DH was there. The torches were lit. But no fire on the water.
And security mixing in with the crowds.
First time he has ever seen (or not seen) either.
Odd...

Uniform security?
Was there any announcement made about the missing features of the show? It seems strange.

The inferno barge is a safety intensive piece. If there is any sign of a possible problem it will be cut from the show. No announcements are made because it detracts from the show, and if you have never seen the show before you wouldn't know something was missing.

None again tonight (fire).
The torches AROUND the lake were working.
The flames from the barges and the globe were absent again tonight.
We were in front of Japan and did not notice any security people tonight.
I asked DH about the security from last night. He said they were moving around in the boats in the lake last night DURING the show.
The globe was not put in place tonight by the American Adventure until after 7:30, almost 8:00.

OnWithTheShow,
Are you a cast member? I would assume by your pic.
Just wanted to let you know, I always enjoy your "inside information". Keep up the good work.

Luv2Roam, that's odd. I must admit, it would have been interesting to me to see, just to see something different. And I'm glad I didn't have an Illuminations Cruise that night. We had one on the 27th, and I'm glad we got to see the whole show-I think we could feel the fire from the globe. Hope you'll post if you hear anything about why that happened (or maybe I should say-DIDN't happen).

Woah, havn't posted here in a while... anyway...
No, those people in boats WERN'T securtiy, but actually Illuminations personel. Times when there is a problem, you can see them going around on boats checking things.

No doubt about it ... we COULD feel the heat from the fire. I was on the same Illuminatation boat - what a view of the show!

Adding one more data point - there was fire on the 28th.

I saw a performance back in May of last year that had no fire. I didn't even miss it at the time. After the show I was talking to my friend and he said that he thought something was different. It was only then that we realized that the fire was missing. I'm sure if you were seeing Illuminations for the first time you would never know that something was missing. Better not to announce that part of the show is missing.

I'm curious if high wind conditions stop them from having the fire ? At some of the closer viewing locations, the burst of heat is fairly intense.I'm wondering if a strong wind directed towards one of the closer viewing areas may be a little too intense ?

We have been there before on a windy night when the grass on one side of the lagoon actually caught on fire. It wouldn't surprise me at all if when certain weather conditions were present they didn't use the fire.

The inferno barge is not as dependant on wind as is the rounds that are launched from around the promenade. Those are typically cut in high wind situations. The air launched shell that opens the show is also cut in high wind. I can almost always find a piece of shell around the promenade after the show. I have quite a collection now. Twice I have seen the islands catch fire and have to be extinguished by the safety crew. Only once did I see a peice of a shell fly into the crowd.

The fire was back tonight. :)
Very ominious clouds going over WDW tonight.
We leave out the back of MK. As we were driving to MK, the roads were dry. Beside and behind the MK there were large puddles from rain. Talk about scattered showers! ;)

It also happens a lot where Typhoon will close due to weather and Blizzard will still be open, or the other way around.

Those are the sorts of things that give meteorologists a bad rap. The old "they said it was gonna rain and it didn't" (but it did about a mile away). I'm not a meteorologist, but did work with a group of them some years back as a supporting software engineer, and gained some measure of sympathy for their plight. :)
