Buzz Lightyear birthday party ideas--ways to save $$$

I am planning my sons 5th birthday party. He wants a Buzz party in the worst way! The only place I can find Buzz stuff is on the net. I nees some cheap ideas. This will be his first birthday party with his little friends. Any ideas would be great!!

In the new issue of Disney Magazine, there's a tidbit about a mom who made her 4 yr old a Buzz Lightyear cake. It looks incredible!! So, making your own cake would be a way to save money.

I can't find Woody party supplies anywhere! My son is going to be 3 in 2 weeks and all he talks about is a Woody party.

A great party favor to make is to buy bubbles, peel off the label and replace with your party theme stickers. I have seen Buzz stickers at Hallmark. Also to make my party more affordable, I buy solid color plates to mix with the printed plates and napkins in party theme colors.

You can also do a search on ebay for toy story party or buzz party and compare prices.

If you have a Sam's club nearby, check out their cake prices! I think and 1/2 sheet which is huge is about $15.00. You can PRE-ORDER and see if they can do a deep blue and lime green boarder or even custom order a frosting color. Then you can get some of the miniature toys (The DS may have a set of buzz/zurg/green men; we got this set last year at MK.) and put them on the cake your self. It has been a while since I ordered a cake from Sam's but I think they put "Happy Birthday XXXXXX" but make sure they leave room for your do-dads. We did a buzz party last year for my 3yo and I either got it at Walmart or Winn Dixie and they had a buzz kit (But it was about $30 for a 1/4 sheet!)

DS had Buzz bubble blower things for $3.00 and little radios for $2.50, might be cute party favors!

You don't have to buy specifically Buzz (or Woody) stuff. Buy the right color paper plates. Buy a plain white paper tablecloth. Print pictures of Buzz (or Woody) from the net and use them to decorate the tablecloth. Use a Buzz doll (if you have one) as a centerpiece or make a rocket ship out of cardboard. A rocketship cake would be easier than Buzz (for Woody, a round cake with a sherrif's star wouldn't be hard).

Print more pictures from the internet and use them to make a banner or mobile or something to hang from the ceiling. Add a few correct colored balloons (you may not need them once you get done hanging Buzz and rocketships from the ceiling) and voila - a party (or as much as five year olds care about).

For games - for my five year old son's I discovered two games worked pretty well (they didn't sit for much more than that). Since its warm, take them outside. Make a big poster of Zurg and give them squirt guns. Have them "blast" Zurg. Also a obsticle course would be a cute "Buzz" theme. Woody can go on a rescue mission to save the "critters" Have them follow a map as fast as they can (around the house, across the pond (your kiddie pool with some step stools in it), save a stuffed animal and return up and over the slide.

Favors don't have to be much (the other mom's will appreciate it). Buzz fruit snacks and some candy in a bag.

make invitations on your computer instead of buying the more expensive themed ones. you can buy nice paper at a party store or office supply store. see if you can get a buzz picture from the disney website to put on your invitation. We we going to chuckee cheese (who have invitations that are really ugly). I went to their website, found a picture and did a right click, save target as. you may be able to find a buzz picture this way.

If you have a Bj's Wholesale Club, their sheets that are 25 servings I believe are only $13.99 and they have themed ones (Buzz Included) for this price. Like the the ones at Publix that cost 30+

Of course, a cake mix is $2.00. A can of frosting another $2.00. Plus and egg and some oil.

(And its even cheaper if you start from scratch - as long as you are going to bake regularly. $10 worth of groceries will bake a dozen cakes).

You'll need food coloring, and a cheap pastry tube. But simple cake decorating isn't hard, can be kind of fun, and will save a ton over the years.

Also check out www.birthdaypartyideas.com and do a search on Buzz Lightyear or space themed parties. I also agree with using Buzz type colors rather than all Disney-Buzz themed papergoods and toys...right now I am picturing his spacesuit and those lime, white and purple colors would look awesome as decor.

I am having a Lilo and Stitch luau for my daughter this weekend and our approach is: what kind of a party would LILO hold? That means Hawaiian style but nothing (other than the invitation) with her likeness or Stitch's on it.

I love the idea about giving the kids Buzz fruit snacks as a take home gift. I also found Buzz ice cream bars. Now how can I put those in the take home bags in the middle of July? :p
