Went touring several 5th wheelers this weekend , and I was alarmed that some had such a stong chemical smell that my eyes burned and i had to leave immediately. Does this go away? Is this a sign of poor workmanship? HELP!

Yes, I had the same problem. We bought a new 5th wheel last year and it had the strongest chemical smell that literally burned my eyes and throat. I opened the windows and let it air out before we would take it out for the weekend. After a few months, the odor went away. We also bought the Maxx-Air vents for the rooftop vents, so I can leave the vents open all of the time during camping season.

Good luck!

We also had the new smell in our camper when it was new. I think it's from the protection they put on the upolstry and the carpet. It goes away pretty quickly. As the post above stated, just air it out before trips and things will be fine.
Happy camping......................

You will probably find a sticker inside the camper warning of this. The smell comes from the formaldehyde used in the sidewall material. If the camper has been sitting closed up, especially in the heat, the smell becomes stronger. As others have said, air it out.

I aired it out, lit an attended odor eater candle, opened boxes of baking soda, left lightly scented potpourri pouches throughout....

it wasn't so bad as to burn my eyes, but Ick! It smelled bad every time. I thought it was the cheap carpet glue they use. To think it's formaldehyde is scary! Hope you find a remedy soon!
