View Full Version : Has anyone done Naples/Marco Island on their 2nd leg of trip
If so how did you find it, shopping, restaurants etc. Getting a bit concerned now that its going to be way upmarket, ie Dinky as opposed to one income and three kids and wife to support.

We stayed on Marco Island in 1998, I wouldnt have said it was particularly up market. We had a villa on a waterway in the middle of a housing estate. The restaurants we found were ok but nothing to write home about, the beach was lovely other than that and the shops there wasnt a lot to do. Our kids were very young when we went, maybe they would enjoy it more now.It seemed geared up to the snowbirds when we went (February).

We stayed in Naples and visited Marco (briefly) last month on the first leg of our Florida trip.
Personally, we didn't find them 'our kind of places', but only because we prefer smaller, less cosmopolitan places when we're outside of Orlando. Although we probably won't return there, it's more because we'd like to see other places than because we hated it in Naples - we didn't hate it, just weren't particularly keen on it compared to some other venues.
They were more upscale than other places we've visited on the Gulf Coast (Port Charlotte, Cape Coral and Crystal River), and the shops generally reflected that. We stayed for 5 nights in Naples and found plenty to do without having to go in the shops we couldn't afford!
I've recently posted some trip reports about that part of our holiday, so have a look on the UK TR board if you're interested in reading more. :)

we stayed in a Best Western in Naples in 2000 and had a great time. I can't remember it's exact location but it was on the main drag into Naples opposite a shopping mall.
We got a good room rate with a coupon (just did a walk in booking) and stayed for 4 nights.
Our kids were 3 and 2 at the time so all we did was play by the pool and go to the beach.
The mall was a regular one - didn't seem expensive to me and we ate in places like Ruby Tuesdays and some rib place that all the locals used.
I didn't find it upscale at all
