Resort Packge vs. Hotel Ressie + Park Hopper

I've been trying to get a good price for a package deal on a 3 or 4 night package. So far, they appear much more expensive than I have seen others on posts getting. Is it cheaper to make reservation and get tickets separately? Or are packages the better way to go?

2 Adults, 3 Kids in June
Poly, Lagoon View was $3127.00 4 nights
Contemp, Std, was $2,049.oo for 3 nights

First if you haven't already join the Disney club. I know there are a lot of pros and cons...but with a DC we saved a lot of money. For example
4 day park hopper regular Adult $203.52 DC membership $196.10 Childe regular $161.12 child membership. $156.88

You can get discounts at most of the hotels though they say the Budget hotels are not included (but sometimes they do have discounts.) You need to call and Identify yourself as a DC member. Keep asking if there are any other discounts, deals, promotions for your state, specials, and any other word you can find in your Theasarus (sp) to mean the same thing. If you don't get a good deal, or you aren't sure about it don't book it. But do ask to hold it and ask for a confirmation. They then send you a letter and you have usually 14 days to book it.

Be flexible on your dates. We moved our vacation start day one day and was able to get a discount because the season changed. (we then called back a few weeks later and added saturday on and got the same rate as for the rest of the week)and we weren't even trying to buck the system, they just extended our rate back a day.

Unless you know that youare going to use the "extras" that come with the packages, they usually are not worth it, unless of course you like to have someone else do planning for ou. It is all a matter of taste.

We have never found a package that was cheaper than the ala carte way.
We also have DC and with the discounst there or say AAA and calling CRO to check ratses we have saved much $$$$
