My husband and I leave tomorrow morning for a week cruise to Bermuda. And I guess I am just posting to get my fears out. I am actually afraid of gaining a lot of weight. Does that sound strange to anyone? It has taken me a year to lose nearly 60 pounds, and I just do not want to go backwards.

I am really worried about all the food, all those buffets, I know it is not unusual to gain weight on a cruise, but I want to keep it to a minimum. I would like to not gain at all as I am 1 pound away from getting my next clippie. My current exercise program is walking, and I want to walk alot even while on the ship and I plan on finding the fitness center right away.....but can you really keep on track????

You have taken a year to lose your weight - try to choose foods that are on your plan - but you are on vacation and a few treats/splurges will not cause all the weight to come back. I have read many post about folks retuning from vacation and if they gained a few pounds they usually shed them quickly upon retuning home and back to their normal routine.

My DH and DD9 returned may 31st from 4nights 5 days at WDW - DH is doing Atkins as am I. By the readings of his pedometer he averaged 9miles a day! Yet the scale showed a 5lb gain? Well this morning he reported he is 7lbs lighter then he was Monday night.

So don't worry go have a GREAT TIME try to choose wisely but don't stress about it so much you don't have a good time

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!! ENJOY!!!!:D

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just try to make sensible choices, but also allow yourself some treats. After all it's your vacation. If you do put a few pounds on they will come right back off when you get home and get back OP.

I hope that you have a great time on your cruise! :sunny:

First of all I think you'll be satisfied with a lot less food than normal buffet eaters b/c you're used to eating less, and some foods just won't taste good enough to splurge on. I've found that I'm a LOT more particular about my "cheats" than I used to be. Sometimes a dessert just isn't good enough to be worth cheating with. Yesterday I had one bite of a cookie and thought it tasted gross. 6 months ago I would have eaten the whole thing without really tasting it.

Good luck. With awareness, you should do just fine.

PS. Drink LOTS of water, and have a great time!

Here's a suggestion I used on my cruise. If you want to taste something, go ahead and try it. You don't have to eat the whole thing. Our servers kept asking me if I liked my meals. I did, but I just didn't want to eat it all. Pay attention to when you are full, don't eat just because it is there.

Another think to remember, a lot of what you will gain may be water weight. When I got back, I lost all of what I gained within the first week.

Drink lots of water, try to exercise, have a good time!

helen, I know what you mean. I have been concerned about eating to, but I am going to try to make good food choices while we are there. Have fun on your trip. If you gain anything, you can always come back to the induction part of SBD (as he mentions in the book) and it will be gone. Have a great trip

Woohoo. Have fun!

If you find that fitness room and use it you will do good I'm sure with whatever you eat. Just remember to stop when you are full. Drink a glass or two of water before even getting your food will help you feel fuller. Then try to stay on plan but not worry if you want a treat. :) It is after all vacation.

Thank you for all your input, it really is scary after being over-weight for so long, once you lose the weight there is always that fear in the back of your mind that you are going to gain it back.
I am excited about our cruise, my husband is self employed and really do not take vacations together, so I know we will have alot of fun.
Thanks again for all the encouragement, and I'll be weighing in when we get back!

Make the best choices you can but don't obsess over this. Wishing you good luck and a wonderful cruise!
