I am trying to be as frugal as possible and so I'm planning on renting the smallest car I can.
I'll be travelling with 4 average sized teenagers and I was wondering if we could all fit into a compact car? I thought the kids could put whatever luggage didn't fit in the trunk on their laps.
Am I insane to think of this? I know the ride would be cramped but I mostly wonder if we really could fit.
Has anyone attempted this? Will we look like circus clowns when we pile out of a tiny car?

I would think at least a 'so-called' full size car.

You need at least an intermediate and more likely a full size. There is NOT room in the average rental economy for 5 people. (Rental car companies tend to think smaller then you or I when they size the cars.) I just can't see 3 average size teenagers fitting in the backseat with luggage!

We're hoping to get an Impala (full size) for us five and all our luggage.

Thanks for all the replies.
I guess the compact car will be too small and we'll have to get at least an intermediate or full size rental.
Oh well, it was worth a shot.
