I had nice garden soil delivered for this butterfly garden I am working on. There is actually more dirt then I really need. My thoughts were that I might get one of those large trash cans with wheels and make a potting soil mixture for future containers. What would you suggest as your favorite mix?

From the Flower & Garden Festival:
- A light soil mix is much preferred to a typical potting soil mix.
- A light soil mix is one that contains a majority of peat with other amendments added to provide adequate air space and water retention in a proper balance.
I tend to use (approximately): 2 parts soil, 2 parts peat, 1 part vermiculite and 1 part perlite. Then I may add additional Soil Moist as directed for the amount of potting mix, especially in my window boxes. For plant food I've switched to Osmocote.
