I'm just about to book a week in a gite with Brittany Ferries and wonder whethere there are any discounts with places like Virgin Travelstore / AirMiles / etc. , rather than paying full price with BF.
I haven't been able to track any down by checking the web sites, but thought I'd ask here :)
Hi Hilary....you might get a better response to your question if you post on the travel forum here (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi)

Hi Hilary - well we've just got back early this morning from a week in Normandy with Brittany Ferries, ferry and cottage booked through them.
We went with our friends who were on a pretty strict budget and I was totally horrified at the cost of the ferry tickets:eek:
However, booking our cottage with BF made the tickets cheaper.
I know a lot of English owned-cottages over there have a discount code they can use with most of the ferry companies.
When we were looking back in January, the most expensive ones were those who advertised "discount ferry tickets". Whilst I realise ours was more expensive due to going over May half-term, our friends usually go mid-week out of school hols and have found it much cheaper then . . . something to consider, if you can.
Where abouts are you going? We stayed 5km outside of Granville in Normandy. It's a lovely area. Brilliant time had by all, especially due to all the D-Day anniversary stuff (didn't plan on doing any, but once we'd done the Bayeaux War Musee, we were all hooked, and that included 2 x 11 year olds).

The ferry fares were a bit of an eye-opener for me too, Annie - that's why I was trying to find a discount somehow!
In fact we've now booked our week (full BF price  ) so I'm just trying to forget the fact that the return ferry trip (total of about 14 hours) is costing twice as much as the whole week in the gite!
We've chosen Brittany because we went there a couple of times in our (very much ;) ) younger days and liked the countryside, so plan on inflicting all the "...when we were here in 1976..." conversations on DDs! :teeth:
I did look into the possibility of booking accommodation and ferries separately but, as you pointed out, the ferry prices without accommodation were just stupid
