Here is a picture of the beach on Mazatlan's Adventure Island at dusk. I'm not sure but my guess is this will be one of the shore excursions. They have all kinds of beach activities, horseback riding etc...
and it all comes with a nice catered meal... :D

Hi, I'm not on your cruise but I just saw that we were on the same cruise together in 2002. That cruise was so much fun except for getting off, it was my birthday and I got kicked off the ship.
Hope you have a fun cruise next year, we will be sailing a few weeks after you on 8/6.

OK. I want to hear this story... How did you get kicked off the cruuise? And how did I miss that party?

I'm cruising with my family the next week (June 18th). I am very excited to be going. We did the Wonder in 2002, but wanted to do a longer cruise with different ports (not the Nassau port again), so here we go --
What's so special is that it gives a good reason to see DL!
We're going to visit DL June 15. I am excited just to be able to be in the famous California!

We are going this week too! 6/11/05 - 6/18/05. It's our first cruise. Can't wait! DL is great, but I really like DCA! California Screamin is the best rollercoaster I have ever been on. :bounce:

Hi Monstro and Ppiglet!
I know that I am not on your cruise date (just the week after yours) but I was wondering whether anyone knew about how strict the "age minimum" standard would be for horseback riding. I noticed that they are age 10+.
Now my daughter is 9 (she won't be 10 until September) but she's in 4th grade with all the other kids who are 10; she just happens to be the youngest in her class. Regardless, she is the tallest in her class, so if it is a height issue, that should not be a problem.
I think she'd be fine with riding, however this age limit is prohibitive for our considering the excursions. I guess I'll need to call them as the time approaches to reserve the excursions, but I was hoping someone else might know.
Since they "bend" a little with the Club and Lab ages, would they "bend" with the excursions? Any thoughts or confirmation?
Thanks!
Monstro
02-03-2005, 09:12 AM
Vacationbug,
I'm not sure about the age restrictions. I've never tried to do any excursion that my kids were out of the age guidelines. So I've never had to cross that bridge.
When we were in Mazatlan a few years back, we went on the Stone Island tour. The picture above - taken at dusk is the beach there. They had horseback riding and I'm know a few of the riders were under 10. Check this link
http://www.mazinfo.com/stoneislandtour/index.htm
It's a beautiful spot.

Vacationbug-We found horseback riding with Randi's Happy horses. She'll take your daughter who's 9. My daughter is 8 and she's going with Randi. She has really good reviews on Cruisecritic.
If you want more info on excursions maybe Maztlan Frank's thread will give you some. But, he's only in Maztlan...oh, and Randi is too.

We can use all the help we can get. I've been following Mazatlan Franks's thread. There's a boatload of info there.
For anyone interested. We ate at Tony's on the Beach when we were In mazatlan a few years back. We've been thinking about a second helping.
Can't wait.... Almost to single digits.

It's probably about a 15 -20 minute cab ride. It's the same area as all the nice beaches and shops are. The special for two - all kinds of shrimp lobster and stuff is great! I believe Mazatlan Frank talked about it in his thread.

Monstro.... I don't know anything about Cabo, but we will be doing the Harbor cruise and Scenic Drive. (if it's not filled when I go to book it!) Since Cabo is an early leave port, we will just do the drop off for shopping after. Maybe Cabo Wabo for lunch. Wish we had more time there.

02-10-2005, 10:54 PM
I wish we had more time in Cabo as well. We've looked over the excursions and can't decide yet. The Land's End Costal Cruise is apealing to me. DW likes the Harbor Cruise and Scenic Drive. No one else in our sailing party has said anything.

Hey pppiglet,
How are you? Is it drying out over there? We had a soccer tournament in Phoenix last weekend. It was rained out.
Who's in your sailing party?
Maybe we need to start organizing some fun activities... have you seen all the activities the repo cruisers are doing?
pppiglet
02-26-2005, 12:34 PM
Yes.. finally drying out! I also was reading what the repo cruisers were doing. Kinda neat, but for a first timer like us, we will be plenty busy checking out things on the ship! Most of those people have sailed many times before, so I think they will have lots of fun on their cruise.
Doesn't look like too many on our cruise from here. I have one (stinasmom) that I will probably meet up in the fitness room with.
It will be me (44) DH (44) and DS (21). Cruise critic board for Mexican riviera helped me out alot in planning for what to do in the afternoons after our excursions in the morning. Lot of good reading over there.
Have fun!

Hey we are going too!........me, DW, DD (10) and DS (14)- hope I got those abbreviations right. Anyways, this will be our third Disney cruise and we are really looking forward to it. Its especially nice that we can drive to the boat as opposed to flying across the country. We have never been to Mazatlan nor Puerto Vallarta (and its been 15 years since I've been to Cabo) so if anyone has any recommendations for those ports let us know. We typically set off on our own and skip the excursions unless there is something we just shouldn't miss. Monstro, it looks like you have spent some time down there, let us know. Adios amigos..........

Hey. Welcome aboard. We have a 10 year old dd as does our friends from Georgia.
We spent a week at the Carlsbad Inn and Beach Club last year - absolutly loved it. - Great place!
I've only been to Mazatlan once. None of the Mazatlan shore excursions interested us so we decided to go to the golden zone and hang out at the Hotel Playa - Mazatlan. A couple years back when we were there there was all sorts of things to do - shopping, para sailing, jet ski's, etc, etc.
We're renting a couple of day rooms so the older/younger members of our party have a place to rest and the kids can play in the hotel pools.

Monstro - thanks for the Matzalan tip....we will have to get the girls introduced........In Cabo I was kicking around the idea of a 1/2 day sportfish charter with my son (while the girls shop), its the back end of striped marlin season and the front end of Dorado - who knows? Let me know if anyone in your party might be interested in sharing the cost........(it will probably have to be catch&release as they may not let us back on the boat with no stinkin fish!)

Welcome Dawnee and tikihut4!
I dont' know how my subscription to this thread got cancelled but now I'll be back on! For our newbies...We are traveling with me 38, DH39, DD8, and DS4.
Monstro--you asked about Cabo...
We have been down there 4 times, staying at various timeshare resorts...which btw, are really gorgeous and luxurious on the whole in this area! We have been to some fabulous restaurants and even stayed out late and partook of the wild night life once (inlaws were there to watch kids). Now, since the ship will only be in port for the morning and early afternoon, we'll all have to congaline onboard later!
The shopping is really pretty good. The vendors definitely know when the cruise ships are in port, however! It you like to haggle, you're set, if not, be ready to pay. There is everything from trinket vendors, the wandering kind who approach you at your outdoor table at a restaurant and especially at the beach, alley way stands, and very expensive galleries. You can walk the town from the marina. Unlike PV, we have never had any problem with the food or water and getting sick.
I don't have any experience with the excursions listed. We are saving our $$ for DL/DCA post cruise.
Not sure if I was any help!

pppiglet - We booked back in October but we have been so busy with school, extra-curricullar(does this thing have spell check?) activities and a new business that we haven't had time to get fired up about the cruise. We were last on the Magic in 2003 and I remember hooking up with a bunch of boardies in Port Canaveral before the cruise and we had a blast. Hi All! Forgot to give my stats: Me, DH, DD (9), and DD (5 - who'll be 6 a couple of weeks after our cruise) :bounce:
Unless something good comes along, lkohawaii and I were thinking:
PV - shopping
Mazatlan - Randi's Happy Horses and Frank's Tour
Cabo - ATV's (DH's only), don't know yet what we'll be doing with the kids, though lkohawaii wants to take a boat tour to see some rocks??!! :confused3
As this trip is costing me an arm and a leg, I think in Cabo I'd rather hang out on the ship. I guess it depends on how much money I spend shopping!!! LOL! :rotfl2:

Tikihut4,
I don't know that any of our group are fishermen. I went deep sea fishing in Alaska a few years back and got seasick. I'm hesitant to try it again. I'll put the word out to the rest of the party.

Good morning, left a message on the other thread. Guess my DH has already posted. Like he said, we hooked up with other Dis board members at our last cruise, pretty fun. I especially am looking for someone traveling with a teenage son. My DS, 14.5 is lamenting that there won't be anyone there his age and he'll be forced to hang-out with his little sister :confused3
I printed out excursion info. from DCL site. With our Caribbean cruises we scheduled our excursions independently from DCL, had much luck.
We'll be researching, and posting what we find out. Love it that I don't need to worry about packing things I buy to fit in a suitcase for a flight. Just off-load into the car!
Has anyone received their travel packets yet? Seems like they should be comming sometime soon.
Blessings,

Is anyone planning on doing any shopping at the Ports? I don't know what it's like on the "mainland" but here in Hawaii, when you go off island, you have to bring back gifts for everyone and their mother. I thought that instead of getting something from California/Disney, I would get something in Mexico to bring back for everyone. Any ideas? Mostly women, they are not into baking (vanilla), or jewlry, I was thinking about alcohol, but as I'm not really a drinker myself....didn't know what to buy besides Tequila, and from what I've read, sometimes you can get the Tequila at Sam's/Costco cheaper here than in Mexico.....
TIA!

I think we will wear one on our shirts on embarkation and if I have time I will make a magnet for our door. Also someone suggested putting them on your lanyards so Disers will recognize you throughout the cruise. They are sticky back heads, but haven't tested any yet to see how they stick to clothes.

I have to admit I don't like to shop in Mexico...I don't like to haggle for a price that it probably twice what the item is actually worth. I don't like the pressure sales tactics and annoyances of the vendors who wander the streets and the beaches.
That said, however, you can find lots of nice souvenirs, at a fair price relative to most souvenirs. Ceramics for sure! Lots of ceramics! Anything from salt & pepper shakers to statues. Carved wood items like animals. Dolls and marionette type puppets. Blankets!! Lots of woven blankets...not so much for warmth in Hawaii but great for picnics, beach blankets.
I think you will be happy with the variety of things to purchase that look like they are from Mexico. You're right about the silver jewelry and vanilla! It's everywhere!
As for the tequila, we have lots of taxes here in WA so it is definitely cheaper in Mexico. We always bring some back. There is a limit per person (over age 21) of 1-2 liters or something. Worth checking out. (Gee, guess I better find out too!) You could price it at your Sams/Costco club next time you're there to have a comparison. What is really the good deal is the high end tequila...but one would really have to appreciate tequila to know the difference!
Good luck! Maybe we'll shop together a bit at one of the ports! I am so looking forward to meeting everyone!

Sorry, guys...I've been trying to finish up making a DVD from my trip years ago. It's been taking every waking moment..so like Dawnee said I've been a bit busy. So Monstro don't worry I'm not a very private person. I'm sure by when we'll meet you'll think you could have not been more wrong. My daughter is 8 so I'll change it. Hopefully by posting here I'll be back to subscribing. My DVD should be done by the end of the week and then I'll be back on with you guys. I've been thinking a lot of all of you even though I haven't been checking the boards.

Sorry Monstro for the awful post. I was trying to post and leave school in a hurry. I didn't even proof read (but that's not new....Dawnie always teases me about that). Others who read will think I don't speak english. I meant to say that after we meet you'll think man she's not a private person at all. Private people are the ones who lurk on the boards and don't post until the last minute aren't they....sound familiar to someone out there?

Monstro-you mentioned something about Daylight savings time. Can you explain more. Here in the islands of sun we don't have daylight savings time. When does it start? Does that mean that the arrival time on my plane ticket has to be moved up an hour?
I'm not finished with my DVD but Dawnee made me feel so bad neglecting all of you that I'm back and putting my DVD to rest for a few days. I thought since we had a kids thread going we should have a family thread going. Hope this is O.k. monstro. Monstro-you mentioned something about Daylight savings time. Can you explain more. Here in the islands of sun we don't have daylight savings time. When does it start? Does that mean that the arrival time on my plane ticket has to be moved up an hour?
Daylight Saving Time :sunny: begins for most of the United States at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April. Time reverts to standard time at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.
The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called "Summer Time" many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening
If you live near the equator, day and night are nearly the same length (12 hours). But elsewhere on Earth, there is much more daylight in the Summer than in the Winter. The closer you live to the North or South pole, the longer the period of daylight in the summers. Thus, Daylight Saving Time (Summer Time) is usually not helpful in the tropics, and countries near the equator generally do not change their clocks
check here for more infor http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/c.html
I'd guess your plane ticket already reflects the change in your arrival time. :sunny:

Thanks Monstro...I feel so silly asking such a question. Now, that you mention it I remember doing this when we lived in Germany for a few years. I guess we could, but we all love to meet new people. I've never participated in a cruise meet - would love to do it for this cruise.
The nice thing about this type of vacation is all the great people you meet.
We were dinner mates with our friends from Georgia on our first Disney Cruise. This will be our third cruise together and I'm sure we'll book our fourth while we're on board.

Marcy
Thanks Marcy! Will have to check prices here for Tequila, which I have to say, I don't know anything about. I was hoping to bring back flavored type, maybe small bottles - not airplane sized, a bit bigger, but not full sized either - did that make sense? Do you know of any "tasting bars" in Mexico?

Where and when did you do the cruise meet? I've heard right after the life vest drill before the sail away is good... don't know for sure. Probably have to see the Navigator for this cruise itinerary first.
Any interest in a cruise meet?

This is actually our 4th Disney Cruise.
I was all set and planning on going to a cruise meet on our 04' cruise, but we got cancelled by Hurricane Francis. My wife and I did a make-up 3 day Bahamas cruise, but there were very few people from the boards that a cruise meet was never organized. I'll admit, I was a shadow lurker... I didn't post to that thread and no meet was ever organized. Ended up that our dinner table mates were also lurkers... see a lot of people do it.
On our Francis cruise, the cruise meet was going to be right after the safety drill in the Promenade Lounge - just before the sail away party.

To everyone: I posted a thread on the other board, to get suggestions for a meet and they suggest (so far the 3 that answered) 3:00 as a good time and in the Promenade lounge or secret deck 7. Good thread pppiglet. A lot of good info there. I like 3:00 in The Promenade Lounge or Secret Deck 7. I also like the idea of having a back-up Sunday meet. We could plan that when we see the navigator.

I think I am putting a Mickey Head on our id holders, also may wear a lime green shirt on embarking that I already had. There is still quite a few rooms on our cruise according to the DCL website, and the prices haven't gone up since I booked back in June. I think if you have small kids and they want to swim when you get on the ship, then maybe we should meet after the drill before the sail away party. Maybe on that secret deck 7 since no one but us Disers will know about it! Let me know what you all think.

I like after the drill and before the sail away party because I'd like to explore a little and then ask everyone questions at our get together - LOVE the idea of the boat not being full -lots of schools in session until mid-June
Are you considering the Sonic Boom Disney green color as our color?

I have some of both green mickey heads, so I'll probably use both. I'm not picky. If I see anyone wearing a green Mickey head (even if it's dark green) I'll assume they are Disers!
I am not sure what time the drill is on our cruise, but if we all just go to our room and drop off our vest then head to the back of deck 7 it should be a nice quiet place to meet. We can sit and watch the ocean til everyone arrives!
We might go check out the port next weekend if we have time.

I like the after drill time too for our meet. I would hate to have to rush to be somewhere by 3pm if the kids are swimming, or we are all exploring or unpacking. There is a nice break between the drill and the first dinner. The "not-so-secret" deck 7 is a great idea. I would love to become familiar with it early on (and have DH know where it is incase we need a quiet meeting place! )
I will also be wearing a lime(ish) green tank top on the day we all board. Not sure what we are doing with the mickey heads yet, but I have started planning some door decorations.
Can't believe it is getting closer! Just can't wait!!
Monstro
04-18-2005, 10:50 PM
I prefer 3:00 or 3:15 and here's why.
After the drill on our first Disney Cruise we slowly got ready for dinner and then decided to explore the ship. Low-and-behold we bumped into this awesome deck (sail away) party.
The deck party was one of the highlights of our next cruise - the kids out there dancing with all the other kids and Grandpa out there in the middle of it all with his video camera. People who knew what they were doing got to the goofy pool early. I recommend you all do that. We'll have first time cruisers with us and I want to make sure they don't miss any of that party.
For that reason I recommend we do a 3:15 cruise meet in the Promenade Lounge. It’s close to mid ship – there's places to sit and from there it will be easy for everyone to make it back to their cabins for the drill.
Then when we see the Navigator from previous cruisers, we can plan a second cruise meet on Sunday or Monday on the secret deck 7.
This was from pppiglets thread:
Our most successful ones have been at 3 pm up on deck 10 mid-ship.
Why it works:
By 3pm just about everyone is on board, had lunch and made their reservations
3pm is a pretty quiet time then so you can hear each other (can't do this easily at sailaway)
It gives you a good 1/2 hour to meet and greet before heading back to your cabin and getting ready for the safety drill
After meeting at 3pm everyone knows where to get together again for sailaway
For those who have kids who want to swim you are right above the Goofy pool
Good luck planning your meet. Sailing with other DIS'ers is the best!
Thoughts?

Are kids allowed in the Promenade Lounge? Hopefully someone will post the times of everything or a Navigator before we go. Or maybe do both the before and after the drill meets and whoever can make it go to whichever or both. (if that makes sense) I think everyone might be engrossed in their own plans by Sunday or Monday! Even if the meets are only 15 min. at least we will know who we all are and can recognize each other when we pass on the ship. I guess we have to watch for those first trip reports!

Deb, I got a cute name tag from someone on the DIS. She said it's in Power Point. I'll try to get it into a program I can use and I'll print them up for you guys. I need to get everybody's name to put on it. Is the best way to do that to post my e mail address on here? I've never done this so I don't know.
I was also thinking of somehow making small green mickey heads for us to put on our lanyards or something so that when we see each other around and are not to sure if that was the person we met at the meet that the green mickey head would help us. The truth is I'm really bad with names...so this is to help me. I don't want any of you to think I'm unfriendly. I'm still trying to figure this one out. Somebody out there please help with ideas if you have any. Maybe I should post a thread for ideas.

I also was thinking the same thing.....Do I want to wear a lanyard everyday?!!! So that's why the Dis meet is good. You'll recognize my DH by the pool though. I let him pick out his own swim trunks and told him at the store to put them on the counter in the pile we were buying and didn't see them til we got home. WOW! He'll be the one that looks like he's on fire! He likes crazy clothes.

I don't know how to attach a picture of that name tag...or Monstro are you not one to wear a name tag either? :earseek: It's o.k. if you're not....it'll mean that I'll just have to study that much harder before we board.
I'll wear a name tag at the cruise meet. I have a green lanyard and I'll wear it whenever I need to I.E. Shore excursions etc...
I sent you a PM with the photo password. Let me know what you think. I'd love to get pictures of everyone in the album.

Cute pictures and loved the storyline attached Monstro! It's going to be an excellent album I can tell. I can email you a picture...it's a year old, but we still look the same. Although my DS and DH have lost weight since then. So PM me with your email address.

Ppiglet gave me the go ahead on the nametags.
Monstro...don't worry I won't make you wear a name tag for 7 days...just for the cruise meets...then you can pull it off and trash it. The photo's are a good idea. If I can put a name to faces before the cruise that'll probably help more than having a lime green something stuck on someone. As soon as I get the nametags so that I can edit them I'll post and everyone can start Pm'ing me. I don't want to have everybody sending info until I know I can do it. I'll work on it this weekend and probably post by Monday.

We'll get one into you somewhow. Hey, can you tell us the names of the people in the photos. I love it!!! I think there's a Boo family but don't know their names. I'll have to go back and look at our list and figure out who all these people are. Maybe it'll be a project for Dawn and I.

Thanks for posting the name tag for me Monstro. We couldn't figure out how you could get it on your post. Where it says relationship on that green Mickey head is where your DIS name will go. I had to make a database and the "relationship" field is the field I put it in. Since Calvin is my DH he doesn't have a screen name and I guess on our label the field appears. When I print it's blank. So, PM me your familiy's info and I'll start putting it into the database.

I just checked the disney cruiseline website, and our ship is sold out!! It's gonna be a FULL ship!
Scratch that - when I put in a reservation for 2 adults, 2 kids 9 & 5, nothing came up, but when I put in for just 2 adults, almost all of the categories came up 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, & 12. After fooling around with different kids ages it seems as though the kids club is filled for ages 4-9. If I put 2 adults and an 11 year old, our sailing also comes up......just fyi!
Do you think this means that we might be able to get an upgrade then? :rotfl: I won't hold my breath, but it sure would be nice!!!

Hello all,
 Have been searching on Cruise Critic for months, and have gotten very little activity. We booked this cruise August, 2004 after we returned from Disneyworld. Will be on cruise with DW and our 2 grandchildren, GS 5 (turning 6 1 week after we get back from cruise) and GD 3.5. They are both soooo excited about this cruise, it's all they have been talking about for months.
DW and I started cruising a few years ago, but this is 1st Disney Cruise. Our daughter and son-in-law are cruising the Med for 10th anniversary, so we decided to be brave and thake grandkids on Disney Cruise, particularly since it's right here on Left Coast.
We are early seating because kids are early eaters....
DW and I have question for seasoned Disney Cruisers: We love dancing, and figure there are "adult only" dance lounges onboard for nighttime activity. Anyone know about the accomodations for the kids in the evening so we can get away for a few hours?
Booked excursions: PV swim with dolphins and then will tour city and hang out at beach. Mazatlan we are on same excursion as Grandma Debbie...Nothing yet for CSL....I may go diving there and hook up with the rest at the beach.
I wouldlove to access the picture site and get some pix of us up there. Also, will plan to meet with everyone at designated "meet" site.
Great to finally find this thread. :sunny:

StewieL,
Regarding childcare:
Kids at least three years of age that are potty-trained can enjoy supervised play at The Oceaneer Club or Lab. The club is for younger kids. Kids 12 weeks to 3 years old or kids not yet toilet-trained can use the Flounders reef Nursery.
Reservations are required for Flounder’s and is one of the things you should do very soon after boarding. Only a limited number of spaces are available. Flounder’s charges $6.00/hour.
The kids clubs are free. They are open from 9:00 AM to Midnight – Sometime 1:00 AM.
Hope this helps.

You can call and request to be "linked" Linked is when they assign you together for dinner seating. For example. Our group of 19 are all "Linked" We'll all have the same dinner rotation with tables next to each other.
To be linked you need to share the same seating - early or late and you both (or more) should call and request it.

Dawn's DIS name is Dawnee. I just e mailed her and asked her about the attendance when she played with the ressies on the ship. I'll see her tomorrow and I'll ask her again. She's just hoping for an upgrade...that's why she's playing around with the ship's ressie...trying to wish herself an upgrade.
My DS tells me to go on the Mickey boat without him since Mickey doesn't want him in Diapers. So, at that point I stopped pushing. It would take a miracle to get him to go in a month. I know though that god does perform miracles. I'll just have to see what's in the plans.

In answer to someone's question about the kids club being full:
I believe that most age groups of the kids clubs are full. When I was fooling around, I tried different ages from 3 - 12. At that time, it would allow two 10 - 12 year olds, but not three in the 10 - 12 year old age group. Forget about the younger kids, it wouldn't take them, or I should say show any rooms available on our cruise date. If I put in adults only, with a 2 year old, no problem, they had lots of cabins in different categories available.
HTH someone!!

Are you just going to the DCL website? About an hour ago it would let me choose Cat 4-12 with two adults and a 4 year old but not two kids of any age. It would also let me choose those categories with one adult and two kids ages 3 and 4. A day or two ago it didn't have any available. Wonder why it would fluctuate since the cancellation period has passed?
Do you know if the kids clubs are officially full if they will let us put her in when it's not crowded with the promise of us coming to get her if a bunch more kids come?
Thanks!

Hello,
For some reason, I can't login anymore under dkchavez, so....here I am again under dizneygirl. My family and I are on this cruise. You have us down as not having name tags. I'm new to all this message board stuff so I'm not to sure what all the abbreviations mean yet. Just let me know what you need from us. There are 12 of us. We are all very excited but I am also very nervous after reading about some of the experiences some people have had on some of the cruises. I can't wait to hear from people who go on the first West Coast cruise this month.
Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I've been away from the Board for a few days . I am reading all this stuff about the "clubs being full" and I am wondering, did I miss something. I am new to DCL and, for that matter, new to cruising withkids. Were we supposed to book our grandkids into the Club or something? As I was reading it seems that DCL may have just already placed them in a club (because of their ages) and they are just not taking more reservations for the cruise of familieswith kids in the age groups where the numbers have already reached a "critical mass".
So, ahich is it? Am I supposed to be calling someone at DCL and reserving the spots for Quinn (1 week away from 6) and Simone (3.5)?
Would love some advice here.
I guess I need to review the posts and find out where the first meet area is. Looks like we are planning to meet on deck 10 for the sail-away.
Last....who else has early seating? We have the 4 of us at early seating and would love to link with others on this thread.

StewieL,
From my understanding Disney only allows so many kids on the ship. That is to ensure the kids clubs have room all of them and to maintain the counselor to kid ratio. You do not need to call and register the kids for the kids club. What you need to do is register them the day we board the ship. In fact that is one of the first things I'd do. Get your kids signed up for the clubs. If you have a child that needs child care, you’ll want to get them signed up as early as possible.
Cruise Meet: We have two set (in case someone misses the first). The first is in the Promenade Lounge on Saturday June 11th at 3:15. The second is at the sail away party on deck 10 dock side over looking the Goofy pool. This is a good place to enjoy the sail away party because you can also watch the ship pull away from the dock.

I think I probably caused the confusion here. My younger DD will be a couple of weeks away from turning three. We were told she could do the kids club with her older sister (who's four) if there was room. If her age kids club is full (meaning there are the maximum number of 3-4 year-olds on board), she might have to go to Flounder's. DCL will only allow the max # of kids ages 3-4 to book rooms so every one that is actually ages 3-4 is guaranteed a spot. Sophie is very close to Natalie and they love to do things with each other so I really want them to get to go together.
Sorry for the misunderstanding!

No confusion and no problem. Monstro, thanks for the update.
Now another question...are there formal nights on the Magic (I suspect there is at least one). What do the kids wear? How about the guys? The Women?
Thanks,

Stewart,
My wife and girls wear nice dresses and I wear a suit. We've talked about renting a tux - we may do that some day, but not yet. I've seen boys on formal night in everything from tuxes and suits to dress pants with a nice shirt. There are many great opportunities to get a nice family picture.

Good morning everyone,
It's been some time since we've checked in and taken the time to reply. Getting excited for the cruise. Haven't booked our excursions yet, but we do have some ideas of what we'd like to do.
In response to some of the things that you all have asked and have been discussing:
Thanks Mostro for sharing the photo album. I will send you pics of us sometime today. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. The last one, we were involved in a Dis-meet. It was actually the day before at a hotel, but on board sounds much better. I like the promenade lounge or deck 7, whichever everyone agrees on. Thanks Ikohawaii for doing the badges, I think it's a great idea!
Regarding the child-clubs. I remember it being quite important to get over there early and sign up the kids for the club. Also, if I recall correctly, they don't open immediatly upon boarding. So, you need to check when they open and have one adult take them to sign up. We had to have the child with us as they attach a wrist band, and give the adult a pager. Our first cruise, our oldest was 10 and they told me that most kids 10 and older wern't signed into the lab but had free run of the ship! I was a bit taken-aback, but we left it where he could sign himself in and out. He spent most of his time (that he wasn't with us) either in the lab or the arcade. We took walkie-talkies with us, and found that these were very helpful. Our daughter (soon to be 11) especially loved the clubs. She's our social butterfly (makes friends wherever she goes). DCL does good job of entertaining them.
Dinner seating: On our past 2 DCL cruises we had the late seating, and have signed up for that again as well. The early time, just seemed to interfeer with our afternoon fun. Some days we would snack on those amazing chicken strips they have by the pool to tide us over till dinner.
Either way, the evening always seems rushed as there's so much to do.
Formal evenings: In the past, there were 2 formal evenings. One was very formal . . . the one where they have the professional photos set up. On the last cruise my DH rented a tux. It was really fun, and looks great in the photos. He also wore it one night when we had a date at Palo. Gotta love a man in a tux! Haven't decided if we'll do that this year. Our son, now 14.5 will want to get one as well, so that's double the trouble!
A note about "Shutters". DCL is constantly taking amazing pictures of everyone. And they display them all week long at shutters. They prefer that you buy them as you see them, but I was able to collect them and go on the final morning to make my choices. You could easily spend $3-$400.00 on these. I budget $100.00 for the pic's. My strategy: Go once or twice a day and edit out the shots you don't like (there's a recycle bin close by), then begin collecting the shots you like by stacking them one behind the other. I have never had trouble with this. Also, get to know the staff. Another tip, as you're standing in line to have pictures taken with the characters, get to know the folks your in line with and have them use your camera to take a shot while the pro's take theres. At least in the past this is no problem. I prefer digital, as you can check it out right away and re-take if you don't like it. On our first cruise May 2001. I had a nice Cannon 35 mm. I took 11 rolls of film and aprox. 70% of my photos did not come out as my shutter was sticking. This was something I had no idea was happening! It was very upsetting. In fact that's why we booked our second cruise for the very next year. So, we could re-take some pictures!
On board:
Get reservations at Palo.
Don't miss the sail party.
The adult areas are a kick, they usually have "family friendly" shows early then adult themed later.
We've enjoyed the kitchen tours and wine tasting.
I'm an early riser and love the coffee cart on deck 9? sitting, reading devotions, with nothing but blue sky and blue ocean surrounding me. Very calm and quite early in the day. Can't wait. Cruising is the ONLY vacation I've ever had where I feel like I don't need a vacation when I get home!
I hope this isn't too long of a post. We'll try to stay connected frequently now.
Blessings,
Tami

Tikihut4...welcome back! We are going to meet in the Promenade lounge at 3:15 on the first day and then again by the goofy pool for sailaway on the dock side for any that can't make it to the first meet.
Also if you didn't find the thread yet, you can go to the DCL site and prebook your Palo and kids club spots. Check it out...it is so cool!

Another note....for those of you going to DL before or after the cruise, the new fireworks show is awesome! It's at 9:30 and you need to get a seat at least by 7-7:30 or earlier since by that time in June school will be out and it will be more crowded. Sit on the curb (or street) right in front of the castle for the best performance. The fireworks will surround you!

Someone on here help!!!!! My son won't be able to go to the clubs since he's not potty trained. Gave up on that idea remember. Now, he tells me when he goes #1 in his diaper but I'm not holding my breath.
My question is I want to get him dinner quickly (in the dining room with us-he won't sit for 11/2 hours) and then put him in Flounder's finish up my dinner with peace and then go to the shows. I have early seating. Those of you who have been on the cruises before what time should I put my son in Flounders and what time does the last show end and can I pick him up? Also, are the shows every night. I'm limited to 10 hours so I don't want to waste my slots on nights that I can watch him. I hope someone can help me. :confused3

Aloha Sherri!
I may not be much help as this will be my first cruise, but I have heard that kids do pretty well at the dinners, better than your average restaurant, because the servers can be entertaining, there is activity around (like the light show at AP), and there will be so many other kids that your DS2 won't be the only one acting like a 2 year old!! The parents around you will likely understand and emphasize with just about any behavior!
That said I do remember when my DS was 2 and we just avoided restaurants all together for about 18 months!! And I can understand the desire to enjoy the meal yourself.
I also wanted to mention that I heard that some of the shows are performed as matinees sometime during the afternoon. I am thinking that might be a great way to see it and free up the evening.
Good luck working it all out! Hope someone else has better, real experience advice!

Hi! This is Monstro's wife. :) This is my suggestion. I would ask the head server if it's possible to bring the child's plate first, while everyone else is deciding or waiting to be served. Explain to the server that you'd like to take him to Flounders asap so that he could play and you and your party could have an enjoyable dinner. They are soooo accomadating that they aim to please as much as possible. If not, place your order and walk the hall until your dinner comes. The kid's dinner is on one plate, excluding dessert( which comes at the same time with the adult's dessert) so as soon as he's done, you can take him to the club(they don't have the 4-course dinner like the adults). I know you can drop him before your dinner and maybe you can ask if they'll get him fed. I've seen kids being fed in groups while they're in their clubs and the parents are in land shopping or whatever. Maybe this is just for older groups. It wouldn't hurt to ask. If this was the Western cruise, I could tell you which shows not to miss for sure. Since this is a new itineary, who knows what exciting shows they're going to have. We're pretty sure there's probably a welcome show and a good-bye show which you wouldn't want to miss. There are also adult activities after the shows at different clubs. We love the comedy shows. If you want him to eat with you, plan on checking him in at 7ish and picking him up anytime between 10:00 and midnight. This is difficult because we don't have any navigators to look at. After the first west coast cruise we should have an idea of show times.

Thanks Ann, This is just what I wanted to know. I reserved 7-9:30 on I think 3 of the nights and my Paulo Brunch day. I would reserve more but I ran out of slots. I think I only reserved an hour on Pirate night and none on the Maztlan night because I don't even know if we'll be back onboard for dinner and I think I left the Friday night open thinking they wouldn't have a big show when everybody packs. I guess when I see the first navigator I can try to change times. I'm just hoping that they'll have more openings that I can have on a waiting list. I don't mind paying....just give me the slots. Watch with my luck my DS will scream in there and I'll never be able to use Flounders.
When does the first cruise go out after the repositioning. I'm leaving home June 1...so I hope I'll be able to see a navigator before I leave. It's so nice to put a message to a face. Can't wait to meet you in about a month. :cheer2:

Embarkation Form - one of these needs to be filled out for each passenger.
Payment Authorization Form – One per cabin/sailing party. We fill one out for each adult.
Cruise Contract - One per person. Parents sign for minors.
Medical Information Form – Must be something new. Self explanatory.
Minor Authorization Form – Self explanatory.
Hope this helps. Also, a number of you have promised me pictures. I'm being very patient here. :) Help Please! I'd love to add more pictues to our album. :)

Hello all! My dad told me about this website yesterday, and now I am addicted.
My husband and I will be on the 6/11. It will be his first cruise and my third Disney cruise. I was on the Christmas cruise in '04 when he was deployed. We don't have any kids. Are there any other couples out there without kids?
We have the late dinner seating. I wish they would tell you your dinner rotation in advance to plan for Palo. I don't want him to miss the first night of AP and I love Lumiere's!
I was reading today and saw that there is a new show starting soon, a twist to Cinderella. I'm sorry to see Hercules leave. It was so funny.
We've booked two excursions...
PV- Historic towns and tequila making
CSL- snorkel & sail fiesta
Even if you mess up on the forms you receive in the mail, they always have extras at port.

We are cruise newbies and are so excited! We are quite happy about not having to fly all the way to Florida for this experience too. We have DS4 and DD8 but I do hope they will enjoy lots of time in the clubs!
We have late seating too..could be tricky with the kids...I suspect they will only be joining us for the special nights.
We booked Palo dinner for the Mazatlan night as we are not going on an excursion, there was no other theme that night, and by then we should have been to each restaurant at least once. That is certainly an advantage of a 7-nighter over the shorter cruises.
Well, we are looking forward to meeting you and everyone on board.

Okay, I was wondering if anyone knew what nights were formal and semi-formal nights and if there is any word yet on when the shows are going to be so that I can plan to put my son in Flounders Nursery.
I just spoke with a representative from Disney Cruise Line and he said there is no way to know at this point when the shows or formal/semi formal nights will be because they can change.
I know there are some of you that have cruised with Disney before so maybe you can give me some advise. This is our first Disney Cruise so I'm so glad I have this message board to help out. :earsboy:
My son is 2 and I know he won't sit too long for dinner or a show. I know you can book the Nursery now but I don't want to book the times wrong.
Any advise or does anyone know where I can go to find out what nights I should make arrangements for him? I'm glad I found out you can reserve the times in Flounders now as a Disney rep told me last week I couldn't until we got on the ship.
Thank you so much!

You know, I remember writing a post about this and what I'm wearing and some other things in reponse to a post of yours a week or so ago and for some reason it never posted!!?! :confused3 Oh, well, here is what I know:
We are hearing that Formal night is Sunday night, Semi formal/Captain's Gala (and lobster) night is Thursday night, and Pirate night is Tuesday. No word on 80's night, 70's night or an anniversary/birthday party night for DL...no other themes have been announced. Some of us don't like that many surprises!
Hope that helps! And I hope you get the Flounder Times you want!

Welcome Aggie00! We have an on-line cruise photo album going. So far we have about half of us in it. I'll PM you the password to access it. I'd love to add you guys to it.
Anyone else get docs yet?
tikihut4
05-12-2005, 01:04 AM
Regarding the docs. Seeing that some of you have gotten yours already I called DCL today to inquire. They said that ours was sent on May 6th, 3-day air. However, we made our initial reservations through Costco Travel. And they sent the Doc's to them! So . . . called them and they will send them Parcel Post when they process them as received. Would be nice to have them in hand.
I can't remember who posted it, Pppiglet? About reservations on-line! Way cool. They didn't have that 3 years ago. Thanks.
Narrowing down our excursions: For Cabo, DH & DS(14) will most likely do the fishing, and me and DD (10) the beach horseback riding or the kayaking to Los Arcos. We'd love to do both, but not sure if there's enough time. Perhaps we'll do the horseback riding, then see if a local dude could take us to Los Arcos. We've had fabulous luck with local impromptu tours in the past . . . but without our "guys" with us, not sure. I didn't see tux rentals on the on-line extras part of the reservations?? For those of you that already have your docs, do they have the tux rental form included in there?
Thanks
Tami

Tami,
We're also interested in going to Los Arcos in Cabo. Any pointers you can give us on getting a local tour company or guide to take us. Can't seem to find anything.

Re: Local Shore Excursions
In the past we usually just hired someone at the dock. Many times at the ports there are companies and taxis, tour companies soliciting the passengers. You just want to be sure it's an actual company. We did this at St. Martin and Grand Cayman to swim with thehsting rays; had amazing experiences, custom & private and many times less expensive. There are no guarentees though, so you'd need to be willing to "go with the flow". Have you tried some of the other cruise sites. There's probably a wealth of information at www.cruisecritic.com re: Cabo or any of the mexican Riviera Ports for that matter. I just don't have time right now. Have oodles of things to get done before school is out. If you do . . . keep us posted :-)
Thanks,
Tami

Oh, BTW, when I spoke to DCL today she told me we will embark at 1:00, and they'll open the treminal at 11:00. Parking is off site at $11.00/day and they shuttle you over. If you're flying in, then that's part of the deal, but you probably already know that. Looking forward to not flying this time. :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

When you say embark..you mean they will start letting you board right? Will they not be serving lunch that day because it's 1:00 before you start getting on? :confused3

In Florida, people embark around 1:00 PM. They serve lunch so that they have somewhere to put all the people until the ship leaves the port. The staterooms aren't available when you first get on board. They have the hallways blocked off because the rooms are still being cleaned. I could be wrong, but I bet they will serve lunch.
Tami... Thanks for the parking info. We're not sure if we are going to drive our own car and park, or rent a car there and rent a car back.
Marcy... All of the people I have encountered on the ship say that their kids love it in the clubs. They make so many new friends. Of course, I don't know all of the details regarding clubs, but I hear good things about it. I do know that you have to be careful with your teenagers late at night. On the Christmas cruise my brother and I would stay up late (he's 20 I'm 26) and we would hear/see lots of interesting things with the "Stack" group.
I never saw people dress up for 80's or 70's night at dinner. The party was always later at Rockin' Bar D. All of the crew staff was dressed up, but I didn't see too many of the guests. If you have the opportunity to go to the parties, they are a blast. The crew members on the Christmas cruise were great. I hope to see them again.
No documents here. :(
Thanks for the warm welcome. :) I'm counting the days... my last day of school is the 10th and then the cruise is on the 11th. Woohoo!

Hey Pppiglet! Congrats on getting the docs! Maybe we'll start getting our docs in the next week or so...we're right behind you on the June 18th! :goodvibes
Hi Aggie: would you please elaborate on the late-night activities of the "teen" group. I have a young teen (he'll be 14 in July and going into high school in the fall) and I am somewhat anxious about various things I have read about the behavior of some teens on the cruise. Nothing detailed is needed as far as an elaboration, but I would like to distinguish whether teens are "just talking" (I have heard some do this by or in the stairways after the teen club closing) after hours or behaving "inappropriately". As young adults do you think that it is because those teens didn't have to go back to their stateroom after the clubs closed (i.e. "curfew") or was it during the teen club hours?
Thanks in advance,
Vacationbug

What is the "Stack" group? I am a bit concerned about my 14 (thinks he's 25) year old. Wishing I could check him in and out of something, but know that's unreasonable. Another reason, to help them get connected before the cruise.

Tikihut: the "Stack" and "Aloft" are the names of the physical facilities for the Teen "clubs" (akin to the Oceaneer Lab and Oceaneer Clubs for the younger groups of children). The Teen "club" is located up where the ESPN skybox thingy used to be (like Deck 10 or something up there). It's a "teens-only" area and ages range from 13-17.
"Stack" is the club on the Magic and "Aloft" on the Wonder (or perhaps I got it backwards?)
I hope that helps! :)

Vacationbug,
I'm just going from what I heard from the teens when I was on the ship at Christmas. I had unlimited internet access and would talk with them while I was on the computer. I teach 7th and 8th graders, so I know that the truth can and will be stretched. I also encountered them after the Stack (Magic) was closed.
I believe these were teens who didn't have a curfew, or if they did, they were up pretty late. It was after 1:00 AM and the Stack (Magic) was closed. The Internet Cafe is open 24/7 and the kids would hang out there in the Promenade Lounge after their club closed down. At that time of night, only a few people are up and the cleaning crew is out.
I would guess that there are counselors inside of Stack and it isn't a free for all. You also have to remember that I was on a ten-day cruise. People had a little longer to bond. (Not that it means anything one way or another.)

Some thoughts on Digital photo sharing and management while on the cruise.
Wondering if we brought our card reader, or upload cord from our camera we could load our pic's (or a few anyway) onto a web server, ie: webshots or fotki? It seems as though the folks on the repo cruise are using picture cell phones and sending them to a diser back home. There is little cell coverage though out on the deep blue sea. Any thoughts on this?
Also, whoever posted about verizon coverage at the ports, thanks, we'll be adding that coverage to our service.
Have a great day,
Tami

Sorry I haven't been on board lately but the last month of school is always a nightmare with paperwork, programs, paperwork, registration for next year, paperwork, etc. - Hope you all got the message about paperwork! :earseek:
Sierra, my 7 year old granddaughter is bringing postcards and magnets from Colorado - originally we were bringing 25 but I think I'll get more as we add more families - FANTASTIC :cool1:
Can't wait to read more about the Mexican Riveria tour from the group leaving on the 28th - We're leaving Colorado on the 4th so I'll have to catch up when we get on board :Pinkbounc
Thanks to all for the great slide show of families and name tags :cheer2:
See you on the 11th at 3:15 in the Promenade Lounge :moped:

From what I've read there is no way to upload any photos or data to the onboard computers. Someone was asking about sending something for work and they said DCL said there was no way to upload it (CD, USB, etc.). It would be nice, though!
BTW, we're in Rancho Bernardo. Small world :)

Hi There,
No, I haven't gotten the password yet. I'll see if I have some pictures of us we can put on here too!
Anyone have any teens going on this cruise? My son is 13 and is looking forward to meeting some new friends!
Anyone know anything about the Holiday Inn in San Pedro? That's where we are staying before getting on the ship. They don't have a park and cruise option though. Anyone know of any hotels that do? I checked into a couple that I saw on here but a lot of the hotels are already sold out for that weekend.
Thanks!

Hi Dizneygirl,
I have a son 14.5, (15 in October). He's a great kid (if I may say so myself). At any rate, plan on coming to our dis-meet and they can "hook-up". I showed my son the on-line pictures from "The Stack", and his reply, . . ."coooooool!" It's been 3 years since we've been on the Magic and then all they had for teens was a coffee shop type hang out. He's thrilled that this has plasma screens and a dance floor. Let me know if you'd be comfortable having them instant message before we leave. Just PM me your e-mail address.
Do you all want to share cabin #'s? It would be fun if we decide to do some sort of game or such?
I'm getting excited!! :bounce: :bounce:

Thanks for the concern. I'm still here. We've just been busy with my daughter's soccer. Her team won the 12 year old premier division tonight. We played the team that was one point ahead of us in the standings. If we lost - we take second. We won 1 -0. It was very exciting. Nikki, my daughter was one of the game MVP's. The state tournement starts tomorrow. I'm sure the championship game will be a rematch of tonights game. Too much fun!!!
I told Nicole she can say "I'm going on a Dsiney Cruise" after she wins the State Cup championship. She didn't get it. :)

It seems I have most of my questions answered and am finding a lot of the postings redundant...as if I am some expert! I have never even cruised before!!
Still waiting for docs...at least with being able to view it all online now, I am not worried.
Mentally packing...which outfits for me, the kids... Got a dress back from alterations today. Not a gown, but a fun cocktail dress for formal night. Anyone else going really formal? Gown&tux?
We are staying at the Sheraton right there in San Pedro the night before...anyone else?
It has been fun to hear from the Repo cruisers. Funny how they are posting so sporatically....I suspect that sitting at a computer isn't the funnest thing one can do on the Disney Magic! Maybe after they have all been on the ship for 10 days or more, they'll spend more time filling us in! (and now that they don't have to sleep in lines overnight to get some pins!!)
I liked the idea the Repo cruisers had to have a "progressive stateroom" tour where at a designated time, our group could visit each others staterooms to see the differences. We are in a Cat. 9 (upgrade courtesy of my MIL!!)....anyone get the Walt Disney Suite??

Hi everyone, We finally got our Doc's yesterday! Question for those of you that have been on the magic in the past (This is actually our 3rd sailing on the Magic, but it's been 3 years). Is is alright for the guys to wear "nice" shorts and a short sleeved button down shirt to the regular night dinners? I seem to remember my guys (son 11 and husband) wearing nice shorts. Nice, meaning resort type . . . Tommy Bahama-ish. Any feed back??
Thanks,
Tami
P.S. Have you all seen the pic's of our beautiful ship going through the Locs of the Panama Canal? So cool . . . now that would have been an experience!
Adios,
Tami

I guess some will wear shorts, but the dress code says " no shorts at dinner " (lunch time is ok). I guess on casual nights it is ok to wear jeans now (although the time we are sailing it will be too hot for them!) My DS will be wearing his dickies for casual nights and suit for semi and formal nights. My DH most likely will wear Dockers for casual. Me....skirts or capris. I haven't been on the Magic before, so just going by the rules.
I did watch the ship going thru the canal yesterday. It was great. I callled in to work and told them I was running late so I could stay home at watch it. (didn't tell them that though, they wouldn't understand!)
