The Us dollar is dropping, so today is a good day to buy some

The trading rate is 1.3245 @ 11:00 am

Caa is selling travelers cheques at 1.3456.

Banks might be better. Unsure what will happen on July 5, when traders get back from holiday, and the world stablizes after a US holiday, it might be lower......and then again.........

The Americans are not off today for the 4th of July they have Monday so they are trading today. I could be wrong but my friend lives in Il and she is working today.

We have been watching as we are going in Sept and regardless the rate right now is amazing. Who knows what it will do next. I wish my crystal ball was working......lol

Monday is their holiday. We bought the rest of ours on Tuesday, rates were good but not this good. Hoping it stays for our trip though since we pre-paid the Visa so most meals etc. will go on there.

I did orginally mean on Tues. that the US traders are back....I was thinking that July 4th was Monday not Sunday. But that might play in our favor....US currency trading starting Sunday night in Asia, so it's quite possible that it will go lower since US traders won't be able to "prop" it up on Monday and we can buy it on Monday at our banks.

I'll let you know on Monday which way it's heading.

We've been buying US cash and I've also been calling Disney and applying credits to our room with my credit card. We now have a $600 US credit just waiting to be spent when we arrive. ;)

I was a little worried about having a credit on our room so asked the CM yesterday if it would stay there or be refunded before we arrrive (read posts where people said their credit was refunded to their credit card before arriving). She went to talk to her supervisor and was told that you can overpay on room-only reservations but not on packages...which is consistant with what happened in October...I tried to overpay on my FTP and was told I couldn't. I'll still have a cc bill waiting for me when I get back but at least I know the exchange rate I'll be paying for it is pretty good...who knows what can happen in the 2 weeks we're there. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone is considering overpaying for their room.

and I said I'd let you know...

The trading range has moved up ever so slightly to 1.3258

CAA travelers is down a bit at 1.3436

The gerenal feeling from the "experts" is that U.S should go down more, to the 1.30/1.31 range within the next 60 days.
In Sept. the Bank of Canada is suppose to raise interest rates which means it should get even better. But the US FED will probably rate rates again in Aug. too.

So I think that it's going to get better for those going in the fall......but then again.....who knows!

I am sorry I misread your original post. I am so messed up with our Thurs holiday I still don;'tknow what day it is:(

I read on either the Sun or Star yesterday that our dollar should get better over the next few months but like you said who knows.

RBC is at 1.339 @ 2:00pm today (transfer rate 1000+;
1.345 <1000 cheque rate).

TD Canadatrust is at 1.3354 (borderless plan; 1.342 regular non-cash transactions).

Looks like we get an extra day's grace with the U.S. Holiday!

With US interest rates on the rise and Canadian rates stable, we've had a slight period of adjustment just now, and I expect we will settle on a new equilibrium for a time. I think you'll make better money in your savings account than in trying to speculate in the US$/C$ exchange rate over the next few months. I can certainly understand the relief of the C$ beating 75¢ mark again tho.

I can only hope that this improvement in the exchange rates will bring a few more Canadian tourist dollars back to my home State of Maine, which has historically seen plenty. The weak C$ really hurt my hometown economy for a spell, and we had to suffer thru a few summers with lots of New Yorkers and other such unsavoury folks instead of nice polite Canadians.:p
