Transportation after Illuminations Cruise

We will be staying in the Contemporary and want to do the Illuminations Cruise on my husbands BD. We will ride the monorail over to Epcot in the Afternoon, hope to eat at Beaches and Cream before the cruise, but I was wondering if we could walk back through Epcot to take the monorail back to TTC then on to CR? If not, what should our route be?

In our case, we were trying to get to Port Orleans Riverside and our captain dropped us off at MGM.
