I just read on the DVC Board that beginning in July 2001 {don"t remember the exact date} that there is going to be a charge for valet parking . Has anyone heard anything about this?

I just saw this on the DVC site - ver batum:

As of July 16, 2001, there is a charge for valet parking at all Walt Disney WorldŽ Resort hotels ($6.00 per day) that offer this guest service. However, Disney Vacation Club Members will not be charged for valet parking at Disney's BoardWalk Resort and Disney's Wilderness Lodge, regardless of where they are staying. Members will be charged for this service at any other valet parking operation at the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney Vacation Club Members must show their DVC Member card or Walt Disney World Resort ID indicating "DVC Member" when leaving their vehicle to be parked in order to receive this service at no charge at either Disney's BoardWalk Resort or Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Whether or not you are charged to valet park, gratuities are still appropriate.

Ooooh I'm sooooo maaaaddd!!!!

I'm not too thrilled about this either, but I can't say that I'm very surprised. Just another way to squeeze a dollar out of their guests.

If you all notice, this amount is the same as the cost of parking in the park lots. Hmmmm, you think maybe they are cracking down on the park at the resorts and walk to the parks thing?
Wonder if they will charge the guests of a particular resort for this ? That would be a shame.
As to squeezing, I do disagree, it is a service that you are not required to use.

Is there non-valet parking available at the GF? If so, where, and how to access it if one is staying at another WDW resort and just visiting GF? Thanks.

I know that self-parking is available and it's across the street from the Main Building. I think you can make it out of the GF resort map, which is available on the Main Page.

I think if you are a registered guest at any resort who offers valet parking, you should not be charged at any other resort. You don't see them dropping the room rates at the deluxe resorts to justify this new charge do you?

We enjoy resort hopping as much as park hopping and always tip generously when using the valets. I would really hate to be one of the valets now. Not only will they have several irate customers, but I'm sure their tips will turn into nothing! I'm also sure none of the employees will be seeing any of this new revenue!

If this kind of short sighted cost cutting/revenue increasing policy continues, I'll be making fewer trips to WDW in the future, DVC or not!

I wondered why the charge is coming. Were the valets not getting tipped enough? Or maybe it's being implemented to be able to pay valets more. Yeah right. I doubt the room rates will be lowered to reflect this either. I wasn't even really planning on using valet parking too much anyway. I just see room rates going up, park hours seeming shorter, 'preferred' rooms at All Stars, etc. I can't help but wonder what's next. Will they eventually charge for parking at the resorts. Or maybe even charge to ride their buses. Before, these notions might have seemed ridiculous to me, but now? Who knows? I really hope that the 'on site' perks don't start vanishing. This current trend has created suspicion in many minds and has even diminished some of the 'magic' for others. Just MHO....:)

Universal resorts charge $11/day for valet parking. As much as I don't like this change, it could be worse!

So much for someone here telling me when I stayed at the Contemporary this past December and couldn't find a parking space (due to people parking there and walking over to MK for the day or night) that "that's what Valet parking is for!"

Well, I didn't want to do valet parking even before this change because of daily tipping and because I like to know where my car is and because we have 2 little ones and liked to try and park near our room, now I will NEVER use it!

It is my choice whether to pay the valet parking fee or not, but this new valet parking fee may help me decide where I eat - for example Chef Mickey's or Cape May.

This is terrible news!! And just when we've gotten so used to taking advantage of the valet parking too!

At least will still be able to use it when staying at the BWV, but I can't tell you how many times we've used it at the GF, Poly, Contemp, Yacht Club, etc, etc.

What a dissappointment! :(

We always Valet park at Boardwalk...always...I actually wouldn't even mind paying the 6.00 for this either...I like the convenience of Valet parking and not having to look for my car later on at night...but that is just my opinion! lol

I thought that the free valet parking was just for Disney Resort guests and that off-site guests were charged. Now some folks are saying that this change is being instituted because of off-site guests valet parking and taking Disney transportation to the parks. Maybe I'm just having a brain cloud.
