Just curious...is there a difference between renting points and transferring points? (Can you tell that we are true novices?)

Thanks for your help!

Transferring points is a transaction between DVC members. Both parties must be members (have a DVC account) in order to transfer points.

When a non-member rents points, he/she is actually renting a reservation/stay from the member. Points have no value to non-members. Only a member can make (or change) a reservation made through DVC.

Most members price the stay/reservation based on the number of points it cost the member to make. That is why you commonly see posts offering points for rent at $xx per point.

So if i needed a few extra points, as a DVC member, I would not rent them from someone? They would be given (or sold?)by someone, who doesn't want to lose their points, to me and placed into my account?

lts862,

To clarify, a DVC owner can rent points using a reservation that another member books. Any non-member also has this option. The owner retains control of the reservation and must make any changes or bookings.

A DVC member can also receive points from another member's account. The benefit here is that once the points are transferred, the recipient (i.e. purchasing party) has control over them just as if they were their own allotment. There are restrictions on what points can be transferred from one member to another (cannot transfer banked/borrowed points) and how many transfers can be sent or received.

The transfer is a one-time increase/decrease in points...it does not carry forward to future use years
