I am just wondering how good we have it. DH gets 12 set paid holidays, 18 vacation days, and 18 sick days (paid) a year. That seems like a lot to me, we never seem to be able to use it all up.

I'm a teacher, so I don't know if it's fair to ask me! But I loooooooooooove my vacations. Every year I wonder what I would do if I ever had to work a real job!!:teeth:

As a daycare provider I try not to take off more than 10 days in a year; however, my vacations are unpaid so not sure it's much of a benefit, lol. My hubby banks tons every year since he now earns 6 wks per year but doesn't want to be off and home with me and all the kiddos! He does do all the kids' doctors/dentists visits now and even most fieldtrips though so my job has made him a more active dad!

Haley B you do have it good! Dh gets 8 paid holidays, and 13 combo vacation or sick days per year. If he or one of the kids gets sick we would not get vacation that year. After five years of employment he gets an additonal 5 days to get sick or go on vacation!
I have it much better I get 28 paid holidays and 18 paid sick days per year. I also get unpaid summers off!

Sub. Teacher, so tons of days off, DH gets 46 days(368hours) off per yr, but that does include all time (Holidays, vacation, sick, and emergencies eg. funeral, s/t disability) you choose how to use. But he has never used more than 200 hours in a year, and there is a cap on his bank. I know he donated hours to a woman's maternity leave, who was on extended bedrest:D . Wish I could get him to take more time, but it is impossible with his job:crazy:
HaleyB it sounds like we have similar stories...perhaps we could organize a mothers/children's trip for all the wives with husbands always on the job!!

I get 6 paid Holidays, but I don't get paid vacation yet not till Sept 30, then I will have been there one year, can take days off unpaid until then as many as I want, as long as they ok it, after 1 year I get 1 week off, 5 personal days, and 2 floating holidays (it goes up to 2 weeks after 3 years, and 3 weeks after 9 years)

I work at a digital mapping company and get 2 weeks vacation per year. Next year will be my 5 year, and at that time I'll start accruing 3 weeks vacation per year. (Three weeks at Disney World would be cool!!)

I teach in a day care center. We get 10 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 2 personal days, and 30 vacation days (all paid) each year.:bounce: :Pinkbounc
All of the teaching staff get the same amount of time no matter how long they've been there. I've only worked there for 3 years, but I get the same amount of vacation time as the teachers that have been there for 25 years.

I have every other week off! It's great! I work 7 days in a row (5 eight hour shifts Monday through Friday, then 2 twelve hour shifts on the weekend), then have the next 7 days off.
DH is self-employed--he takes weekends off, then on my weeks off he generally takes an extra day off so that we have a 3 day weekend together.
For me, paid time off is all rolled together, sick or annual leave, and I earn about 120 hours per year plus 8 paid holidays.
At my last job, I had 13 paid holidays, 20 paid vacation days, and 13 sick days--but it was a regular Monday through Friday job with the state of Florida (state jobs have great benefits here). My current job doesn't have great benefits but this is more than made up for by the GREAT SCHEDULE & higher pay.

My dh is a banker. He gets 5 weeks paid vacation a year. Plus all national holidays, 5 personal days and 2 weeks sick days. The downside- he works 60 to 70 hours a week when he isn't on vacation.

I voted with DH's time off. He currently gets 4 weeks vacation plus 5 personal days. I am a SAHM, so depending on your point of view, I either have EVERY day off or NEVER HAVE a day off!.....P

I have 4 weeks of vacation (all ready used one week of it to spend in Disneyland in January). I also get 6 paid holidays, 2 personal days and 2 weeks of sick days. I have used my personal days all ready this year and am saving 2 weeks of my vacation for our trip to Florida October/November.

I work 4, 10 hour days per week. Have 12 paid holidays and 6 weeks leave time. At the end of the year, we can either put our excess hours in an account (up to 840 hrs max) for future use or get paid for the time as a bonus!
Downside (we all have them, LOL!) is the amount of expected overtime! We are attached to an electronic leash (beeper) 24/7 and have been known to work 80+hr work week... Yuck!

I am a travel agent so we are encouraged to travel! As long as I don't go at a very peak time, I can get as much time as I need (as long as the office is covered.) DH gets 3 weeks vacation, 10 and 1/2 holidays and sick days as needed.

Well, since I work for a school district, I get Christmas vacation, a week at Thanksgiving, Spring Break and about 8 weeks in the summer. My pay is not all that great, but I get to spend time with my kids.

I'm adminstrator at a college and I get unlimited sick time ( which was great because I broke my ankle this year and was out for two weeks ) 20 vacation days, 11 or 12 regular holidays and three floating holdays (sometimes more if a holiday falls on a weekend). They also usually give a few days off at Christmas time. I have a 35 hour work week and they usually let us go a few hours early on fridays during the summer. All in all I don't think it is bad at all.
