Beach for a day trip?

Hi all! I will be at WDW solo for 6 days in July for a meeting, then my family will fly down to join me for another week. I am so excited - haven't been there for such a long visit in years!!
I would like to know of a great beach for a day trip - preferably on the Gulf. Calm water and not too crowded if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I've heard Clearwater is really nice. I don't remember if this is where I went or not (too many eons ago!!). I do remember that it wasn't too far from Tarpon Springs.

Orlando is in the center of Florida - so any trip to the beach - Gulf side or Ocean side is a long drive - 90 to 120 minutes - that could be a 4 hour trip there and back....

how about on your last day - driving there and staying at a local hotel....

otherwise go visit the beach at the BC/YC or Polyn or GF or CBR
