We are renting thru Alamo in Orlando. Last time we got a Standard car (Oldsmobile Alero). This time we have a Full Size car booked. Alamo's website only lists 1 car (Malibu). I know I saw lots of cars in this catagory but cannot remember what kind. We kept looking over in the next row up and saying, "Oooooh I wish we could have that one!" I tried calling Alamo too and they only had the one car type listed.

I know we saw Chrysler PT Cruisers and Chevy Monte Carlos. Does anybody know what catagory those cars are in?

Please list the car you got (if you remember) what catagory it was, and what company - and if you liked it.

For the record, we were happy with our Alero but got a good deal on a full size car this time.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi,
an Alero is an intermediate.
Alamo lists the Impala as full size. alamo does not have a standard, which, for National (Alamo's sister company) is a Monte Carlo or other 2 door full size car.
National and Alamo share cars. On the full size aisle expect to find, Impalas, Regals, Centuries, Intrepids and a couple of other ones I cannot remember.
In reality a Malibu is a midsize or intermediate, some call it a full size, but, Chevy does not agree. :)

I class the PT as an underpowered 4 cyl. car with no trunk.

If you call customers service for Alamo they can give you a list of what is stocked (not necessarily available) at each airport.

I think the list you looked at was old. I was just there and if you go to www.alamo.com and click on cars at the top of the page, it will take you to the fleet for the US.

Last spring I had a full size reserved from Alamo. They had alot of Toyota Camrys in the aisle. In fact the majority was imports. I think it depends on the turnover and how fast they can get the cars back into service from the return.

I am trying the Emerald Aisle from National. I have heard that there is always a variety of cars and sizes and styles in that one. You just go straight to the Aisle and pick out what you want and drive to the booth at the end of the lot and sign the papers there. Seeing if the extra $ is worth it.

They have recently changed the EA rules. You can only select from the right hand side of the aisle as they have renamed the left hand side and unless you qualify for that rental, you cannot use it.

Reports have said there are only intermediates on the EA now.

There is a lot of information on the national web site and on the transportation board.

My sister and I rented from Alamo in February and we chose a Dodge Stratus. Our choice was either the Stratus or a Malibu. The Stratus was much nicer. However, on the drive to our hotel, the car died when we stopped at the first toll booth. The next toll booth, we tried really hard to keep it running but it wanted to die anyway. When we stopped at traffic lights, it kept wanting to die. When we arrived at our hotel around 9:30 p.m., we called Alamo and told them what happened. We didn't think it was safe to drive that car for the week. They said they would call us back. We went ahead and went to bed and at 12:30 a.m. the front desk called us telling us Alamo was there with a car for us. They brought a Malibu which was no where near as nice as the Stratus.

ummm.....last year we went with Dollar and reserved a full size car and we were given an Intrepid.

The year before we reserved a full size with Thrifty and were given a kia something or other......

The service we got from Dollar was wonderful. I will never rent from Thrifty again.
