View Full Version : Whats wrong with her?

Hey, I just wanted to know why everbody hates on Britney... Is it because she's 'fake' (which is not true) or because of Justin? I personally have no problem with her and Justin, eps. for being an Nsync fan (a huge one at that) because I know that I have no chance whatsoever at him. Does anyone else like her? Everyone I ask hates her.. I feel alone!

Sorry, I can't help, but I don't like her either for several reasons. First of all, I don't like pop music, considering it means pretty much nothing to the majority of the artists who sing it, since they didn't write it. (I'm not saying all....I'm saying most) Also, she's marketing herself to little kids (I don't care what she says, she is) and she's doing things that are completely inappropriate for children (ex: stripper pole at her concerts). As for the Justin thing, yea some girls probably are jealous of her b/c of that, but as for me, no. I don't even think he's cute.....but that's just me :D

I used to like her, but she's turned into such a slut, so that's why I don't like her anymore. I never saw the Nickelodeon awards show, but I saw somewhere what she wore to that nickelodeon (kids) show and it was this short, tight, white see through shirt. That's disgusting that she wore something like that to a kid's award show, and I heard that Nickelodeon was mad at her for that!
And about her dating Justin, I could care less because I don't like either of them.

I totally agree with all of ya!!!! She used to be the "girl next door" now she's completely different! I heard she's gonna get the "girl next door" look back, but I don't think that'll ever happen again. Too many people now don't think too highly of her because of how she looks, and I don't think that'll change how people see her. I admit though, I used to like her too!

Oh, God...
Personally, I can't stand her music either, and I am trying not to let myself get annoyed when I see people try to emulate Britney. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why, but the Justin thing doesn't bother me (i think my girlfriend is hotter than Britney anyway)...
Yea, the whole image change phenomenon can be attributed to a buncha things like insecurity, or a desperate need for attention (when I think about it, as nauseating as it may seem, I can't really blame her)...and d'ya think Britney is enjoying it? She better be. Plus, there's always that she grew up in the spotlight, and to some people, her...um...self-guided moral (or at least tactful) pieces were rearranged partly because of that. I don't know, that's just what's on the top of my head right now. But if Britney Spears had a voice like Whitney Houston and Ani DiFranco's talent, then I'd be at her shows faster than Aretha Franklin's metabolism.

ok...I have liked her...espically her first album...it was a good one...ok when I stopped liking her it was when she went on the MTV video awards and stripped down and you could see all thru it...thats just wrong....and I from then I didnt respect her...ok I have gained back a little respect(at least shes a virgin...unlike Christina Aguilera....now shes the real slut) also how u markets toward little girls...I have seen too many little girls dressing to flashy(short, short shorts, tube tops)its too early to get into that....its really becoming a loss of innosense....that is beginning to come early and early..shes just not a good role model.
and Justin has nothin gto do it...I have liked Nsync...ive been a fan for a few years....and I have never found him hott...maybe cute but with his hair off I do not think he is cute at all....his hair was like his trademark.
and I read that on her next album shes trying to go back to the girl next door...i think that she could go back to it..but she will be remembered for the MTV video awards...just how J.Lo is remembered for her Grammy dress....those type of things dont leave you.

Personally, I don't like her either. She is quite a fake and materialistic role model for children. It makes children think that everybody has to have perfect looks etc. and they don't.
Some of her music is ok, but she gives the impression that she is a bit too proud of herself. Other than that she just really really gets on my nerves.

I really don't like Britney Spears as a person, but i do have her cds and I like her music. I agree w/ everyone about how her image has changed, and now she is pretty much marketed to teenage guys. And these little 5 year old kids are trying to be just like her! I mean, I know of 5 year old girls who have all of her dance steps memorized- that's kinda sad. I really don't care if she's going out w/ Justin Timberlake- it's their life, and I'm pretty sure no *Nsync fan would have a chance w/ him anyways. i guess I don't really hate her, but I do think she's a bad role model.
JuviRex11

For everyone who's complaining about how kids are going to try to modelize Britney. If a parent lets her 10-year-old walk out of the house dressed like Britney, then the kid has more problems than just dressing like Britney.

Have any of you ever heard of freedom of speech? She's doing what she wants to do and wearing what she wants, she might not even want to BE a role model, so get off her friggin back!
KittieKat
07-05-2001, 11:38 AM
yeah but even she doesn't want to be a role model, she's in the public eye and doesn't really have a choice. She's showing little girls they can dress like sluts. I baby-sit this little 5 year old girl. She absolutely loves Britney Spears, she went to one of her concerts and asked her mom if she could buy a britney spears t-shirt and roll it up so it would expose her stomach, to resemble her idol. britney spears.
nsyncraider17
07-05-2001, 01:09 PM

wait a second. i dont think she is being herself. herself is how she was on her first CD. then when she realized that everyone liked her music she decided why not make everyone like her body , tooso that even if she didnt have good music, people would still go to her concerts just to see her etc. Kittie Kat is also right... even if she doesnt WANT to be a role model she has to realize that she is. and she's teaching little girls to be little sluts!! think about if it was your kid, would you want them following along with whatever britney did? didn't think so.

If you must know. I disagree with all of the "pop princess" that dress like they can't afford a full outfit. And I have a littlel cousin who is six that wants to be just like Brittney Sprear. She wants to dress just like her and everything. When you are a in a spot to be a role modle to hundreds of little girls you should have to heart not to be trashy about it.

How do you know who "herself" really is? 'Scuse the grammar, but seriously. I mean it's obvious that someone's bound to disagree with the implications of their five-year old wanting to expose her belly, but I bet in five to ten years, that'll become more mainstream. Just like girls exposing their...well...any skin whatsoever. Just look at the way people dressed in eras past. Social mores change, and with them people will want to cast a blind eye to societal (or personal) standards of decency or what is appropriate, but the only thing that brings any kind of change, positive or negative, is freedom. So even if in ten years we won't have half-naked five year olds running around, major sociopolitical and cultural ideals will have evolved to a state where a late 90's-early O's britney spears will be considered alright compared to the latest subversions of prefab pop music.

Ok, I got it. You girls are just jealous cause Britney looks better than all of you, and gets a lot more attention than all of you! And yes, I like her personality as well as her looks. I like her music but personally I do not agree with her choice of clothing or lack thereof. She is free to express herself in whatever manner it is that she feels to be appropriate, as are all people. It is really sad, though, that people judge others on how they dress and who they go out with.
TheRhyno_dxx5

There ya go! People judge her 24/7 on they way she dresses and that's it. They don't think of the way she feels when they put her down, they don't think that she might be really cool and not be a total *****.

To answer the Would you let your 5 year old......and so on. No I wouldn't let my 5-year-old dress like Britney Spears. But also, I wouldn't let my 5-year-old watch Britney Spears on MTV(Their motto: If you squint, it's soft-core porn!). And MTV is about the only place where 5 year olds have exposure to Britney.
It all boils down to parental responsibility, and if I had a 5-year-old she would not be watching Britney Spears period. The media can not be forced to babysit a young child, along with entertaining the more adult tastes of teenagers and adults. The media has done an excellent job in providing entertainment for children, with nickelodeon and cartoon network, and if a child is watching MTV for Britney, then the child needs to be supervised better, because if she's watching MTV for Britney, she's also going to catch alot worse material.
Guys like the way she looks, think about it guys do u like her personality or her body?
Yes, I like her for her personality, because I have had many in-depth conversations with her and I enjoy her political views on NAFTA and the Alaskan Oil Reserves. Obviously I like her for her body. But lets not get hypocritical here. Every few posts I read something about how the Nsync guys or O-Town guys are so hot. Is this a physical attraction or because of their personalities? And if you say that it is because you read in some magazine about how nice they are, thats nothing but the media pushing out the image that will help the bands sell more music. NEXT!
Because she is in the spotlight, she has to act like she is Mother Theresa? Yeah, she isn't a good role model, but at least she isn't faking it and trying to be a good role model. Look at all the people in the public eye, and tell me if they're better or worse than Britney. Most will be seen as worse. But because Britney is a teenage girl who sings pop music, she immediately becomes a role model for the little girls around the globe. And she can't act like a normal 19 year old because of this. I want you to go to a college campus party where there are attractive 19 year old girls, and tell me if you'd like any of them to be a role model. Little girls should not be emulating the every step of teenage and early-twenties girls. Heck, they're half the reason I'm going to college.

I agree with juvirex...its the parents fault...can some be blamed on britney?? yeah but mostly parents.
but as girls...we cant get mad at juvirex or rhyno for liking her for her looks...i mean they dont know her so thats all you can do ya know...like i think lance bass from nsync is hott...oh ok...i dont know him so its based on looks so dont get all defensive...but i think someone needs to calm down when they say we are jealous b/c she looks better than us...excuse me...u dont know what any of us look like so u can judge us..ya know? but like Im very skinny and i have had guys think I was hott or whatever but i mean britney...she can be her...she has tons of stress and i dont think I could handle being considered a sex symbol...yeah know...that would make me madder than anything..ppl liking me for the way I look over my music or whatever.
nsyncfan...dont leave....we are just stating our opinions.
Do I think britney needs to clean up a bit? yeah...has she...yeah...the whole stripping thing was wrong..i dont care who u r...but she is better and I think if she cleans up more..more ppl will respect her.
christina-omg....shes the real slutty one...she has gotten worse and worse...she is worse than britney will ever be...put some clothes on and stop telling ppl about ur love life...i dont really need to know how ur not a virgin and what not. not thats a bad person.
britney..i dont love her...i dont hate her..shes ok..will i buy her next album..yeah.

No one should be judged by the clothes they wear, but I think that people in the media spotlight have certain responsibilities. Especially celebrities who target their image at young children. I'm not saying that Britney is a bad person. I can't make those kinds of judgements because I don't even know her. But I do think that she has a responsibility to convey a better image to her young fans e.g. by wearing more clothes............................
Young children are extremely impressionable and need to be taught good morals from an early age. Therefore, they need a responsible role model. Britney deserves every success in her career, just like everyone else, but I do think that she really needs to think about the message she is giving out to young kids and how it is affecting them.

first of all, let me get this out:
1.i don't like *n sync so i didnt say anything about them. but i do like their personalities. they care about their fans etc.
2.what do you mean we can't know all about O-Town??? I, for one, have watched AND taped everyshow of Making the Band. And you don't have to be that obsessed to still know quite a lot about them. EvenAnd not all of them are hott; that's not why I like them. I like them because I've seen them in all sorts of situations, and I've seen how they handle it. I've also seen/heard their views on everything from music to just the world and I agree with most of them and that's why i like them.
okay, second of all, britney cannot only be seen on MTV. my little brother is watching Blue's Clues right now. Do you know what channel that is on? Nickelodeon. And not just Nickelodeon, but Nick Jr.. and do you know who was just on a commercial? yup you guessed it. and she was on that Kidz Bop thing; "these are the songs kids listen to these days." and they play that commercial quite a lot, so don't say she's not where kids can see her. she's in the middle of Blue's Clues, how bad can you get? do you expect kids to turn off the TV until the commercial is over? I don't.
*~:bounce:~*morgan*~:bounce:~*
p.s. dont anybody dare say britney looks better than us other girls because how would you know, you've never seen us. and i know quite a lot of girls that have her talent, not just in singing, but in dancing, and one girl that i really stands out in my mind is a girl named allison at my school. she sings, she dances, she is in champer singing and the highest level of dancing you can get to in my school. plus she maintains a straight A average, and she dresses with clothes that actually cover her but are still stylish and she doesn't follow the crowd. and guess what, she used to eant to grow up to be like britney spears, but now she realizes that that's just not right anymore.things change; brintey has, and people's opinions on her definitley have.
nsyncraider17
07-06-2001, 10:15 AM
If you think Britney Spears is only seen on MTV, then that must be the only channel you watch. What about the pepsi commercials? And she has a milk ad that is in many kids magazines. She even had a concert on the Disney Channel. And some kids don't even see her on tv at all, but they still try to be like her. Example: my aunt used to babysit a bunch of little kids. A few 6 year old girls came one day and started talking about Britney Spears and how they were going to her concert and how she dances and stuff. Before long, my 5 year old cousin who had probably never seen MTV was dancing like britney spears.
Maybe I am just jealous. I'm not ashamed to admit that I wish I had a body that looked a little more like hers. And i don't have a problem w/ someone showing their stomach. But her motto seems to be "If you've got it, flaunt it." What kind of message is that sending to little kids? And it's not just the clothes, it's the attitude. Look at her latest music video. I mean, she seems like a nice person, she says she has good morals, she claims to be a virgin, but if you didn't know that, what would you think when you saw that video?
JuviRex11
07-06-2001, 11:18 AM
One of my strong points is that I can admit when I'm wrong, and I guess you do have a point about how she is marketed to kids. And that is wrong, but I thought about Britney, and how bad she really is. Other than the striptease, which was tastefully done, she actually does not do that bad of stuff. Her videos are pretty tame, as their intent is to tease the 14 year old boys who tune in religiously just to see her. I haven't seen her latest video, so I won't comment. Compare her videos now to Madonna's videos in the '80s and especially the early '90s, there is no comparison.
Britney is not THAT bad, and its not like she's discussing frank themes within her music. Yes, she dances somwhat sexy and wears tight revealing outfits, which usually reveal her stomach. Girls have been showing off their stomachs for years, it's not some new thing. Also, girls have been wearing tight clothes for a LONG time, especially girls who are in music.
And O-Town? Yes, I'm sure they were being completely genuine in that show, and showing every side of their personality, and not acting up for the cameras, which were following them everywhere. The point of the show was to project a positive image of the band so they'd sell records.
KittieKat

Hey ok I know this subject is getting old.....but I actually like Britney Spears..I have both of her cd's plus the single w/ Autumn Goodbye on it & the cd that she shared with *nsync...I have to admit that I was kind of upset that I payed all that money for good seats at her concert in Hershey, PA last year (I mean like we're talking 5th row) & she Lip-synced! Thats what I was most disapointed about...But other that that I think she really cool...yeah my friends make fun of me for listening to a "*****" but I mean If you got it...why not flaunt it?
