Reading all the posts about the different restaurants at WDW makes me want to try them all... NOW!!

Anyway, which restaurant were you really looking forward to trying and then found it to be a disappointment?

I was disappointed with Le Cellier. Granted, I had fish, which is not the specialty of the house. It was bland but the parsnips it came with were quite good. Also, you get ripped off on draft beer. I have glasses at home that are identical to the ones they use there, and I know that they only hold 10 ounces. That's not much considering how much they cost. DW ordered pasta, but she didn't like it either. Service was just average, about half the tables were empty (we went during illuminations) but it still took a long time for our server to make it back to our table. I doubt we'll go back but if we do I'll make sure we all get the steak.

Portobello Yacht Club - it was fine, but not wonderful; I had expected more.

Maya Grill - had enjoyed this several times a few years back, but following the menu change a couple years ago (from a central american theme to more ordinary steak/chicken/ribs menu), it just got dull.

Last time I went to Le Celier I was very disappointed. We went for lunch and I had the dagwood type sandwich. The bread was so salty that I couldnt eat it. The only thing that would keep me coming back would be the soup!

Yachtsman Steak House. We had a nice meal there and the server (Oscar) was terrific. However, a steak ordered medium should not arrive at the table looking like charcoal. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but still close. They just seem to have lost the touch for properly preparing steaks over the years.

Coral Reef! It was expensive for what we got, the server did nothing to enhance the experience and apart from the aquarium there is nothing to recommend it. Food is ok though.

Rose and Crown. Oh, the setting was beautiful, and the beer was good ;) , but the server was a very unpleasant sweaty girl with a bad attitude. And when I say sweaty, I mean that she was unclean. With dirty, stringy hair. And big sweat stains under her arms. And I don't believe that she brushed her teeth that month. I'm not kidding. We were there on NYE - when she finally got to our table (on the patio), I immediately gave her a $20, so she wouldn't have to worry about getting stiffed on a busy night (I estimated how much my husband and little boy and I would eat for dinner, and how long we would be there over and above the time it would take to eat a regular sit down dinner, and figured out that starting with $20 as a tip would be about $10 shy - that $10 would come at the end of the night. In case anyone is keeping track, that is assuming a 15% tip on a $200 check, which would be a VERY large check for a table with 2 adults and one child). I may as well have not bothered - we still waited OVER AN HOUR for our first drink (the place was not THAT busy - just normally full), and then about another hour for a cheese plate (which was vile - and I like cheese!) and a bowl of soup (OK, that was very tasty, lamb and barley). I had to get up and go find her for a second round almost 2 hours after we sat down.

I have to give kudos to the manager, though, who when she stopped by our table and found out what we were experienceing (she had sat us, so she knew exactly how long we were there, and said something about how this was not the first complaint about this young lady) bought us back a round.

This would not stop us from going back, but it did put a damper on the night. I mean, I tried. We were very nice, I tipped up front (and did let her know that we would be tipping more at the end of the night, which we stupidly did - heck, I had just seen the WDW NYE fireworks from a ringside seat at Epcot!!:sunny: ), but her grumpy, dirty service did put a big boo hoo on an otherwise perfect evening. Plus, I didn't care for the cheese plate. I know, next time I'll have the famous fish and chips . . .:teeth:

We have yet to be disappointed with a Disney dining experience. We are trying several new places this trip, I hope our luck holds!

Cap'n Jacks... without a doubt!

Even though we had a nice table right along the water in the octagonal room, the food was sickening (literally!).

I had the ahi tuna (rare) which made me sick to my stomach for the duration of our trip. That place ruined our vacation!

I've had worse meals at Disney, but Boma was the most disappointing. The food was just OK, the buffet overcrowded. The restaurant too noisy I'd heard such wonderful things - particularly about the desserts (which didn't even make average - I've had better desserts at the office Christmas potluck) - that I was quite excited.

Had I not had the hype, it would have been a decent meal.

In all the meals we have had in WDW, we have only had 2 big disappointments. Donalds Breakfastosaurus- food was ok, but service was bad and it was an extremely stressful meal because of it. And Tonys for dinner- spaghetti was crunchy, and overpriced, and we were attacked by fruit flies at our table and they wouldnt move us.

However most reviews I have heard of these places are positive so these could be just isolated incidents.

Boma - not horrible, just didn't care for the food - we have weird taste buds though because everyone else loves it.

Marrakesh.

I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for so long because it was something that we couldn't try at home and the menu descriptions sounded delicious.

Everyone in the family agreed it was the worst meal of the trip. Food was terrible, small portions (although we didn't finish what we had anyway because we were unimpressed with it), unpleasant server and the restaurant was so empty that it gave us that creepy feeling like we were the last one's left at closing time (this was in the middle of the day).

We walked out of there and my DH said, "Well that was $60 wasted, now where can we go to eat, I'm starving!" ;)

I wasn't really disappointed with Boma; it just wasn't as good as I expected, plus it was very noisy and hectic. After all the glowing reviews, I expected to love it, but that spark just wasn't there.

In 2000 our worst meal was Fulton's. The prices were outrageously high (almost $150 a piece for me and my Mother) and the service was horrible.

In 2004 it was Alfredo's. Although the waiters was beyond gorgeous to look at, they weren't much on manners and we had to practically do jumping jacks at the table to get attention. Then they acted like we got on their nerves when we asked for drink refills. I was extremely disappointed with the food just because we waited for almost an hour and a half and when we finally got it, it was cold.

Restaurant Akershus at Norway. There were a few interesting choices and I usually love variety, but there weren't that many things that I enjoyed - too much fish. Also something there made a few of us sick for 2 days.
This was about 2.5 years ago when it was a pure buffet-style dinner.

Just a side comment - I never tip before I receive service from the wait staff - that seems like putting the cart before the horse. I usually tip according to quality of service and don't have any way to guage that before the services are performed.

Cape May Cafe - After wonderful buffet experiences at Boma & 'Ohana, we were greatly dissapointed. The ceasar salad was never refilled. There were about 6 floating shrimp that were never refilled. A few floating potatoes that were never refilled. The meat was given out in thin strips & if you asked for a second peice, the carver acted as if it were her own arm she was giving away. Plus there was a 25 minute lag between peices of meat coming out. When we finally got the manager, his comment was "well the meat is there now." (by this time, we had given up on dinner and had already finished dessert) We were not alone, as the family in the table next to us had the same complaint with food. We were compensated with a discounted bill, but it should never had happened in the first place.

On the plus side, the same family next to us that was as upset as us, had eaten there earlier in the week and had a wonderful meal, hence them coming back again. We just got a BAD night.

Another plus was that the waitress was wonderful and even backed us up. We made sure to tip her on the full price of the meal, not the discounted price.

Tried this for the first time 3-04. I'm a fish fanatic, so I was really looking forward to the fish and chips. The fish was very over breaded and greasy. Also my DH had that cheese plate mentioned in an earlier post. That was not good. The service was ok, but I don't know if I would return anytime soon.

We are planning to try Fulton's for the first time in November. I saw three disappointments listed in this thread. That kind of scares me.

Boma-wasn't impressed with the food (too bland) although the facility is very nice.

Jiko - a horrid experience for my teenage daughter with our waiter. We were beyond shocked that a place that received such highly publicized reviews would fall so short on service during our meal.

I have three -

In 1996 it was Sci-Fi - food was greasy and seemed as if it had been sitting out for too long.

In 2000 at Chef Mickey's (breakfast)- service was poor and the food was mediocre at best.

In 2003 it was Liberty Tree Tavern - food tasted like a TV dinner and was overpriced IMO.

That said we're trying Chef Mickey's again this year but for dinner this time and I made a PS for LTT at MNSSHP but only as a back up in case I can't get Crystal Palace 90 days out.

We will never go to Akershus again since it went to a menu+buffet. The staff was GREAT, but we spent over $50 at lunch for myself and 12yrDS and had the same feeling as thevolcanogod's DH. I really liked being able to sample the dishes of Norway. A full plate of one entre was just too much of one thing and they seemed to have taken away some of the salad items that I really liked. And paying for the entre just to eat off the the buffet is waaaay to expensive! ;)

Chef Mickey's. Fun atmosphere, but the food was GROSS! Cold, unappetizing, bland, picked over . . . I could go on and on. We tend to do lots of sitdown meals, and, after 12 or so trips, we've eaten almost everywhere. Chef Mickey's is the only place we won't go back to. YUCK!

I've never been a fan of the food at Biergarten. The last time I ate there was in 1996, so unless it had improved since then, I'll pass.

I also agree that taking off the hot buffet at Akershus was a bad thing. I love it there, but I don't want a HUGE plate of the hot food I want to try. I hate wasting food.

The restaurant that most underwhelmed me for food and service was Big River Brewery on the Boardwalk. The food was mediocre and the service was bad, from the person who did the seating to the server. Lackluster.

Biggest disappointment in recent years: Flying Fish Cafe.
I had a wonderful meal there years ago, and I returned there again in 2002. They had taken one of their signature dishes off the menu (the red snapper....but I had heard they put it back!), and we all agreed that the quality of the fish we had didn't match the price.

Best meal I've had recently: I had a terrific experience in Jiko in May. I dined solo, so I ate at "The Cooking Place". The chefs, the server, the food.....all made a great experience for me.

Hmmm, interesting thread to read. I have seen a couple of our best experiences listed here as "worst".

Our all time worst had to be.....

Chef Mickey:mad: bad seat, bland food, so-so character interaction, rude staff.... never again!

Tony's Town Square: :crazy2: nasty food!

Not a worst but wouldn't do again....

Just got back on July 1, and two restaurants that so impressed me last year were duds this year. Teppanyaki was so wonderful last summer. The steak and lobster were cooked with style to perfection, delicate slices, flavorful and tender. This year we got a young lady in training, so the show was awkward, but the food....harrumph! Big rubbery hunks of lobster and chunks of steak so tough I didn't eat them. That restaurant is way too expensive to turn out meals like that. My other disappointment was Chefs du France. Last year I had the best salad and macaroni and cheese I had ever had. It turned out to be my favorite meal of the trip. I couldn't wait to get back there this year. How could a restaurant go so downhill in one year? Again, the same meal at the same restaurant. It went uneaten. I was so disappointed. However, we had some great meals and we will get a restaurant review together real soon.

Oh lord, I have two really nasty restaurants!

San Angel Inn - the atmosphere was beautiful but the food was not much better than Taco Bell and the service - well we won't even mention it!

Biergarten - wonderful service but horrible food and I also HATE sitting with strangers.

definitely Boma for breakfast. horrific waiter, food ok but not any better than any other wdw breakfast i've had and biggg disappointment for me was it what i could get anywhere. defintely "over hyped" which proably made me dislike it...the setting was nothing fantastic either imo

close second was Ohana's for the same reasons except the waiter wasn't as bad and at least the food was different if over priced but the wait was much longer, and our table was in the leprosy section;) so maybe not really able to fairly access the atmosphere which makes it #2

Fulton's, Alfredo's and Coral Reef.
OK, granted, I'm a gourmet chef. But I go in with a realistic expectation, it's an attainable expectation. I am not expecting perfection.
Decent food and service for the high price I am paying.
Not getting what you pay for is what ticks me off the most.
All 3 are tied for being the most disappointing.

Wow, lots of opinions here. Some of my favorites are listed!

My biggest disappointment seems to be one of people's favorites. I really didn't care for the food at the 50's Primetime Cafe and the playing around doesn't appeal to me either.

Anywhere else has been at least as good as I expected.

My two biggest disappointments...

The Coral Reef.... too expensive and portions too small. I thought the whole fish tank thing would make it amazing, but we were a few teirs up and really did get to see any fish.

Sci Fi Dine Inn.... it looked so cool in the guidebook to sit in the cars to eat!!!! But I discoverd that I dont like eating in a cramped space staring at the back of the heads of the strangers we were seated with. Plus the food gave me the WORST stomach cramps. Thought I was going to pass out.

As always... I love CP and CM.... they never disappoint me!!

Whispering Canyon Cafe

We went there for dinner and I really didn't care for the food, particularly the meat--it was swimming in grease (we got the all you can eat skillet). The service was great and we had alot of fun, though. I'd go back and try the breakfast if we stay at WL again. I will give a big thumbs up to the Triple Chocolate Moose Stampede :teeth:

One spot you seldom hear anything from is the Concourse Steakhouse. We ate there NYE a couple of years ago, and, while not horrible, it's as close to a Disney disappointment as we've ever had. Part of it was the service ... maybe it was folks who didn't want to be working, but it sure was lackluster.

Still - one bad experience does not a lifetime opinion make, and I might be willing to give it another shot one day.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. A lot of things combine to make an experience good or bad. Chances are, every restaurant in the WDW area will eventually pop up on both the "bad" and "good" experience threads. Plus what one person loves, another hates. I would go with a place that sounds good to you and just take your chances. Unless of course, every post you hear about a place is negative.

Here's another vote for Whispering Canyon. I know this is a popular one, but we won't go back. We tried it while staying at WL because we heard about how much FUN it is there. We went for a late lunch, and there were none of the antics going on that were described. We were very disappointed in the food. It was just about the driest we have ever eaten, and we are by no means picky. Nine Dragons is another one. I didn't hate it, but we won't go back. The atmosphere was great, but the food was just like our take out Chinese place at home.

Well, after recent meals at WDW, I sadly report that Whispering Canyon has REALLY gone down. They have added more tables in the back away from the "show" and this was OK for DH & I. I was looking forward to the salad. It was like something out of the yard clippings in the lawnmower, but with one grape tomato, one cucumber slice and a few small crutons. The portion was too small. (The dressing is still good.) My potatoes were COLD. I ordered wine but never received the water I asked for. DH had the so-so meatloaf and I the chicken. The white meat was very dry. The cornbread was great, but overall, I would NOT return for the food! I overheard our server tell someone WC has some of the best food on property. How sad!

After being so excited about eating at coreal reef, it really disapointed me. We had a seat right next to the take which was wonderful and our server was very pleasent. However the food was awful (it literally left a bad taste in my mouth all day long). I don't think i'll be going back.

Our most disappointing meal so far has been Donald's Breakfastasauras. We went for my ds5's birthday in May, at his request to eat with Donald Duck. We had the last seating of the day at 10:30. The food was awful. Very little choice, not cooked well...just plain yucky. The service was rushed and unorganized. I had to keep asking for coffee and drink refills. Our server knew it was my ds's birthday and did NOTHING special for him, yet made a big huge deal out of another little boys birthday a few tables away from us. That kind of ticked me off. The characters took FOREVER to come out, but when they finally made it to our table, they stayed just for a photo and that was it. It really was nothing special. And the price wasn't cheap. All in all, not a great experience....never again!!

We were unhappy with Brown Derby. Maybe it was a 'off-night' for them. We had a 45 minute wait with PS's, the waiter couldnt have been nastier, the food was "heh"!, prices were outrageous for what you get.

Also, Chef Mickeys for breakfest. I was suprised by the 'uncleanliness' of it all. All you need is a waiter to serve your coffee, juice the rest is buffet style. It took a loooooong time to get silverware & coffee. Then when we went to the buffet half the trays were empty. I think we were there 2 hours in total, had one beverage...some eggs & bacon. Thats it. NEVER AGAIN

However, one thing I really noticed @ Dis...besides the atmosphere & the Food...your server can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE. If you get a great server, your meal is delightful. If you get a horrible server, your meal is a bust.

Chef Mickey's for dinner. Food and service were not so great. With the exception of Chip who loved DS, the character interaction was pretty bad. I actually haven't had a tremendously horrible restaurant experience at dinner, though I do think Tony's has a limited menu and wasn't anything spectacular (though the spumoni was excellent). Our last trip to Sci-Fi wasn't too great but wasn't bad, just not a menu we liked (dinner). I haven't actually ate at San Angel Inn (I think that's the name) in Mexico but some of my family have and hated it.

To add onto others posts:
-I have ate at Concourse Steakhouse and liked it. The breakfast is very good.
-I have loved Chef Mickey's every time I have gone (breakfast or dinner) and found the character interaction to be wonderful

I think experiences can vary by the day. LOL I personally can't think of any Disney restaurant I would never give a second chance to.

Chef Mickeys for dinner

Horrible uneatable cold bland food. Desserts looked like they had been played in. Non existant service and we had the misfortune of sitting in the upstairs area behind the buffet. I don't think the characters know that there are tables up there.

but we went to the Backyard BBQ on 7/8 - we were quite disappointed. Okay, we're from NC so why were we thinking we'd like the BBQ. It wasn't true BBQ by our standards...just chicken with BBQ sauce. They had grilled hot dogs, awful baked beans, yucky mac n' cheese. The grilled corn was good and you can't mess up watermelon. I'm glad we did it - in fact we did it several years ago and I don't remember it being this bad. Maybe my tastes have changed.

We were by far the most disappointed in Alfredo's in Epcot, wewere forced to go there after a lost reservation and starvation had set in.
It was as horrible as everyone says. WAY TO EXPENSIVE too! We spent as much there as we at Flying Fish.
All disney food, in my opinion taste's the same just prepared differently. So we have never had bad food until ALFREDO's.

Ours would have to be Tony's. We went year's ago there and my french toast was pure greece. I would like to go back, but husband say's, 'you didn't like your food before, what makes you think you'll like it now? I don't want you disappointed.' Maybe when we move to Fla. and we've tried every restaurant there, he'll want to try it again.

We love Cape May, but not one of the waitresses there. We've had her twice. My daughter was a waitress at a resort there for a little while and she said that you can request a different waitress without any trouble. If we go back, we would ask for a different area to sit first and, hopefully, wouldn't get her.

The food at Capt Jack's in DTD is so appalling that I think back to our meal in Feburary and laugh. After a 75 minute wait (no PS's expected), our waitress tells us, "If I were you, stick to appetizers tonight...." She was right! I ordered a seafood pasta submerged in a tepid orange gunk I'm sure the cook dredged up from the bottom of the lake.

This is by far the worst restaurant at WDW, and it's been at DTD forever. I'm surprised no one's set that place on fire or something.

Our worst meal would have to be Chefs de France. My husband and I both had the Crêpe au poulet et fromage. We were both a little put off that we got the same chicken strips in our crepes as our kids got for their meals. Do chicken strips belong in a crepe? It probably would have been ok if they were not so dry! Maybe we are spoiled because we have a great French restaurant we love to go to in St. Louis. On the up side our waiter was very nice and talked to us about the area he came from in France. I would have loved to give this restaurant a glowing review but I felt like the food was just ok. While a lot of things make a good or bad dining experience food has to be at the top of the list!

Bistro de Paris

We ate there June 03, and expected much more. I had lobster and my husband had steak. We have had MUCH, MUCH better before. The price just wasn't worth it, and the service was only okay.

Sad to hear others disliked Yachtman Steakhouse. That was one of our favorite meals. Great service, great food.

Our latest trip, we did not care for ESPN at the Boardwalk. Everyone talked about the wings. I am originally from Buffalo, so I like to think I know good wings. They were the worst I have ever had. Not at all like true Buffalo wings. Also, Spoodles at Boardwalk was ok. I guess it's more our fault, we thought it was a more general menu and it's more authentic type Italian.

Le Celier. The food quality? Don't know.

We didn't have a PS thus the hostess wouldn't seat us.

The strange thing about it was that the hostess, my wife and myself were the only ones in the place.

To this day I'm still scratching my head on that one.

I believe Spoodles is Mediterranean/Spanish

I have had good and bad experiences with Alfredo's. I might give it one more go just to be sure!

We've been to Tony's a few times. The food was fine in all cases but the seating is what makes the difference. We've been seated in the main dining area (nice), outside on the deck watching the parade (great), and in the corner staring at a blank wall in dim light (very bad). Frankly if we have a really good time we won't return the next year since it'll never meet expectations. Silly but I've got simple expectations. :)

The Fulton Crab House (?) at DTD. Slow service, much $$,--i've had much better seafood from where i'm from.

Just returned and LeCellier was awesome. Went to the Brown Derby and it was just ok. In Jan. it was very, very good. Sci-Fi for dinner was just awful. We have done Sci-Fi several times and have enjoyed it. I ordered the BBQ Chicken sandwich and it tasted gross. I ate maybe 20% of it and then just left it. I told the waiter and his reply was "sorry". You could tell I didn't like it and I feel should have been offered something else. I actually was sick to my stomach for the rest of the evening. Bad, bad food! We have been to the Mexican restaurant and do not really like that either. I agree that the Luau was just ok. The food bad, except for the salad, bread and pineapple. Our waitress was never around for drink refills and I was only drinking coke! We went to the Concourse steakhouse this trip again and it was very good. We also went to RFC in AK twice. I ordered the same thing both times. The first day it was awesome. The next time just ok. I was told by another guest that it is prepackaged food and just put in the oven to warmed. How could the food have tasted so different each day if this is true?

Coral Reef was a major disappointment for me. A close second is Alfredo's.

In all of my trips, I'd have to say the Concourse Steakhouse back in 1998. That was supposed to be our "nicest" meal, as we scheduled it to happen on our 1 year anniversary.

The service was HORRIBLE. I was sick before we left for WDW, and was trying to keep myself on a bland diet. I remember leaving every 10 minutes or so to use the facilities (TMI, sorry!), but our server probably didn't even notice b/c he came to our table three times in 2 hours - once to take our order, once to deliver our order & then again to drop off the check.

Our dinner was pretty pricey (from what I can remember) and definitely not anything that makes us want to go back there again.

Tony's at MK. Service was OK and nice place, but the food I had was not good at all.

Concourse Steakhouse - lousy service, just so, so food. Very disappointing, for the money I would much rather eat a CRT.

Brown Derby...the food was mediocre and way over priced.

I'll second this statement!

Our familiy's LEAST favorite places to dine in WDW:
1. Sci-Fi ... the food was WAY over priced for the quality.
2. Whispering Canyon Cafe ... we had the breakfast here and we also felt as if the quality of food was not worth what we had to pay.
3. 50's Prime Time ... this is actually just one of my least favorite places. I like the atmosphere, and my family seems to think the food is ok, but I didn't find much that I thought was good and I don't think I would go again over some of the other places at MGM.

Just 1 food item from WDW that was not fully enjoyed~

A turkey leg at MGM. It was so tough, almost impossible to get the meat off for starving DD(3 then) to eat:mad: :(

We, too, had a late lunch at Whispering Canyon and disliked it. The CM was merely going through the motions--I think he was wore out by the time we got there. The food was dried out and cold as though they scrapped all the pans before washing them, and that's what we got.

We will be staying at WL in October, and I doubt we'll give it another try.

Generally, we have enjoyed all of our meals at Disney. The exception would be Tony's Town square in MK. The service was fine and the atmosphere was ok, but the food was yuck. :crazy2:

We were all very disappointed with that meal and probably won't go back. I'm used to the prices of Disney meals but this one really wasn't worth it.

Sci-Fi Diner - I can't say it was disappointment, exactly, since I was warned on this board prior to eating there, but boy oh boy, they weren't kidding! http://www.wdwinfo.com/sites/family/blech.gif

We had four different lunch selections and none were any good. I left most of my cheeseburger. It was one of the worst ever. I did enjoy the experience enough to want to go back and order dessert only. We had a car to ourselves, so that was fun and so were the movies. :)
