I just read a news story on Reuters that Children's Place is in talks to purchase the Disney Stores. I've only been able to find one story so far & thought someone else may have some additional info. According to the story, it looks like if the deal goes through, Children's Place intends to keep the stores running. I'll cross my fingers & hope this is a good thing.

First, for anyone who wants to see the Reuters story, here's the link: http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=businessNews&storyID=5335636

Here's the press release from The Children's Place: http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20040603005257&newsLang=en

If you want more articles, go to http://news.google.com/ and so a news search for "Disney Store" -- but, until there's more news, chances are you'll read the same thing over and over (the Reuters article, the press release, or other article based on the press release).

My take:

This is a great thing for the kids merchandise and a not so good thing for the limited adult stuff that they carried. I guess though that I stopped shopping TDS for adult stuff a long time ago and now that dd is "too cool" for princess stuff, the only one I have left to shop for is ds.

Also check out www.savedisney.com (Roy's site). There is info on the sale there too.
I just got back from my local DS and the SM confirmed the fact that the Children's Place had made an offer.

Man that stinks IMO since The children's place clothes are made really poorly. DS' clothes fell apart alot when little no biggie since he outgrew them so fast but now at almost 4 I would not shop there anymore. I hope their quality control is better for TDS then for their own operations.

I agree about the quality (non existant) of the children's place clothes.

Sounds like a good move for their failing stores! Seems that the online merchandise is getting better with selection and items continue to grow in number!
A person that I know from the parks has heard the rumor that the two cruise ships may be next (to sell) due to a slow market?
Anyone else hear this rumor?

I highly doubt that about the Disney Cruise Line, as they are looking to build a third ship if the California 50th Anniversary Cruises go well.

I think as long as the new buyer can get a contract that DOES NOT let Disney control too much, it will be a better thing for the Disney Stores. Too much control by Disney might kill of the stores later. "That which does not kill you, makes you stronger."

Not enough control over the disneystores could be a worse disaster. CP does not manufacture kids clothes in the same quality of TDS. Right away, that could be a problem. Anything done in these stores will relect back to the parent company.
