Just received a postcard from Disney Visa for Disney Double Dream Reward Dollars for 12 months. I have to spend 250.00 or more a month on everday purchases, groceries, gas, dining, dry cleaning, utilities, cell phone, home improvements, and entertainment, movies, video rentals. This is good from July 1 2004 to June 30, 2005.

I got this letter too, but I have to spend $450 a month before the double rewards start. I don't like the way it's only good on certain things. I will be charging hotel rooms, dues and fees associated with my business, etc. and they won't count:(
Oh, well, my dh commutes 180 miles a day so we spend that much in gas each month anyway.

Wish I would get one of those in the mail. I use my Disney Card as a Debit card - with each purchase I deduct it from my checking account so I can pay it off each month. Use it for gas, groceries, etc.

I received double rewards from March to June when spending over $850....I wonder how they determine these things?????

Happy for those who have gotten the postcard. But I was just deciding to put this card in my safe, because there is no real incentive for me to use it. I got the pc for purchases over $500 would get double points March-June. I have yet to see them. The intrest and penatlies are very high. I am switching to my debit card that I can earn free Gift CC or a 5 Day Hopper or even airfare $$'s. A little more flexibility, and no chances for high intrest or penalties. Disney has to do a lot more for me to keep me intrested in looking for ways to use this card (IMHO).

We received the offer for over $650. I wonder how they determine who gets these offers and what offers they receive. Our offer also specifies that it is on groceries, gas, utilities, etc.

My DH had one of these for March to June, 2004. The one thing I noticed is that our grocery store (Giant) comes up as other on our credit card bill so no double rewards for that. When I realized that I told him he could go back to using this card for business expenses and not home expenses since BankOne makes the deision on what is groceries.

We got one too. Unfortunately I had already charged our AP's (2 adults, 3 children) last month. It never fails.

Got mine today. Good for selected purchases (dining, gas, utilities, entertainment, groceries, etc.) over $450/month. On the last promo, I did not have a threshold to meet.

I didn't realize how different these things were. My husband and I each have our own account. His letter was double for anything over $100 and mine was $550.
We usually use mine for all of our monthly purchases but now we will switch to using his card.

Sounds like even if they had sent me a card, it wouldn't have made any difference. They code all my purchases as other, regardless of what they are. Kroger and Food Lion, just regular old grocery stores come up as other, as does Wal-Mart where I buy a lot of groceries.

My letter said to use it for dining, utilities, gas, etc. and spend of $100 a month and get double points.
The last promotion I had to spend over $550 for double points.
I really makes you wonder who comes up with who has to spend what to get these.

I didn't receive a postcard in the mail, but this thread prompted me to log into my account and check out the current offers on my card. Turns out I have the same offer - but I have to spend $800.
Thanks!

I HATE DISNEY VISA!!
That being said. I didn't received the other offer from April till June, and I didn't received this offer either. So I wrote Bank one a very nasty letter letting them know how I feel about the selected offers to curtain people. It's just not right. I let the first offer slide hoping that I would get the next offer. I wonder if they will respond to my email. I hope so.
Thanks for letting my vent

I'd have to spend over $650 per month to qualify. I suspect they're looking at spending patterns, averages, etc. to come up with the amount by cardholder. I charged the kid's tuition twice over the past year so it really drives up the level.

Thanks for the heads up! I just checked and I only have to spend $150 to get the double rewards! I also had the double offer that just expired yesterday. I spent all the rewards I had while at WDW last month and earned some more but I agree the interest rate and terms are lousy. That's why I'm paying it off rather than carrying a balance!

One thing I noticed is that, while I have used my Disney Visa for bigger purchases, I never used it for day to day stuff. I just use my check card for that. So, I am wondering if this new offer is a way to get people to use the Disney Visa for everyday purchases like groceries and utilities??
After I got the offer, I immediately changed our cell phone bill to be automatically charged to the DV. I also changed our phone bill to be auto charged to the DV. I also have a Speedpass for gas at Mobil stations and I changed the Credit card that is linked to that to be the DV. My mother lives with us and usually does the grocery shopping for the house but she currently uses our check card, now I am going to give her my DHs DV. So basically, I am going to switch to buying all these everyday items with our DV. Good for them, good for us. I also usually check the DV website everyday and apply a payment online at least once per week to avoid carrying a balance.

I never received a post card but this time I am eligible for the promotion if I spend $150 month. Last time when I called I was told that I would receive double points from April-June and never mentioned a spending limit so we will wait and see. I hope so since I just paid off my cruise and bought my airline tickets.

I logged onto my account and to my DH's account. We both have the offer but there is no amount listed as to what we have to spend before we get the 2%. Does that mean that when I make those specific purchases it will ALL count for the 2%? These get more and more confusing.

where the offer is listed on the site? I went to the "Other Exciting Offers" and the only thing I had was that if Family Members signed up, they would get $50 Disney Dollars.
I NEVER, NEVER get any offers! Ugh!

I receive a letter with this offer. We have to spend $800 and I wasn't incredible surprised but that.
I'm sure they use things like this to get people to use their card more. There is probably an equation based on your regular spending that determine what threshold you have to meet before receiving the double rewards.
I wouldn't get upset if you did not get the reward this time around. A few months ago there was some kind of reward for using your card for regular purchase (grocerys, gas, etc). My parents received this offer but we did not and I figured that was because we already use our card for everything that we used to use our check card for.
Moral of the story, don't get upset if you didn't get this offer... it may be in the mail today or you might be in the running for an even better offer that they will have in a month or two.

The only thing I charged off of this year on my card was our April trip for $1336. I use my ChaseVisa because we get cash back. I would, however, use my Dis Visa if I could get double the rewards for my April trip.
Oh - I am just having a pity party, I did not get the last offer either.

They say for things like Video rentals, groceries, etc. Yet they code my Blockbuster sales as (other) my groceries as (other) paying a utility bill online as (other) so I guess it wouldn't make a bit of difference if I had gotten the offer or not. Even if I put $3000 a month on the card, it is never going to be coded as anything but (other.)

07-01-2004, 01:16 PM
I had the $850 threshhold for all purchases March through June. Now I have the $150 threshhold on groceries, household expenses, entertainment.
I'd say it's definitely based upon spending habits. I heated that card up in the last few months on big ticket items, but NEVER use it for the items listed above (everyday stuff).
If you don't get the postcard, go online or call!!! I never got the postcard for the last one, and wouldn't have known at all if it weren't for you great DIS people.

I got $150 a month and DH did not get the offer. That is fine b/c he uses a cash back card for most things and I use DV for cell phone, drugstore, etc.. already.
Edited to add-none of my transactions show up as other. They all say an exact name (CVS, Sprint, Ebay, etc..)

Mine have the merchant name but in parentises it has a category the bank has assigned the purchase to. Sounds like only certain categories count towards the double reward and (other) isn't one of them.

I had the March to June offer, anything over $ 150 got double rewards. When I checked my offers just now, there is nothing listed so I guess I'm not eligible.
Are you better off using it, then stopping for a while in hopes that they'll send you an offer? We didn't really use it since other cards offered better rewards, and we weren't sure we were going back to DW this year. When we decided to go this year, and they offered 2%, I started charging everything.

i checked our's, and we're at anything over $1,000 (definately not as much as those that are at $2300). But then I saw that everything other than our internet and gas showed up as other. that got me so fired up that i fired off this letter:
Dear Bank One,
I just wanted to write a note to say how disappointed I was to see one of your new promos, id #105933. Please let me start off my stating that my job is exactly what the first person reading this does. I work customer service for a major sporting goods company, so I know that the person reading this was not in charge of this promo, so please know I do not mean to come off as angry. I'm just really disappointed.
I can understand why we have the $1,000 threshold to gain double rewards points, and others have a much lower rate (we charge everything in order to get rewards for our upcoming wedding in Disney World), and I understand that since we pay off our balance every month you don't really make money from us since we don't have any interest charges. However, I found it kind of cheesy that the double points are only on dollars OVER the $1,000 threshold. So the first grand that we would have spent (even though there's no way we could reach that, but I'll ge to that in a minute) would have counted for bubkis. What's the point? Other credit cards that I have will double your points after just $20, which you can get on every purchase you make.
Also, its really tough to get to the $1,000 when our local grocery store, Big Y Foods, is considered to be in the "Other" category. Why would this not be considered in the "Groceries" section? Perhaps it because its not a national chain.
However, Walgreens, a national drug-store chain, is also listed as an "Other". So under your policies, I'd need to spend a grand on gas just to qualify to potentially get double points.
Although there are some nice bonuses, the onboard credits for Disney Cruises, and the extra Disney Dollars at check in through packages at Disney World, these tend to be only a $15-25 addition to what someone without the Disney Visa can book through Disney by themselves. I hope that your marketing group will improve these offers going foward.
Thank you for your time.
Like I mention in there, since i work customer service, I know my letter will never really make a difference. But who knows? I know if we get enough complaints about something at work, we'll look for ways to make changes.

Okay, so now that I have been reading posts all day about DVC, I'm now wondering since Bank One seems to be such tight wads about their "rewards" categories, should we all just go to Discover who seem to give rewards easily and with much less hassle. I think I remember getting a check in the mail long ago when I used Discover. Boy, I would be really disappointed if I had charged over $1000 on the card and find out that all the categories were "other". Seems that with it's disqualifications, you could have earned with another card what you save in benefits with a DVC. And I'm still not clear on all the benefits of the DVC.
Any thoughts on why DVC rewards vs Discover?

I didn't receive the offer either -- and haven't received double offers in the past. I use this card for everything ($2000 to $3000 per month) and pay off each month. Guess they figure they don't have any reason to offer me incentives. :(

I just don't get it. We also use our card for everything and pay it off every month. But how is it physically possible for a family of 4 to spend over $2300/month just on the items that qualify. Our bill is always over this amount, but it includes many things that don't qualify. Our only chance of getting any double rewards is that we spend quite a bit on home expenses when we move next spring, but does Home Depot even qualify??

What got me was you only get the double rewards on the amount spent OVER your minimium - mine was $1000 - so that first $1000 is just the regular 1%. It's definitley not an incentive for me to use my card more.

When they did the last promo I:
E-mailed-no response
Snail mailed-no response
Had to call customer service for something so mentioned it and was basically told "oh well, too bad for you."
Will go back to the other card that I used to earn points with. Though I liked the idea of Disney rewards to offset vacation costs, these other points will do the same thing in a little different way. I already charge about $3000 per month and I don't have any other chargable expenses so I guess I'm out. I have said this before, but I really miss the DC everything was fair to all members and the perks were better.

I got the offer too, but I have to spend $800 first in the selected categories, and then anything over that $800 I'd get the 2%.
My answer to Bankone, is that I paid off the card, and transferred over my rewards dollars for this trip. We are using our AT&T MC this trip, that earns 5% on anything until 8/30/04. After that, I'm shopping for another card that pays better benefits! BankOne really isn't giving us much of anything! princess:
