View Full Version : Pepper Market Food Court = Ripoff?

So I was reading the review on the Pepper Market Food Court at Coronado, and I had a suspicion that it sounded familar, and that was confirmed once I read the part about them giving you a card with checkboxes to have stamped at different food stations.
It is completely identical to Marche Movenpick, a restaurant I visited in Toronto, which I believe also has locations in Boston and other cities in Canada. I went to the restaurant on a whim, when I was in Toronto for one night, and me and my friends were out at like 1 in the morning. We didn't know the area, so didn't want to go to a club or bar where we didn't know what to expect, so we happened by this place on the first floor of an office building. There were tons of people inside, even tourists with younger kids, so we had to check it out. I loved the concept, you get your card, walk around inside to a huge amount of different little food stations, find a seat in a number of different venues (such as comfy sofas or at a bar or at tables) and basically as the name implies, move and pick!
Has anyone else been to Movenpick? Does any one know if any other threads on the forum have picked up on this idea? I'd love to read what comparisions other people drew!
I'm excited to check out this restaurant, but I'm also upset, because this is MY idea, which I stole!!!! :p

Pepper Market is just a food court, like a cafeteria. The only reason you get the card stamped is so you can pay after you eat rather than before you eat, since it is trying to present itself as more of an "upscale" type of food court.

Yep, just a food court...and the food is not impressive so don't make a special trip over to eat there.
Very expensive!

I used a meal voucher there on my last trip and was happy with it. We were already at CS because my BF had a massage scheduled there. I don't know if I would make a special trip over there because it takes quite a bit of time, but if you are in that area I think it is worth it.

The Pepper Market is not just your ordinary food court. I don't know of any food courts that you have a host/hostess seat you, you get drinks served along with refills and condiments, you can get a great ribeye steak or prime rib and other great meals (try the Wet Burrito) along with the ability to order alcholic beverages. The Pepper Market is definitely an upscale food court. And if you do have the ability to get vouchers, I got a $36.50 meal for $15.00.
If your looking for an ordinary food court, you'll have to visit on of the other WDW resorts.

I live in the Boston area and I have been to the Marshe Movenpick here. And yes, the concept of the Pepper Market at CSR is exactly the same. The Pepper Market is a bit smaller than the Marshe here, and has less stations, but it still has a great selection and the food was very good.

Buzz/Mario - I will be staying at CSR next month for 12 nights. I bought 14 vouchers for my family of 4. Please explain what you ordered that was worth $36.50 at Pepper Market! I have studied their menu from allearsnet and the most expensive meal seems to be the prime rib.
P.S. Love your CSR site -- convinced me to try this resort.

Sadly tho, the Pepper Market is a foodcourt. It is a very good one, and IMO it's a big step up from the foodcourts at the other Moderates and a big reason to pick CSR among the Moderates.

Hope this helps. I was off a bit.
The most expensive was the ribeye steak. I was so full when I finished. Try the cake with the oreo cookie on top. That was to die for...
Coronado Springs Pepper Market
Steak Dinner with Potato and Veggies = $17.95
Side Salad = $3.95
Drink = $1.95 (smoothies not allowed anymore)
Dessert = $3.95
Tax & Gratuity = $6.41
$34.21

Thanks for the info! Although I'll still use my theory on the name when I build my ripoff - EatAlotEnPuke. Hope that's not german.

Nah, that might come out "Essen Sie viel und erbrechen Sie sich" or we could shorten it to "Vielessen/erbrechen". Ja, let's go to the old VE&E! or we could go classy in French and head on down to the "Marché Mangerbeaucoupetvomir"...:teeth:

I was told I couldn't. I guess it depends who you get. The CM at the register also looked over the items on our card to make sure they were all eligible. I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a try. We were there 6/24 through 7/2/04.

I live in Toronto and have been to both Marche and TPM. They are both very similar in the way that you get your food and pay for it. I'd take Marche any day over TPM but TPM is a very good deal if you are on the DDP. You get a lot for your money.
And, you eat alot!
I also enjoyed the girl who didn't stamp my card for pastries and then refused to put a stamp there when I approached her about it. :confused3 :goodvibes

The concept is the same but the food is nowhere near as good at the Pepper Market. My meal was so disgusting that I spoke to the manager :scared:
The marche here closed down and I really miss it. The strawberry crepes were amazing!

OK, I've got to know what 'meal vouchers' your talking about. Is this something different than the Dining plan? If so, how do you get them?
Thanks for your help!

How does one go about getting vouchers?

Thanks, pumpkinboy - I was just coming to post and make the correction that you posted.
I was once at a Movenpick in Toronto and it was nothing like what we had at home. They are one of the largest ice cream vendors in Germany, and we used to visit the ice cream cafes for sundaes with ice cream and alcohol.

This is an old post. Meal vouchers are no longer available to the general public. People use to be able to buy them for a reduced price and they were a great deal, but now I think they are only available for certain groups and they aren't the great bargain they use to be.
