Ice Cream Social? What is it?

Can someone tell what the Ice Cream social is? Do you have to make P.S for it? Would it be fun for an almost 3 year old?

It's a PSable event at the Garden Grill in Epcot FW every afternoon at 3:00p that gets you an icecream and a chance to meet the characters for around $7 a piece.

It's not really a "social" per se. Mickey and friends will come to your table while you are eating a pre-plated dish of ice-cream in an upside down cone with cookies, and candy. You may also order drinks, and coffee. You will have an opportunity to take pictures with Mickey and other characters and the character interaction is very, very good. It's a great opportunity to have "quality" time with characters without getting pushed or shoved out of the way! And, it's the cheapest character meal on property! Me? I use it as a great escape from the heat.

I noticed your counter and it's getting close. I tried last week to get one for us, but no luck on the day we are planning Epcot. :(

We were there in January and even then we needed PS. It was the best part of our trip. The characters were great and the ice cream was even better! Our waitress was also very nice and good. It was the first time we had done it and we will do it again next time we go. Debby

do you need a credit card hold to book this? we are going in october can i get a tablr for this when i'm at epcot or is it better to make a ps?

The social works like this. Its at the Garden Grill which is a rotating restaurant, which is cool. It overlooks scenes from a ride below. So you sit and enjoy your ice cream sundae, and farmer mickey, Chip, Dale, and Goofy come around and visit. And be prepared for interaction. I had Chip (or Dale, can't tell the difference) wrap paper towels around me. I got Mickey's autograph. They "talk" to you. They pose for pictures. Its a great character experience.


Oh, I always make PS's if I can. You can always cancel them if you can't make it. I can't remember right now about the credit card. I don't think so, but I don't know for sure.

No credit card deposit required. My son loved this last week. We had tons of time with the characters. Pluto even stood there waving at my son when we were leaving. FYI: I believe Chip has the black nose and Dale the pink nose. A tip: my husband went down and grabbed fast passes to the Land boat ride while we were waiting to be seated. It worked out perfectly to walk down there right after we finished our ice cream.

Any chance to get in without a PS? or should I try to keep calling?

I wasn't planning on taking this in on our trip, but thanks to this thread...I will be now! The ice cream looks yummy and hey its a character meal for 7$!!! Can't beat that.

Any chance to get in without a PS? or should I try to keep calling? I just called yesterday and got a PS for the ice cream social on May 28th. I'd say keep calling or even stop in there on your Epcot day in the morning.

We were there a couple of weeks ago, and were unable to get a PS ahead of time. We went to the Garden Grill at Ice Cream Social time and were told that if not all PSs showed, they could seat us. We went to see The Circle of Life, came back, waited about 10 min, and we were in!

This is a must-do for us. We'll be calling in June to make our PS for September!
