Hubby just called from work and told me that Disney is asking for volunteers to lay off (salaried employees only-including accounts and imaganiation techs.)
This has me worried. Orlando (and surrounding counties)economy relies heavily on Disney. I also wonder how is this going to affect vacationers. :(

I just read the USA Today article in the paper and it says that the they are going to ask for 4000 volunteers to take a severence package and then they will make further cuts. That is a corporate thing. The theme parks and amusements owned by Disney are doing great and Michael Eisner knows how they got where they are. I wouldn't expect there to be any changes at WDW or Disneyland as far staff reductions go. For more information check out Disney's Corporate news on Disney.com

To go with my previous comments. Disney has over 120,000 employee worldwide. To cut 4000 is not that significant. It is about 3% of the workforce. It will do wonders for Disney's cash position. Millions I hope. The stock price could use a boost but I don't think that it will move much in the positive direction in the coming months.

Our local news made it sound like the lay-offs were at Disney World. Did the article specify were the lay-offs were?

WDW will indeed lay off 1400 employees for the summer season.

How sad for those people. I hope they can find another job and soon. I think that 1400 jobs doesn't sound like alot unless it is your job that is gone. Hope that it doesn't affect anyones vacation but I am sure that it will effect those Disney Employees. I hope they can do something to keep up morale (sp)
