View Full Version : Stay Off The Scale Challenge - Week 1!

I'm sorry this new thread is a little late but I hope all our challengers have an opportunity to post during the week. Please check in by Sunday and let us know if you were successful in staying off the scale so you can move up the ranks.

It was a real challenge not to step on the scale this morning especially because I'm "feeling" thin today. I was dying to know if I've dropped even a half a pound. But I thought of all of you and stayed strong!

So, are you keeping your scale out of sight or have you left it right where it always sits so you can exercise real will power? So far, my scale is in its usual place but I may have to move it if the temptation gets to great! I hope you all have a successful and scale free Tuesday! We can do this together! :bounce: :bounce:

SOTESBIE CHALLENGER – DAY 2

DoeWDW
07-06-2004, 10:14 AM
My scale is in the usual spot - it functions as a doorstop for the bathroom door. :p Ever since I saw a very unwelcome number on it last week, I have decided that it is EVIL and does not deserve my presence! ::yes:: (What, me bitter??? :teeth: )

At this point I am NOT feeling thin and my "heavy" pants are feeling snug so I have no problem whatsoever staying off it.

I agree with you, Lisa! As soon as I start to "feel" thinner, I'll have much more of a problem staying away. :p

Be strong, everyone! We are MUCH MORE than a number on the scale!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

By the way, does our challenge have an end date??

I have left the scale just where it is. I haven't even been tempted to step on it this morning, which is a small miracle in itself. I really want to see myself being challenged, and this is a challenge.

DoeWDW- I think it ends August 4th. I can't wait for that day. Maybe I'll be 10 pounds lighter:teeth:

Hello all,
I stayed off the scale this morning!! I put on a smaller size pair of scrub pants when I got to work. That way I can tell if they get a little looser over the next month, that I am succeeding. It will definitely be worth it to have a larger than usual loss when I step on the scale again in August!

Good luck to my fellow privates...I salute you!

Managed to fight the urge to go on the scales this morning. Not being able to go on the scales is like being on a diet ~ Knowing that I can't go on them makes them seem more attractive.

Feeling really positive today ~ Have managed to eat healthily and after work I'm going to the gym.

Good luck to all the other privates ~ Onward and downward.

I'm so happy to hear that you are all doing so well as we go into Day 2. It's kind of weird not knowing to the pound what I weigh but kind of freeing at the same time.

Doe - I agree with you that the scale is evil sometimes. It's a good little scale when it tells me what I want to hear but an evil ol' thing when it's up or stays the same. Our challenge ends in 30 days which is August 3. So like Sheree mentioned, you can weigh until your heart's content on August 4. I know I will be. I hope to see a nice little loss.

Sheree - I was thinking the same thing this morning. This is a real challenge. My goal is to find new ways to push myself and keep this weight loss journey interesting because I'm only about half way to goal and with so far to go, I need to find ways to keep this process challenging. This is definitely mixing things up and making me come out of my comfort zone.

AuroraluvsPhillip - what a great idea to wear your smaller scrubs to work. That way you can tell in your clothes how successful you are this month. I've got a botton down top that is kinda tight and my jean jacket doesn't quite botton all the way and I'd like to see both of those items fitting better by month's end.

Minniespal - I totally understand how you feel. It's like when your mother tells you not to touch the stove because it's hot. You feel a compulsion to do it anyway. It's good to hear you are feeling positive. So am I with all this wonderful support. Have a great work out!

Well,I barely stayed off it. I woke up, and in my bleary eyed state, tapped it on. It was reflexive. Then I remembered, and didn't get on it. It is staying in place though.

The scale I usually weigh on is in the gym that I go to each day at lunch. I tried to move it so it wouldn't be a temptation, but one of the workers made me leave it there! ;) So, I have been successful for today and won't face that stupid scale again until tomorrow!

Way to go everyone!

I went with my hubby yesterday when he weighed himself! I didn't step on! I also re-scheduled my doc's appointment til the 14th, so I'll close my eyes when she weighs me then! Keep up the good work everyone!

You guys are keeping me in such good spirits through all of this! It's so nice not to be doing this challenge alone.

Hollyann - good for you in being strong and not weighing yourself even though hubby did! I would probably do the same thing as you, just close my eyes when I got weighed. As a matter of fact, at my last visit, the nurse didn't even tell me at first what my weight was, I had to ask! When she realized I lost over 50 pounds, she went and got the doctor and they were both so excited for me.

GoofItUp - you made a valiant effort to move that scale out of your way! I guess since it's in a public place it really has to stay put. You're doing great, keep it up!!!!

Beth - Old habits can be hard to break. The first thing I thought about this morning was how fast I could jump on the scale and see what it said. I had to catch myself. Good job in catching yourself. We'll beat this scale addiction together! :)

So far I've managed to stay off the scale. Although this morning it was really difficult :( I just bought a new pair of pants and they feel tight on me! I know that different makes of clothes fit differently, but not being able to get on the scale and check my weight, really made me uneasy!! ::yes:: but, I am determined that I am going to stay away from the scale!

I'm feeling pretty good today. I had my wisdom teeth removed on Friday and I haven't seen the scale since then and I'd love to know what's going on. Tomorrow will be back to my exercising so I'm really trying to give it my all for this challenge. My ultimate goal is to do the half marathon then the full marathon at WDW. Right now, it's just to heal and feel healthy::yes::

Have a great week everyone!

Hey all!

I was about to put it in the closet and then decided it wouldn't be so much of a challenge if it was out of sight. So under the bathroom garbage can it will stay for the duration.

Given that it didn't cooperate for me to meet the independence day challenge - just one stubborn pound - not giving it the time of day for a whole month is just what it deserves.

It's Day 4 challengers and it sounds like you all are doing so well!! Boy was I tempted this morning to get on the scale but I resisted because I knew I had all of you cheering me on!

Instead of weighing I have been trying on this beautiful button down shirt I want to wear to a convention at the end of the month. It fits but it's a little too tight for me. I have noticed that it has loosened up quite a bit but it's not quite there yet. It's getting there though. This weekend I'm going to measure and compare the results with my measurements from 10 days ago.

wiskband - Renee, it's so nice to have you join us!!!! I'll add you to the list. The challenge started on Monday (July 5) and will be over August 3 which is a Tuesday so you are free to weigh on Wednesday the 4th of August. You can check in daily or just weekly if you like but please be sure to check in at least every Monday and let us know if you were successful in staying off the scale for the week so you can move up in the ranks.

Okay everybody, let's stay off the evil scale - be strong, we can do this!!! ::yes::

I thought it would be cool if we had a question of the day to help keep things interesting. If I don't get to it and one of you ladies would like to pose a question for the day, feel free! It can be about anything weight loss related or that you feel will encourage us to stay focused.

Here's today's question:

What type of exercise do you do and how often do you work out?

I use the Firm work out series and I execise 6 days per week doing cardio and weight routines.

Anyone else want to share?

WDWorBUST - we would love to have you join us! Just make your ending date August 7th instead of the 4th so you wouldn't weigh in again until August 8. How's that? Check in with us daily or no later than Mondays so you can move up the ranks!

Now we have 19 brave WISHers for our challenge!!! Woohoo!!!!!

Oh this thread's timing is too ironic not to remark on. My friend and I, (she is NOT a DIS member) just had this converstion Tuesday. We said we would not weight ourselves...we are doing the FIRM tapes and seem to be gaining weight.

I said, let's hide them in our basements under a table or something, by all the spiders! LOL!

So, if you don't mind...count me in! The timing is impecable!

Hello all. Day 4 already huh!! I resisted that darn scale today. I feel so bloated, that I was like surely I've put on some pound, hmmm. Then I said, nope. 3 more weeks.

I am doing the firm workouts and did workout today. I love working with weights and I am beginning to feel bad about taking an off day. I'm not sure why. I guess I've finally found somethng that I really enjoy doing.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi all!

I'm feeling weak but not caving in. The scale was calling to me when I came in this evening but I am resisting. Boy, this is not easy but if my other WISH buddies can stand it, then so can I! I just don't know when I went from a casual, once a week weigher, to this obsessive compulsive, jump on the scale 5 times a day maniac!!! Anyway, it's nice to know everyone is persevering and staying strong!

leahannpen - welcome!! You can join WDWorBUST and make today your official start day and August 7th your ending date, which means you can weigh again on August 8th. We are very happy to have you join us! I'll add your name to the list!

We now have 20 brave privates enrolled in our challenge! Woohoo!!!! I never thought I'd have this many people willing to join me and it's so nice to have you all commiting to this challeng with me. Big big group hug! :grouphug:

Hiya Everyone ~

Have still managed to resist the urge to leap on the scales. Have exercised three times this week, so far and have been feeling quite positive.

Today I am feeling a little down and had to really force myself to have the banana sandwich for lunch instead of the McDonalds that I really wanted.

I know that I am craving the McD because I am fed up and will be pleased with myself when I feel happier and didn't give into temptation.

Have a good weekend all.

Welcome to Day 5 everyone!

I'm feeling bright, sunny and very positive that I'll be able to stay off the scale through the weekend, including Sunday my official weigh in day.

Minniespal - you are doing so well in resisting the McD's urge! Your hard work is gonna pay off big time!

Here's the question of the day:
What is your goal weight/goal size?

Mine keeps fluxuating. Right now at 214.5 pounds I can wear a solid 16 and some 14's. My original goal weight was 140 but I would like to wear a size 8 and wonder with my Firm work outs if I can reach that point when I'm 150. It's confusing to me sometimes so I am hoping to get some of your opinions on what your ultimate goals are. I'm 5'1" and according to the weight charges I should weigh no more than about 132 pounds. I think I would look too skinny. I definitely want to keep my shapely hips, they make me look sexy and feminine even at this weight.

Everyone stay strong and stay off the evil scale! :goodvibes

I've been doing the FIRM tapes about 2 months now, though not every day all within that time frame. For instance, this whole week, I blew it off. And I blew it off when I went to WDW for 5 days. Otherwise, I've done it 3 times or more per week. I have noticed a difference.

My friend just called me, and she wants to join WW. So, we may have to hit the scale, if we join. I don't know if we are starting right away, or waiting a week for the hubbies to finish soft ball for the summer.

I'll keep ya posted, and in the mean time, NO SCALE FOR ME!

My goal weight is somewhere between 100 - 110lbs, I guess that when I get to the point somewhere inbetween the 2 that I feel right I will stop. I also am 5'1'', and I have a small frame. I am now in a UK size 10, which I think is the equivalent of a US size 6, and I weigh approx. 140lbs, so I guess that when I get down to my goal weight I will take a size 2-4

I'm 152 right now - Doc wants me down between 135 -127. I'll be happy with that. I'm pre-diabetic, so I have to watch what I eat and the weight loss has been a nice added bonus!

Take care everyone - stay strong!

:) Hi everyone! It looks like we are staying strong! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Question #1 excercise: I walk on the treadmill & use the excercise bike, I also have a excercise ball that I use for leg lifts & crunches. I will gradually add on other excercises when I feel stronger.

#2 Goal: I am taking it in 20 pound increaments, if that makes since. Sixty pounds just sounds so farrrr awwway....

Thanks for sharing July!

I've got a similar formula for my weight loss since I have so much to lose. I take it in 10% increments and should hit my third 10% increment once this challenge is over. I've got 7 pounds to go! It would be nice to step on that evil scale when this challenge is over and hit that minigoal and be ready to work my way to reaching my 4th 10% goal. I wish both of us well!!!!

Thanks leahannpen, Catherine and HollyAnn for sharing.

Don't forget guys, if one of you has a question you want to pose to the group, feel free! Or maybe I'm the only noisy one! :)

You are all doing an awesome job!!!

Hello everyone. I stayed off yet another day. It is honestly hurting me not knowing to the pound what I weight. I guess this challenge is better for me than I thought. I didn't realize just how much I was dependent on that scale. So, now I really realize that the scale is just pure evil. I shouldn't let anything that small dictate to me my worth.

My goal weight is somewhere between 120 and 130. Because of my size the Dr. wants me at like 105-110, but I'm not to sure about that. I don't want to be super thin or anything like that. I just really wanted to wear a size 10 again, and I've done that at 148. Now, I'll just get down in the weight and whatever happens after that. IF my clothes are smaller, then great. I never dreamed of being in size 5 or any thing like that.

Good job everyone. Hang in there. I wonder how easy the weekend will be?

I have managed to stay off the scales for another day. It was hard yesterday and because I was feeling so down with myself I really wanted to just pig out and forget about the diet but ...

I didn't. I have been exercising after work for the last four days and last night I just couldn't be bothered. I realise now that all I needed was some me time and some sleep....both of which I got last night.

Today is a much better day, I am feeling more positive and I went for a swim this morning and then came home and had a really healthy breakfast.

I am so glad that I listened to myself yesterday and avoided the temptation of a Big Mac.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Good morning everyone. Another day, another day off the scale. I haven't had time really to think about the scale this morning, so that's a good thing. I just wanted to check in and say hello.

Question: Do you let how other's view you affect the way you see yourself?

ZerasPride

Checking in for day 6. It was rough today not to get on that scale. I agree with Sheree that it is hard not to know to the pound what I weigh but this challenge is a good way to get control of the evil scale and show it just who is the boss!

Sheree, what a great question! I'm sitting here looking at a black and white photo take of me about 8 months ago. I can't believe how absolutely huge I look. When I was that size I didn't feel that large at all. I knew I was fat and was big but didn't feel or realize I was that big.

Now however people tell me all the time how "thin" and "skinny" I look. I don't see it. Most days I feel huge. I feel almost as big as the way I looked in the pics I have on my computer.

I do have days where I feel thin and an experience that happened this evening is in line with what I have been experiencing. My sister and I went to the movies with the kiddos and we got separated. I saw her walking away from me from a distance. When she caught up with me she laughed and said she saw me from a distance and didn't realize it was me. That I looked that small! What a great compliment. I'm trying to accept this new body image, what I see in the mirror and what people are saying I look like. Great question Sheree!

Have a good night everyone and stay strong!!!

I missed this week due to returning from vacation but I would like to join for next week. I am in serious need of scale addiction help! My goal is to only go by a size 5 pant that I desperately want to fit into by Labor Day. So instead of weighing, I will try them on weekly. I also am back to Phase1 of South Beach for at least a week as I gained 2 lbs back on vacation. Don't know if I can actually avoid my scale, I may need to move it out of my bathroom for a while. sm4987 - congratulations! Nothing like progress, huh? I had a good day today as well. The scale is becoming a measuring tool not an obsession.

While I'm looking forward to measuring my weight loss at the end of the month, I hardly ever think of it. Nice to have shifted the power.....I have power over the scale, it does not have power over me. I found that out about food around a month ago.

We scale ladies are soooo cool!
