We weren't planning on returning to WDW until 2006...though I was secretly hoping for a "surprise" trip and low and behold....we are going to VWL fron Jan 22-30, 2005....Thank you Tinkerbell for the pixie dust!!! :hyper:

This will be our first time staying at VWL. Would love to hear what others love about it and the cool stuff to do.

It will be Me, DH, DS (8 & 6) and DD 14 months.

If the weather isn't too cold, you could take the hayride over at FW. It goes all around FW and then stops to watch Wishes from across Bay Lake. They pipe in the music, so you get the experience without the Main Street crowd.

We've never been the flag family, but that's supposed to be pretty cool. You and your family can go to the top of the main lodge and raise the flags in the morning.

I think there is also a behind the scenes tour of the lodge. You can also pick up a sheet at check-in and do a Hidden Mickey hunt.

Another thing you can do if it's not too cold is rent a watermouse and tool around the lake for an hour. They're faster than they look and are alot of fun.

Finally, if eating is your thing (it's ours) Artist Point is a fine dining experience not to be missed. Try the salmon. Dinner for three with wine cost us about $200.

We love WL & VWL. The kids love the slide at the pool, watching the geyser, watching the elec. water pageant from the beach, etc. We loved being a 5 min. boat ride from MK, but make sure you ask if it's a direct to MK if you're ever in a hurry in the evening to make a PS. It's great to be so close when you want to head back for a nap. If you have a non-park day, you can pool hop to the Poly (kids LOVE the volcano slide pool) or take a boat to the many great things to do at Ft. Wild. They've got a BBQ at night w/characters that we didn't get a chance to do but heard was great. You can rent bikes to go to Ft. Wild. too. You can take a boat to so many great restaurants at GF, Poly, Cont, etc. Don't forget to try the Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast & set the kids or DH up for a laugh by having them ask for ketchup for their eggs - LOL.

Have a blast. :bounce:

Walk into the lobby, find a cumfy-cozy sofa, plop your butt down and go "Ahhhhhh".

Get a cup of coffee, head upstairs in the lobby to one of the other fireplaces, find a cumfy-cozy chair, plop your butt down and say "Ahhhhhh".

Staying in the Villas, pour yourself a glass of wine, head down to the Iron Spike room, find a cumfy-cozy rocker, plop your butt down and say "Ahhhhhh".

Nice cool January nites, get a big mug of coco, head out to the hot tub, pick out a cumfy-cozy slab of concrete in the jacuzzi, plop your butt down and say .................."hot hot hot hot....ahhhhhh"

Then go find a restroom...... all that coffee, wine and coco have got to go.

... and, in keeping with the theme above, you may have to plop your butt down to deal with the coffee, wine, etc.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

As much as any other resort, VWL lends itself to unwinding, relaxing, and basking in the atmosphere.

If you are feeling antsy, walk to Fort Wilderness to the campfire program. The kiddos will love it, and if you don't want to fool with the walk back, take a boat.

Too funny! But I totally agree ::yes::

Also, at 9:35 pm, head down to the beach, find yourself a comfy cozy slab-o-beach and look at the electric water parade and say "Ahhhhhhhh".

You guys are too funny!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We have been to the WL once this past June for dinner at Whispering Canyon. We treated DH's family to dinner at WC and then the Wishes cruise which left from WL dock. They said it was the highlight of their trip. The resort is beautiful.

We didn't get to finish the hidden mickey hunt so that's also on the list of things to do.

What is the easiest way to FW? The hay ride sounds fun, and I believe they have a petting zoo? Do they still have the Chip & Dale campfire during the winter?

I'd like to take the kids to Chef Mickey's...I believe its at the Contemporary....can we catch the boat there?

Thanks again for all the help!

Yup, there's a petting zoo at the campground. Rent a surrey bike and follow the paved trail...fun thing to do!

Yes, you can hop on the boat to the Contemporary and Chef Mickey's.

And when you head down to the beach at night to watch the Electric Water Pageant, don't forget the popcorn (which you can pop in your microwave of course)...yum!

We'll be at VWL just a few weeks before you will be and I can't wait!!!!

There is a shuttle boat that does the triangle...WL-CR-FW... runs very late.

The campfire is offered in the winter...unless something has changed.

Not too sure about that. It may be the time of year we were there, but the last boat left CR at 9:30 and we had to take a cab back to VWL! :earseek:

the campfire and the move following it are offered all year long.

do you like to exercise - VWL has one of the best gyms on property - lots to do in there....

make sure you order you drink around the pool before the pool bar closes (it will be closed long before EWP starts) - okay I think this is back timing on WL part - but who knows.....

there are 2 paths to FW from WL - one through the woods next to the bike path - the other along the route that the buses take. both are very nice.....

over at FW there is the petting zoo.

I am in the minority but I happen to think the slide at WL is pretty special.....

do you like animals - this place has lots of animals.....

We love the slide at WL too! It's a very relaxing pool--especially at night, but the slide keeps the kids happy as does the geyser every hour!:D
