I have been checking weekly to see if my rates have gone down. I didn't think they would get any lower, but low and behold, they have dropped again. I have a full-sized car reserved for 2 weeks and total cost with all taxes is now at $259.93. This is down from 288.79 from about a week and a half ago. I used the priceless code and an entertainment $20 off coupon.

What is the priceless code?

BWVPam

6600330 - it takes off one of those taxes that they normally charge you. I believe it is a travel agency - Priceless Vacations

Thanks BWVPAM, I just cancelled my old reservation and made a new one for 129.00 for seven days. My former reservation was for 145.00.

I used my Entertainment book.;)

Do they ask for the ent book coupon? This is the only reason I would buy this book and by the time I have it shipped to Canada, the coupon is not worth it.

They have always asked for every and any coupon I've ever used.

Glad to hear the OP's rates are dropping. This happened to me also when my late April trip got closer. I'm now waiting for the rates to start dropping for my mid-July trip. Fingers crossed!

Yep, just like at the grocery store, if you want to use the coupon, you have to have it.

Is the rental agency going to ask me for a coupon or something for this too?

PS....
Just tried out the priceless code and a Ent. book code for $20 off. For two weeks (Aug-Sept) National quoted me around $869.00

The rates are dropping as I get closer to my actual rental date. When I first reserved a car for my 5 days in June, it was something like $190. The rates have been steadily dropping as it gets closer to June - $140 in April, $115 in early May, and now it is down to $78! I would give it some time and try again.

My travel dates are for June as well. I first booked a reservation in September of last year and the price was over $400 for two weeks. It is now down to $259

Thanks,

Pam

National's website now tells me the priceless code is invalid.

I'm very discouraged about the rental car costs now.

Has anyone used Hotwire to rent a car? Their rates were just over $300.

Sandy feet, you trip is too far away to get a good fare yet. I had a rate for my late April trip that was $299 for 11 days, then four weeks before my departure it started dropping. It dropped 5-6 times and when I left my rate was $214 for 11 days, all taxes and fees included.

I'm now in the waiting game for my mid-July trip and my mid-October trip.

For July I have $274 for 10 days and for October I have $330 for 12 days. I'm hoping the trends continue and the fare will once again start dropping as my dates get close.

I'm using the carlson code and $20 entertainment coupon to get these rates for intermediate emerald aisle.

I find you have to have patience in the money saving game, but these boards sure help. Watch both the transportation and budget boards for signs that the rates are dropping. I'm watching now as folks are presently posting that their June rates are dropping.

You don't use the Priceless code with the Entertainment book. The Entertainment book coupon has a coupon and contract ID number on it and you should use both of those codes. I'm not sure what size car or dates you were trying for, but I just put in a rate quote request for an intermediate for two weeks, Aug. 28 - Sept 11 using the $20 off coupon from ET and I got $335.11 after all the extra fees were added.
Even if you reserve today, check back each time the price is decreased and change your reservation to the new lower price. That's what I've been doing as the rates have gone down.

Ok...will clear cookies etc and try again. Good idea about reserving and changing if the price lowers.

Could I do that with the airline tx too, do you think? They've just gone up AGAIN after going down for a while.

With National you can combine coupons and contract codes. They do not have to match.
I used the priceless code and the entertainment coupon, as many have here, and had no problems and have NEVER had a problem combining them. www.mousesavers.com has an entire section devoted to telling you how to do this.

PM me your dates and I will see what I come up with.

depends on the airline. You can do it with SWA and not pay a penalty for changes. I believe that is the only one that allows that kind of change.

bad for an intermediate car, until i read this post!! .
I sure hope my rates come down too

This board has really been a help to me this trip...wish I had known about it before. I have probably saved about $500 just on airfare and car rental with the info I've gotten from this board. Not sure what your type of computer had to do with it, but, while that holds true to most rental companies, National is the exception.
Keep reading, and look forward to your next trip. :)

I am looking at a full size car for 10 days in September. When I use code 6600330 (the coupon expires before then so I can't use it), it comes up as a total of $255.64 with taxes & fees.

When I use the code 5125601, it comes up as a total of $343.69.

When I try Alamo (code J1, coupon FB39, ID #803291), it comes up $236.64 with taxes & fees. The coupon is from Entertainment.

I still wish I could get lower than that....

After seeing this post I checked National again and my rate went down $4. It may seem trivial but I still made a new reservation and cancelled the old one! Thanks!

I can't get National lower than $237 for 8 days 7/3-7/11. I've used the Carson code, the two free upgrade level coupon from National (rent Intermediate rate, get full size), and the wweb code. I removed the wweb and it says the same rate. Maybe it's the dates.
I have a ressie for $208 with National that I booked, but it's using the OLD disney code, and I'm afraid that it won't be accepted when I get there, therefore I'm looking for another reservation.

Anyone have any suggestions or codes to get the price lower?:headache:

princess: We got eight days for $168.10 by using the contract code and coupon code from Entertainment book for two free upgrades from intermediate to full size (rather than mixing codes). When I checked it today, it was at the same rate or close to it. I checked your dates and I think yours is higher because you have chosen to travel during the holidays. I don't know if you will get a lower amount.

I just ran dates for Sept. for 7 days full size, used the entertainment coupon and the priceless code and came up with 150.03. I am actually going for 8 days and that rate is 178.13.

My 2 reservations haven't budged since I booked them back in January.

I'm going August 21 10:00a to August 27 4:30p and I keep getting $184.10 total for Intermediate EA.

I'm also going Oct 30 10:00a to Nov 7 10:00a and I keep getting $214.14 total for Intermediate EA.

I've been trying the Carlson code and the Priceless code and only the Carlson code works for my dates...also I use the Entertaiment $20 off coupon.

Don't know if it will come down, but I sure hope so!

Mine stays the same again - which is fine - $124 all inclusive for intermediate, Aug 25-Aug 30. Used Carson Code and Entertainment coupon.

Pricelss code always comes out about $13 more for me.

I am happy with the rate but will keep checking 1-2x a week.

National's web site is very tempermental. If you get a quote then you try again and don't get that quote try this.

Clear your cookies in your browser. That should help.

I use contract id 5760339 (Carlson Wagonlit Travel) and I get some very good rates. 160 right now for a intermediate in August. I hope to see the rates come down as the date gets closer!

How far in advance do you normally book car rentals (6 months or longer)?

Can you look for codes or see if rate drops like 4-5 days before you leave? And do you have to call to cancel old reservation?

What is emerald club?

Emerald Club is explained on the National Website. It would be much quicker and easier for you to read it there.

You can look for codes, etc. up to 24 hours before you leave and yes, it would be wise and fair to others to cancel existing reservations.
