When I factored in all the costs (2 day pass, room rate, and the cost of meals) it was cheaper for me to purchase the annual pass since it gives a discount at restaurants.

Just to update. I got an email with discount, so now I am at the Poly from Oct. 29-Nov. 4. I got Cindy reservations for October 31. I feel like this is my lucky week.
I booked my air about 2 weeks ago. We are leaving on Friday so we did not get the $175 rate but got $258. on Continental out of Newark. I was pretty happy with that considering every time I checked rate before it was over $500 round trip. We like to fly out of Atlantic City but the rates were very high.
I look forward to meeting you all at the Poly pool. I won't have the big hair, but I will have a Pina Colada in my hand.

disneyforme33, did you have an existing reservation at Poly before you received the email? I did not, received the email, and tried to get into the Poly Oct 28 to Nov. 5 but was told no availability for the discounts for these dates (which are nearly identical to yours). When did you book the discount? Maybe I should call again.

jsfein-I had the Land/Sea booked from Oct. 31 through Nov. 7, with the land portion at the Poly. I wanted to add 2 days on before hand. I booked the discount on Monday but only needed it for the nights of 10/29 and 30.

Well, I'd stay at the Beach Club for the pool alone! But I'd cheerfully pass on the Boardwalk Inn. I love Cape May with its Victorian flair and its restaurants; Wildwood with the Doo-Wop archetecture, its rides and tacky games; and Atlantic City for the bright lights and LONG boardwalk. And Lucy? Well, she's just adorable!!! Our shore communities are so varied, each with its own personality. I know that such a small area at the Disney Boardwalk can't really capture all of that... it just doesn't say "fudgey wudgey" to me! I thought Disney could have had more (any?) street performers the evenning we went. I thought the games at $3 a pop was a bit steep.... 3 kids can pick your pocket pretty quickly here, even if there were only 3 games to pick from.

The Boardwalk is the one area at WDW where I actually felt ripped off. I know Disney is expensive and I'm willing to pay the price because I get a good value per $.... just not at the Boardwalk. So my advice is .... forgetaboutit.

Hey! I have a hissy when I go to Pt. Pleasant and the games are $2.00 a pop! And that's the real deal, not a Disney sanitized version of the Shore. I live right near Keansburg and they still have their quarter wheels!! I love it!! The kids always come home with some prize or another. That's why I'd rather stay in another resort. Hey....since I don't fly the Poly's the closest I'm ever gonna get to Hawaii!!

We currently live in Flanders, Morris County (just down the road from HugsforEeyore) but only moved up here a year ago after living in (most recent to oldest) Millstone, Old Bridge, Freehold and North Brunswick. DH grew up in East Brunswick and is a 1981 graduate if anyone out there went to EBHS.

Our kids are 6.5 and just 2 so we're still able to pull ds#1 out of school. We're going this year from 12/4-12/11. But in another year or so we won't be able to do that. I'm thinking of trying Jersey week, but we only get the 2 days off for the convention (all you lucky ones that get a week must be psyched). If we think we can swing it 2 years in a row, it will make sense to go in 2005, buy APs and then go down in 2006 as well.

However, we're trying to get a big trip together with other friends from all over the US (an internet group of families with kids born in Feb 98...ds#1) so we might have to change 2006 to Christmas week.

Anyone going down later on who might want to hook up for a quick hello? Anyone nearby want to be friends with a Disney fanatic who is making everyone around her crazy with her obsession...?

Hey there! Montclair girl here. I didn't know about jersey week cauz I don't have kids, but me and my boyfriend are going in September so I have a totally random question for all the Jerseites...
I have reservations for the Poly but I was toying with the idea of staying at the Beach Club (because of the pool). Having grown up going down the shore summer after summer I thought maybe it would be a little bit of a repetitive theme staying at the BC. For example the beach theme or the bars and eateries on the boardwalk...I wanted to experience something I coudn't get right here in Jersey and or in NYC which is 15 minutes away.
Anyone feel that way too? I want to make sure I made the right choice in staying at the Poly. I wanted to feel like I was staying somewhere "different" which is why I chose it. Anyway, have fun during jersey week!

Maybe we will run into each other in the lobby while rubbing Humphreys Nose!!

We are going down for a few days. Embarrassed to say we have been there 50-60 times - usually stay at our vacation club or Beach/Yacht Club Taking our 13 year old and our college student son is meeting us there. We are trying out Universal Hard Rock for two nights 11/9 & 10 and going to the Polynesian for the first time also for the last three nights. We are going to the Very Merry Christmas Party for the first time too - soooo excited about that.

Saw another Ocean City, NJ girl also - a big hello to you.

Hi - we're from Wayne and we'll be there for part of Jersey week. Hoping to leave right on the 4th and stay right through the 13th. My daughter will miss a week of 1st Grade, but she's willing to "sacrifice"!!

When I saw this thread, I just HAD to see if there was anyone posting from Wayne! I grew up in Wayne and taught for a few years before I got married and moved out of state. I read this thread and think this would be me going for Jersey Week! HAVE FUN and say hey to all our fellow Jersey girls for me! :)

This is so interesting to me! I am from New Jersey Haddon Heights until we moved to Maryland many years ago but my heart is still in New Jersey, along with most of my family. We just got back from Ocean City NJ and go as often as possible. My two favorite places are O.C. and Disney! As I work at the AC Airport, I have to say there isn't really any hotel that would be described as close. There are some hotels on the Black Horse Pike in Pleasantville, about 4-5 miles away. Anything closer I would probably stay away from. If I recall, there is a Clarion, a Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn. There are others on the White Horse Pike as well but they are a little further.

Hope that helps....

Guess I need to chime in here as well.... we are from Cherry Hill and will be at WDW Jersey Week as well. Leaving after school on Friday, 11/3 and driving down. Departing WDW after a tank topping buffet breakfast on 11/11. We are driving both ways.

In Cherry Hill, schools are closed Thursday and Friday of that week, so we get 8 days for the price of 3 school days. The kids bring their work with them so they don't fall behind.

Anyone else from Cherry Hill?
